Jeremiah had been hated and persecuted by his own people, but now in desperation they turn to Jeremiah. The people feared the future, but they had already predetermined that they should flee to Egypt. It seems rather that hearing from God on what they should do… they were more interested in getting God’s stamp of approval on what they had already decided to do.
