FULL EPISODES OF SOUNDTRACKER CAN ONLY BE FOUND EXCLUSIVELY ON PATREON!
Lots and lots of movies have soundtracks. Some are classics. Some are bad. But the majority fall somewhere in between. This podcast is going to take a look at all of them (or, as many as I can). Every week I'll be covering a different movie that had an original motion picture soundtrack, and then digging into the album. One part film discussion, one part music discussion, the Soundtracker podcast is here to help you navigate the wide world of movies and music. In each episode, myself and a guest discuss the movie and its soundtrack, rate each one, give you our picks for the best songs on the soundtrack, and suggest additional recommendations for what to watch or listen to in relation to whatever we're covering. So join me, as I look back at an era that's largely a thing of the past, and maybe you'll find a new favorite film or song along the way. New episodes every Friday. Episode 114: Above the Rim, with Coley Mick and Trill Withers (of the Third Time's the Charm podcast)
Today is a big one for the show. First of all, it turns 3 today. Oh, and also, I finally FINALLY get to talk about my favorite soundtrack of all time, ABOVE THE RIM--which just so happens to also soundtrack a very good movie. Oh, and ALSO, I'm joined by the very funny duo that makes up the Third Time's the Charm podcast, Coley Mick (@ColeyMick) and Tyler (you know him as Trill Withers, or @TylerIAm on Twitter), who bring their knowledge of basketball and horny R&B music for a very funny episode.
In this episode we talk about Tupac's charismatic menace as Birdie, the very well-done basketball scenes, Wood Harris, and in a first for the show, we talk about the soundtrack for even longer than we talk about the movie itself. And what a soundtrack it is. Besides the monster singles (Regulate and Afro Puffs), it has a mix of sunny R&B, more great rap offerings (including my favorite Tupac song of all time, Pain), another of my all-time favorite 90s soundtrack songs (Blowed Away by B Rezell) and a smattering of very horny songs to keep things honest. And the entire soundtrack is available on all streaming services, including the 3 songs that you could only find on the cassette version of the soundtrack. Which is something I talk about at great length in the episode. But you'll have to listen to the episode to hear it. Don't do it for me. Do it for Nutso.
