Great to see you, Don. We got we got two weeks in a row here, seven days since last time we saw each other, which is you know, uh, we haven't done a lot of that in this this summer, this off season. So I'm really happy to see you tonight, Don. I'm doing great. Um, the weather's cooled off a bit here, work is slowing down a bit. I'm kind of cruising into a vacation. My family's about to take to Puerto Rico, so I'm really excited about that. Yeah, a little trip to uh to Wisconsin this last weekend, so I could uh you know re-up on some spotted cow and some hinterland uh cherry wheat and blueberry stuff. Um saw some family, a chance to have some dinner with my dad and and his wife, and um that's just and my stepmom, you know. There's a there's a word for that. Um, yeah, and just it showed the kids around Madison a bit, did the farmers market on Saturday morning, which was one of my favorite things about you know my childhood thinking back to the city. Yeah, it was so great. And uh Maxwell Street Days was happening on State Street, so bargains and and people watching and stuff. So we had a good we had a really good time. It was really nice.

No, it had clean the day before it had been. So we got lucky with the timing. It had pretty much cleared out by the good.

Oh, good. I was wondering how you were gonna deal with that. Yeah, I'm doing great. I'm starting to get a little bit more normalized after all the 6,000 medical things I've had in the last year, and yeah, it's exciting to come on two weeks in a row, getting in that shape for the season coming up after your vacation will be weekly again. Um, going by leak weekly really wasn't ever our plan. I I can always find things to talk about, believe me. But uh, but yeah, so thanks for everybody and Matt for your patience with all my medical stuff. It's been a lot, and I'm starting to feel a little more like myself. It's really a good feeling.

As long as it's an artist, I'm I'm okay with that. So yeah, Maddie. So I can't say that I went anywhere exotic or anywhere out of town. Um, let's see, my big excitement is um I'm I am repaint, I'm painting a large piece of furniture. It's a it's a very large entryway uh foyer table chest type of thing. I forget what you call it. Not an almoir, but whatever. I forgot the word, but it's a pretty simple.

It's not quite a banquet, but almost that big. But it's it's it's more modern looking and it's was really pretty um dark wood. It had some marketry and whatnot, but it it it got chipped a few times, and it's my out it's outside, but it's indoor outdoor, it's completely covered, right? So it doesn't get the elements or anything like that. And of course, here the weather is it doesn't get rained on or anything.

Well, yeah, I mean it's not like ever gonna anyway. So the most damage it's gotten over the last few years is just me, you know, like squirting my plants and getting water on it and stuff. And so it kind of was starting to look a little uh and I'm like, well, I don't want to re I don't want to put any money into this thing. Sure. And I don't want to refinish it. That's not my that's not my forte at all, but I can paint it because I'm an artist. So I got the pr primer on it today, and I was like so proud of myself for getting something done because I haven't been able to do hardly anything for a couple of years. And uh it's primered, and tomorrow I'm gonna put the regular coat on it. And um, so that was my big accomplishment for today. I felt good. I felt good about my accomplishment. Yeah, I've got some other ideas of things I want to do. Do you remember you remember when I got my kitten, right? When she was a kitten. It was like right when we started our podcast, and then I built her a catio, right? I built that thing, and everyone's so impressed with that catio, but it needs to like every few years, you need to like tune things up a little, change the screens, that kind of thing. And so my next big project is going to be to take the catio in, well, in to the outside. It has to go through my apartment to go to the outside, and um and just kind of tune that up. That'll be kind of a big job too. So I'm kind of excited about getting that redone and I got some new wood and oh, and the other thing I did, oh my gosh. So so I can maybe ever travel again, since I feel like I might be able to travel again. I want to install a drip system for my urban garden. Okay, but it's a little tricky because it's not like an outdoor drip system off of a hose line or off of a spigot, you know, thing. I have to do it off of my kitchen faucet. So, and I'm going to do it in a way that I'm not gonna put it on a timer because I'm not comfortable leaving an apartment with the water on.

Because something could blow. Okay. So it's gotta be one where just my friend will come over and just turn it on for a half hour a day type thing. But anyway, Matt, OMG, getting the right fittings to go from the kitchen faucet to the regulator because you gotta regulate the it can't be full force water, it's gotta, you know, step down, and then you need another attachment for that, and then you put the drip line in. I went back and forth with returns and purchases and return. I'm sorry, I know you don't like chat GPT, but thanks to ChatGPT for getting me through this drip system because I could never have done it without chat GPT. Because you have to, I had to look up all of them. I don't know, but no, no, no, no. It was way too complicated and intricate, and I can't yell at Google the way I can with ChatGPT. Because when I get really mad, I'm like, you just told me it was three-quarters of an inch. Anyway, so I got to yell at Chat GPT when the part was wrong, and it was like very liberating. Anyway I have my Don.

I need to I need to tell you, I'm I'm worried. I'm worried when you tell me about yelling at Chat GPT because I think you'll be the first on the block when the robots take over. I don't know. I'm just I think be be friendly to it, please. I don't want to oh, I'm very friendly.

I'm very friendly, but when they you know when they lead me astray, I let them know. I'm very good at like that's not what I asked you. Look at my question, look back at my question and and tell me what I just asked you. Oh but that's just because I now that I have a little bit of energy and a little bit of time to do things, I'm like want to do 6,000 things since I'm all pressurized. Yeah. So I'm taking it out on the chat. But no, I don't use chat GPT for anything else. I mean, you can go on YouTube for some of this stuff, but if you have a question, a lot of times the videos you're looking at, the person isn't active anymore. It's a great video, but it's like there were just too many things that were very specific that I couldn't I couldn't do it any other way.

Okay, well done. I'm back in form. I'm back in form. Well, Maddie, I do have a few superlatives tonight, and I know you do. I do, even though it's off season and it's gonna be less and less off season. When you come back from your vacation, will they be playing pre-season games?

Uh I think it'll be just a little before, but we'll definitely be in training camp because it's gonna start while I'm on vacation. Right miss the beginning of it because I am probably not gonna be um consuming any content. I'm just gonna be out on a beach day and out.

I I shall all right, Don. Thanks. My first one, okay. My first one, the category is best guest, and I'm just gonna say that I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I thought I'm gonna give it a chance. Give this give this guest on this show a chance because this is somebody who we we haven't talked a lot about here, even though they're a major Packers content creator, because I I mean, I I'm not trying to be rude or anything when I say this, I just don't listen to their stuff very much. So uh this past week, Peter Bikowski was on uh Pack A Day with Andy, and it was a really good episode because it made me realize that by not listening to like locked on Packers, um there are takes that Peter has that I'm not familiar with. So hearing him on Pack A Day, um, you know, because I've heard Andy's takes like you know all off season, every day is in my ears. Um, so to hear like some some different ideas and stuff uh was really fascinating. It's like, oh, I hadn't considered that, and I hadn't heard anybody else considering that either. So a couple things that Peter said, and I can't remember specifically what they were, but a couple things he said just really kind of struck me as like I that's a good perspective, that is very interesting. So I did really enjoy that. I would say, you know, people have feelings about Peter Bukowski. I try to stay neutral about it, I just I just don't have to listen to his stuff. Um, but even if you are the biggest Bukowski hater, check this episode out, it's really good.

I heard um Andy talking to Justice about announcing that that it was coming up um last week. I haven't had a chance to listen to it. I do listen to Peter um I wouldn't say as regularly as as some, but depending on what's going on, I will definitely listen to Peter. I know people there's been some talk about him and whatnot, but I haven't really gotten into that. I don't know what's going on there if something happened, but whatever. So yeah, I know I've called him out on our show, and now you're making me want to go listen to that because I completely forgot about that show. What's coming up?

I mean, I think what I would say, you know, to try to like look at it fairly is that Peter is extremely smart and works hard at what he does, you know, has built a really impressive you know podcast and the work he does with Jason Hirschhorn, who is excellent, um, is very impressive. And sometimes he doesn't play nice on social media, and so that rubs people a long way sometimes, you know. Um, I think people don't always like the way he comes across, put it that way. And I'm not saying that with any judgmentalness, I'm not judging, not trying to you know cast any sort of judgment, let's say. Um just saying kind of what what I see, you know. Um, but suffice to say, I do respect the work he does for sure. You know, he's he's very smart, he's very good at it.

Oh, yeah. Off season is weird on Twitter anyhow, and on Blue Sky. It's it's it's a strange place for sure. It's it's it's a bit more people are bored and being weird, basically.

Well, people are into you know baseball. Some I popped on for the World Cup a little here and there, um, but yeah, not a whole lot. Some things I have to go on Twitter for for a couple of the lawyers that I follow. And sometimes they're they're like, you have to read this, you know, anyways. Like, I don't want to go on Twitter, but okay. But occasionally I'll do that. My first um, my first superlative is most salacious. Okay. I don't know if I've talked about this channel or not before. It's called Tony Talks Football. Did I talk about Tony Talks Football before?

I might have, um a 49ers fan, and he's been like really the voice in the wilderness about the whole Roussini Brabell situation. So he does, but I wasn't really following that a whole lot, but I just knew that a lot of people were calling him out for that. But he is now that same voice for the Matt Miller scandal.

Yes, and I just think he does a great job. I like him, I like listening to him. He's just I just like his whole style. So if you want to check out some of the salacious things going on in football, Tony talks football is your guy, even though he's a 49ers fan. No, I got a couple of 49ers fans that I love very much. So yeah, so most salacious, but he does it in a very, you know, he appears to be very factual, not not uh, you know, not like hey, I'm spilling the tea here. It's gossipy or anything like that. It's more um, he may be a professional reporter. I don't know where he came from or anything. I haven't looked into his background yet, but yeah, it's called Tony talks the book. And he's been he's been called out on the Roussini stuff by like major, like um major national I'm trying to think of one, like PFT or uh Florio, for example, has called him out. He doesn't call out a lot of content creators that are yeah, yeah. So that's why I was like interesting. He's been called out by other content creators as well. His name kept coming up, so that's why I checked him out.

Next one, best ball knowing. All right, so there are some people who are just so good at understanding the nuances of football and are good at communicating. You know, we we obviously talk with people a lot, but this week there was a video that was just so good, Don. Everyone should should pause this podcast and run to YouTube. If you didn't see it yet, it's so good. What I'm talking about here is uh that Tyler Brooke did in another episode of Best Available about a Packers player. It was called Devontae Wyatt is worth the contract extension. And so, why I am so glowing about this is that I don't know from good defensive tackle play, I don't know what I'm looking at here. You know, I'm just seeing people kind of colliding looking for like gaps and how things open and like looking for the the grass and you know how the space is open. But the the finer points of the technique, not a clue, not a single clue. And so what Tyler did here is he broke down several like clips of Devontae Wyatt doing really cool stuff, but it's subtle, and unless you really know what you're looking for, you really don't see it. So, kind of like bringing us into what he is seeing here, and you you start to realize like Devontae Wyatt's really good, like he's really good, yes. But the thing is it's it's not like a glamorous position, it doesn't get a lot of attention. Um, that it's even like a running thing, I guess. Uh, with uh the acne packing people that like PFF does not know how to grade this position at all because he tends to grade kind of lowly, kind of low, kind of low compared to other people on the team. But he's doing amazing things, so um, it's really worth watching. It's like 20 minutes. It's you'll you'll learn a bunch of stuff. And uh Tyler is such a good communicator of these sorts of things, uh, really adept at like using the film to demonstrate what he's saying and just communicate it clearly. Um it was good, it was really good. I loved it.

You know, the thing is like when his contract extension hit the news, you know, a lot of people were like, really? Really? Who's that? You know, like non-player, not non-packers fans. Like, I never heard of that guy. He's he's really great, actually.

It just keeps popping up, so here we go. Super Bowl winner. This is a biggie. Super Bowl winner. Suspect in Florida fire attack. I think they can just call it arson, but they're calling it a fire attack. I don't know why it's a fire attack. It's arson. Uh Javian Hawkins played for the Rams when they beat the Bengals in 2021. So not that long ago. Yeah, I know. He's not playing anymore. Obviously, he's setting things on fire. And evidently he was working for this establish, this establishment called Tropicare of Florida. He was um he was an employee, like a driver. Like, I don't know, as a Super Bowl champion, then what happens to people? I don't know if he was hurt. I didn't look that much into his background. I probably should have. I shouldn't be asking this question. You're probably here to hear me talk about it now that I think about it. But yeah, just another one of those crimes coming up uh on my radar, Super Bowl winner, which just is kind of shocking. You can see, you know, X player, X NFL player, but you would think, I don't know, for me, maybe somebody goes to the Super Bowl, they kind of have a pretty decent path for their future, even if they can't play football a lot of times, they can do something in the you know, in the sport. So it's really sad to see that. Really sad.

Yeah, it is. I mean, there's a funny comment here. I maybe shouldn't make light of it here, but uh name not familiar with Uberflecka. Welcome says, excuse me, God forbid a retired player have a hobby. Setting stuff on fire, maybe not the best hobby, but um, yeah, that's true. Because we tend to think of the football players as being like, you know, set for life and and they're they're stars, but the money only lasts for so long. And if you weren't somebody who had as big a paycheck, you know, and you're on your first contract, you're making your second contract. It's like you need to go have a life doing something, hopefully not setting things on fire. But yeah, what becomes of the bottom of the roster players?

And like I said last week, I'm not like picking on NFL players or anything. It just comes up because they have a name in their community, usually, and so they're gonna have more headlines, but NFL players are not more crimey than anybody else, statistically.

That's right. as you as you cited last week the the study that said they were not crimier exactly they were not crimier at all what else have Maddie um next one uh best tweet so this is going out to my guy Twilly Allen and uh you know how Aaron Rodgers was uh like visited his family and there's pictures all over Instagram and all over social media do you see this stuff Don I did not see it somebody mentioned it that's all which made me happy yay it's about time yes pictures of him with his mom and with his dad and with his I think his brother um you know of course famously Aaron Rodgers has been like separated from his family and people like well you know talk talk mess about Aaron Rodgers like he's a bad person for that means sometimes families don't get along it's kind of a sad thing but to see these photos of him hanging out with them it's pretty cool you know it's like oh that's nice um especially as somebody who just saw my own mom and my own dad this last weekend you know it's like yeah that's that's good stuff well anyhow so uh Twilly Twilly Allen um Thomas William Allen uh he quoted like the picture that and said Aaron Rodgers talked to his family before the bears had a 4000 yard passer oh perfect perfect no notes yeah beautiful beautiful twilly I do miss Twilly I miss some people on Twitter like a lot but oh well okay what you got to do the next one most yellow canary okay what okay let's go with it I was just grasping for what to call this one Ryan Gold ex director of scouting for the Cardinals I am just gonna warn you all yeah warn you all I'm gonna be like a little bit Packers glamour here okay um so the NFL suspended Cardinals um executive did you hear about this Matt you talked about last week right no it happened okay no it was somebody else no I probably talked about Matt Miller last week um so okay so NFL suspended Arizona Cardinals director of college scouting so it's a pretty high up person uh indefinitely for violating guess what the league's gambling policy which you know this gets my go applies to players coaches scouts executive all club employees all league employees okay across the board you can't do sports gambling so it prohibits NFL personnel from participating in sports gambling facilitating gambling or providing non-public information that could create an unfair advantage which is the latter is what they're accusing him of so according to NFL's investigation gold participated in a sports betting and in sports betting and provided confidential non public information about the Cardinals 2026 draft selections before those picks were announced.

Oh no oh no that's on everything yes now gold is appealing the suspension his attorney said the gambling activity I think this is hilarious the gambling activity was actually his wife's and that yeah he blamed his wife um and that gold did not know the cardinals final draft selections well enough to s to share them he was the director of scouting yeah I think he does uh I I just think it's laughable and obviously if that's true dude what are you doing as director of scouting for the Cardinals okay obviously nobody knows until you're in the war room that night and things change but he he certainly knew and had enough intel to direct people to tip people so that they could yeah yeah okay so Gole's role as director of college scouting is exact he exactly why he had access to the draft information. Having that access was part of his job. The question is not whether he's allowed to know the information the question is whether he disclosed the information. That could give someone an in fair unfair advantage embedding so um he was suspended by the NFL but not fired by the cardinals. I guess that's the way things work because if the cardinals were to fire him before the investigation was over then he could sue them. Like wrong determination yeah so there's a lot of that that goes on it's just always a little confusing people don't think about I don't always think about that. So but for me this is my grandma spiel okay so my concern about gambling in sports is also what we're normalizing um particularly for for younger fans and sports broadcasts and podcasts are filled with gambling advertisements betting lines promotions encouraging fans to place wagers sometimes free framing it is free or harmless or dead cheap even as a way to make watching a game more exciting. They really are showing that in the videos uh in the advertisements in the imaging so um but gambling isn't harmless for everyone and research shows that young people exposed to gambling are at a greater risk of developing gambling problems later in life and that younger brains obviously are still developing in judgment skills, impulse control and decision making skills needed to fully understand long-term um consequences of what they're doing. So I feel that when gambling which it has becomes such a central part of the sports experience or risking changing heart the next generation learns to engage with the games that we love. So yeah it it's concerning to me um and I think I talked about this on a different episode but again these consequences can um include overwhelming financial stress damage to credit for life often bankruptcy job loss problems with relationships because of the ability to fess up to what's going on hiding debt from family and friends and um and really wrecking the fun of the game of watching the game in the end. So um and but the other problem is gambling addiction is also connected to serious mental health struggles including anxiety and depression and research has found a direct connection between severe gambling problems and not always severe I mean it's severe is in the mind of the beholder um gambling problems and self-harming thoughts of self-harm and attempts and successful attempts at self-harm so it's not just affecting the person gambling it's affecting family and friends and loved ones and um yeah it's just it's really serious and it it bothers me and I'm just gonna blab about it because it bothers me. But that having an executive accused of that investigated and it must be pretty serious evidence for them to have taken the action of of suspending him indefinitely he's been suspended indefinitely that that's a real big alarm and by the way this Ryan Gold I looked him up he's like in his 30s right not like a 55 60 year old man.

Right so this is affecting yeah his career I mean being that young like he could be tossing it away like and especially you get in a gig like that like that's pretty impressive that's pretty cool and just yeah piss it away like that yikes that's some serious stuff because gambling yeah I mean like there's a big addiction uh problem with it I think it seems like more and more so because of the way how we're you know incorporating gambling to so many p part parts of our entertainment it's it's sad on your right I mean it's it's good to it's good to talk about it.

It's good to think about it to you know if we know anybody or nobody who's young or like it's a big thing on college campuses now. All the guys all the people watching sports together and then doing a little bit of a you know gambling with it and then they you know we there's a bunch of stories of people leaving college because they're so embarrassed they've lost their whole future because they're they're and then if you then if you think about possibly borrowing money for more debts and you're borrowing money from unsavory businesses you could be really not in trouble just from self-harm but somebody could actually come and harm you so you could be bringing a lot of darkness into your into your life so um I really do respect um Tom Grassi for not showing any gambling commercials on his podcast ever. Yes he's he's another one who who draws the line there yeah so that's my glamo packer packer glamour that was like two that was my Ryan Gold was the one um the yellowest canary and then my little nice additional spiel.

Yeah all right yeah I mean call call it a soapbox call it whatever I think that was that was well said Don I think that's yeah it's important like raise awareness around how serious this is I appreciate that well yeah the consequences could be really it's not like oh you shouldn't gamble it's five dollars or twenty dollars or a hundred whatever it's like this could be your whole life you just could literally be injuring yourself or being injured or yeah your whole entire career or whatever.

Yeah I would be surprised honestly well okay so on to a lighter note shall I do my my last superlative per se okay so back in the fall uh there was sort of like what felt like was going to be the beginning of a series um a podcast series that's pretty excited about because it's about like moments important moments in Packers history and this was um Andrew Mertig was doing it kind of as a side project within Pack a Day it was kind of you know in the feed and he did one episode about the time that the Packers almost like uh Green Bay almost lost the Packers I think it was the early 2000s there was a vote it was close you know vote in the community about the funding you may recall um we talked about it on here because it was so good I had to shut it out but then there was never a follow-up and I was like man andrew murtig I want I want more of this stuff I want it every week I want it in my face and this week we got another one so it was it was fun because he's talking about what felt at the time like a very inconsequential game in like 2006 or something I can't remember the exact year I think it's 2006 where there's this play where Sam Congato like looked like he got tackled for for a safety in the end zone but then the ref called some some weird procedural you know thing so that it wasn't actually a safety and so Andrew talked about like sort of the sliding doors of if if it had been called a safety it probably would have led to the Packers losing which would have led to a better draft position which would would have given them the chance like you know draft these people instead of AJ Hawk who they got in that draft and kind of like the weird split that happens off just like this one little play and what was really kind of an inconsequential game so it was the Packers went like like four and 12 that season whereas if they gone if they lost the game they'd be three and thirteen. So we're talking about like their record was terrible that year anyhow what's the difference of the losing of the game well the the the weird ripple effect on their future and so he got into that um yeah it was it was so fascinating like you know it's crazy how one little thing one little moment one little play can can have not just an effect on the season but like going forward it was it was well done yeah yeah that's neat um I don't think the Packers would ever consider tanking a season for a better pick I know some teams yeah I heard somebody talking about some team I can't I'm not even even if I could remember I think I know the team should they just tank this year and you know it's like no you're a sportscaster and you're talking about this stop it that's not cool yeah no and how would the fans feel anyway yeah you just that's not sports that's not what you do it's not what you do what you know I think it's probably fair to say that the vast majority of people who get to the professional level you know in any sort of sport they're probably hardcore competitors and they're not gonna just be like oh yeah let's all get together and tank the season like I don't think that's gonna happen that they're still gonna fight even if their team isn't good isn't winning right yeah I don't think it's a thing it's not it's not it's not for the Green Bay that's for sure well many those are some nice superlatives I enjoyed doing that with you. Any final thoughts before we uh yeah well I mentioned I do have a another offseason moment of appreciation this week yeah and you know as a reminder I'm doing this because there are some content creators that are so consistent and you know bring us all so much joy on a regular basis and so we don't always stop to like say this week these people did a really good you know um episode because kind of like every week is a good episode you know um but there's a particularly good Wednesday pack day with Dusty Steve and Sarah this week that was really funny I had me laughing out loud really enjoyed it because like they they bring the you know the humor with like um making fun of each other but still also like the insight with the answering the questions that people send in it was a really fun episode you know even even for them so just a moment of appreciation for just Evely Steve Perhatch Sarah Kellher who by the way was also on a um podcast with Andy Herman this week very very good definitely would recommend checking it out um and you know when it comes down to it they they can claim a little a little bit of responsibility for this show happening because it was yeah the first time I was on a podcast you know and it gave me some confidence when you asked me like would I want to do a podcast I was like I think I could do that you know and I think if they hadn't had me on their show because the you know they're doing the um they're gonna bring a listener on right to be on the show as a guest and I was the first person they had for that so um yeah from my experience on there it gave me the confidence to do this show with you you know so they're they're a little this is this is partially their fault is what I'm saying. So um anyhow really I I love their stuff. You you know it's a good consistently good podcast when it always goes to the top of the podcast speed when it drops you know that they are definitely a priority listen for me.

So right for the good work guys we love you probably all time one top top three they were oh yeah you know yeah for sure still great I like that Maddie well Maddie I know you're going on vacation next week so we won't be here for a couple weeks um and when we come back there's gonna be I think preseason football ish or close to it I mean in training camp definitely and maybe it might be just before the first preseason family night family night is uh August uh seventh oh and then pre-season yeah so that's gonna be before we record again actually that's crazy right right so we'll be back on the Thursday after family night so the week before preseason because there's family night and then they have like a week off right don't they or do they go straight in no it's family night and then the first preseason game is the 14th I believe I think 14th 21st 28th and then they take a week off and then it's October then it's September September but yes sorry September I missed a month don't miss September some good games in September.
