Join Melody and Candi as they discuss the importance of being kind to those we come in contact with each and every day.  Candi's seven-year-old son, Hunter, recently displayed such a beautiful way to do that to someone he came in contact with and sets such a wonderful example for each of us.

Hi, I'm Melody and I'm Candi and you're listening to Quirks, bumps and Bruises. So glad you're with us on this episode of Quirks, bumps and Bruises. In Candi, I was stalking your Instagram recently and I saw something on your Instagram that you had put there that your little boy, hunter, who's seven years old, did. That really just melted your heart, but I have to say it melted my heart as well.

0:00:32 - Candi

Oh yeah, so it's not unusual for hunter, while we're at the dinner table, maybe at a restaurant, to draw on napkins. I mean, I kind of do it myself too, like when you're just.

0:00:42 - Melody

Well, some restaurants actually have like paper laid out where kids can draw and do things by. They're waiting on their food.

0:00:49 - Candi

But we had some extra napkins left over from our meal and Hunter asked if he could borrow a highlighter or a pen. Highlighter was all that I had, so I gave it to him. We're getting ready to go and I looked down and I see he had written the waitress a note, and it said God loves you. Thank you for your service, hunter.

0:01:15 - Melody

Wouldn't you love to know what that server thought? When was it a?

0:01:19 - Candi

girl. It was when she got that note, can you?

0:01:23 - Melody

if I were the server, I would have wanted to have come and hugged us. Yes, yes, oh, my goodness.

0:01:29 - Candi

And I was just so proud as a mom all of the nagging you feel, like you do, has finally like wow, he did this on his own and it just made my heart so, so grateful, but it reminded me of how important it is to be a witness to anyone that you come in contact with, obviously, but our waiter and our waitresses.

0:01:54 - Melody

And it doesn't matter how old you are, because I think I think Hunter just taught us all a lesson he did, although I do hope you left a good tip, kenny, along with that. Okay, see, that's my second thing.

0:02:03 - Candi

First thing is I used to work at a restaurant. I did not work on Sundays because I went to church, but other girls, but other girls would work and then on Monday I would get with them and they would be like oh, the church crowd yesterday was just horrible and and I am a church crowd- you know I and I've heard that too Candi there are so many servers.

0:02:26 - Melody

We've talked about this on the morning joy ride before and we've had servers call in and say that the worst day for them to work they feel like is on Sunday.

0:02:36 - Candi

How sad is that. And everybody comes in and their dress, clothes, looking all good, and they sit down and they're unkind and impatient and then leave it a track.

0:02:47 - Melody

Yes, now let me tell you something I'm not against tracks, absolutely not, you know but you've got to leave them a tip to go with that track. And you, I mean, you have completely messed up your witness If you are rude and impatient and hateful to your server after church on Sunday, and then you just leave a track there and that's their tip.

0:03:10 - Candi

Yes, y'all, let me tell you, coming from somebody who worked with, that's known and not appreciated and.

I can guarantee you that they won't be going to your church. I know a lot of times people are just worn out, myself included. I go to a restaurant after church and I'm exhausted. I don't feel like being kind Sometimes. I just want to eat, I just want my cheese tip and I just want to, you know. But you know you have to be set apart and so I try to always be kind and my church has started this thing where there's little cards and you can give them to your server and you can either leave them at the table or you can ask them. You know, right before you eat we're at my family and I, we, we talk to God and we pray and thank Him for our food. Is there anything that we can pray with you about as we pray as a family?Announcer 2

0:04:02 - Candi

You're welcome to stay and pray with us, or if you need to get back, you know we'll pray for you and those are definitely Wonderful ways to evangelize. But if you are rude and you don't leave a tip or your track is a tip, you're doing more harm than good.

0:04:18 - Melody

Oh, I totally, totally agree with that. Sometimes and I'm just gonna be blunt here we Christians are our own worst enemy, like the things that we do and say, even if you know, if you take it a step further, the way we react on social media, you know, it's just been amazing to me and I'm thinking, oh my good, you have just done such a disservice to the Lord by what you just put on your social media.

0:04:47 - Candi

Like, if you're gonna do that, don't let anybody know you're Christian.

0:04:51 - Melody

Yeah, oh, I know, you know there's that saying that says in a world where you can be anything, be kind, just be kind, just be kind. I don't know where and and exactly when in our society that kind of changed and it is so hard. Now, Candi, I feel like to separate the church from the world. Like I, sometimes the world looks better than the church.

Oh, it does and that's a problem. That is a real problem. I know a situation where there was a traveling evangelist pastor that had flown in or gone into this particular city to preach at a crusade or a revival or whatever, and he went into his hotel and I don't know if the room got mixed up or they didn't have his reservation. I'm not sure what that. What happened there? A holy terror fit right there like just completely Went off the rails. That quick you lose your testimony. Well, the next day the guy that was at the hotel behind the desk was at the church that this preacher was preaching at. He did not know that's who that was until he walked up to the pulpit to preach.

Now, there was no way that that man from the hotel Could listen to a word he said and believe it, and want anything to do with what he has.

Yeah, so we just have to do better. We do. We just have to do better. It reminds me of that song Candi, Gordon Mote sings it who will be Jesus? Mm-hmm, and we are called to be the light, and Many times I feel like the opposite happens. And I'm not putting down everybody, I'm not putting out Christians there are plenty of wonderful, light-giving Christians but we really have to do better when we interact with people. We have to do better when we are in restaurants to our servers.

We have to do better y'all when we're on the highway. What did you just say? Ball games? Oh, yes, your child's ball game.

0:07:01 - Candi

We have to do better the highway thing that you're saying. Yes, driving, I think that's where I struggle the most. I'm like I'll have my joy FM on listening praise in Jesus because he lives.

0:07:15 - Melody

Somebody cuts me off, yeah boy, I and you can lose your testimony real, real fast, yeah, and I know that we're human. I know that we get aggravated I'm not, you know those things happen. But I do know that we all could do better. We all could show more kindness in our everyday life.

We all could look even for opportunities To be kind yes that person that's in front of you at the grocery store and is a dollar short with her bill. With her, you know, with our groceries, you know, given that dollar to help that out. Or you're getting out of your car and it's pouring down rain and that Older person that has a cane and can't walk fast is trying to juggle a cane and an umbrella and you help them. There's just, there's ways all around us every day to be kind and, as that song says, who will be Jesus to them? Candi, you know the words to that song Tell us that there's wounded people everywhere right and when they look at us, do they see Jesus?

0:08:17 - Candi

Mm-hmm, you know they don't need a judge in their life, they need a friend.

0:08:23 - Melody

So who is going to be Jesus to them if it's not us that serve him and love him faithfully? If we can't do it, who's going to do it?
