There is this saying that goes, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." This saying doesn't mean that "the tough" person is the one who decides its best to bail out of a bad situation, but that was just what Elimelech decided to do, to take his family out of God's country into the cursed land of Moab. He had a choice. His land was under the judgment of God because the people of God had chosen to disobey God's commands and pretty much ignore God's voice from the priests on down. So that opened a door in their land for foreign invaders, famine and destruction. But scripture clearly points to the preserving of those who are faithful, even in a dark time. We must choose to follow Jesus closely, and stay filled with the Holy Spirit and His light even as this world gets darker. Jesus will be the one who sustains us, and can causes us to prosper in supernatural ways if we obey Him! But we must choose every day to follow Jesus and to not go back to Moab!
