Futures Trading involves risk of loss and is not suitable for everyone. Past profits are not necessarily indicative of future results/profits.

We react to a chaotic market day and connect the Fed, crude oil, and tech-driven stock volatility to what producers see in grain and livestock prices. We also lay out the “What’s Your Edge?” framework and explain why adapting to technology and strengthening people skills can help protect your farm or business from being left behind.

• Shoutouts from Ag PhD Field Day in South Dakota and what the crowd is really there to learn
• Fed keeps rates unchanged, bonds and interest rate signals, and why gold, silver, and crude matter
• Grain settlements with corn down and soybeans breaking the 12 handle, wheat holding firmer
• Cattle strength versus hog weakness, heat risk and death loss concerns
• “What’s your edge?” as a practical advantage, not a slogan
• Trading pits to electronic markets as a warning story about resisting change
• AI as a tool for organization, limits around humor and human nuance, and why people skills still win
• Rising cost of money and why producers must factor rates into every decision
If you believe in us, believe in what you’re doing, and believe in American agriculture, subscribe, join the team, and we’d love to have you.

Welcome From South Dakota

SPEAKER_00

How are we doing, everybody? Tom Grassoffee sitting in the big chair. Oh, I don't know if this is the big blue bodacious microphone, but it was a wild day in the markets. I'm here in beautiful South Dakota. Big shout out to the Hefty Seed family sitting, getting ready for AG PhD field day. It is Wednesday, July 29th. The markets were wild. The president was misbehaving. All that and more when we come right back. How are we doing, everybody? Tommy G coming to you July 29th, 2026. You're listening to Ag Squawk in the afternoons with your fill-in guest host, me G. Now, these are big shoes to fill, big shoes to fill. Before we start the show, I want to tell you, I've been getting your notes, I've been getting your messages. It's easy for you all to contact us. I'll even do a little pop-up here. How do you contact us? You go to the Ag Bull website, hit contact. I've heard some really positive things about Davis. No one says anything about me, but he never lets me host the afternoon show. I've heard some great things about Mr. Jed Sidwell in the morning. As you can see, Jed's a cattle guy. He's out in Colorado. He's in cattle country. He really likes to talk about the cattle and corn. He's a young broker. He's learning. I'm very impressed with what he's doing, but I'm extremely impressed and excited to be here in South Dakota at Ag PhD. The field day is tomorrow, chance of rain. It's hot out, supposed to be cloudy. I just talked to Brian Hefty before I went on here, and I said, How's it looking for weather? And Mario said, Good little cloudy. Cloudy's good. It'll bring the temps down. Expecting a record, record crowd here in South Dakota. 10,000, 11,000 people. Everything. I mean, everything is free. I had a chance last night to break bread with Mr. Zach Hefty himself, the young, fabulous media star. He's a media mogul. We went for a beautiful dinner. Speaking of famous people, you know who else was there? Mr. Rob Sharkey and his beautiful bride. So myself, Zach, and a few new friends and a couple of people from the uh hefty media staff, we went out and had fun. Uh, don't worry, we didn't stay out too late. But the markets, let's talk markets. Crazy, crazy day here. Uh, we were gonna start filming this before the markets closed. And my brother Joe and I just wanted to say, hey, you know, let's get these markets closed

Outside Markets Go Off The Rails

SPEAKER_00

so we can get the right prices to you. But before we start the show, of course, you know, if you want to get a hold of us, I do want to tell you about uh agbull.com. That is us. And of course, if you need to get a hold of us, you can go to 1-855-737 Farm. And uh, we really appreciate it. If you'd like to become a subscriber, Brother Joe, show them how they do that. Uh, we've had a lot of new subscribers, and I think the reason is I'll be honest with you, a lot of the great stuff we do is premium. I mean, you see Jed in the morning, you see Davis the afternoon, that's free, that'll always be free. But the real deep dives into things when you need a lot of time, that's the premium stuff. Now we're sending out morning emails, text all day. If news is breaking, we're sending it out. We'll text you at night. Sunday nights is probably our specialty in the sense that I work every Sunday. Because you know, Mr. Jim Weismeyer and I record that show, Weissmeyer's Perspectives. Jim's part of the AgBull team. He's full blown, just putting out a lot of content. If you ever missed a Mr. Jim content, just go to AgBull, look at the little tab, and you'll find uh prior stuff Mr. Jim did. But the world's changing. World's changing a lot. Let's look at the markets here a little bit. I want to go to the outside markets first. We have some breaking news. Brother Joe, pop it up. A little breaking news. We had a Fed meeting, our own Fed chair, Mr. Kevin Walsh. Kevin and the team here. Looks like feds keep rates unchanged. Nine to three, three to cent fave favor of a rate hike. Now, brother Joe, uh, why don't you pop in here? You don't need to put your picture in there, but just pop in here with sound if you can. Jojo, uh, you said bonds are down, and that means interest rates are going higher, correct?

SPEAKER_01

Correct. We just came off the low on the off the bond. We rallied about seven ticks off the low.

SPEAKER_00

And folks, if you don't know myself, my brother, you know, we've been down at the border trade for a while and involved in markets. I used to trade in the bond pit. Matter of fact, I started in the bond pit and then I went to the corn pit and I I I've been all over the place. We're going to talk about the floor here in a little bit when we get in the show. Let's go over the outside markets first. Extremely volatile day. If you turned on your TV or if you're maybe you're busy farming, you didn't see it, but at one point the Dow was down 900, it sense bounced. SP was down a lot. NASDAQ was down huge. A lot of the selling is coming from this tech sector. We to say we had a bubble is probably an understatement. And when bubbles burst, it can get quite ugly. Just upon recording this here at 130 today, SP's down 40, NASDAQ down 150. The Dow still down 850. That's interesting, Joe. Uh lots of lots of moves. We did see on the Fed meeting, brother Joe, a pop in gold, a pop in silver. Pretty wild to see silver with a five handle in front of it. 5825 on the uh SEP silver, August gold, which the contract's rolling, but uh 4,050 bucks for gold. Well, hey, we're out here at AG PhD field day talking about yellow gold. Let's get into the uh grains a little bit and look at those settlements. Markets are closed, and we have settlements for you. D scorn down nine and a half, 471 in that D snow beans down 28.5, 1191.

Corn And Soybeans Take A Hit

SPEAKER_00

We lost that 12 handle. You know, people were joking the other day, beans in the teens, and they meant 13. So we we're a lot further away from 13 than we were a week ago. Let's go over the wheats. Wheats fared a little better, SEP wheat down a few cents, 660. That's the board of trade. Casey wheat unchanged, 726, and of course, Minneapolis wheat, 705 plus two. Let's move over to the meats feeders, a real positive day. We did our morning conference call at Nasvic Trading. And if you're not getting that, you need to subscribe and join the premium. But every morning

Cattle Strength And Hog Weakness

SPEAKER_00

we send you out a perfectly boxed recording. We do a conference call at 745. Mr. Jed records that and then we email it and text it out to clients right away on that cattle number. But they're talking about death loss, and it's something I really wasn't thinking about till a few days ago when we started shooting temperatures of 105, 107, possibly some record temperatures of 110. And there's animals dying out there. So today feeders up 375, fat's up 200. Am I seeing this right, brother Joe? Did hogs have that bad of a day? Are hogs down 270? Yeah, absolutely, Tommy. Oh, speaking of hogs, what a great interview Davis did yesterday with Mr. Chad Layman from uh Eureka, Illinois, hog farmer, corn and bean farmer, sells all his corn to, you know, uses all his corn for the hogs, but interesting perspective on what it's like to be a hog farmer right now. Well, with that, Jojo, you think we should talk about what we're going to talk to the good folks here at Hefty Field Days about?

SPEAKER_01

Tommy, I I always want to know what you're going to talk about because you amaze you amaze everybody by just pulling stuff off the cuff, but you are prepared for this speaking engagement tomorrow.

SPEAKER_00

Well, we are. I think Tommy G goes off at 7.05. We'll see. We'll see. So, what we're going to talk about here, I want to I'll bring this in here. I want to talk about tomorrow with the folks in the crowd, and we're going to do it here on this show. As we're putting the show together, Mr. Davis left me notes and stuff. And, you know, I go off the cuff. And for those of you who've ever seen me speak or even know me, I'm so impressed with how Davis goes through the show and does the same thing every day. And then I could I could write something down or look at something, and I'd I'd it's like a recipe, you know, you could you could write it down, give it to five people, and five people are going to cook it a different way. But when when I give a speech or I talk to folks, I want to talk about something from experience, right? So tomorrow, what we're going to talk to the folks on the first opening speech is what's your edge? And I was thinking the last few days, Joe, when I drove to South Dakota, what was my edge? Like I when I was a kid in 1990,

What Your Edge Really Means

SPEAKER_00

I went to the Chicago Board of Trade on a high school field trip on my birthday, June 24th, 1993. I had a full seat at the Board of Trade. It's kind of a cool story. I guess I should be retired a few times over, but hell, if I was retired, who would do these videos with you, right? There'd be no Weiss Meyer's perspectives. There would be no ag squawk in the afternoon, there'd be no ag squawk in the morning. So I guess we're right where we should be. But with that, what's your edge? There used to be a floor, a trading pit. It was crazy. And I was asking a young associate today, Joe, at at work. They were helping me get my PowerPoint ready and they said, What's your topic going to be? I said, What's your edge? And I asked them, Do you know what the edge is? And they said, I don't think so. And what the edge is, is what's your edges code for advantage? But the reason we all used to go down to the board of trade and buy a membership or lease a membership was that we had an edge, we had an advantage. We're going to tie all that into this crowd, these people who showed up early. Why are you coming to see me at seven o'clock on Thursday? What's your edge? What's your advantage? What are you doing at your farm that no one else is doing? What can you do better? Now they think I'm a marketing guy, and I am a marketing guy. We are agbull trading and we can help people with marketing, but there's so much more that goes into agriculture than just good marketing. Sometimes you need some luck, you need some weather, you need a lot of things. But I want to go through how the edge changes and tie this a little bit into AI and then talk about thriving on chaos. So you can see here we have this PowerPoint. This is a picture of the weed options, and we have some old friends. You know who is in this picture, bro?

SPEAKER_01

Who's that?

SPEAKER_00

Old Tom Barry, right here. He's got his uh head down. T Barry in the weed option pit. He was a good broker. And this gentleman on the right, he's one of the guys we watch on Ag Yield. The guy, see the guy on the right looking back at us? He's one of the Ag Guild boys we see. And there's just some really cool people in this. This was the weed options, but thriving on chaos. For those of you listening to the podcast, make sure you go back and watch the video version of this. And that's what trading is. So, number one, what's your edge? That's why we went to the board of trade. Two, thriving on chaos. Whether you're a professional trader or you're a farmer, you're dealing with chaos. Look at this administration. Today, President Trump, it was all over the all over the news. He said, We're gonna bomb the heck out of Iran. But he didn't say heck, he even might have dropped the F bomb. I guess when you're president of the United States, you could swear it's it's sometimes frowned upon on radio. But hey, this is a podcast. We could say whatever we want, but I'll leave those kind words that Mr. President said you can go back and look at those. But yes, it is a chaotic world. We do have chaotic weather, and it's not easy farming, and it's not easy being a trader. But here's what happened to the pits. The pits started in the 1800s, and one day the pits died. Go to the next slide, and you'll see this is just a few weeks before the pits ended. And I actually know those guys in

When Technology Kills The Old Game

SPEAKER_00

those pictures, those are those are great dudes. And in the pits closed. Why did they close? Because technology and technology killed the trading floor. And my question, and this is my question to the group tomorrow: is technology going to help you in ag or is it gonna kill what we know as ag is today? I don't know, but I do know this, and this will be my point tomorrow. I saved you a trip from coming all the way to here, but please do come here. Oh, by the way, if you do make it to the show, send me a text, send me an email. You can get a hold of us if you call that number, 1855-737-Farm. That'll ring to my desk line, which will eventually ring to my cell phone, and that's the record line. Brother Joe will pick it up or myself. But if you're gonna make it here to South Dakota, I want to I want to meet you. And if you can't, if you can't make it, jump in our contact thing and say, hey, I listen to this show. I like what you guys are doing, and uh let's stay in touch, contact us over there. All right, back to the program. So technology killed the pits. What's it gonna do to ag? And and and that brings me to how I take what I did in my journey in 1990 at the Board of Trade to where we are today, 2026, here is what's your edge in farming? I just had the opportunity to walk through. I'm at the top floor of the Morton building here at Ag PhD, and they just had a briefing. Mr. Brian Hefty himself told all the vendors. He said, We're gonna have a great day tomorrow, rain or shine, we're gonna do well. There were 300 people in a meeting today on Wednesday, and they're all vendors. And Brian said, There are people coming from all over America and some from all over the world. These people are buyers, they purchase stuff. This is the the hefty field days, it's not a marketing meeting. Of course, I get the talk and we'll talk about markets a few minutes tomorrow, and we'll mention interest rates and we'll mention other things. This is a technology meeting. And for you farmers who had an edge or used to do well and you feel like you're slipping, don't end up like these guys here, back in this picture, where they stay in the game too long. Don't stay in the game too long where you lose your edge. And what happened, I think my brother will, you know, he could talk about this a little bit too, is that when we were in the pits, there were some people who didn't want the pits to die. There were some people who said they're gonna fight the pits to the end. And in the end, what killed the last pits that were open was that little nasty virus we had in 2020. We still had quite a bunch of pits open in Chicago, but in 2020, we all got sent home for a few weeks, and a few weeks turned into a few months, and a few months turned into a few years, and they closed them all down. So when the the Border Trade CME group sent everyone home for the virus, they never opened most of the pits because technology eclipsed it. That's actually how Agbull Media started. Agble Media started because I used to travel all over to speak, I used to travel all over to do TV hits, and now look at with a laptop, a camera, a headset, some high-speed internet, we're here coming to you in your home, in your car, wherever. Folks, my point for today and my point for tomorrow is don't fight technology. Now, what can you do? In my opinion, I think you got to incorporate a little bit of you got to incorporate a little bit of old school and new school. And what I mean by that is see if I have that. I might not have put that slide in there. Nope, I forgot that one. That's okay. What's your edge? The last slide was incorporate old school with new school. And what I mean by that, I had a nice conversation last night with uh Rob and Emily Sharkey. And I asked Emily, you you guys are

AI Helps But Humor Needs Humans

SPEAKER_00

speaking as much as any group, your Rob's on as many shows as any group. How much are you using AI and technology to help keep you organized? She said, a lot. And then Rob said something interesting. Anyone who knows Rob Sharkey knows he's extremely sarcastic. And I think sometimes when you listen to a show or watch him, you think it's like a skit or an act. It's not. He's naturally like that. It's really weird. He's just the most sarcastic person I've ever met. And what he said was funny about AI and technology, that he's tried to talk to Chad or Claude and kind of come up with like lines or scripts or funny jokes. AI doesn't understand humor, and AI doesn't necessarily understand people. So when I say combine old school with new school, work on your people skills. For you young people listening, work on your people skills. For you old people listening or older, like we're all getting, nobody's getting younger, work on your people skills. There's some things that I do think in my career that technology, if I wouldn't have pivoted, if I wouldn't have left those pits so early and started trading electronically, I would have been one of those last guys standing in the pits, begging the Board of Trade CME group not to close. The corn pit, I stood in the corn pit on the last ever day. I made one of the last ever trades in the corn pit. Not only does the market close at 115, but you have a modified from 115 to 120. And at 119 and 30 seconds, I was still trading corn in the pit just for fun. I just went down there because it was the last day. I wish I wouldn't have. It was such a sad, sad moment. But folks, don't stay into the end. If things are changing, you need to change with it. And if it's your farm or your business or anything involved, adapt to technology. Brother Joe, what do you think of all that? Because you were there, you watched my career from the start to the beginning. You watched my career as a commodity broker, you watch my career, and you've always been part of it here on the media side. What do what are we doing here? That's just a little different.

SPEAKER_01

Well, Tommy, the one thing you asked, what was your edge? You had great mentors. I did. Yeah, great teachings. You were advised to look into the electronic trading before anybody. You had you were testing the board of trades software.

SPEAKER_00

It's called Project A.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. It was the craziest time. And when you said you were going electronic fully, I'm like, wow.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I left way before the pits closed. I left in 1998, 99, the trading floor, to go electronic. And then you went with me to one of those firms. You know, big shout out to one of those mentors, a couple people, one of my pit mentors, Lance Murdoch. Folks, if you're out there watching or anything, send this to Lance. I haven't heard from him in a long time, but I do hope he's doing well. Brian Galber. Brian Galber was just so far ahead of the times. Anyone who's read any trading books or market wizards, Brian Gelber was a mentor to both my brother and I. And boy, was he ahead of the curve on the electronic trading. If you don't know what I'm talking about, just Google Galber Group. They have a phenomenal trading group and they have traders all over the country, all over the world. But I recently, bro, I caught a podcast with Brian Gelber. Uh, he doesn't do many interviews, and I just was searching his name, and there was a really cool podcast that Brian Gelber did. And he was talking about like what makes a good trader, what makes a good broker, what makes this, what makes that. And you'll hear those legendary traders talk about the edge, right? What do you what do you think is the American farmer's edge? I mean, is it is it technology? Is it you just can't go out and buy a brand new tractor and say, I got the edge, I have a new tractor. To me, it sounds like you got a bunch of debt.

SPEAKER_01

Well, to me, the farmer's edge now is using the knowledge from the past and incorporating modern just as you were talking about. You can't just go full-blown modern. The old timers knew exactly what they were doing. They they knew how to grow a crop with substandard everything. Now they've got the greatest seed, they've got the greatest fertilizers, their ground is great, and all they're fighting is weather most of the time.

SPEAKER_00

And geopolitics, of course.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. But the far that's where we that's where us with our knowledge of marketing, our m our knowledge of outside markets that the farmer usually isn't paying attention to, and nor should they. It's too much. That's where we come in handy is giving our knowledge to them and letting them make an honest decision with everything that's in front of them. So I think the edge they have is using the old and the new and incorporating the your Tommy, your service with uh the speakers that speak every day, the uh Jim Weissmeyers, the stuff Davis puts out every day, Jed puts out every day, Mike Sands puts out every day, all that information, Zachary Davis on believe up at 3-4 in the morning.

SPEAKER_00

Our weather guy, Mr. Craig Sands, yeah, the whole Nesvik team, and then how Nesvik. I don't know if people quite understand this, but Agble trading is a DBA of Nesvik. So the mothership's NASVIC, of course, then we clear those trades through plus 500. Let's give plus 500 a plug real quick, bro, while we're going through it. Oh, yeah, plus 500 right there, plus 500 T4. That's the software we're looking at. I literally have my iPhone right in front of me right now. I'm looking at that plus 500 software. We'll go back over the markets, give you a little market update because uh something big just happened here while we're doing that. But when we need audio alerts and when we need information, we use Trade the News, Agble Media, Agble Trading, Proud User, Trade the News, Trade the News is a sponsor. This show, of course, plus 500 is a sponsor of the show. They are the FCM I choose. I have several choices, and that's what's great about America. You have choices, and then I also use them for T4 software. Little breaking news, bro. Just uh I literally got my phone out, and SPs are now up four points. NASDAQ's up 80, gold and silver are flying, a lot of the markets are moving, but crude oil still up 520.

Fed Rates Oil And Rising Costs

SPEAKER_00

Big, big move here in the energies, and that's really going to have an effect. Why are we talking about crude oil? Because we had a Fed meeting today, and with that Fed meeting, they said interest rate. Rates, some people descended again, and they want to raise rates. And that's going to be something that how I finish my speech tomorrow. So everyone's out here talking about yield, everyone's out here talking about being better at everything. There's people who don't realize how much the rate of money has changed. And of course, I'll end my speech with the rate of money. But as anyone who knows who's watching this, listening, this, anyone who's responsible and not, you know, is actually writing bills, the price of everything's gone up tremendously, tremendously. There's really nothing that's discounted or cheap or on sale. And with that, but we do have something on sale. You want to hear something cool, Joe? All the folks who come to Ag PhD, I got a I got a card for them. And I don't want to say what I'm giving them, but I have a subscribe card. And if people show up to my meeting tomorrow, I'm giving them a pretty nice little discount. I don't want to say because I don't want people to not show and say, hey, I want the discount. But for a one-year subscription, it's normally $250. We're gonna give people a heck of a deal because they got up early just to see me. And that that really from the bottom of my heart means a lot. They're also coming here to learn, and that's what we're trying to do here with the show. Whether it be axquack in the morning, ax squat in the afternoon, or the premium stuff, that's what we're trying to learn. Anything else we didn't cover, bro? We had a Fed meeting, we had oil spike, we had President Trump throw a fit. We had a horrible date in soybeans. Corn was down, wheat held in there, cattle were up. There's some death loss. If you know anything about what's going on out here in the cattle industry, let us know. What are you seeing on your side? Mexican border is going to reopen. Secretary of Aggs Rollins is traveling to Arizona, I believe, today, and uh look for some headlines with that coming out a little bit uh later. Jojo, before we finish the show, and yeah, we're doing all right, 24 minutes, just you and I.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, let's let's pull up some fun facts. Yeah, here we go.

SPEAKER_00

All right, ready? Today is National Chicken Wing Day. Now, Davis gave us these, so he's such a good guy. He made me a word

Chicken Wing Day And IT Lessons

SPEAKER_00

doc and everything. Oh, you should have seen the heck of a time I had getting the printer working at the hotel. But yes, today is National Chicken Day, and I think I'll have a few after the show. You know whose birthday it is? Rush Frontman, Getty Lee's birthday. Bro, Rush was in Chicago for four days. I didn't go. What was I thinking? What was I thinking?

SPEAKER_01

I didn't make it either, Tommy.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but they're traveling around. How about that new drummer? What's her name? Annika? Good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She's she's a badass. Yeah. If you don't know, I'm talking about Google Rush's new drummer, Annika. Rush only am I seeing stuff, bro? Do they only have three people in the band? That is correct. They've always been a three-piece. Yeah, what was their drummer who died? Who could be the uh who Neil Peart? He's in the if you ask people who's the best drummer in the world, most time his name comes up. Yes, and think of it, they replaced her with a really cool girl who's awesome. I think I will travel somewhere in America to go see him. We have another birthday for you uh country folks here. Martina McBride's birthday, American singer and songwriter Mati Martina McBride. Also on July 29th, 2015, Windows 10 was released. Now, folks, if you know anything about computers or IT, if it's not working, have you tried restarting it? And my I gotta tell you guys a story. Joe and I were up in Canada, and we have family up in Canada. And this family, they're in the IT business, like they work at the the this is so funny. I can't believe I'm gonna tell this story. They they work at the utility company that provides old school dial tone, DSL, cable internet, fiber net, the whole deal. But anyway, this young man was working on the help desk, and he was helping an older gentleman do something on his computer, and he said to the older gentleman, Can you open your window? And he said, Yeah, hold on, let me come right back. He hears him get up, walk over, open a window, and he says, Okay, I opened my window. You can't make this shit up. Remember when he told us that story, bro? Yes, the guy literally he said, Open a window, and he opened a window. So uh sometimes communication is tough, sometimes change is tough, technology is tough. The theme of today's show was what's your edge? In my trading career, I've had tremendous advantages, and then I've lost them. Now I have to reinvent myself. And I went

How To Reach Us And Subscribe

SPEAKER_00

from being a successful broker to a successful, a successful trader to a successful broker to now what I hope to be is a successful media company. But we can't do that without your help, without you sending this video to people, calling us, texting us, telling us what you want to see. And with that, anything else you want to talk about, bro?

SPEAKER_01

No, I do I do want to bring that up too, bro. That is a very good point. We need what the consumer wants to see. Do they want you know, more cattle? Do they want more farmer? Do they want more agronomist? What is their interest? And so we could bring it to them and we enjoy it all.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we do. And how are we gonna bring it to them? We're gonna bring it to them right there. Ag squawk recorded early in the morning. We usually get that show out around 7 8, a little later, actually. I got to readjust these times. We're getting Ag Squawk out around 7:30, 8 o'clock, Ag Squawk PM around 3:30, 4 o'clock.
