Parker Byrd, Middle Infielder for the ECU Pirates, joins Glenn on the Field for the next installment of the Focused Driven Athlete: Athletic Spotlight. Parker shares his journey growing up in South Eastern, NC, becoming a standout high-school infielder, and earning an early scholarship to East Carolina University in the ninth grade. He opens up about the tragic boating accident the summer before college that resulted in a below-the-knee amputation of his right leg, nearly derailing his athletic scholarship. Parker discusses the mental and physical battle of his recovery, the mindset shift that helped him rebuild his identity, and what it took to return to the field as the first NCAA baseball player to compete with a prosthetic leg. He reflects on the moment he made his historic collegiate return to the field, the support that carried him, and how adversity and resiliency reshaped his purpose. Parker also shares why he now lives a purpose-driven life as a motivational speaker and what he hopes other amateur athletes can learn from his story.
