Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to Circula Parks Podcast, episode number 178. Today we are going to take you on a journey around Walt Disney World by talking about some of the iconic sounds that you will hear on your trip. There is far too much to see and do. We are here to help guide you through. We are here to help guide you through, but before we do that we must talk Disney merch.

Speaker 1:

So this week's Disney merch, if you are in Orlando, in Walt Disney World better yet, in Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park, go check out some of their new merch that they have for this time of year specifically, and it is a line of the merry menagerie and if you are not familiar with that, you have penguins, polar bears, arctic foxes that are like these really cool type puppets that you'll see in the park this time of year, and they've, and they have a merch line.

Speaker 1:

Basically now that includes a spirit jersey for $79.99, t-shirts, pins to trade. The t-shirts are $34.99. The pins are different prices. And then you also have light up ornaments in the shape of a penguin, squirrel and owl, and those are. The pack of a penguin, squirrel and owl, and those are the pack of three, is thirty nine dollars and ninety nine cents. So I don't know, I just love it. I've only seen it once in person, and so when I saw this line I was like, oh my goodness, the limited release pin is seventeen dollars and ninety nine cents. So anyway, that is this week's Disney merch.

Speaker 3:

Go check that out if you're over at the animal kingdom park yeah, if you're animal kingdom, this time of the year it is very subtle. It's not a lot of christmas decorations, but it's really well done. Yes, and the band that they have during when the puppets are out there with the still drum playing, so good it is, and the violin like it's so well done. Yes, it's, it's not like. It's not like magic kingdom. It's not decorated up like a lot of the other parks, but just enough for animal kingdom. It's so well done.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, like I mean you still have like a big christmas tree when you're first entering the park, but everything else, like zach was saying, is very subtle. They have like lanterns, things like that, but it's not in your face yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3:

when I was there a couple weeks ago they had the decorations up around the main Tree of Life area Again very subtle decorations. Now they do have Dinoland done well up like the dinosaur as you enter. Oh yeah yeah, yeah Is decorated up and I think they may have like the gunner thing that walks in Pandora right outside of Pongu Pongu.

Speaker 1:

They have that that kind of put.

Speaker 3:

They kind of dressed it up a little bit and they have like subtle decorations in Asia and Africa. So that's pretty well done. I think, but it's again subtle and like to that culture.

Speaker 1:

Right, you know, yes, culture specific, yeah, so it's really cool.

Speaker 3:

If you're there, go check it out.

Speaker 3:

It's not it's not Magic Kingdom, it's not Hollywood Studios, but it's still really good it is. I love it. Thank you for joining us. Episode number one hundred and seventy eight I'm excited for this one. It's going to be sounds you would think of, but when I play these sounds you're, you're immediately going to be at that spot and it may not be a favorite sound. It might, it might bring back bad memories, but it's the sound you're going to immediately recognize and it's going to immediately put you in that place. Okay, and I think sound is. Yes, visuals are great for walt disney world, but sound is a big part of it too. Not music this is not music, that's a whole different episode, right, but sounds and I think the sounds put you there and you remember it more it's going to instantly trigger that memory, along with smells, which we can't do a smell episode, right, music would be a good episode to do later on, because I think there's some wonderful music.

Speaker 1:

Like background music.

Speaker 3:

Background music, music specific to like the lands, Like the music at Test Track is like all like the attraction music. All that stuff is so well done.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 3:

And it's very memorable. So I think that could be a separate episode. That would take a lot more time and effort to do. These episodes do take time to do and we do put a lot of effort into them. But yeah, we're going to take you a journey around Walt Disney World by sound, and I'm Zach.

Speaker 1:

I'm.

Speaker 3:

Brittany, if you're just new here. Thank you so much for listening to us and following us. We really do appreciate it. Our goal here each week is to help you have a better Walt Disney World vacation and to take you to Walt Disney World. I think this is going to be the best episode for that that we've ever done. I hope so and break your week up in the middle of the week and just hopefully cure those Disney blues and help you out between trips or help you plan a trip that you've never done before. If you've never been before. These sounds are going to be like what is that and why does that trigger that?

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 3:

But if you've been once or twice or three times or even more, then you're going to go. Oh man, I'm immediately blank there, right.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

So you want to get right into it.

Speaker 1:

Yes, now guys, I've been working today, so if I miss some, don't hold it against me.

Speaker 3:

Well, this isn't a game. No, I know You're turning this into a game, you know what you're about to play, and I don't. Yes. So, you're going to be looking at me like what is this? Okay, so this first sound is one of the most iconic sounds you're going to hear in the park, and it's immediately going to trigger one thing. All right, so are you ready?

Speaker 1:

Yes, that's when you are first getting into a park and leaning in.

Speaker 3:

That is when you tap your magic band at the touch point.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

That is on the intro for our podcast right. When you hear that noise, where does it take you?

Speaker 1:

To the theme parks.

Speaker 3:

To the theme parks and tapping my magic band and you know you're going to have an amazing day. When you hear that sound, you know I'm in. I'm in. This is going to be an amazing day and I cannot wait for what's about to happen. This is going to be an amazing day and I cannot wait for what's about to happen. So, yeah, I had to add that to our intro for our podcast because it's so iconic. Right, right, yeah, all right, so next one. Thank you, play it again.

Speaker 1:

Thank you, I know that, but you might have to help me out a little bit.

Speaker 3:

That's for Star Tours.

Speaker 1:

It's been a while, since we've ridden Star Tours.

Speaker 3:

Star Tours, all right.

Speaker 1:

Here's another one, so it's a ride it is a ride. Think of that sound is it in hollywood studios?

Speaker 3:

in hollywood studios is it outside?

Speaker 1:

it is outside is it in toy story land?

Speaker 3:

yes so slinky dog yes, that is the noise from slinky dog dash when you're exiting the building to go up that first. Well, it's like a launch up that first hill and that's slinky hand is doing yeah, but that slinky sound as you get in there, I think it's very unique, yes, and when I hear I'm immediately put into that spot.

Speaker 1:

Well, and that's where it took me was the ride, but I didn't know for sure where in the ride it was for a minute.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, but it's right at the beginning there. Okay, all right, ready for the next one.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 3:

Is it one of the boat horns? No, it's not a boat horn. The train, that's the train whistle. Okay, right, so yeah. When I hear that, I'm immediately put. After we've tapped into the magic band, the turnstile right there, before you go underneath the train tracks at magic kingdom right, like still at the entrance. You're still at the entrance but you're past the touch point, right, I imagine. I remember our second trip.

Speaker 1:

It was but the train wasn't working then.

Speaker 3:

No, but the train was still there yeah they first they had they stopped running the train because they were doing the trunk construction, but for some reason that morning on our second trip in 2019, it was before the sun was even up. Oh, they were doing some kind of testing. They were testing doing the Tron construction but for some reason that morning on our second trip in 2019, it was before the sun was even up.

Speaker 1:

Oh, they were doing some kind of testing on it, or something.

Speaker 3:

They were testing it on the stuff and they were that whistle in the morning. So one more time, yeah.

Speaker 1:

So it takes you back to that trip. It just takes me back to we, didn't?

Speaker 3:

we kind of had an idea of what we were. We still had no idea what we were doing, but we knew more of what we were looking for. Yeah, we knew of what the mine train was. Right, we didn't know what that was before. Right, right you know, so yeah, when you hear that, what do you think of?

Speaker 1:

I just I don't know if I necessarily think of it like once you've tapped in, but even like outside in, like the promenade area or whatever it's called.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Because you can see the train yes, you know coming and going there, and you do hear the horn or the whistle. I'm sorry. And so it just puts me right outside of Magic.

Speaker 3:

Kingdom. Okay, ready for the next one, mm-hmm, okay.

Speaker 1:

Skyliner.

Speaker 3:

That is a Skyliner, yes, very just, unique, sound Kind of like Star Tours, but not quite Right. When I hear that I'm leaving the station and you just hear that and you're like, you feel like you're kind of floating a little bit.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's what I was going to say. It's like right, when you're like getting up in the air.

Speaker 3:

It's such a cool like feeling. I really love that sound.

Speaker 1:

Because it's kind of like a wee moment.

Speaker 3:

It is. Yeah, I'm immediately put on the Skyliner Early in the morning, late at night. Hopefully there's not a family in there with you. It's awkward. Another family, not yours.

Speaker 1:

Unless your family makes you awkward, then that's okay too but yeah, when you are in there amongst others, you know it can be a little odd yeah, all right.

Speaker 3:

Moving on to the next one, think of the sound the riverboat not the riverboat the ferry boat no, it's not the ferry boat, I feel this one, I don't know tomorrowland transit authority people mover. That's the people mover. Just why did you pick, I feel, this one? I don't know Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover.

Speaker 1:

That's the People Mover.

Speaker 3:

Yes, why'd you?

Speaker 1:

pick that for the People Mover.

Speaker 3:

The clunk, clunk, clunk.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, but it's hard to tell from that for me.

Speaker 3:

The clunk clunk, clunk. I know the clunk, clunk, clunk, but maybe it needed to be slightly longer for me to have gotten that from well, so it's hard to get these sounds without any conversation voiceovers or music playing that gives it away right, this is just the clunk, clunk, clunk yeah of the people mover and that is how it sounds now that you've said it, but I don't know.

Speaker 1:

It was very hard for just those few seconds to get people mover from that see, I hear that clunk, clunk, clunk. I immediately like, I know that's immediately like you I, I thought you would have picked for people mover like the, not where it would give it away, but just still a little little clip of the person that talks.

Speaker 3:

But oh, no see, that would have been a dead giveaway not necessarily.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it would not necessarily that that narration you would immediately know.

Speaker 3:

But that clunk, clunk, clunk, I immediately am put into Tomorrowland. Yeah, with the music playing and everything, I'm immediately put there.

Speaker 1:

Right, I mean, and I love people, movers so I'm like I can't believe I missed that, but it wasn't enough for me to go.

Speaker 3:

Well, I'm sorry, it's okay, it's okay, I'm sorry.

Speaker 1:

All right, here's another one.

Speaker 3:

Is it an animal kingdom? No, it's not an animal kingdom, it's very unique. The clock in the haunted mansion, oh.

Speaker 1:

That just rotates and it says 13? Yes, it, and it's played again. I mean, I it's hard to hear the clock, like I hear the ticking a little bit, but if it had just focused on that, you know but okay, all right, moving on.

Speaker 3:

You're just stuck on animal kingdom, aren't you? This one's kind of hard, because I was trying to find audio that didn't have narration in it, because that's a dead giveaway. Listen for the knocking and the clicking. Do you hear the clicking and the knocking, the clicking?

Speaker 1:

yeah, is that still Haunted Mansion? Haunted Mansion, it's where the doors are knocking.

Speaker 3:

Yep, yep yep, the knocking doors. Yeah, it's hard to get these without the audio and everything. So that was Haunted Mansion One more.

Speaker 1:

So that's still Haunted Mansion Still.

Speaker 3:

Haunted Mansion, the coffin scene. Oh, okay, where he's trying to get out of the coffin. Uh, yeah, that one's kind of vague.

Speaker 1:

okay, those, my bad, those weren't that good well, I mean now, now that you're saying what it is, I can picture it, but oops, sorry, but yeah yeah, okay, next one. That still sounds a little creepy. It is Tower of Terror, no, no.

Speaker 3:

That's still Haunted Mansion. Why are we stuck on Haunted Mansion?

Speaker 1:

Because there's some unique sounds in there. Well, I was about to say Haunted Mansion, but then the way you made it sound a minute ago, like we were moving on.

Speaker 3:

The stairs are yeah, we moved on to another sound, so the stairs that are upside down and the piano player, where there's nobody there but you see it in the shadow. That's that scene, I know.

Speaker 1:

okay, I'm kind of not not too good at that one no, it's fine and like I got the creepiness from it right, but I was, I don't know. I was thinking we'd moved, we'd completely left haunted mansion, so I was trying to think what else is creepy? That's all.

Speaker 3:

All right, moving on.

Speaker 1:

The monorail.

Speaker 3:

The monorail. That may be the most iconic sound in Walt Disney World. I don't know Spanish, but I know. Please Remain Clear of the Doors in Spanish and the doors closing.

Speaker 1:

Yep, yep.

Speaker 3:

Iconic.

Speaker 1:

It is so iconic.

Speaker 3:

We'll talk about that more when we get to Disney trivia.

Speaker 1:

Okay, all right, but yes, you will hear that each and every time, and the doors closing are a very unique like.

Speaker 3:

you're immediately put on that monorail, right. Yeah, either at Magic Kingdom or at the TTC or at a resort, whether it be the first monorail in the morning that we've been on or one that you've waited an hour for at the end of the night, right.

Speaker 1:

Well, maybe not an hour, but yeah, it can be an hour, yeah.

Speaker 3:

So yeah, the monorail is iconic, puts you right there. I mean, everybody knows that Yep, yep, so iconic, all right.

Speaker 1:

So you're in Epcot and Test Track.

Speaker 3:

That Test Track. Yes, that sound you hear all over epcot not hearing it right now because they're refurbing test track.

Speaker 1:

but and you don't hear it all over. You hear a good portion on the non-world showcase side.

Speaker 3:

You hear it quite often, you know. Uh, all right, we're moving on to some more that I recorded when I was there at the park a couple weeks ago, so these are pretty iconic too, and you're immediately going to go oh man, here I am right, but isn't that like the test track? I miss it right now Like the sounds.

Speaker 1:

Is it next year?

Speaker 3:

Next year. Yeah, and the music. That's what I hope. They don't change the music, because the music is really good. You know, yeah, they may, though. I hope it is like it is. If they change it, keep it kind of similar right. Right right, you know? Okay, here it again.

Speaker 1:

Is it Magic Kingdom, not Magic Kingdom, well kind of. Is it magic kingdom?

Speaker 3:

not magic kingdom? Well, kind of like one of the boats it's one of the ferry boat horns for that going from uh, seven seas lagoon or bay lake to magic kingdom or vice versa. So you're immediately put on that that boat right right like you know, you're on the water. You see everything. You see the polynesian contemporary grand floridian. You see the magic king.

Speaker 3:

Like you're, you're put right definitely on the water when you're on the water when you hear that yep yep, all right, here we go for next one, the uh, it's in the park it is, and it's the the in between the two lands, it's the liberty bell.

Speaker 1:

Yes, I couldn't think of the liberty bell name.

Speaker 3:

I'm so sorry, so this sound, this iconic sound walking between liberty square and Frontierland.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, see, that's what I was getting at you will no longer be heard, and soon.

Speaker 3:

We don't know when, but have you seen the? So, side note from here what's going to take this place? But you know, you're immediately like oh, I see the, I see, I just can't think of the name liberty bell for some reason.

Speaker 1:

So when I was spinning my fingers, like that.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I was thinking the river boat, yeah, that turns. And then I was like between the lands, yeah yeah, and so the car's attraction that's going to go here where rivers of america and tom sawyer island is they? At the d23, brazil last week they showed some footage of like a test track of it. No pun intended right it is supposed to be the fastest trackless ride ever made. Oh wow, like trackless and like moving really fast. Not like test track fast, but still fast, still fast. Not Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway slow either.

Speaker 3:

Right right, and it looks like they're definitely stepping up the game for this attraction.

Speaker 1:

We'll have to go back and watch some of that footage then yeah, but yeah, this is when you hear this.

Speaker 3:

I am just In the middle of the park, in the middle of Frontierland or Liberty Square. It just takes me immediately there and sadly, this will be a noise or a sound that soon will no longer be heard again, right? So use this as kind of a looking back at it, right?

Speaker 1:

Right, I got that. Right, you did. I just couldn't think of the name. All right, here's one that you may love to hate, or you may love.

Speaker 3:

Right, I got that right, you did, I just couldn't think of the name. All right, here's one that you may love to hate, or you may love it. I don't know. Brittany, where are you at?

Speaker 1:

You're driving I I know I was acting like I was driving like with the kids. So tomorrowland speedway in walt disney world. But you also have a um autopia out west yeah, but the autopia ones don't sound like this, not quite this is very unique.

Speaker 3:

Yeah to the tomorrowland speedway in tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom. And whether you love it or you hate it, when you hear that sound, you immediately know where you are?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I was immediately acting like I was driving or walking past it and you get that smell of the gas smell. But I was more picturing with one of the boys and how they kept jerking around and all that it's not fun with them anymore.

Speaker 3:

They try to drive nice. It's not fun with them anymore. They try to drive nice. Yeah, it's not fun. It's not as fun as it used to be. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Now, when I threw my hand up like stopping cause, they used to be like but yeah, this is, you know, is this attraction?

Speaker 3:

go on, fun as you're an adult? No, cause you drive, right, but with little kids it's so much fun. Yes, and a lot of people complain that they're not electric now, which they probably should. Yes, I agree, but when this is gone away, that sound and that smell, even though it's kind of obnoxious, you're going to miss it. Yeah, because you have fond memories of being on this with your kids or family members and that sound and that smell immediately takes you right there. Right, because if there's no sound to the cars, then you don't have that memory attached to it.

Speaker 1:

So, like you were mentioning, it's not the same out west, but it's still fun out there.

Speaker 3:

No, Autopia out west is still way better.

Speaker 1:

Right, but the sound.

Speaker 3:

But the sound, if it didn't have the sound would you even remember Tomorrowland Raceway Really? Or Speedway Still?

Speaker 1:

from the boys.

Speaker 3:

Yes, but that sound immediately like takes you there, yeah. Alright, here's one that people probably love to hate, but it is an important one, and you're immediately going to go. Oh my gosh, I never thought about that before, but here I am.

Speaker 1:

The buses.

Speaker 3:

That is the bus. You probably didn't even think. Oh, that's a Walt Disney World sound. That takes me back somewhere.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, but hey, at the end of the night, when you're like give me the bus, that's a good plan.

Speaker 3:

You're immediately either at your resort bus stop or you're at the barn, the bus barn at Magic Kingdom or whatever park you're at, but when you hear that, that puts you immediately in Walt Disney World. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

You know, yeah. So I'm not going to say it's iconic and you probably never even thought of it as a sound that you would remember, but when you hear this, you, you're. You know exactly where you are yeah I was I was at like the end of the day leaving the end of the night you're like, oh yes, finally, all right, this one finally just ah, okay, time to time to rest.

Speaker 3:

Time to rest. And this next one may be a bit obscure, but to me this is a sound that I recognize and it immediately puts me in this place. So when I was thinking of sounds for this episode, this was one of the ones that immediately came to my mind. So go with me here. It's a safari. When they're pulling up to either let passengers on or off, they have to get so close, like they make that. That's that with the bumpers they make that sound. So I immediately am at the safari right when I hear that sound and that may not be a sound that you've thought of, that it's like an iconic walt disney world sound. But now that you've heard it right, it may be now, though, right, yeah, because it immediately puts you right there right, right.

Speaker 1:

Well, and I was listening to what she was saying too, but yeah, but so if you played it with, so ignore the words in the beginning. Yeah, definitely where it revs up on the bumper.

Speaker 3:

But even just hearing the truck, the truck is a unique, not a unique sound, but it, but it puts you right there, right, right, you know. Yeah, all right, and last but not least, they're all equally awesome. Oh, we're almost done. We're almost done. Oh, I was having fun.

Speaker 3:

It's a fun episode, isn't it? Mm-hmm, this one, you're immediately going to know where you are and you're going to feel it too. Okay, you're going to listen to this and you're going to feel it in your chest. You're going to go. Oh, I just felt that. Okay. You're confused. Mm-hmm.

Speaker 1:

That giggle at it. I'm letting them listen.

Speaker 3:

Brittany, where are?

Speaker 1:

you In Animal Kingdom in Pandora. Flight of Passage.

Speaker 3:

Right before the ride starts. Right, you're on the back of your Banshee. You're linking to your avatar, right? So?

Speaker 1:

while you're linking, it's showing you linking to it on this little screen, on what you're sitting on, and the whole thing's just vibrating.

Speaker 3:

So do you not feel that in your chest? When you hear that you feel a little tingle in it?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you feel that it's like chest and stomach, everything it's like ooh, like, so you are immediately put right here, right?

Speaker 3:

yeah, so this sound was very hard for me to get. When I did so, I captured these sounds. When I was there a couple weeks ago, I tried to get my phone back in my pocket in my pocket, zipped up before the the ride actually started, and it happened. So normally this can take a little while, right, you're there for a minute or two and you're like oh, when's it gonna start? When's it gonna start?

Speaker 3:

right, this happened like quick, a lot quicker than I was used to, yeah, or expecting it to be, so I didn't want my phone to be out when the whole thing was moving but it was but it was, so I was able to get it back in just in time though, yeah, but yeah, I think that one when you hear that you're like, oh, just in time though, yeah, but yeah, I think that one.

Speaker 1:

When you hear that, you're like, oh, I'm immediately right there.

Speaker 3:

Right, right, and you feel that vibrations in your chest. You immediately feel it right, even though you don't feel anything now, but you think of it and you do feel that little quick vibration. Yes, so if you have not been to Walt Disney World yet, you're probably going. These guys are crazy.

Speaker 1:

Hey, there are so many more sounds too. These are just some.

Speaker 3:

These are just some and you know, I hope you enjoyed this episode. This was fun. I thought I really did enjoy this and I just thought it would be good to take you, the listener, on a different episode than we've done in the past and, instead of talking about it, actually put you there. Yeah, and if you've been a few times and you know exactly what those sounds were, and I hope, by doing this, that if you're having a tough week or just a tough day, you can hear this and you're immediately where that is right right, yeah, no it was fun doing it, you know, and I really enjoyed it and I'm, I hope you, the listener really did.

Speaker 1:

Britney enjoyed it yeah, I did and yeah, you know, and like there. If we could bring smells to you through the system, you know we would, because there are so many like like. There's times where even at home, like something out of nowhere will just be like, oh my gosh, that smells exactly like, you know Polynesian, you know lobby or walking through you know just, oh, that reminds me of this in Disney. You know there are a lot of smells but there's a lot of sounds, as you've heard, and there's more out there. But I think, like music at some point would be a good one Music.

Speaker 3:

It's just that's such a broad.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, like, do you focus on just the rides? Do you focus on lands, you know? Yeah.

Speaker 3:

I think to do that we would have to break it up to different episodes. Right, right we would have to break it up to different episodes, right, right, like. This episode is going to be about our favorite music, of our favorite music in lands and then favorite attraction music in that. What do you think?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, maybe, maybe.

Speaker 3:

All right. So that brings us to this week's Disney trivia, so I'm going to play the sound again.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 3:

And hopefully I can find it here. Nope, that's not it.

Speaker 1:

Nope, Hold on folks. There it is.

Speaker 3:

Who says that?

Speaker 1:

Por favor, manténganse alejado de las puertas, I had no idea.

Speaker 3:
