Tuesday Talks: Play, Pause or Pass? Periods in the Lifestyle | Episode 101

In this episode of The Swing Nation Podcast, the top-rated podcast about non-monogamy and swinging, Dan and Lacy are back with another Tuesday Talks, answering real listener questions from inside the lifestyle.

This week, they get a call from Chris, who’s dealing with a frustrating but very real situation — what happens when your period shows up right before a big lifestyle event? He wants to know how couples typically handle it, and whether being on your period is always a hard pass or if there are ways to still play within certain boundaries.

Dan and Lacy dive into the topic with their usual no-BS approach. They talk about some of the “home remedies” you should definitely avoid, as well as legitimate options that can help delay your cycle if timing is critical. They also break down how different couples approach intimacy during a period, and why it’s far more common — and accepted — than many people think.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to comfort, communication, and consent. Whether you’re navigating your first event or you’ve been in the lifestyle for years, this episode offers practical advice and reassurance around a topic that doesn’t get talked about enough.

SPEAKER_00

Just take your questions to Dan and the next day. Tuesday talk. Swing Nation got you feeling the next day. Tuesday talk.

SPEAKER_01

Talking Tuesday with Dan and Lacey.

SPEAKER_02

Ooh, how about that high note?

SPEAKER_04

That was perfect. Hey there, pineapple people, and welcome to the Swing Nation Podcast. We are your host, Northern Guy and Southern Girl. And we are back with another rendition of Tuesday Talk.

SPEAKER_02

We are talking about Tuesday Talk with Dan and Lacey. I was just gonna ignore you. Because you know it's kind of like a toddler when they misbehave instead of like making a big deal about it, you just like ignore them and then they don't they don't get the reaction they want, so they don't. You calling me other names.

SPEAKER_03

I didn't I don't know, I didn't do that.

SPEAKER_02

I know, but I'm just telling you what my strategy was going in. Anywho.

SPEAKER_03

I don't even know what you're talking about right now.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. So on to today is the question. I promise we love each other, guys. I for it doesn't seem like it. Like they I like if you don't know it, you probably think these people fucking hate each other, but I swear we do.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. I mean sometimes, but all right, you ready? Alright, let's go to the phone line.

SPEAKER_01

Love the podcast. You guys have helped us while we got started in the lifestyle and we've been having so much fun. So thank you. I have a two-part question for you. First, how do you handle it when your period decides to show up unexpectedly right before an event? The second part is how do you both handle it if your potential play partner has your period during one of these events? Do you pass it all together or do you just take the most of it and play with some limitations? Thanks, guys.

SPEAKER_04

All right. I think we've actually talked about this before. Uh maybe with Dr. Store. I think we've talked about some of this. Um but it's been a while, and I don't think we've done it as a Tuesday talk question. And this is a question that comes up quite often.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's actually not a super big deal. I get like I get people that are not in the lifestyle, they probably're thinking about like every possible situation, and they're this I can see why people it makes sense, you know. Um, but it's actually really not in common and honestly not a huge big deal.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, really. All right.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so as a female, I do not have a period. I've never had a period in the lifestyle. I unfortunately had to have a hysterectomy at 28. I'm 41. And I met dad in I met Dan, not dad, Dan. You can call me daddy in my early 30s, so I had already had my hysterectomy, and so I never thank goodness, I don't have to deal with that, you know. Um, but it is very common for girls or women to start their period, and uh, you can do a number of things. Um, one there is ways to stop your period. Um, there's ways to do it safely, and there's ways to do it like unsafely unsafely and safely. So if you're very interested in that, I'm gonna give a quick overview. So, but if you want to dive in, definitely go back and find our Dr. Stour episode where we talk about periods because we from like a doctor standpoint, she's an OBGYN.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we we did a pretty deep dive into this one time.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'm just gonna give you my the Tuesday talk highlights. Yeah, so the the bad way to do it is people start taking birth control pills, they'll take a ton of Advil, like an ungodly amount of Advil throughout the day or ibuprofen, and apparently that will slow it down or stop it. But there actually are medications that were made to delay your period. We Wisp is a is a affiliate of ours. I actually really like from a personal standpoint, if we weren't affiliated, I still would use Wisp just so you know how I feel about them. There's a lot of different companies though, like Wisp, Hertz. I even think Shameless Care, who's also an affiliate, does have some of these type products now. So definitely do figure out which one you want to you want to use. But they have a medicine that is made literally to delay your period. I northydrone, I don't know how you say it, but anyway, I literally Googled Wisp. And when I did, um, WISP, when I did the second button was delay your period. And I'm just gonna read a little bit about it. It says how to use to begin taking it three days before your period is supposed to start. And you can delay your period for your wedding, your honeymoon, your vacation, um, if you're going camping, at sporting events, whatever you want to do. So this is not like a lifestyle-made product. This is for like if you're going to the beach with your girlfriends and you don't want to have to deal with that. This is, you know, very common. It says put a pause on your period with a quick online consult, privately message a licensed medical provider about delaying menstruation. After medical review, your provider will prescribe treatment to put you in control. Most prescriptions are sent to the pharmacy within three hours of completing your medical intake form and phone call or video chat when necessary. When necessary, begin taking it three days before your period is supposed to start to delay your period. So it's very easy. I will say, if it was me and you are someone who still has a period, even if you don't have anything coming up, just get it, you know, and just keep it like I had literally have an emergency kit that we travel with and it has things for like UTI or yeast infection. This would be something that I would include in it if I was someone that still had a period. Um, I do know it says take it three days before you start. You can take it after you start, like if you start spotting. Um, like for instance, we were just at like a content house last weekend and one of the girls had started and had taken this, and it took a couple of days to stop it, but it did. I will say though, like I talked to her yesterday and she was having severe cramps because she kind of delayed, right? You know, it's so you're messing with nature, you know. It's so you're gonna probably have some consequences on the back end. I don't know if she was taking this. I didn't ask what she was actually taking, or if she did, like, you know, the under the radar, the not, you know, the not official way to do it. But definitely, um, if you have like if you're going to HETO or something like this, starting your period could be like a big thing. So just being prepared. We do have one friend that is the queen of starting her period, uh, Daphne. Um right before an event or during an event. Every event. And every time I'm like, Did you get your medicine? Did you get with no? And I'm like, I don't want to hear it. You know, it's super easy. You could literally have the medicine. Like, you don't even have to go to the farm, like you can have it shipped to your house. You don't even have to do anything.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So I highly, highly recommend doing that.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. And so I part of her question, and yeah, I was about to throw it to you. No, no, I was gonna say part of her question though that I I fully don't understand. And maybe you can explain to me a little bit, is she said, what if you get your period unexpectedly?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I thought periods were on a normal cycle, like they are, but sometimes things happen. Sometimes your body just starts, you know, it could sync up with other women, you know. I mean, there's just like a lot of variables, you know. So that's why I recommend having it because even though I don't have a period now, before I could almost tell that my body, like something was happening. Yeah, and I would say that like at the first indication, rather that be a cramp, a light spotting, go ahead and start your medicine. That would be um my and that's why, like again, I travel with an emergency kit for like for reasons like this.

SPEAKER_04

So with some women, it's a little it's kind of move around a little bit, and then some women it's fair.

SPEAKER_02

Some women it's like clockwork every single 28 days. Some women it might start at 26 or it might be 32. You just kind of have to know your body. And if you're one of those people that it might throw you a curveball, I would just keep it with me.

SPEAKER_04

Right. Yeah. And then that definitely, if it you're looking at your calendar and you're like, oh crap, that's my weekend.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, just go ahead and have it and then know. Then you can do the three days before you can go ahead and start. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yep.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Then the second part of her question is how do you feel what happens if you do start your period and you're at a party or an event or on a cruise or something like that? How do you handle that situation?

SPEAKER_02

So um, I'll let you comment on like the men's perspective, but from a female perspective, I will say there are many of girls that start. And some girls are like, I'm on my period, I can't do anything. You know, they don't want to be in the playroom, they don't want to engage, they don't want a part of it. Then there are girls that are like, hey, I would love to come and be a part of everything. You know, I don't want my husband to miss out. Um, I can do oral, you know, I can give, but other than that, that's all I'm gonna do. And and honestly, those are the girls I love, you know, like because you can still be a major part in it, you know, you can be the fluffer, you can get everybody ready, you know, you could bring a wand and you could get yourself off or have somebody from the outside if you're not real comfortable, you know, with it, you know, but if you're just not feeling it, you don't you don't have to be a part of anything, you know. So uh, so it's really your comfort level as far as that. Now, I will say, and I let Dan comment it, not all guys are freaked out by it, you know. Uh, and it's more of a comfort thing. Uh, you know, like there's a few girls that Dan will do not mind playing with. Like if they're, you know, not maybe not if they're their heaviest day of their cycle, but if it's towards the end or maybe they're just spotting a little, you don't personally have an issue with it. And I'll let you kind of chime in here.

SPEAKER_04

No, yeah, I and that was gonna say, I I, you know, I have really no issues with it. You know, I was married for a long time and um And you're wearing protection every once in a while a little spotting or a little blood is pretty was pretty normal, right? And yeah, we're always using condoms, always using protection. So uh I could see if you weren't if for some reason you're a person that plays without that, that might be more of a concern. Um, but for us that where we always use that, it's not much of a concern. So I've had girls, you know, actually just like you were you're referencing the con the uh content weekend. One of the girls was just coming off of her her cycle, and she was basically like, Hey, just so you know, I'm at the tail end of it, but there might be a little spotting, and you know, she just kind of put that out there. If you don't want to play, yeah, and they were like, if you have any issues with that, it's fine. And of course, all the guys were like, I got no issues with that. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So I think like being comfortable in your own skin and your own like womanhood, like we it's all like we all get it, you know. Like, even if we're not actively like in that stage of life, like we have been, and most men have been with a woman that has. So I think just like being honest and throwing it out there is probably better than like being like secretive and and funny around it. I think you'll find that a lot of guys really don't care, and it's more of like a personal preference than anything. Some guys even like it, some guys even like it, and some girls like are comfortable with like somebody that they've played with previously, but maybe not like a new partner, you know. So again, you have to decide as a female where your head's at and what you're okay with, and then just communicate.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I do think the right move is just to give a heads up and let people make the decision. You know, I could see if somebody, especially if you knew you were on that, and then somebody pulls out and there's blood being like Yeah, definitely tell my gut reaction would be like, oh shit, did I hurt you? Like, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_02

Because you have a big dick.

SPEAKER_04

No, well, I'm just saying that would be my gut reaction.

SPEAKER_02

Um, but yeah, definitely communicate. Um, you know, and I can see like if you're I'm to be honest, if you're like day two, one, two, three, you don't, I probably wouldn't want to be having sex. Yeah, but if you're at the tail end or it's you know it's finishing up, don't let it ruin your trip. Yeah, you'll you'll find that a lot of people are just in the lifestyle, we're kind of just okay with a lot of things.

SPEAKER_04

No, I can see like if you're going to a public playroom and you're heavily bleeding, that's probably not a good idea. You don't want to ruin sheets and like you know.

SPEAKER_02

But if you have somebody that you've played with a ton of times and you're comfortable with them and they're comfortable with it, you know, go to your private room and lay something down. You know, I mean, like, it's okay.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, agreed.

SPEAKER_02

Just do what you feel comfortable with and communicate.

SPEAKER_04

A hundred percent. All right. Anything else to answer that question? That's it. All right.

SPEAKER_02

Um we need more questions, guys. We do. We were a little short on them this week.

SPEAKER_04

So uh if you have a Tuesday talk question, there's a few different ways you can get a hold of us. You can email us at theswing nation at gmail.com. Theswing nation at gmail. Uh, you can email us the question, or you can uh send us a voice uh file. You can send us a video file if you if you wanted to. We've never got that before, but that would be kind of cool.

SPEAKER_02

We wouldn't show your video on the internet.

SPEAKER_04

Unless you said we could, maybe. Yeah, that'd be fine. Um it'd be actually kind of cool if you could splice it. I could probably splice it in when I'm editing a podcast, even.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Uh okay, so you could do that, or you can call or text, and that phone number is 972-302-7716. One more time.

SPEAKER_02

972-302-7716. I also wanted to add in, we've been getting a lot of texts about events, like if they can't find a link, if they have a question about something. We don't respond quickly to that. So if if it's a time-sensitive situation, like if you're ready to book and you cannot find our link, and especially because we recently have talked about what you get when you book with us for big things like keto and naughty and bliss. So a lot of people have really been paying attention to that. And for that, we greatly appreciate you. So if you have a question and we do not respond relatively quickly, always email admin at swingarsociety.net. That email address is monitored all the time.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I was gonna say, I think people that the phone, the Tuesday talk phone, the the you know, the podcast phone. Sometimes if we record three or four podcasts in a row, we might not look at that phone for a month. Yeah. And then sometimes we might even be then be in a hurry and grab a question from email. You know, so there's times when there's weeks and weeks in between us looking at that phone. So definitely if you have a question that's time sensitive, admin at Swinger Society for all event stuff, uh, we'll get you an answer.

SPEAKER_02

And we just really don't want you to like not have it. Like we very much appreciate all the people that want to use our link and want to support us and stuff like that. So by all means, if you want us to use help, we will help you. Just you know, we just need to be able to get you to the right person.

SPEAKER_04

Facebook groups, Discord groups, those are put good places in to go and ask questions, our staff monitors, yeah, those kind of places. So, you know, if you go on the Facebook group or the Discord group and say, Hey, you know, what clothes are we allowed to wear EP this weekend, or what's you know, how do I sign up for a room crawl? Um, the admin at swingersight.net email or Discord or Facebook, um, we'll probably get you the quickest answer. Yeah. All right, anything else for the swing nation listeners? And that's it. All right, I think with that, guys, in a whirl full of apples, be the pineapple. Be the pineapple, guys. Bye. Bye. If you've enjoyed our podcast and want to support us, leave a five-star review wherever you're listening.
