Outdoor Journal Radio Podcast Network

This week on Outdoor Journal Radio, Ang and Pete are joined by Dr. Steeve Côté, professor of biology at the Université Laval who is dedicated to studying the destructive potential of winter ticks on our moose populations.

First, however, a bit of housekeeping was in order. Topics discussed included: our 38th season; stocking bait instead of game fish; the plural of walleye; the Lake Ontario smelt invasion; grocery prices; how short ice fishing season will get; mandating life jackets; and getting burnt out of fishing.

With those matters out of the way, Dr. Côté joins the show! Topics discussed included: what causes bald patches on moose; the biology of Winter Ticks; how they find their hosts; whether humans are susceptible to them; why moose are particularly vulnerable; whether the tick problem is "new"; the edibility of tick-infested moose; what is being done to help; permethrin; hunting collared moose; and much more!
