Bliss Cruise Part 2: From Bad Excursions to Backdoor Adventures | Episode 244

All right. Uh all right. So we had just finished um full swap on the front of the ship, and then we went to bed.

So then what happened?

So we um woke up on Tuesday morning and we were in Jamaica. So we were in Montego Bay, Jamaica, which if you've ever been to Hito, that's where you fly into. We've never really spent much time there other than getting off an airplane and onto a taxi. Yeah, and driving. Um, so this is the first time we've actually got a little time there, which we didn't get a lot of time, but um, so this bliss cruise, they they've been theming them. This is a new thing. I think this was the first one that they did that.

And it was called like the beach party cruise.

The beach party cruise.

Yeah, which honestly I loved because I'm a beach girl, and one thing I don't like about cruises is there's just not enough beach days, personally. So I was all about it. So um each of the beach days, one was gonna be today in Jamaica, the other one was in Cosmeo, they were an additional fee outside. They're an excursion, it's an excursion. So this first one was done by Bliss.

So you had 100% by Bliss cruise.

100%. So you actually purchased um the tickets through the Bliss app for this party, and it was really a no-brainer for us. Um, we love the beach. If it's something Bliss is doing, we're gonna do it.

And you know, you guys can go back if you listen to our podcast when Russell, the CEO, came on, he talked about this cruise, he talked about these beach parties, uh, talked about how excited he was. There's gonna be playrooms, there's gonna be a dungeon, uh, there's gonna be a beach you can get naked on. It's gonna be great. Yes. Right? He was excited, we were excited. That's where were we at going into today?

Okay, so we got up, we had um, I think we had like breakfast, lunch. I can't remember what time we got off. I think it was around lunchtime. The buses started, I think, around 11:30, 12. We got on a bus about one, so we were definitely not in the first few buses um to get to the islands.

Um, which in hindsight might have been better. We just we're not in any hurry, so we were just like, whatever. So um Reno couple also did this, so we just planned to go over with them, and so we got off the ship together. We um you very you know, you walked through like where you show them.

There's signs where to go, no problems there.

Yeah.

As you come off the out of the terminal, they had this uh this Jamaican guy that was playing music, people were happy and dancing and excited. Good vibes.

We got in a line and they were taking us by bus. We were not in line for very long.

There's a big line, there was lots of people. I think they said there was over between 1,100 and 1,200 people booked this. So there's over 1,100 people that booked this excursion. So you know, to to to to show you how big of a group that is, there was only like 2,500-ish, 25 to 2,800.

Yeah, so it's almost half of the ship is going on this excursion.

Yes. So uh we took the bus over to the beach party. Um my notes say it was rough.

All right, so this is this is kind of a this is a hot button topic, right? And we're gonna give you, listen, we're gonna give you the honest review from the Swin Nation podcast. I'm gonna caveat our honest review by saying we are friends of Bliss Cruise. We are, and we sell, we're affiliates. We we sell Bliss Cruise, right? We support Bliss Cruise. I think every I still support Bliss Cruise.

If they looked another excursion tomorrow, I would go on another one. Yes.

100%, right? So, but but we're not gonna lie to you and say this was all wonderful in roses. It wasn't. So, all right, so let's get into it. My first red flag is as we're getting off the bus, people are getting back on the bus.

Yes, and from my understanding, the buses only like did pickups like starting at three or four or something. I thought it was later. I don't that could be wrong. So when we pulled in and people were leaving, we were like, Oh, that can't what why are people leaving? Why are people leaving?

That that doesn't sound and and to be fair, right? So we we drive, you know, Jamaica, you feel like you're gonna get a in a car crash every five seconds. Yeah, we pull in. When you pull in, you're we're in this like wooded, shrubbery looking area. You have to walk through the room. Or some typical, like, you know, it's Jamaica. It's it doesn't look, it's not looking five star, right? It's looking Jamaican, a little more.

Yeah, but that's pretty common. You just kind of have to like kind of in it's the same way with Mexico, any any of this country, you kind of walk through and then you open up to this beautiful, you know, resort uh or beach or whatever you're going to. So so it wasn't, I wasn't even really alarmed until people started leaving. And then so as we're as we're walking in, it becomes pretty apparent pretty quickly that this is not what was sold to us um at all.

Right. So as we're walking in, people are walking out and they're not looking happy. Yeah, they're kind of shaking their head, they're kind of like, uh I think somebody might have said you might as well just turn around now.

Like but let's get into it. It was sold as a beach party, and there was not a lot of beach. Um, was there some beach? Yes. Was the beach that was there pretty? Yes. I mean, it was it kind of was pretty rocky, so it wasn't like a sandy beach, which is okay. Um, but they had kind of dug out and it almost looked like a watering hole, like a um a mud puddle. Yeah, yeah. Um, I immediately was like, yeah, I'm not going in that.

Yeah, so so one thing I didn't know, and and this people educated us on this later, is you know, some people said, well, as soon as they said they were having a beach party in Montigo Bay, I knew something was wrong because there's no beaches in Montego Bay. And I was like, I didn't know that.

Yeah, because we'd not spent a lot of time there. We had no way of knowing it.

So apparently the Montego Bay, the coastline of Jamaica in that area is very rocky. Yeah, lots of coral, lots of rocks, things like that. So this beach club that they had rented for this beach party did have a beach, but like Lacey said, what they had essentially done is I'm assuming used an excavator or some kind of equipment and dug out all the rocks and either put in sand. I don't even think they put in sand, I think they just exposed the muddy-ish sand, somewhat sand that was there.

Regardless of what you want to call it, there just wasn't a whole lot of beach area.

And so that's and what was it, a couple hundred yards of maybe what they was kind of beach?

Yeah, and there also was maybe 120 chairs, which we found out later. Supposedly they ordered like 500.

They just never showed up.

They never showed up. Um, but they went through.

SPEAKER_00

But even if they had 500 chairs, not enough. Well, no, not enough, and it they wouldn't have fit in that like where would you have put them?

Like they somebody counted an emblems employee counting, there ended up being 120. We found out later, but there was no place to sit. So so to make the best of a situation, because you know, like we all right.

So let's describe the whole thing, right?

Hold on for a second. My my mindset, and this is kind of like a running thing in our in our employee circle, it's just a sex party, right? And I even, to be honest with you, had this conversation with Russell on the beach at in Jamaica. It's just a sex party. So, like Dan and I are pretty easy, you know. We're not like fuming mad, we're not upset, we're like trying to make the best of it. So that's our mindset. Like, some people were genuinely pissed off, yeah. And some people also bought pretty expensive um cabanas. They were more pissed off because they spent even more money than like we did. So I just want to like we're we're pretty even killed, you know. Like, should it have been better? Yes, but like we also weren't like we were not, we're not the type of people that are gonna rush to a desk and be like, give us our money, but that wasn't us, you know. Uh, was I like low-key kind of bitching to like our friend group? Yeah, I'm like, this is kind of shitty. Yeah, okay, go ahead, lay out.

So let's describe the rest of it, right? So you got Mud Puddle Beach. Um, there are cabanas that you could have rented. I think they were over a thousand dollars.

I've heard different prices, so I don't know if there was different tiers. Yeah.

But they were they they were expensive. Um, the seats were like some of them were logs that were cut in half, some of them were hard seats. They did not look super comfy. They kind of looked like they were put together like in little shelters.

Like uh I've even seen that like people that didn't buy cabana were in some of them. They had to be kicked out, and then they were mad. And so I think it was just a whole thing.

So the cabanas were kind of rough. Uh the playroom slash, and then their dungeon, and then the we'll call it the food court area, were all like wedding tents.

Which I'm not mad at.

They weren't even nice wedding tents.

Because we've done stuff in wedding tents before that looked great.

So it's not one of them had like rips in the in it.

Look, I don't want, I don't really don't want to sit here and tear this apart. I'm just saying, okay. I do feel like you're tearing it apart a little. So I I and I don't think that's fair. It wasn't great, no. Was the play was the player in something that I would play in? No. But were people in there? Yes. The BDSM area was by far the busiest.

Other than the food, yeah.

Yeah. And then the food area, you know, there was a bar. Um, like they didn't have tequila. I think they had like base basically like rum.

They were running out of ice.

SPEAKER_02

They ran out of ice. The the drinks were so strong that I my mouth was numb. It felt like I had been to the dentist.

That's Jamaica, though. I mean, to be fair.

The food you ate, which you said was some of the best food you had. I was slightly based on the conditions of I don't think it was the best food I had.

It was the best part, I thought.

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Because it was it was jerk chicken, which Jamaica is you could probably buy jerk jerk chicken anywhere in Jamaica and it's gonna be good. Yeah, it was good here too.

I chose to forego the food because just the condition of everything else, I saw food poisoning. You know, I that is what I saw. Nothing on there was that looked that good that I was just willing to eat.

Yeah, not on a cruise, not when I'm trying to fuck people. So I didn't eat the food, but y'all said it was wasn't terrible.

I ate it, did not get food pillaging, and then it wasn't bad.

Yeah. Then they also had a an awesome stage area, which we if we're gonna give credit where credit was due. The stage was the nicest part, yeah. They had some amazing talent. They had some DJs from the cruise come over, which were awesome, and they had some local bands, some reggae music.

I really like the reggae music.

It was a little loud, right? But I was talking to somebody and they're like, that's just Jamaica, that's just where they keep their volume at. That's sort of like a cultural thing. It was too loud. It was pretty damn like we because we throw our own events.

I actually have a like I keep a meter that on my phone that I can test the decibel levels. It I won't say how loud it was, but it was too loud.

Well, because we didn't have a chair, we ended up just having to put our beach towels in the grass in front of the stage. So we were pretty like head-on to the stage, and it it was downright like we we had a hard time just sitting there. Um it was uncomfortable. It was uncomfortable.

They had a phone pit. Right? Phone party. That sounds like fun. What what was the phone party look like?

It was it it was a Walmart pool.

SPEAKER_00

It was a Walmart blue pool with a phone machine on it in it over it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so I mean, overall it was just not it was not the vibe, it was not great. I will say the human moment for me was you were, I don't know where you were, you were off doing something, and and Russell, the owner who y'all heard us do the podcast with, come walking by. And he was like, Did you eat? Are you everything you know? He was basically just saying you could tell he was not okay.

He was not okay. Or not happy.

He was not okay. Like he looked like he was emotional, you know, and I and at that moment, all the feelings that I felt about how kind of crappy it was immediately went away. It was like I put human emotions to it. I could tell that he was devastated that this is happening, and he was like, I feel like people are starting to calm down now. You know, I he was just like, this is just not you could just tell that he honestly he looked like he needed a hug, if for lack of I think you gave him a hug. I might have. I mean, I just like my heart broke for him. You could tell this is somebody that is trying to do their best, and he missed the mark and he really realized it. And so, like, we ended up leaving because there was a storm coming in. So we stayed.

I mean, probably till like we stayed there for a couple. I mean, I don't know, three hours, four hours. Yeah. And to be fair, once we got uh, you know, we put our towels down on the on the in the grass, went and got some food, got some cocktails. You know, sure we didn't go to the beach, we didn't get in the water.

Some people did dance, right?

But we were dancing, listening to the reggae music. You know, I've spent worse monies on money on worse things. You know what I mean? I've been at worse parties. Yes, you know, was it this like glorious beach party in the Caribbean with with a nude beach and but like first world problems?

We're in fucking Jamaica, yes, you know, in an all-inclusive island that we could basically we can eat, we can dance, we can drink, you know, like we can be naked. Was it ideal? No, no, but I will say the out you would think that you killed people's dogs. People were outraged.

No, I'll I will be people were outraged. Yeah, there was also hundreds of people there that were having a fucking blast, right? Yeah, so yes, 1100 of them booked. I bet half of them were party pissed off, and half of them probably didn't give a fuck. They're on vacation in Jamaica, drinking and partying and naked, and they could get people were in the Walmart pool, having a phone party, people were having drinks, people were dancing to the reggae music, people were getting their ass spanked in the in the playroom or in the dungeon. All about perspective, and some people were even fucking in the playroom where I probably wouldn't have got on those beds, but people were, and they were fucking and they looked like they were having fun. Yeah, so yes, is it what I expected? No. Is it what Russell wanted to put out as a product? I don't think it was. Um did it was it unacceptable to some people when they got upset? 100%. Was it still a fucking party in Jamaica? It was. It's just a sex party. It was, yeah.

And okay, so just to finish off the the beach, um, like I said, people were pr like it was like all like when we got back on the ship, that everybody was like, Do you go to the beach party? Yeah, like there was a whole thing. Um and they bliss pushed out through their app that night, you know, like in a we realized this is not our standard. I if you want my honest opinion, I felt like that statement could have been a little better. I felt like it was kind of rushed, but I think people were coming at them with pitchforks, so they just probably had to put something out to acknowledge something. Um, since we've been home, um, they have sent a very well-worded email, which I think was you know, they had time to let everything kind of like reflect and and probably write it appropriately. Basically, the I think they said like a hundred people lined up and complained, and all of those people have been refunded. But if you were not one of those and you felt like your time was wasted and you feel like you deserve your money back, if you emailed them, they would they would give your money back.

So or credit you or something. Don't say exactly it would they would do something to help make it right.

Yeah, they were not sure exactly what the yeah, I'm not sure exactly what happened, but basically they're making it right. Yeah, so we didn't, for the record, we did not do that.

We did not ask for our money back. And I will say, if you were somebody that went on that cruise, and if you were somebody that paid for that, I would almost encourage you not to go ask for your money back. Because here's what I don't want to happen. I don't want this to stop Bliss Cruise from trying to do these type of things, right? If you if you've been going on Bliss Cruise for years like we have, it can kind of get mundane, right? It's you have the little party on the ship, and then you go to the port, and then you go, you know, go ziplining or swinging with dolphins, or you're stuck on a a prude beach with you know families on vacation, right? So the I give kudos to Russell and his team for trying to say, like, this is a Bliss Cruise, let's make a an onshore bliss experience for people. If you've never shown thrown a swinger party, it's fucking hard.

If you imagine throwing a swinger party in a third world country for over a thousand people, impossible, right? So kudos to Bliss Cruise for trying to do the impossible and at least getting it half, three quarters of the way there, right? Like to be fair, that that what they pulled off was an accomplishment. Yeah, right. Was it what they wanted to do? Yeah. No. Was it what we expected? No. Was it an accomplishment? It fucking was, right? So you you have to give them credit for that. And I would hope as a community, we encourage them to get better and do more of that. Yeah. Right. And what I don't want to do is discourage them from doing things like that in the future.

Most places don't get it right the first time.

You know, there's we fucked up, you know, how many parties have we've fucked up? How many parties have we been through that were terrible? Like, you know what I mean? So it's okay, guys.

It's okay. I think and and I do get that bliss is a higher price point.

I think they're held to a higher standard.

They're higher held to a higher standard, but we're not always they're not always gonna get it perfect the first time. Um, so yeah, and we'll talk. There was another beach day, which I in my opinion, I feel like was a lot better. So we'll we'll get to that. But I just wanted I think that's important to like wrap it up.

Okay, so we're moving on. So we came back, it was it started to rain. So we came back and we did a little bit of shopping in the like as where you go back in, they have a little market. So we did a little shopping, got some gifts, some of our friends got um some gifts and stuff, and then we got back on the ship, and um we had to do an early dinner this night because we had some like work to do later. So we basically Bliss gives us times and dates of when we can go into these spaces and film, and we just sort of work our dinner schedule around it. So this night we had to be completely ready and we did a dinner at like 6:30. So just you and I went together on this night, and we had them um just put us with someone, you know, like yeah, so they they do what you can call open seating.

So when you go to sit down for dinner on Bliss Cruise, they can say, Are you open to sitting with somebody else? And if you say yes, they will just sit you at a random table with random people. And so we elected to do that on this trip.

Which I highly recommend if you're looking for pointers, totally do that. You never know who you're gonna sit with. So um, one couple we had met at Hito years ago, another couple were sweet, a little bit quieter. We ended up seeing them a lot throughout the ship. And then this other couple, you know, we started talking to them, and as like the conversation went on, it was very apparent that they they knew a lot about the lifestyle.

Yeah, they had been in the lifestyle 25 years or something, over 20 years, I thought.

No, I think it's they were been in the lifestyle since the 70s.

Oh, okay.

Um, they had been in lifestyle for a long, long time.

40, was it 40 something years?

SPEAKER_02

Maybe, yeah. Maybe. Um, and they ended up they had written a book, which is cool. I'm gonna give you the name of it because I know people are gonna be like, What book are you talking about? So I actually bought after sitting there and talking to them, they've actually wrote three books. So I bought the books, you can't get them on like audiobooks. So I'm going. to um read them to Dan while we drive to Salt Lake City.

Yeah, it's not, it's not a long book.

Okay. It's like it's an easy there's three. I'm just gonna start with the first one. It's a good car ride thing. It's called Forever Isn't Boring If You're Doing It Right. Marriage with a Flexible Guest List. So yeah, so they wrote written three books over the years and they were just like a super interesting couple to meet and hang out. And just hear all they we talked a lot about like AIDS, how the AIDS epidemic affected like they were throwing swinger parties when you know that happened. Just like a lot of like for instance we think of like COVID affecting swinger parties. Yeah for them it was so it was just like a very that's why I say sit with people you don't know you just never know the conversation that you're gonna have with people. So it was super interesting.

Of course we were the only going you know what stuck to me about that when he said you know AIDS you know kind of shut down their parties or I didn't shut them down but it went from can't remember he said something like they'd normally have like 120 couples at their parties and it went to like 20. Yeah. And then he you know what stuck out to me though is he said all the swingers had to use learn how to use condoms for the first time. They had never been using they had all never used them in their whole life yeah which is crazy.

Yeah that is so crazy. And it was glow night this night so it's funny because everybody so people say do you wear your glow do you wear your outfits to dinner? We usually do but not everybody does. So like at this table we are like in full rave glow outfit nobody else is nobody else is which was fine nobody cared you know we were fine um and then after that so so basically we got done with dinner early and about 75 not 715 like eight I think we went and did our tours of the playroom so on this night we got to do um that small it's it that couples only is it couples only one with it had like a giant like puppy pile bed. It was probably eight beds this year there might be the biggest orgy bed I think they call it the all passenger playroom. All that so we and it's a smaller one is actually a real I kind of wish we would have gone there at some point. That that orgy bed I was particularly interested in yeah it was a really so we it's almost like a splash size orgy bed yeah we have tours coming out of all of that so if you want to see it stay tuned.
