Proverbs 14:12 says "There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death." This simply means, when we personally choose our own way apart from the Holy Spirit's direction, we are stepping out of line and going off into lawlessness. All of us have done this at one time, and thank God for His mercy and grace which enables us to get back in line again. But depending on the route we choose, if we choose lawlessness, we can get into a lot of trouble and some of which is very difficult to recover from. The devil is a liar and he never presents lawlessness the way it sounds--it always sounds innocent the way he puts it to you, and in some cases he presents it as spiritual with scriptures he waters down, or twists for his benefit. But when we listen to him, we will feel our heart get pricked upon that first sin and if we continue in it, the blindness and deafness to God's Word and the Holy Spirits direction will follow. We'll quit reading our Bible or praying. We'll quit going to church. We'll quit fellowshipping with other believers. But what's worse? To be doing what appears to be right outwardly while inwardly departing from Jesus . Jesus Himself said in Matthew 7:22-23, "Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?  And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’" Many, not a few, had given this statement to Jesus. And we know from Matthew 25, that 5 out of the 10 virgins failed to enter in to the wedding feast because they weren't prepared and did not expect/long for His coming---though they were set apart in devotion and were attending to the Bride/the Church. It's important to know Jesus personally and to spend time with in prayer, in the Bible and in Church fellowship. But knowing the Holy Spirit and His Word is the only answer for a Spirit Life Walk. When we reject the Bible, or that message on sin that our pastor preaches, we are rejecting Jesus and are lawless. We must cut out lawless thinking by renewing our mind on the Word of God.  Romans 12:2 says, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." We cannot follow our thoughts. We are only transformed when we conform to Jesus!
