Ashley:

Hey guys, it's me, Ashley.

Aaron:

Hello, nostalgic friends. This is Aaron and it's me, Garrett.

Ashley:

and you're listening to nostalgic Yay. This is your follow up we had so much fun covering and living color that we didn't realize it was four hours long. And now we have made a number two and we're starting with.

Aaron:

Damon Waynes

Garret:

this dude started out doing comedy tours but His first movie was Beverly Hills cop., he plays this early version of Blaine Edwards. I think he's credited as the banana man Eddie Murphy goes and gets fruit. At a hotel or and he is like, we got some fruit here. We got some peaches and he's like here, you could just take these

bananas, but don't nobody

Aaron:

I do not remember that, but Uhuh. Yeah.

Garret:

It's like a quick thing. he also was in another one Jim Carey was in called earth. Girls are easy. I wanna say Gina Davis was in this as well. It was like a quirky comedy, very much like a cult classic. I'm gonna get you sucker cuz the entire family was in that. and Look who he's talking to, he was the voice of Eddie so he was actually on SNL. he was one of the cast members from 85 to 86. Really? I didn't know that either.

Aaron:

he got fired.

Aaron (2):

How did you get fired from SNL?

Garret:

don't mess with Lauren Michaels is how you do it. He was playing a cop and instead of playing the straight cop, as he was supposed to play, he started playing it a em, and that's what got kicked off, but he said that he wanted to get kicked off anyways, because there was no creative freedom like he would have on a living color. He was happy to be fired. So he got his wish, I guess.

Ashley:

That always feels like the you didn't dump me. I dumped you,

Aaron:

Yeah, You can't=fire me. I quit.

Garret:

There's always two sides to it, part of me does understand that, but there has to be something said that if a trained actor who can do the lines as scripted and go with it that's needed for, many things, But Lauren Michaels is a stickler that you cannot improv on a live set. You have to go by what's written. I can't think of the guy's name. He's kinda got like a big nose. He's thinner. He's an actor.

yes.

Garret:

he has gotten banned froms it live for improvising while they're live. It's a big, big no-no.

Aaron:

Chevy chases banned from SNL.

Garret:

Well that's cuz he's a

Ashley:

jerk. Does it give you the reasons? Why

Garret:

He's just not a nice guy.

Aaron:

Umto Connor

Garret:

oh, I wonder why she got canceled. She ripped up a picture of the Pope live. It's like, Okay. You're done. So she got canceled before it was even called canceling.

Ashley:

Yeah. Before it was cool.

Aaron:

Andy Kaufman's band, but well, he's dead. So yeah, you can't ban me. I'm David Bowie, man. Alright. I gotta stop

Garret:

David

Ashley:

Bowie

Garret:

now, Now you lit the fire

Ashley:

well, we have to know. I, David Bowie is banned. that makes me sad.

Aaron:

he performed a song that was not supposed to be performed. scary monsters

Ashley:

Oh, he went off script.

same thing. You off script you get banned

Aaron:

Tagal

Garret:

man from SNL that's cuz he's just terrible.

Aaron:

Yeah. That's what he said. He's an a, he did not play nice with the cast

Ashley:

of the crew. I thought he were gonna say he is an asshole like that. It's listed here. He's an asshole. So he can come back

Garret:

like literally dictionary picture of Steven Segal and an asshole. Yes. Well

Aaron:

he did do a movie with Keenan ivory Waynes glimer man. I don't know if y'all remember that. oh,

Ashley:

How come you didn't cover it in

Aaron:

your it's on my notes and I forgot. So that was a good way for me to bring it back up. Okay. Yeah. Good

Ashley:

job.

Aaron:

glimer man.

Ashley:

Aw. All right.

Garret:

back, Toon.

Aaron:

Sorry.

Garret:

All good. I love stuff like that. Yeah. some things he did after in living color, he was in the last boy scout. one of my favorite movies, mow money, as we were talking about before mow money, mow money. I loved that movie especially when they were doing their gay scene and Marlin started to go check out the girl in the jewelry store and he's like, what are you doing? He's like, sometimes I feel like a Nu sometimes I don't OK. Just that entire movie was, I also thought in my, I don't wanna say straight ears, but I thought Stacy dash was hot. I think she's still gorgeous, but I thought they made a very attractive couple,

So he also did blank man and major pain those were some of his, major roles

Ashley:

I love major pain. I don't want eat, I guess, cuz we grew up with a military dad who eats really quick. And he was a drill Sergeant.

Garret:

That being relatable.

Ashley:

Yeah, it was a good one.

Garret:

He actually did quite a bit of stuff, but obviously I didn't wanna put everything in there. my wife and kids, he did that from 2001 to oh five. He also was in lethal weapon. There was some kind of drama with that though with the main cast member and that kind of shot the show to hell. but anyways, back to leaving color

Ashley:

Oh wait really quick. I have a side note. I've been watching, cops from the beginning. So like 89 cops, which has been amazing. I started watching the nineties ones recently and because it came from a network, it shows the commercials from that network and my wife and kids keeps coming up. It's like Damon, Wayne's in the corner like, oh, at nine o'clock my wife and kids. I've never actually seen it.

No me neither

Ashley:

fact and living color

Garret:

his skits became iconic with the show. I absolutely loved homey the clown

Ashley:

home. Don't play that

Garret:

homey, don't play that oh my God, so if you've never seen the living color, Damon Wayne's character comes out in this clown costume. And he is usually around like a bunch of kids but he's a reformed prisoner. He's out on parole. And he is not having his best life and the kids are like, yeah, I want you to slip on a banana peel. And he's like, oh, you want me to degrade myself in front of you and he has this sock stuff with something. And he hits him over the head.

Ashley:

yeah, he always gets him like, yeah, you like that? Wouldn't you? I don't think so.

Garret:

I loved these.

Ashley:

Doesn't he always have a song at the end, too, where he is like, we beat after me and it'll be like home and then it goes into this real long rant about the man

Garret:

Yeah. And the kids try to follow

And he's like

Aaron:

I just did a rewatch and it was the one where he straightens his act up and he puts a suit on

Ashley:

Does he meet the man?

Aaron:

Yeah. his plan is to meet the man and tell him, homie, he don't play that it's funny because one of the kids is like, homie, you ain't a clown. You're a sellout, you sold out to the man

Garret:

I think I remember that

Ashley:

one.

Garret:

it was just strong comedy. There's a message behind it, but it's also humorous. And the cast of in living color, I loved it when they played kids. oh my

Ashley:

gosh. I was gonna talk about that. When I go into one of mine, they do the best kids.

Garret:

they're so good

Ashley:

so over the top

Garret:

Yeah. Over the top. And you could see these hyper kids and you're like, oh yeah. Beat that kid over the head again please.

Yes.

Ashley:

I like the one yell talks and she'll be like, I dunno, I don't like it. It's just everything she says is like volume.

Garret:

that's Kelly Cofield. yeah I will talk about her next.

Ashley:

Love it.

Garret:

Yeah, so that was a great skit. my all time favorite though, is Blaine Edwards in the men on film or men on books, men on art, men on football. they did so many iconic as hell.. It was, Blaine Edwards was placed by Damon Waynes and then David Allen Greer, he played, Antoine Maryweather and they were film critics like Cisco and Eber, but they would always say it's from a male point of view. So they would do these movies and they would give you these critiques of'em and they were these flamboyant guys in these weird costumes

Ashley:

feel like Damon weighs, always had a breast plate where it looked like man cleavage, but it wasn't like I was looking at it again.

Garret:

he had a nice body mm-hmm

Ashley:

Anyways had like a tiny little hat, a little bow or something. Like little Ascot

Aaron:

They would pick a movie and say, where're gonna discuss little women. And they're like, hated it

Ashley:

Hate it.

Garret:

anything that had a, lead character that was a female they would hate it, but anything with a man, right? Like in one of them they're talking about, fatal attraction

And, Antoine me whether he's like, what did you think of Glen close? And he's like, oh, I loved him. And I admire the producers from Darren de a man in that role. And he's like stop Glen close is a woman. He's like pearls. What does thing to do?

Ashley:

I watched that one. I loved it. there's always a disagreement and he's like, don't get mad. Don't get mad. Get

Garret:

But they would always do like, and this film deserves two steps up in a circle. Right. Or they would do like Z formation or what have C formation. I it's funny though, cuz some people say that they could not do this now. And for me being a gay man, I identified with it. I appreciated it because I can laugh at myself. I can laugh at being a gay man and I can take it as far as humor goes.

Ashley:

I guess I looked at it more as representing than making fun of,

Garret:

but that's what in living color did they were making fun of these stereotypes and pushing them to a point where all you could do is laugh, which I appreciated. Yeah.

Aaron:

it made fun of everybody. No one was safe on that show.

Garret:

No, absolutely no one He actually reprised this role on SNL when he hosted it. And Chris Farley was in Antoine's chair. Chris Farley was playing Roger Ebert's character and he's like get comfortable and do whatever. Chris Farley's character goes for me this straight person just this homo and has like a sucker in his like, like doing,

Aaron:

I've gotta watch

Garret:

that normal like, oh man, it's really, really funny. But the best part was Antoine bear wither comes out after he's like, oh, I see. the cat is out you'll play.

Ashley:

Cats away the mice will play

Garret:

Yes. Sorry. Yeah. That's how you're say it. And Chris Fraley character runs off and he's like, honey, you're home. this is one of my favorite, favorite sketches of all time. I actually downloaded them and played'em at the bar I used to work at. I loved these. and I thank Damon for doing it. I think it's, great. some of his other characters, he did Anton Jackson, the homeless guy with his little jar, with the pickle in

Aaron:

that was one of my favorite characters on the whole series. I laugh so hard. just because it's so

Garret:

stupid. He did a

Aaron:

thing. It was like this old box, instead of this old house.

Ashley:

And he's like making it or something like he's

Garret:

like renovating

Aaron:

he's like, let me get out. Measuring tape. And he pulls the string out of his pants and every time his pants fall down, he has something and he goes, that's the extension cord right there.

Ashley:

and it's also the talk. Like, it was always like he was exhaling and he was drunk. So I was like,

Garret:

I

Aaron:

got my measuring tape and my screwdriver and he pulls out like an actual vodka, orange juice and and then he uses a booger as glue,

Garret:

I forgot about that. A natural adhesive Yeah. that character was really, funny, the way he portrayed him I just loved Damon wins as an actor.

Ashley:

I wanna know the inspiration for that one. He just sat on the subway and watched a homeless guy and was like, yep. I think I could do that.

you guys remember the Headley? Hey on you gotta go to work.

Ashley:

is that what they were called?

Yeah, it was called Heyman, but they were the Headley.

Ashley:

Yeah. Okay. No, I didn't know their name.

Garret:

but The whole stick of, the skit was they have an obscene amount of jobs. he's got 15 jobs and his wife has nine jobs and he is like, when I was your age, I had more than that.

Ashley:

So I was reading a thing on it an interview I think. And when they were talking about that and just that is a stereotype that people weren't exposed to but they were like, this is what this culture looks like when Jamaicans come our country,

Garret:

As long you understood it was satire. It was there to be funny, but it exposed you to people that you would not normally get exposed to. this one was funny cuz the sun was always determined as lazy, even though he had a few jobs. I always liked this, but yeah, Damon Wayne's band. Is the first one to leave the show. Mm-hmm and so he left in the third season and then he came back as a guest, performer in season four, but yeah, his film career took off.

Aaron:

Doesn't he have a fake leg or Isn't his leg amputated on one or am I

Garret:

wrong on that?

He had, what's called a club foot So the foot looks like it's sideways It looks kind of strange, but I guess he was born with that.

Garret:

huh?

Aaron:

so it wasn't a fake leg.

Ashley:

it was a messed up leg points for, you know facts are optional

Aaron:

And one other thing that I saw was there was actually a homey to clown video game.. shut your

Garret:

hole. Yep.

Aaron:

What it was released as an Ms. Dos point and click adventure game for homey clown in

Garret:

1993. Whoa mm-hmm wonder how much that would

Ashley:

go for an auction

Aaron:

And they said there was also a cone heads game that was in production, but never got released after that, but

Garret:

How how

Aaron:

did we talk about Damon Waynes and not talk about handyman

Garret:

so I specifically did not write it down because it's not perceived very well now at all. It's

Aaron:

not, but In living color, they pushed

Ashley:

I don't remember handyman do I?

Aaron:

yes, you do never underestimate the power of the handicap

Ashley:

oh, I do remember that.

Garret:

Yeah. I purposely did not watch it in my research, it was like things that have not aged well, and that was one of the ones that went straight to the top. And I was like, okay, I won't put this on there, but Aaron's like, come to he's like, Hey, Fran, what about this one

Aaron:

I'll be the asshole I'll bring

Ashley:

Oh He's got his handicap thing. Okay..

Aaron:

Cause instead of the bat signal, it was the, handicap signal. Like I just remember it, the sidekick was like, it's a bomb in the toilet and it's a turd. Why do I keep going

Garret:

back to shit in the toilet? I dunno. Is there something you wanna tell us

Ashley:

that butts are funny still, even though we're 40 butts are funny. The butts they'll

Aaron:

always be funny.

Garret:

Okay. Damon

Ashley:

white. So Marlon was on a living color. he is the youngest of the 10 lands. Sean is his older brother. one of the things I have to admit about Sean and Marlin is that I did not realize they were part of the 10. I thought they were sons because there were such an age gap between them he was on 92 and 93. He is currently on tour doing comedy and in June, actually this month he'll be in Dallas, Houston in San Antonio. And then he is going to Louisiana. So still touring if you wanna see him.

Garret:

So he was only on two seasons.

Ashley:

Yep. he really didn't have a lot of, characters, he was one of those that we were talking about was in the background a lot, but really he was only known for like One major character.

Garret:

what was that?

Ashley:

I will tell you so before in living color, he was in above the rim. He was in a music video for Luther Vandros and Janet Jackson. The best things in life are free. I love that song

Aaron:

Do you remember him in above the rim? He was the real goofy friend that was trying to make it and couldn't,

Ashley:

I've never seen it. It's a sports movie. So I was like, oh no, blah, blah.

Garret:

It's

Aaron:

More

Garret:

about life.

Ashley:

It's more okay. All off to watch it. Get some lovebox in it.

Aaron:

Bernie max in it. the soundtrack is awesome.

Ashley:

Oh Nope.

Aaron:

The one that That shoots, Tupac in the end. Spoil alert. Sorry, if you haven't seen it yet.

Ashley:

I haven't seen Just ruined my, yeah, I don't need to watch it now. Yep. he was the Seymour Stewart and Mo money. True. Yeah. Y'all talked about that. And then he was a pedestrian and I'm gonna get you sucker

Aaron:

they keep the family involved.

Ashley:

I feel like their whole resume is like, Hey, I'm doing this thing. So apparently there was, animations based on Damon Wayne's story called Wayne Head and then he had his own show called Marlin. I didn't really see like how long it lasted or anything, but he had his own thing. the thing I remember him from is book room for a dream

Aaron:

one of my favorites of all time

Ashley:

it is good. And it is a serious role for him of all the roles that I've seen in play. He

Aaron:

kills it

Ashley:

it's legit.

Garret:

I I've heard Sean say that he's the actor of the family. he's promoted him as that, but you think

Ashley:

he would've done more?

Aaron:

I mean, he was also in, don't be a menace

Ashley:

Don't be a menace then, scary movie. So he co-wrote and appeared in the film sequels, scary movie, two, three and four, 2017. He co-wrote and star in naked, a Netflix's original film about a guy stuck in a Groundhog day, like loop, except this protagonist begins each day nude in an elevator mm-hmm just an hour before he meant to tie the knot at his wedding, which I thought sounded pretty good, actually

Garret:

true. I'm like, I'll have to turn that on and be like, Hey,

Ashley:

it's called. Just saying. he was originally slated to play Robin in Batman forever. Really? Yep. Tim Burton was directing it, but, when someone else took the helm, they, they didn't jive is what it says.

I actually remember reading that. I think it was Batman returns though he filmed part He still gets royalty checks from it. even though they cut him out, he still gets money from it because he filmed all the scenes. They just didn't use it.

Aaron:

Hmm. I'm always so intrigued on the people. Would've had a role. it blows my mind, like the ones we were talking about, Jim Terry earlier,

Ashley:

went and also, the polar opposite to me of Marlon Williams and crystal, Donald, that's just weird,

Garret:

well, you had Tim Burton with the first two Batman movies, and then you had Joel Schumacher for the next two. So their styles were

Ashley:

like, I do love the first two., me too. Oh, I didn't actually say what he, which one he was known for It was Mr. Ugly man.

oh wait, wait, wait, if, was it the song Mr. Ugly man?

Ashley:

yeah, it was almost like a shaggy, it was like,

Garret:

I think he was making fun of Cause shaggy did a song called, oh God, what is it called, Mr. BOIC? Yeah,

Aaron:

They called me Mr. Boomba

Ashley:

ballistic Yeah.

Aaron:

We sound just like him.

and Marlon did Mr. Deman, Mr.

Ashley:

There is a skit where Mr. Ugly man, and Wanda meet we haven't talked about Wanda yet, but it was not our memorable character to meet. Right. And of all the ones, we were saying, oh, we watched it and it stuck. It did not stick. I couldn't remember any characters. And then when I looked up, what roles they were famous for, that was the only one that was written under his yeah that's all I've got on Marlon the youngest of the Waynes.

Garret:

Cool. All

Aaron:

my next character is Jamie Fox. his first episode was season three on the same episode as Jay love. Jamie Fox was originally born Eric Marlon Bishop. oh, really? Yeah. that's his real name?

Ashley:

I think keen and ivory introduces him as like a country bumping from Dallas

Aaron:

the way he introduces him is this is, and they hesitate before they say his name. like, you know, once you say it on here, it's official. It's almost like, are we going with Jamie Fox or not? He got his start at a comedy night with his girlfriend they asked if anybody wanted to get up and tell some jokes and she dared him to do it. And he did

Garret:

it Really mm-hmm when he first started

Aaron:

touring, he was under the name Eric Bishop, but he started noticing that females were more popular as far as getting called back. so took the name which was a ambiguous name, Jamie Fox, which could be a boy or a girl's name. Yeah. And he based Fox on a character from red Fox he started on living color, and then he had some pretty big stand up shows, straight from the foxhole and I might need security after in living Keller, he blew up. He had his own show the Jamie Fox show. That lasted five seasons, any given Sunday bait. Oh yeah. he played Muhammad Ali, Ray, Charles. And he's recently been in Spider-Man

Ashley:

and yeah, he went to serious roles. it wasn't like when we were talking about Damon Waynes, he had serious roles too, but it was also major pain was kind of, goofy where I feel like Jamie Fox went like some really serious

Garret:

roles. He went legit. some of his roles were abso I mean, he played like dream girls. Yeah. And could sing.

Ashley:

that's what I was gonna say with Ray Charles he's sang too. Right? Like that's what he was

Garret:

singing. Yeah. But for him to be just thrown out there like, Hey, I'm daring you to do this.

I don't know if he dances, but if he does, then he's a triple threat. Cuz he could sing. He can act. And he can do comedy, which all of that is not easy. Especially if you have an innate talent. So for that to just randomly be thrown in his direction and him get in that lane. he's so good.

Ashley:

Like this is E ego material right here.

Garret:

Really?

Aaron:

so mention the singing. he has released a couple albums. He's one of the only people to have the number one album and the number one movie out at the same time.

Ashley:

He's

Aaron:

also one of the only few actors to win the quadruple award crown for the motion picture award season. He won the golden globe award, the sag award, the B a F T a the bathtub award and the academy award all on the same year.

Ashley:

Yeah.

Aaron:

a few more things. in 2005, he was, named one of the most beautiful people in the world by people's magazine. he was almost rod Tidwell in the movie, Jerry McGuire. it was between him and Cuba Gooding, Jr.

Garret:

I could see him in role as

Aaron:

He is the second male in history to receive two acting Oscar nominations in the same year for two different movies. Wow. Only other one to do it is Pacino,

Garret:

he's do you know what movies they were? I'm guessing one of them was Ray. Charles, I'm gonna

Aaron:

say Ali and Ray, Charles is

Garret:

it. Did they come out in the same year

Aaron:

that's the only two movies that I could see that were close together in his timeline that were, big hits any given Sunday, maybe. On the show, he was most famous for Wanda.

Garret:

I rock your world.

Aaron:

so Wanda was a female that was very muscular and

Garret:

oh, just say she was ugly.

Ashley:

He's trying to be busy now.

Garret:

it's JV Fox playing a woman. Like, it's just it's on.

Ashley:

But it was usually like, she had a cute friend and they'd be on a double date And it's like, when guys would see her, they would run for the Hills,

Aaron:

they would jump back Tommy Lee Davis and try to fight her. Like he would like, eh,

Ashley:

I know they do a lot of remember back joy said like karate,

Garret:

like, yeah.

Ashley:

One that I was watching, it was Dave Allen Greer had a one night stand with her and they were in the same room, but he never saw her face. Like they kept missing each other. And he was like, I don't even remember last time, but it was freaky. I know it was good, And then he sees her and he jumps out the window and she's like another one down, I would've rocked this

Garret:

world. Did you see the one where Jim Carey and her and Jim Carey is a vampire. And he's like, oh my God, you have to watch it.

Aaron:

Well, in the end to get away from her, he exposes himself to sunlight. Yeah. And there was one where she was the lost member of in vog.

oh, yes. That was hilarious. Cuz they would do their harmonies

Aaron:

And the kick. It was though they kicked her out because she actually was getting all the dudes,

Ashley:

yeah. She was like the pretty one.

Aaron:

Yeah. they actually kicked her out of the band

Garret:

I love the in Vogue one though. Cause in Vogue would sing it would be like, what was it?

like nav gonna again and nav And then Wanda. would be like, like a dog. that character was just funny.

Ashley:

Yeah. There's one where shes like the massage therapist, Tommy Davidson with her anytime he saw her. Cuz I think it was the massage one. he sees her in his towel falls down and he's wearing a leopard Speedo I just thought that was an added bonus oh man. Yeah,

Aaron:

That was oh, some other characters he played was Carl, the tooth Williams where he was a, boxer that always gets his butt kicked. And he only has one tooth. He almost kind

Garret:

of looks like

Aaron:

Frenchie or Rick James

Garret:

yeah. I remember that.

Aaron:

He did a little richer Don king. Tupi.

Garret:

Oh, little richer though. East Hollywood squares. That was hysterical. Cause the host would always make fun of him for sort of being gay. He'd be like 2d, fruity and something. And then like he would just stare at him. He'd be like, you better shut up and ask me another question

little He was good at little Richard man That was hilarious

Aaron:

so that's Jamie Fox.

Garret:

All right. Kelly Cofield, or as she's now known Kelly Cofield park. Cause she married her co-star

Ashley:

Was it? the Asian one?

Yes. Steve park

Ashley:

He's kind of an honorable mention. I have him as he got introduced with Jamie Fox, at the same time, but, none of us are actually talking about him.

Garret:

So she was the blonde that was on, in living color and I really liked her and I'm very surprised that she did not get as big as she could because. if you watch her, she was to the nth degree in every single thing that she did. the only thing I can find that she had done before in living color she was, in field of dreams. you remember the best friend with the beard? She played the wife.

her name was D

Aaron:

[Sound]

Garret:

you guys suck, she's had a career she's been in a bunch of things. she was in quiz show. She was in scary, movies. One of my favorite movies of all time. She played the teacher. She's like, we really need more prayer in schools. This country is just not what it used to be. And then she's holding a baby she's like, here you go to your daddy as she's teaching the class and giving it to a student. And then she looks over the student to the, I remember that's, I forgot all she's like, and I'll see you after class and then somebody gets up there and she's like, okay, who wants to give the report? And the needy girls, like me, me she's like anybody else. And and she lights up a cigarette and she's like, oh, shut up. And beats her, she plays these roles to the grade and she's very funny, very likable so she was in scary movie. She was in Jerry McGuire, She was, one of the friends towards the end that was hanging out with, Renee Zinger's character, like when they were having the women's group. Yeah. I've liked her so much that when I do see her, I'm like, I know who that is. like it's, it's pointed

Ashley:

out, you're saying all these and I'm like, I don't recognize, I mean and You're gonna go over it, but I don't feel like she had a lot of main characters, but all of her side characters were so good. And anything she was in she was a star,

Garret:

mm-hmm um, so she was in Seinfeld. I never watched Seinfeld cause I didn't like it, but she played Doreen. she was in Martin. She was in, 13 hope street, which was produced by Damon Waynes. It didn't, I think it lasted less than a season, but after living color that had the most episodes that she had done. She was in tales of the crypt, wings, Wayne brothers, 30 rock person of interest. She, so she's been in a bunch of stuff, but it's only for like an episode So as we were saying, her characters are just spot on and she's, a really good side character and she did try to get some main characters out. Some of them did come back, again, she did Sally Struthers, which I don't know if anybody remembers, so Sally St. Straws was the one she's like for 75 cents a day for the price of a cup of coffee, you could help this child. in this parody she's like, you can help this poor child and the child's eating. She's like, oh, that looks good. She's grabs it from the child. And then it keeps going over and she's like, oh my God. She's like, please I'm so hungry. Send money to these children. So she did that a couple times she did Roseanne bar, when Roseanne butcher's a national Anthem. Oh yeah. the skit wasn't funny, but she sounded just like her. And she did a really good job. She did Andrea dice, clay, a play.

Ashley:

I, I do remember

Garret:

that one mm-hmm and then she also did Samantha Kennison, which was a playoff Sam Kennison. And so she was fully into the character, Sam Kenon used to yell and be like, you're a disappointment, that sort of vulgar comedy mm-hmm and she reinterpreted that for a female approach. It just wasn't as funny as some of the other ones for me. And I was like, this is a good character, but it's not as funny. Right. So she did those. she did Woody Allen and I couldn't get through the entire thing cuz it was basically showing these wives you could get and they're 12, 13, it was cringy and I had to turn it off, but right. her characterization of Woody Allen was spot on.

Ashley:

Yeah Did she do the black and white character? Yes.

Aaron:

She was a lady in the forties. She was still in black and white, but everything else was in color.

Ashley:

Yeah. So she's going on a blind date and it's Damon weighs and and she just says all those really old lines,

Garret:

I think I

Ashley:

do remember that overed. And he's like, I brought you flowers and she's like, ah, you sweet kid. and then at the end she's like, go, I hate you. is that what you wanna hear? And she'd smack him. And he is like, you don't have a slap of brother. And he just walks off, you know,

Garret:

what else did she do? She did Paula Abdu, and the video was promise of a thin me cuz she was making fun of Paula Do but one of my favorites that she did with Jim Carey was, do you remember last seat, nineties edition?

Ashley:

Yes. It was it a pit bull and they kept bringing arms. And I just remember they the dog it, was like oh, it's the landlord with an eviction notice and Lassie just brings a arm. And they were like, oh, she saved us. Let's put it in the basket of arms. Yeah. not a

Garret:

nice dog. well so Kelly plays the mom and she plays an old school Lassie. And she's like, what are you trying to say, girl, are we in danger? Are you saying fatherland? And she's like, oh, the reunification of Germany. She's like, you don't have to be worried about that., jim Carrie's character is like, mom, maybe you should stop lining the, the dog's bed with newspapers. She's like, I think you're right, Jimmy. But at the end, when Lasty saves everything, she's like, we love you. Lasty and Lacey's biting her arm is like, ah, and she's like lifts him up by the mouth.

Ashley:

later they were like, fatherland landlord. It was stupid, but

Garret:

it was funny She did another one that she was a class troublemaker and she was with Jim Carey where Jim care was a nerd and she's a really dorky kid and then keep getting in trouble. it wasn't that funny, a ski, but again, she plays her characters so well. Right,

Ashley:

She can mold into anything or anyone. Yeah. She really can definitely made an impression

Garret:

She helped other characters succeed by her side characters being as developed and as good as they were like homey, the clown would not have been as funny had her character not been dialed up as much as his character was.

Ashley:

That's just someone who observed people and then is able to do them. It amazes me

Garret:

All right Te

Aaron:

crystal

Garret:

Kik

Aaron:

She Was born crystal Walker. She changed her name after college, after she realized that Walker was a slave name

Garret:

she

Aaron:

added to Kia because it means mental revival of God's spirit and Keyman is to establish oneself she was Ms. Black America from the state of Illinois and she was first runner up in the national miss black America contest.

Garret:

She's absolutely gorgeous.

Aaron:

she's smart too. She's a graduate of Florida, a and M and she was a national merit scholar.

Garret:

Wow. Wow. That's cool. Look at her.

Ashley:

Ah, I'm curious what she's up to these days. I'm hoping you'll get to it.

Aaron:

She did four seasons in Cosby, not the Cosby show, but the spinoff after the Cosby show, it was just Cosby where like the kids were in college She was one of the neighbors and she was also the mom in that. So Raven, she has her own variety show called The cool crystal variety show in 2021. The main thing I remember her from is the little girl in home of the clown. One of the little girls that was always like, yeah, clown. Yeah. You know so

Ashley:

their little kids were so

Aaron:

good. All of them. Yeah. She also did go on girl

Garret:

know That was one of my favorites, cuz it was black women empowerment

Aaron:

I can just picture young seven year old Garrett, the crowd.

I swear to God. I was, I was like, come on girl on

Ashley:

The only one I watched had the ladies fighting over the same man. And she was like wait, you're fighting over a man, this is non empowerment,

What was it? Liketu that's my man.

Aaron:

Kim Waynes was one of them.

Garret:

That was a good one. She did a couple of those. Didn't she?

Aaron:

Yeah. That was Multiple. Episodes she did Janet Jackson and UN poetic justice, a spoof of that. She did Latoya Jackson.

Garret:

I think I remember that, whoopy

Aaron:

Goldberg.

Garret:

She was great. Especially when she played the children cuz like she had her little boy.

Ashley:

And she was so animated, she would be like, no. And just the way she moved mm-hmm was really?

Garret:

Yeah. Yeah. Oh, and remember she had a skit with, Tommy Davidson where they were kids and they would be saying grown up stuff to each other. He'd be like, who put this poop hair about apple juice.

Aaron:

I don't remember. I do remember that. Yeah. And they were, yeah.

Garret:

they were playing adult basically. They would just were a funny match together. I don't know how many they did, but I remember the skit.

Aaron:

And that's pretty much all I have about, her

Garret:

so next character is David Allen Greer. I have a love, hate relationship with him. Mostly because most of his characters or skits, I never found that funny except for men on film men on film. I could, I watch that all day, every day, but,

Ashley:

Hey it,

Garret:

of all these people, he actually, was one of the older ones. Cause he had more of a background, in his films, he was in Amazon women on the moon. I'm gonna get you sucker obviously. I mean, he's not

Ashley:

a Wayne, but he still made the cut.

Garret:

Correct? he was in loose cannons. almost an angel. after the fact, the films he was in, he was in boomerang. He was in, in the army. Now with Paul shore. If you don't know, you can go back to our previous episode for Paul shore and listen, he was in Jumanji in McKay's Navy. If you look at his IMDB, you could just keep scrolling cuz he's just got a ton of stuff and TV. Now this one was a very strange one that I came across. I don't know what it means. it may be an accident but says star wars, empire strikes back, various voices, two episodes. they listed the episodes. I didn't write the episodes down, my brain kind of like inverted. I have no idea what this means. Cuz that was a movie. So if somebody else knows what that was, please tell me, was there

Ashley:

any kind of animated thing he would've done a voice for like a jar jar be or something

Garret:

I tried looking but I but I couldn't find anything Anyways. He was an Alf. in a different world. He played in CBS summer Playhouse. Martin, life with Bonnie crank, yank anchors, he, had quite the career after in living color.

Ashley:

I feel like I've seen him cameos

Garret:

Like I wouldn't say he was as famous, but like he has done a great job of making him self, a household name just all throughout. but his best skits, obviously men on film mr. And Mrs. Brooks were, they're trying to kill each other. he played that really well in the snack and check, he actually played the owner of the snack and check, he was the crazy guy in the corner that would just blurt out random stuff He like My face stink Then also he was, Calhoun tubs.

And he'd be like, I wrote a song about it. here it go.

Ashley:

wanna hear it. Here it goes.

Yeah. And it was like a ten second song and he is like, thank you. Thank you.

Garret:

So like he was good with these side characters and he was good at playing them, but none of them ever really jumped out, as much as some of the other ones, even in some of the other things I've seen, like in the army, now to me, he, wasn't funny in that, in Mr Mrs. Brooks been on film, those kind of characters, I think if he's paired with the right people, then he's funny, especially that physical comedy, but otherwise I wouldn't pay to see him live.

Ashley:

Right. he was okay at a lot of things. I don't feel like there was anything that you were like, this is his thing. Even in his acting it almost feels like if he's not one of these major characters, he's the same character. He doesn't have a lot of diversity to me, but like you said, he's got staying power. clearly he's kept working. So he is doing

Garret:

our right. I was surprised. I was like, damn, this guy has been working kudos to him. There wasn't really, for me, a bad apple on this show, everybody was talented in their own way. but when you. In front of these large stars with so much personality You can get drowned out. And I just feel like he did get drowned out of bed. Yeah.

Ashley:

All right. Yep, that's it. I got my last one and I do have some honor roll mentions that I'll make quick, I like it. My last one. I wasn't a huge fan and I really almost was like, oh man, I gotta do Tommy Davidson. I didn't feel like he had a lot of major characters that stood out. In my memory, like we talked about when I was seven and I know Vera de Mylo, I know fire Marshall bill, but Tommy Davidson, the only thing he stood out to me was, ASIN two when he's in the backpack.

Aaron:

[Sound]

Ashley:

Yeah, white devil, I don't lay that part out. So, he is touring. So he's mostly touring in new England. and he has a small stint in Texas, so he is still doing comedy. he wrote a memoir called living in color. What's funny about me, but what was really crazy when I was watching interviews on Tommy Davidson was one. He's really well spoken. Just so intelligent, which I feel like most comedians are, Right I agree. he was actually raised by a white family and he was found abandoned in the trash as a kid. The adopted family found him randomly while giving out flyers for the civil rights movement. Oh wow. They were a white family that was like, we really wanna do something. So they went into this neighborhood and they saw his little foot under the trash.

Garret:

did they say how old he was?

Ashley:

18 months old. starved had contusions in his skull and was in a coma. he was in the hospital for the first 60 days before they adopted. Wow. God, that's crazy. He was talking about his culture and how his mom was so open to him learning his culture because she knew he was getting raised by white family. So the teacher called home and was saying he was doing the black power fist for the American flag. And she was just like, Hey man, that's what he knows about his culture. His background was just, I was amazed

Garret:

that's fascinating.

Ashley:

Yeah.. So he's been working very consistently since in living color. He's done a lot of voiceovers. There's a cartoon called the proud family. and has a movie coming out. I've never seen it, but, he was in like kinda weird ones, Johana man and booty call, but one of the biggest ones, I didn't know happened, but did you know that coming to America had a TV show and he was in it? I had Eddie Murphy and CVS produced a pilot for it. It was a TV version. he was prince to, and he was Akeem's little brother and they set him up an apartment and the guy who sings I'm yo queen, Tobi queen,. And he's with him and he's trying to teach him how to budget and stuff like that. I watched the first episode. It was so bad. it didn't last

Aaron:

Whoa. Wow

Ashley:

It says Paul Bates, reprises roles. Aha. Who's the guy who's sayings, but the pilot went unsold. it was televised July 4th, 1989 as part of a CVS summer Playhouse, pilot anthology. but it didn't go anywhere.

Garret:

Mine,

Ashley:

blown. I know The one I thought was gonna be the least interesting Then I was reading it. I'm like, oh my gosh. I had no idea. so in the actual show he played Sammy Davis, Jr. Howard TIS I third was the one that you were talking about. Aaron it's, funky finger productions boom

Aaron:

yeah,

Ashley:

sugar Ray Leonard. He did a parody of MC hammer and then Michael Jackson, black or white was one of his bigger things that people remember.

Aaron:

I

Garret:

remember that video I do.

Ashley:

And postgame highlights. Davidson is a survivor after leaving and living color to deal with his own substance abuse issues

Aaron:

I saw where he missed most of season three, or four, because he was in rehab, dealing with some issues I'd say so yeah You get a pass man.

Ashley:

the other thing was he did, dabble in music a little bit. I'll link the song it was a song put out called sweet reunion with a famous saxophone player that people would know that I didn't write down because halfass homework, but, it was interesting.

Aaron:

Yeah. I'll check it

Ashley:

out. Yeah. It was interesting. I don't think he's gonna get the E ego, it was okay. But I quickly wanna put the honorable mentions. There was Steve parks who wasn't a comedian, He got introduced as a character and then he was in the background in like two skits. So yeah. But he was on there. He needs to be, he was on there. he found himself navigating stereotypical terrain. he usually played the Asian. Oh yeah. cause the one I did watch one he was a really rich Asian guy and he was doing videos to sell it, like say oh you wanna be rich Like me it right.

Garret:

yeah something of what you're saying is a little flicker.

Ashley:

It was just a tape where he was teaching him how, but they couldn't actually attain it. Tommy. Woo. Dropping Jim lines. Like You like hot tub, then come to my seminar, your piece of animal dropping anyway, that's his claim to fame. So Kim Coles, I love that. Aaron said that, queen Latifa was the first musical guest because as most of us know chemicals and, queen Latifa were in, living single later. She was only on season one and she didn't play major roles. She played a lot of side characters Yeah and then Allie Wentworth. Was another lady who was on there from 92 to 94. And just the other thing about her was she, married, ABC's lead anchor and political correspondent, George Stephanopoulos, who also Coors GMA with, Robin Roberts and Michael. and she did roles like Amy Fisher was her biggest one that everyone knows her for Hillary Clinton. I remember that one princess died And then also she played, Jerry Seinfeld's girlfriend in the famous soup Nazi episode. And so for you,

Aaron:

I didn't realize that was her, but I do remember the episode for sure.

Ashley:

I just wanna make sure they at least got mentioned

Garret:

yeah, That entire series was amazing from start to finish. Part of me is glad it had its shining moment, cuz everyone looks back on it and still thinks it was one of the best shows ever, whereas Sarah live some people have their favorite seasons and it's up and down, But this one, definitely got its shining star. the reason it started ending is the issues with Keenan. Um He stopped appearing in sketches at the end of the third season. And then in season four, left and his whole family left with him. And I don't think the show was the same after it still was good, cuz it still had Jim Carey Jimmy Fox and still had,

the people who were contracted onto there. But it just wasn't the same

Ashley:

do you feel like they took the fan base with them too? They're like, we are standing behind the way and

Garret:

You definitely miss some characters so basically Fox was airing the reruns of a living color without his permission or without his consent. And he thought it was devaluing, a living color for when it goes to syndication, that's how you make a lot of money. Is they buy the syndication rights? That's probably why Kelly can only act in one episode and all these other things and still be rich because she gets royalties from it. So, I understand why it ended it ended for a reason and the reason was he didn't have control anymore and they were censoring all that stuff, I'm glad that they stopped cuz all of them flourished in one way or another and it's still a bright beacon, I look back on that show and I have nothing but love for it. Yeah

Aaron:

It was just so cool. It was so different and I gotta see a lot of my favorite artists on there and it was just cool.

Ashley:

I like rewatching it too. some of the stuff that I haven't seen that we talked about, I'm looking forward to watching the rest of it. but I did have a few notes on, in living color, coming back out In 2012 they were saying that they were gonna do 25th anniversary. And keen and ivory was gonna come back, but it didn't happen. And then, Wayne's told the New York post that in living color 2.0, wasn't happening. The bar foreign living color is so high that if I didn't feel like we could sustain that, then I didn't wanna move forward with it. So I think he was like, we have reached the peak, if they do a reboot and it bombs, that's what people are gonna remember.

Garret:

He's right. they filmed the pilot, but he thought the pilot wasn't good enough to last an entire season or beyond an entire first season. cause I remember I was excited that it was gonna come out again. Yeah. And then I was like, what happened? But I'm happy with that decision.

Ashley:

I do think it's one of those things where it would be selfish for him to put it out just to put it out. It's for the better of everyone to not,

Aaron:

a lot of people would, if they were gonna get paid, no matter what

Oh yeah. A hundred percent.

Garret:

Exactly. It shows you, he has integrity too, that he cares about the value of what puts out. He cares about the fans. He just cares about everything that goes into it.

and I respect that and appreciate that.

Ashley:

I do too. A lot more knowing his story now that was in living color. I hope you, loved it as much as we did I don't know what you can watch it on now because I have Apollo TV. So I don't know where anything comes from. YouTube

Aaron:

is where I've been watching. have'em all on DVD, so I can let you borrow'em if you want

Ashley:

loaner.
