Ladies and gentlemen we interrupt our regularly scheduled podcast for some sad news from Minnesota: the Pillsberry dough boy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 75.
Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin.
Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, hungry Jack, the California raisins, Betty Crocker, the hostess Twinkies, and Cap’n Crunch.
The gravesite was piled high with many flours.
]Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was Kneaded.
Born & Bread as Jonathan Pillsbury, and called by his street vendor name, Poppin Fresh, he was raised in Minnesota. Doughboy rose quickly to fame in the warm Minnesota summers and was toasted as plus size star in show business. But his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes.
Despite being a little flaky at times, he still was a crusty old man and was considered a sweet ROLL model for millions. He enjoyed time in the baking sun with his dog Flapjack, and lounging in his resting Doughboy chair with his cat Biscuit.
Doughboy is survived by his wife Play-Dough, and three children: John Dough, Jane Dough and Dosie Dough, plus they have one in the oven who will be named Bun-Bun. He is also survived by his elder father, Pop Tart. He is preceded in death by his Granpopper, and Granmommer, and his uncle Rollie.
The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.
In lieu of more flour, the Yeast you could do is rise to the occasion and share this episode with someone who is having a crumby day, and kneading a lift.
