#181 - Interview with a Former Division 1 College Athlete: Part 1

Tokyo Academics

This week, Tokyo Academics Lead Admissions Consultant Jennifer Liepin sits down with Amy Denson, a former Division 1 college athlete, professional basketball player, and Division 1 coach, to discuss the athletic recruitment process for university-bound students.

In this insightful episode, Amy shares her extensive experience from both sides of the recruitment table. As a four-year starter at Arizona State who earned Pacific-10 Conference All-Freshman first team honors in 2003 and Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention in 2004, Amy brings firsthand knowledge of the student-athlete journey.

Following her collegiate career, Amy played professional basketball internationally across five countries, becoming a two-time Australian all-star and three-time league MVP in Puerto Rico. She later transitioned to coaching as an assistant for Portland State's Division 1 women's basketball team, where she focused on player development and international recruitment.

Perfect for student-athletes and parents navigating the complex world of athletic recruitment, this podcast delivers critical insights into what young athletes should consider when pursuing university opportunities. Now working as a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner specializing in thyroid health, Amy also discusses the importance of health and wellness in athletic performance and long-term success.
