This episode is with Ruth Chiles, expert in working with performance issues and focal dystonia. She openly describes her own journey of pain and grief in developing serious creative blocks with her musical instrument before finding that the problem was the remedy all along. Ruth sets out how she developed a powerful and compassionate approach to meeting these disempowering performance issues through deep somatic and interrelational work to achieve fascinating outcomes with her people. It’s incredible to hear how the immense wisdom of the brain is always at work to bring relief and facilitate free expression if only we remember how to let go of the learned inhibitions that seem protective at one level but can also be so restrictive. Ruth has outlined her approach in her book titled, The Focal Dystonia Cure (2022) which has the foreword by Dr David Grand, Founder and Developer of Brainspotting.
