Welcome to the bevy podcast on the bevy podcast, we have fun, thoughtful conversations with friends. Pull a seat up to the table. Come chill with us. Hey, what's up. It is gratitude day number 29, only one more day to go one more day. And I say that there's only one mate, more day to go, but that's not even. The truth of it. Truth of the matter is you have a new limitless. Opportunities to practice gratitude in your day to day. Life. So after we wrap up tomorrow as part of our gratitude challenge, It doesn't mean you have to stop. I certainly want to continue to incorporate this practice and to my daily rhythms, and I hope you will. And you could do some reflection and assessment to see how it's gone for you. So that brings me to my gratitude for today. And my grateful y'all is. AC. Yes, that's right. Air conditioning. So here in New York city, we've had a fairly temperate summer. The spring, which is one of my favorite seasons. I actually was more than just a blip on the radar this year in New York city was actually a thing. I mean, we have kind of had just a Berry temperate spring, which means that I get to enjoy walking around the city and including running a. So I'd like to get out from my runs. Without dripping in sweat and it's been great. But over the last few days, That humidity has come in and then just come in with a vengeance. And. Unlike growing up down south, where AC is kind of everywhere. New York city is one of those places. And, my undergrad at Yale, same thing. Where AC. It's not always. given. So no one have AC it can be very, very hot and it can be even hotter if you're walking around the city. In super close. And even hotter if you descend into the bowels of the subway. So you get my drift here. Having AC can make a world world world of difference. And to that end, I think the city actually operates cooling centers so that people can go in and cool down. In fact, New York city has a very interesting tie in. With air conditioning. But of course, new Yorkers. Weren't the first people in human history trying to get. Cool Over millennia. People have been trying to cool down the ancient Egyptians, tried it by hanging mats in their homes so the Egyptians would wet the mats and then the idea. Would be that they would hang the mats up and the evaporated water would help bring the temperature down in their homes Romans tried it using aqueducts. but. As far as modern air conditioning, there's a really cool. Story that happens right here. New York city There were workers at Sackett and Williams lithographic printing company here in New York city. And they were just really tired of the muggy summer air, that same summer air that I was complaining of. And. They were upset because it kept ruining all their prints. So the solution was, they need it. A humidity control system. And this is where a young engineer named Willis carrier. comes in and he comes up with a system where you circulates air over coils. That were cooled by compress the ammonia. And it worked really, really well. They came up with the machine that helped with the humidity in Willis, had the idea that it could be used to help with heat too. The rest is, as they say. History. Willis carrier went on to start the carrier corporation, which today is one of the largest, most successful HVAC companies. And our country and the first to mass manufacture the air. air conditioner So anyways, that's what I have for you today until next time. Stay cool. And. Take it easy. Peace
