Hi, I'm Melody and I'm Candi and you're listening to Quirks, Bumps, and Bruises. So, on this episode of Quirks, Bumps and Bruises, Candi, let's talk cooking for a bit. Yes, I have a few pet peeves about cooking. Now you know that I love to cook. Yes, especially if I have time and I'm not rushed and I'm not like an exotic cook or anything. I don't go, you know, and do things crazy, right, but I do love to try new things and cook. But why does every chef on TV say this? I'm going to show you how to make something with simple ingredients everyone has in their pantry, and I'm going to start with Madagascar vanilla, hemp milk and a single feather from a dodo bird.

Why is that I love, love to watch those cooking shows and, oh, I love it. Yes, and they're like now. This is a simple dish, that a busy weeknight you can put it together in no time. Yes, and you're right, I'm like. Those are not in my pantry.

0:01:04 - Melody

I don't even know where to locate those in the grocery store.

0:01:05 - Candi

Most of the time, I don't even know what it is, no Like what is?

0:01:07 - Melody

that I have no idea. You're not going to find it on the shelf at Walmart, no, right, no, which is where 90% of people are going to buy their groceries. They're out of touch, yes, but I still watch these chefs and. I still think their dishes look delicious.

I'm sure they are, but it just aggravates me, like, could you just do something normal? Could you just make a lasagna without having to put, like I just said, a feather from a dodo bird inside of it? I mean, like it's funny, because it's true, it is true. So let me move to my next pet peeve. I love to look up recipes online.

0:01:44 - Candi

Oh, I know. I know exactly where you're going with this.

0:01:47 - Melody

And so when I look up the recipe, you want the recipe, I want the recipe.

0:01:52 - Candi

I don't want a four-page blog about how to dredge something in flour and how your grandma grew up cooking this and showing you this when you was a tiny baby.

0:02:02 - Melody

No offense food bloggers, but I don't care. I just want to know what the ingredients are. Tell me what they are and then just tell me how to make it, do you know?

0:02:14 - Candi

that there is this just this week that has driven me crazy. Like out loud I will say what are you people thinking? Like?

0:02:22 - Melody

show me the recipe, but do you know, there's now like on a lot of those pages, it's called jump to recipe button. Yes, there is a jump to recipe button. You shouldn't have to push that Well a lot of times, though. Even when you do it I don't know about you if I'm looking at the recipe on my phone, about 100 ads are going to start popping up. Have you noticed that? Yes, do you want this? Do you want that? No, I just want the recipe of country fried steak.

0:02:49 - Candi

Yeah, I think it's time to go back to just the old school recipe books.

0:02:54 - Melody

I'm getting my Betty Crocker cookbook out.

0:02:56 - Candi

There you go.

0:02:57 - Melody

My mom had it and I've got it. When she passed away, I took it and I've got it in a drawer and it's falling apart because that's what she didn't have all the technology we've got when she was blessed so she would write recipes out.

She's got it in a notebook. Get all this stuff in her hand. You know her handwriting was beautiful treasure, and so I love that cookbook and I declare I think I'm going to go back to those old cookbooks that nobody uses anymore. Candi you go to Goodwill all the time I bet there. Back to those old cookbooks that nobody uses anymore. Candi you go to.

0:03:29 - Candi

Goodwill all the time. I bet there are gazillions of cookbooks. I've bought gazillions of them and oh, I love cookbooks. I mean I obviously can't make every single thing in them, but I just love to go through and see. What I love about online is that you can look at the reviews and people will tell you try this, it's wonderful, or this is great, take out the butter. I mean I love that aspect of it. So that's why I do a lot of online stuff. But you know it's hard to just be sitting down at your kitchen table flipping through an old recipe book and just have it on your counter, right.

0:04:00 - Melody

in fact, I had bought not too long ago a cookbook holder. Do you know what I'm talking about? It's like wood and you can just lay the cookbook on it, lay it flat. You could probably lay an iPad or something on it too, but I was at the time for like five minutes. I was into this Mediterranean diet type food and I had this really nice cookbook that would lay open for that. And again, it lasted five minutes and I don't even know where that book is now, but-.

0:04:27 - Candi

Goodwill. I think I bought it yesterday.

0:04:31 - Melody

I'm pretty sure you probably did. Yeah, why have we made everything so complicated and so?

0:04:37 - Candi

all about me, like I appreciate the fact that you grew up in a small cottage somewhere and your grandparents taught you how to roll old fashioned oats and churn butter. That's wonderful, but I don't care. Nobody else cares. Give me the recipe for the brownies, that's all I care about, and there are a few.

0:04:58 - Melody

I have noticed there are a few websites that do that. They just you go to the website and you can tell they're the same way. Here's your recipe, this is how you do it and this is how long you bake it.

0:05:09 - Candi

Do you know who the Pioneer Woman is? Reed Drummond.

0:05:12 - Melody

I absolutely love the Pioneer Woman. She is like my favorite. I just like the way that she does pretty simple cooking real stuff that people want to eat.

0:05:22 - Candi

Yes, you know she started off before. She had like a show and all that stuff. She was a food blogger so she would get on give recipes and she would talk like three pages long about the food. And I'm like even even with her I love her sense of humor and I love to. I can almost hear her talking when I'm reading her stuff. But it is still like she got famous talking about food.

0:05:46 - Melody

She did, and she was also a photographer. Yes, and so she would take these beautiful pictures of the food too. Yes, that is how she started. Yeah, now she's what A gazillionaire, because she's got cookware, she has clothing.

0:06:00 - Candi

Oh, Walmart is. I mean 90% of Walmart, I think is Pioneer Woman.

0:06:05 - Melody

I recently saw a little video that she had put on her Facebook or social media, and it was her garden that she had built. Have you seen that? Well, do I need to? Yeah, you need to take a look at just what her garden that she had built. Have you seen that? No, well, do I need to? Yeah, you need to take a look at just what her garden looks like.

You're not supposed to curve it. Well, she can just walk out and just get it, but it's so beautifully done, you know. But yeah, I do like her. There's others that I like. They just have too many ingredients that I'm not going to ever use and I've tried that before Like I've gone to the store and got the whatever, whatever that I will never use again and it just sits in the cabinet. It's just a waste of money. Just give us normal everyday food that you want to eat. Yes, that's all. That's all. I'm not asking for a lot in Life Candi Me either. I just want to go look up a recipe where I see the ingredients and I see the directions. I would be happy in life.
