Hello and welcome to the Late Kick Off Football podcast episode 211!

And then there were 16. Hosts still contending, African and Asian sides mostly falling by the wayside, it is starting to get the feel of a generic 32-nation World Cup.

Germany lose on penalties for the first time since a young man named Paneka took the most famous spot-kick of all time; England are through a nervy affair and will endure the Azteca 40 years on from that Maradona performance; France and Spain carry worthy favourites tags after dispensing UEFA counterparts; Koeman departs, surely to be replaced by a Dutchman of yesteryear, or worse, Ruud; Brazil’s vibes based approach is working just fine for Ancelotti; and holders Argentina breathed a sigh of relief as they saw themselves past this year’s Cinderella side.
