There is a difference between power and authority, for authority is the permission to exercise the power that has been given. Though earthly rulers may operate within a certain jurisdiction, their authority is limited and subject to a higher throne. And while man may claim authority, all power ultimately rests in Jesus, and every jurisdiction is under His rule.
