Welcome to the wisdom and wealth podcast, a series of conversations designed to equip our listeners with helpful insights necessary to simplify the critical decision points of life. We believe true wealth is the thing Money cannot buy, and death cannot take away. Furthermore, we also believe our calling is to enable others to fulfill their own. And to that end, we endeavor. I'm Josh Klooz, the senior wealth planner for Carson wealth here in The Woodlands, Texas. Those who know me know that Thanksgiving is probably my favorite of national holidays. Yes, I know there are many cultures who have some similar holiday recognized but it's always stood out to me in America, especially as special because of the way we treat it. Somehow Thanksgiving manages to be both creedal and both national in a religious sense. And after all, who cannot be a fan of a day devoted to gratitude. So in place of our weekly focus, I'm switching things up a bit. If you're a Wall Street Journal subscriber, you may or may not be aware, but they've been running the following editorials entitled desolate wilderness and a fairer land every year, the week of Thanksgiving since 1961. Each time I read those two pieces, I come away encouraged. And I think you will too. And mainly this is because I believe that it's a fitting reminder for us, especially in this week, I would encourage you to read both of those columns, as they remind us that we have always been an entrepreneurial people in search of a way to create our own life our own way in life. The first portion is a reprint or a description by Nana Nathaniel Morton and William Bradford. So yes, you'll you'll have to get past some of the old English but it essentially describes the Pilgrims leaving their families behind in search of a new life and describes the cruel realities of arriving in winter, which strikes me is probably the very first Hey, I don't have a plan B course of action taken in American history, if you will. The second article or the second piece, the fair land is written by a gentleman by the name of Vermont Royster, and it is one of the most poignant pieces on the American spirit that I probably ever read. And so for today, I'll read you just the last two paragraphs and end with that. But we can all remind ourselves that the richness of this country was not born in the resources of the Earth, though they'd be plentiful, but in the men and women who took its measure, that reminder is everywhere. In the cities, towns, farms, roads, factories, homes, hospitals, and schools that spread everywhere over this wilderness. We can remind ourselves that for all our social discord, we yet remain the longest enduring Society of free men and women governing themselves without benefit of kings or dictators, being so we are the Marvel and the mystery of the world, for that enduring liberty is no less a blessing than the abundance of this earth. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody. Well, that's all for today. Thank you again for joining us. We trust that you are better equipped to steward both your wealth and your financial resources.
