If your child loves Roblox—or any online game—you’ve probably wondered: Is this safe? Are they talking to strangers? How can I protect them without being an overprotective parent? If you’ve ever had those questions, well, you’re in the right place.
"Welcome back to The Hangry Parent Podcast! I’m Demetrius. I’m here to give you just a tiny bite sized portion of answers to questions keeping parents like us, up at night. Today, we’re diving into a topic of online gaming safety, with tips to help you stay in the know and take control of your child’s online Roblox gaming experience."
Let’s dive in.
Roblox, one of the most popular platforms for kids, has introduced new parental controls to help you keep your child’s online experience safe.
These updates include tools to control screen time, lock down private messaging, and choose the maturity level of content your child can access. By default, users under 13 can only send broadcast messages unless you, the parent, change the settings.
Here’s the catch: you’ll need to create your own Roblox account and link it to your child’s account. It’s a little extra effort, but it does give you the power to ensure they’re gaming in a safe environment. Roblox is also using human moderators and AI to catch inappropriate content, but, just like every piece of technology, it’s not perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction.
Remember, keeping an eye on your child’s digital world is just as important as monitoring their real one.
If you’re interested in seeing a video tutorial of how to use these new tools, I put a link to it in the description below.
