So on this episode of Quirks, Bumps, and Bruises, Parker Webb and I sit down and talk all things Thanksgiving. So in this particular season of your life, what are you especially thankful for? It's Melody and it's Parker here on the morning joy ride. So Parker, we go through seasons of life. We're just in different places at different times. So I know you're thankful for your family. I know that you're thankful for the Lord who saved you. And I know some of the things that you're thankful for. But in this season of your life, besides those things, what are you especially thankful for?
SPEAKER_01:Well, this year, you know, and I I obviously talking about family, and this is in that vein of family, because we had a we had a tough year this past year with my dad having some major health issues. And even his doctors at this point, literally one year removed or uh since his problems began, his doctors are just blown away. And some of them even using the words miracle. Well, we know why don't we? Of course we do. And that's exactly what we're we're saying is a miracle. And so I'm especially thankful. You know, I've lost all my grandparents, but they lived to be up in their 90s. My dad is in his early 70s. So I I used to think, oh, what's life gonna be like without my grandparents? I I thought that for decades. Oh, that's gonna be so awful. And uh and it and it is, I miss them dearly, but never thought that we would be talking about potentially losing my dad early. Because you thought you may. We thought we might, and we didn't know if he was gonna make it to Christmas last year. So at this time last year, he was very ill. Very ill. He was in the hospital uh quite a bit. And um and so now, thank the Lord, he's not a hundred percent, but he's on his way back.
SPEAKER_00:He's gonna be able to sit around that Thanksgiving table and enjoy it.
SPEAKER_01:Last year he could not eat because of fluid that had gr had built up and all that kind of stuff. He could not eat his Thanksgiving meal. This year, he's gonna be able to plow into that dish as hard as he can.
SPEAKER_00:Y'all pile that plate up for him. That's right.
SPEAKER_01:It's gonna be high, high, and we're gonna put gravy on everything. So I'm especially thankful for what the Lord has done in my dad's life.
SPEAKER_00:Right. Right. That's awesome. Well, you have that chance as well to tell us what you are especially thankful for in this season of your life. You can call or text 888-985-6936. So, Parker, I'm gonna ask you this question. Yes. You're sitting at your Thanksgiving table. Right. And you have just a buffet of deliciousness in front of you. Yep. What is your first bite?
SPEAKER_01:Uh, hands down, my mom's twice-baked potatoes. Oh, I love those. Oh, she does it for Thanksgiving and for Christmas Eve, because we have a big Christmas Eve dinner. And so it's that, I mean, the the cheese just melting off. I've burnt my tongue because I cannot wait to get it in my mouth. And uh then I'm calloused for the next several days on the tub.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I I make those. And uh you cannot not like those, right? I know. Well, mine, and I mentioned this earlier this week, is a creamed corn dish. It's very easy to make, but in this cream corn is a whole block of cream cheese.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, wow.
SPEAKER_00:So it and you just let that cream cheese melt all into the corn.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:A little salt and pepper, a little butter in there, and that's it. It is just melting your mouth good. Oh, I want that recipe too. Oh, that's I mean, I'm not gonna make it.
SPEAKER_01:I'm gonna have pass it off to you. It's a crock pot recipe, super easy. Oh, that sounds wonderful.
SPEAKER_00:Great to take to like a church function. Absolutely. So, first bites, and we talked about this a little bit earlier this week, and if you didn't have a chance to weigh in on that question, we'd love you to answer it. Sitting at that Thanksgiving table, what is the very first bite that you're looking forward to? Triple eight nine eight five sixty nine thirty six. Hey, hey, hey, it's Melody. It's Parker here, and Parker Thanksgiving just a couple of weeks away. Can't believe it. So let me ask you this right off the bat. Do you love Thanksgiving?
SPEAKER_01:Oh my word. My favorite time of year is from Halloween, or Reformation Day is like I I like to call it, all the way to Christmas. Actually, New Year's. I love this time of year more than any other time of year. Yeah. And so we're right in the middle of my favorite time of year.
SPEAKER_00:I know. It's kind of the calm before the storm in a way.
SPEAKER_01:This yeah, the these two, three weeks before Thanksgiving, 100% calm before the storm.
SPEAKER_00:Earlier in the week I talked about how I feel like it's calm before the chaos, you know, kind of begins to happen. But I love Thanksgiving. I always have. Oh, yeah. But this will be my first Thanksgiving without my parents. Oh. And let's see. Well, I I'm old, so ever since birth, I have had Thanksgiving at my parents' house. At your parents' house. Well, until about eight years ago when my mom passed away, it was handed over to me. Gotcha. And so we have it at my house. But my dad is always there. So it's gonna be a different Thanksgiving. I know that little poem called the empty chair. You know, it'll it'll just be different.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, for sure. Well, no, that was the way ours was. Every Thanksgiving, we were at my dad's mom's house and parents' house. And um, I remember the first Thanksgiving when we did not have my grandmother, which was only a handful of years ago. Yeah. And um, oh, it was awful. I know. You know, and I my cousins there's five cousins on the website, and and we're all married and have our own kids and you know, spouses and all that stuff that we have to go do our own uh, you know, with them. But we all text each other the morning of Thanksgiving. Yeah, you know, and we tell we remind each other of jokes, and that my grandpa used to say he was the most unserious individual I've ever met. Never serious. If somebody would start down with politics, he'd make a funny joke and we'd just all start laughing.
SPEAKER_00:You know, so oh how I wish it could be like that and it was wonderful.
SPEAKER_01:Oh yeah, oh yeah. Um the only time he ever got serious was we had this prank. My grandmother hated mice or rodents, anything. It was awful. And so Cracker Barrel had this little raccoon tail on a ball. I don't know if you remember that, and it would you'd hit and it would roll around. Well, we talked about taking a used chip bag, putting that thing in the chip bag and letting the tail hang out, and we were gonna put it in the bottom of her pantry. Oh my goodness. And we were just laughing and we were trying to figure out how we can get this in there without her knowing and all this stuff, and which would have been easy. My grandpa looked at me, he said, Y'all trying to kill your ma'am all at once. So we just we laugh about that kind of stuff. You know, but um it oh I love Thanksgiving. Oh, I love Thanksgiving. I do too.
SPEAKER_00:I do too. Well, we're gonna talk more about some Thanksgiving-y type things coming up. You're gonna want to stay with us here on the morning joy ride. Parker Webb, quick question for you. Cranberry sauce or no cranberry sauce? No cranberry sauce. So you just period. Doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_01:I don't know what it is. It's just not your thing. It's not my thing. And um now we never really had it a lot. You know, I told you we were we were go to my grandma's house. We never really had it a lot. I think my mom has put it in the mix a couple times, but it's just not my thing.
SPEAKER_00:And here's the funny part about it. A lot of people, my daughter is one of them. She likes to bring the cranberry sauce. That's one of the things that she brings. And uh she don't want it homemade. She don't want to take cranberries and make cranberry sauce. She is all about the can. And she likes to dump it out, and you can see the ridges of the can.
SPEAKER_01:Yep. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:And she cuts it into little slices. She's all about the can. But there are so many people like that.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:So that is just a great question today. This is a two-part question. Do you even like cranberry sauce? Yeah. And I'm more like you, Parker. I'm not real big on it either. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:It's just there.
SPEAKER_00:Secondly, do you like homemade cranberry sauce or do you just want to dump that thing out of the can? Let us let us know what it is for you at your house. Hey, it's Melody along with you here on the Joyride. Parker Webb is here too. So, Parker, I've got some fun Thanksgiving little jokes for you. Are you ready? I'm ready. And the cornier the better, right?
SPEAKER_01:Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00:So, how do little pumpkins cross the road?
SPEAKER_01:Hmm. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00:With a crossing gourd.
SPEAKER_01:Oh my goodness. That's great. Instead of a crossing guard, did you get it? Oh, right out of the shoe.
SPEAKER_00:I'm in terms of you, Parker. I don't know. You're so nice. You're so nice, I think you may just act like you get it.
SPEAKER_01:Sometimes I might. But I am a dad, and you know that whole big thing about dad jokes. So the cornier they are, the better, and the more apt I am to get it. Okay, well, good. We'll keep going. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Why is corn so popular on Thanksgiving? Why? Because it's amazing. Amazing.
SPEAKER_01:Well now that one's deep. I mean, do you have to stretch for that one? That's hilarious. I love it.
SPEAKER_00:What should you expect at the end of Thanksgiving? Indigestion pills? I mean, what the letter G. Hey.
SPEAKER_01:For sure. I love it.
SPEAKER_00:So what comes at the beginning of parades?
SPEAKER_01:Uh a P. The letter P. I'm catching on.
SPEAKER_00:I'm smarter than I look. Here's a great one. If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring? I have no idea. Pilgrims.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, that's great. Oh, I love it.
SPEAKER_00:So did you hear Parker about the scarecrow who won first prize? No, I did not. It was outstanding in its field. Oh.
SPEAKER_01:Listen, wherever you're getting these, uh, they deserve a gold star. I love it. Well, I've got more, so stay with us on the joy ride.
SPEAKER_00:So it's Parker and Melody, and we're doing extremely corny Thanksgiving jokes today, just for your entertainment. So, uh Parker, what did the pilgrims use to make cookies on Thanksgiving? Hmm. I have no idea. Mayflower. Oh my goodness. That's great. So what smells the best on Thanksgiving? Hmm.
SPEAKER_01:Well, I I mean, I would I would think the pumpkin pie.
SPEAKER_00:Your nose.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, it's hard to use your ears to smell what's going on in it.
SPEAKER_00:That is funny. So why don't side dishes tell jokes? I have no idea. They're too corny. Oh. These are great. What did one pumpkin pie say to the other pumpkin pie? What is that? You want a piece of me? These are awesome. What do you call a sad cranberry Parker?
SPEAKER_01:I have no idea. A blueberry. Oh my goodness. That's great. I'm going to use these. Okay. I am going to use these.
SPEAKER_00:So what did the autumn leaf say to the tree? What's that? I'm falling for you. That's great. And did you hear about the Thanksgiving engagement ring? No, I did not. It's 24 carrots. And what kind of music do pilgrims listen to? Tell me. Plymouth Rock.
SPEAKER_01:104.1 Plymouth Rock there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:I love it. So why did the cranberry blush? I don't know. Because it saw the turkey dressing.
SPEAKER_01:Now, see, that's that's one I think my boys would would think is hilarious.
SPEAKER_00:All right, last one. I know you're disappointed, but it's the last one. Why should you never tell secrets in a cornfield? I don't know. Because the corn has ears.
SPEAKER_01:Womp, womp, womp.
SPEAKER_00:I do love that you laugh at my jokes, Barker, because most people don't.
