EP 172: WE'RE PLAYING BASKETBALL

In a society where male sports players are paid multimillion dollars, some would think the income disparity between male and female players is similar to other industries. And that assumption would be absolutely incorrect. In light of the recent 2024 WNBA Draft, we are witnessing salary gaps as large as 90%! How is this legal?

Speaking of fairness is a moot point. Anyone who can do math obviously would agree fairness doesn’t exist in this arena, no pun intended. But to think that one person playing the same sport as another can be paid only 10% of the other’s salary definitely sound a criminal. But in the grand scheme of things, what can we really do?

Some men would argue it’s up to women to boost the economy of the WNBA. But in reality, is it possible for women to carry the whole league into the light to ensure they’re paid millions when many women are struggling to get their own salaries? A fan is a fan. But how many true fans are there and are there enough to effectuate change?
