🎙️ Episode 101/Season 4: The Most Underrated Moment of Every Wedding Day — and Why You’ll Treasure It Forever

[Intro Music Fades In]

Tammy:
Welcome back to The Complete Guide to Wedding Photography for Couples Getting Married.
I’m your host, Tammy Blalock — an internationally awarded wedding photojournalist based in Texas.
Each week, I help engaged couples make smart, confident decisions about their wedding photography so they can relive their love story for generations to come.

[Short Music Transition]

Tammy:
Today, I want to talk about a part of the wedding day that often gets overlooked — but in my opinion, it’s one of the most emotionally charged, story-filled parts of your entire celebration.
It’s the getting ready portion of the day.

Now, you might think this time is just about hair, makeup, and nerves, but as a photojournalist, I can tell you — this is where some of the most powerful, unscripted images of the day happen.

Tammy:
This is the moment when your mom helps you into your dress.
It’s when your best friend sits beside you on the bed, laughing one second and crying the next.
It’s when your partner writes a last-minute letter or straightens a tie with shaking hands.
It’s quiet, it’s emotional, and it’s filled with story.

These are the kinds of photographs that you’ll look back on and feel — not just see.

Tammy:
And here’s why this time matters so much from a photography standpoint:
It sets the tone. It’s the foundation for the story of the day.
When I arrive to start documenting, I’m not just capturing what’s happening — I’m learning who’s important to you, how people interact, and how emotion flows through your family and friends.

Tammy:
If you’re planning your wedding timeline right now, here’s my advice:
Give your photographer space and time to document this part of the day.
Plan at least an hour for final touches, details, and interactions.
Make sure the room has natural light and stays as clutter-free as possible.
And most importantly, don’t rush through it.

You’ll never get this part of the day back, and you’ll be amazed by how much emotion these photos hold once the whirlwind is over.

Tammy:
So, while you might think the ceremony or the first kiss is the “main event,” the truth is — your getting-ready photos will tell the quiet, beautiful start of your wedding day story.
They’ll show love in its rawest form — before the walk down the aisle, before the vows, before the applause.
