U.S. Women’s Olympic Basketball and former WNBA Connecticut Sun Head Athletic Trainer, Nicole Alexander, joins Glenn on the Field to discuss how elite athletes can overcome ADHD and PTSD challenges while still performing at the highest levels of their sport.  Nicole shares the connections between ADHD and PTSD, and how symptoms like inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity can increase the risk of traumatic situations. She explains the common overlapping symptoms, such as brain fog, irritability, and sleep disturbances and sheds light on how ADHD-related struggles with executive functioning can make it harder for athletes to be organized and develop healthy coping strategies for stress and trauma. Nicole also provides insights into the potential warning signs of ADHD and PTSD, the importance of accurate diagnosis, how athletes can flourish with ADHD and PTSD, and the available treatment options to help athletes thrive both on- and off-the-field or court.
