The crowd sees the run. We live everything wrapped around it: the midnight departures, the feed stops, the horse-first priorities, and the mental snap from exhausted to locked in when it’s finally time to compete. From Centralia to Port Angeles to the next town, we talk through what a real rodeo weekend looks like when you’re hauling, swapping slack, sleeping in fragments, and still expected to perform like nothing hurts. If you’ve ever wondered how rodeo athletes survive the travel grind, this one puts you in the passenger seat.

We also get into the part people avoid saying out loud: rodeo finances can feel like gambling on yourself. Entry fees, fuel, repairs, and those weekends where you go home broke. We break down how competitors think about payouts, why guaranteed money from pickup work is hard to turn down, and what it means to choose between chasing competition and staying financially stable. Along the way, we talk steer wrestling, team roping, the culture behind the chutes, and why the best talent really does look like “D1 athletes” when you watch them up close.

Then the conversation turns raw and personal. I share what cancer remission, grief, and burnout taught me about fake support, real friendship, and putting family first. We talk faith without the performative stuff: showing up, sitting in silence, and the emotions that surface when you’re trying to rebuild yourself with discipline, training, and honesty.

If you got something from this, subscribe, share it with a friend who respects the grind, and leave a review so more people can find these stories. What part of the road life would break you first: sleep, money, or mindset?

SPEAKER_03

How's it going, Wiley Coyote?

SPEAKER_01

It's going good, buddy. How about you?

SPEAKER_03

Doing alright, man. Doing alright. Feels good to be here. Feels good to be alive. Feels good to, you know, do this remotely. Who would have thought, man? I I've I've done a couple remote. It takes a lot of time, a lot of miles. You know, a lot of miles. And you got me out. You got me out, so here I am. I'm glad. Zilla. Yes, sir. Zilla. God, Zilla. What do they what do they call you in the rodeo scene nearby?

SPEAKER_00

Wiley Jack.

SPEAKER_03

No, no, no, no. No, not that. Not not so much that, man. What is it? They something Zilla. Thriller and Zilla.

SPEAKER_01

Gosh dang it. What's his name? The rodeo announcer. Yep, Thriller from Zilla. Yeah, Thriller from Zilla. Yeah, I'll think of his name in a minute. Yep.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the big announcer.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. He was at Grandview, and he's probably gonna listen to this and kill me because I can't think of his name right now. Is he gonna listen to you? Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Because he's a family friend.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Notice you got a lot of family friends, man. Notice that. It's crazy. But we'll get there. So last time you were on, man, I can't believe it's almost been three years. Can't believe I've almost almost done this for five, but it's a thought for eight, you know, and I finally capitalized three years later, you know. So yeah, five years, man. All right, so this is 264. Would have been 265, but I had to delete one. There's only out of 263 episodes published, I had to delete two. One because ag teacher didn't want her to say this the things she did, which I didn't see anything wrong because we did a part two. I don't know if you listened to that. Did you listen to that one?

SPEAKER_01

Uh I was gonna text you about it and I was gonna listen to it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. Well, you didn't you didn't miss anything. Uh, ag teacher told mom. Mom said, hey, get them delete it. She told me. I was like, click. I'm not gonna mess around with that, you know. No, I don't believe it. I was just thankful that you know, we got an episode in and we were just talking about marshmallows and feeding pigs and stuff like that, and like, all right, delete. Hey, I you know, the the girl, she's quite the competitor when it comes to feeding the pigs and stuff like that. And where were they out of Oklahoma? Oklahoma, yeah, yeah. And the one thing I didn't want to do is just ruin something, you know. And so she said, Hey, need your help. All right, click. Yeah, but then another one I just deleted because I didn't want to destroy his brand. Still haven't talked about it, but tuckness finally it's out, it's out, cat's out of the bag, dude. Dusty tuckness in my early early years. I was like, not gonna destroy your brand. You know, so did that. So we'll get there later. Not that, but just being true to self. So August 27th, 2023, episode 188. That was a long time ago. It's been a long time, and man, it's been slow and progressing, you know. The the episodes, you know, life happens. Oh, yeah. Life happens. Shoot, hanging out with you happens. Time of my life, you know, just another thing, you know, to just to say, you know, you live the rock star lifestyle, dude. I wouldn't say that. Yeah, dude. I don't know, man. I don't know how you do it. I don't know how you do it, but you know, the more I get into this game, you know, the the the miles and mountains and then the rodeo, you guys have the same kind of lifestyles as we do. You guys live the same way we do. The only difference, the only difference, man, is you got you guys got livestock, man. You guys got horses, you guys got everything to worry about. You can't just worry about yourself and food. You got to worry about food for the horses first and then yourself. You guys put the horses first, and that's one thing I learned. Like, I knew I knew you guys did, and you know, you can say all you want, you know, with the whole PETA thing. You guys treat the horses like shit. You guys treat your horses, you the livestock, like they're people, man. Like they are, yeah. It's crazy.

SPEAKER_00

You've been around mine, that's why I wanted you to come.

SPEAKER_01

Like, I wanted you to see firsthand everything that goes into it, even the small details. But yeah, they're yeah, they're the horse is probably the biggest thing about rodeo. It's it's the 80% that nobody really talks about.

SPEAKER_03

And and you know, it's it's it's funny because you know, we always talk about the athlete, the person, but you you know, you when you hear the announcers, when you you get more involved in in in the game, you you start understanding the announcers call the bull, call the horse, call the animals athletes itself. That's wild. They are it's wild. So I yeah, they are, they are, and that's one thing I just enjoyed to understand and be there, you know, of just the presence of excellence, the the animals, man. They're just brute, man. You know, it's and then they have a mind of its uh of their own. That was fun to watch, you know. That was fun to watch that you're you know, your your horse kicking at you, you know, kicking rocks, and you're kicking rocks back, and you guys are going back and forth, and you know, they'll tell you to F off, you tell them to F off, you know, but they they win. So, man, it's it feels good to have you on, man. I appreciate you, dude.

SPEAKER_01

I appreciate you coming out, buddy.

SPEAKER_03

Appreciate you, man.

SPEAKER_01

How many times have we we said we were gonna do this? What at least five times? Yeah. Something would come up.

SPEAKER_03

Something always comes up, and then today you're like, hey, still on. I'm like, dude, I'm 17 minutes out. I I had to tell the wife, I was like, hey, I'm going. She's like, where are you going? Oh, it's Friday. Well, gotta see a podcast.

SPEAKER_01

You can throw me out of the window. Tell you coming to hang out with me.

SPEAKER_03

No, she knows, man. She knows, she knows. She knows Zilla means wily coyote, man. Wily coyote. You lived up to that name, man. You know that? You do.

SPEAKER_01

I think the cartoons got me beat.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Dude, like the rock star status, dude. The hours you put in, the the the hours you put in and everything else, man. It's it's it's true to form. It's unmatched. I I just the amount of time that I spent with you and understanding like that lifestyle and how you guys grind. Dude, I I couldn't hang. I couldn't hang. That one video you sent, you caught me. You caught me lagging when we were going through Rainier because you were gonna have us get great and and Rainier like off the beaten path, and then I'm like almost drooling with my mouth out, you know, just dude. I was out of it. I've never slept in a car like that in my life until that's why I wanted you to come though.

SPEAKER_01

So like I'm glad if we're gonna go down this route talking about the trip. Okay, for first, don't let me lose that thought about you falling asleep. But your first, your first reaction, like, okay, what was going through your head before you came? Like before you came with me and Caden and you met up. I know like you came to Cleellum, but that you know, I was picking up and I kind of went to Longview and Long Beach by myself. Yeah. What was your first thought when you came with us going to Centralia? When when you jumped in with me and Caden, your what was it, what was your first thought going into it?

SPEAKER_03

And then I want to hear like first thought was like, let's go, but I I I was like, I'm keeping an open mind. Okay, I keep it an open mind because I I know the hours that you guys put in, but I didn't think it was that many hours. No, I'm I'm I'm not joking, man. Like, I did not think it was that many hours. I mean, it's on the go, go, go, go. I I know you got a sleeper, but yeah, that that's not even enough sleep.

SPEAKER_01

No, I I I was thinking about it the other day because I knew we were probably gonna talk about this, but we ended up It's a Pepsi, guys.

SPEAKER_03

It's a Pepsi.

SPEAKER_01

We were, yeah, it's a dia Pepsi. Anybody listening should know this is all I drink. But we got we got to Centralia, did that deal, then we went to Port Angeles, and I think we got in, what was it, like four o'clock, four or six o'clock perf something like that. We got there then. I had to trade with somebody to because I I think I had Slack or Caden had Slack. Anyways, we ended up getting done with Slack at 10:30, 10:30 p.m. And then we ended up leaving at 11 30 p.m. And then yeah, we drove from Port Angeles, Washington, made it back to Zilla at 5 30 in the morning. We pulled into my brother-in-law's feedlot. Yeah. Yeah. And then I went to the National Forest. Yeah, forgot about that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. Oh man, yeah, and and you know, the Port Angeles, man, I think that was my favorite wand. That was that was my favorite wand.

SPEAKER_01

It was pretty cool. That was my first time being there, too.

eleted Episodes And Protecting People

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was nice, it was beautiful, man. And and the the way you you, you know, I don't know how you did it, but you know, you drove, then we, you know, you slept a I think a cat nap, then we went to the the ocean. That was wild, never been that far north of the ocean, you know. And yeah, it was just one it was an experience, and it was pretty cool. Like, I couldn't live up there. I couldn't live up there, man. There's hardly anything there. And the beer is not that great. But but the rodeo, man, they know how to rodeo in the rain.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, I'm still upset I didn't get to bulldog a steer in my rain jacket and my uh sombrero I bought at Walmart.

SPEAKER_03

That was fun. That was that was fun. You guys, yeah, you guys got a kick out of it. But you know, you guys, yeah, you guys have your life, you you live it, the lifestyle, man, just on the road is it's it's unbelievable, man. It's crazy. It's it's it's crazy. There, there's not there's not I think crazy is the word because dude, you guys are just on the go.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

In a nonsense way, but yeah, dude, I would say it's nonsense. Out of out a guy looking in or from out looking in, dude, it it's nonsense, man. It's nonsense. You guys bring it, you guys bring it.

SPEAKER_01

Well how you have to like it. Truthfully for you to understand. I mean, you got to see me at my lowest when the last two rodeos, but we went from Centralia to Port Angeles to Hepner to Goldendale, but you saw how I mean, I hope like you saw at Centralia, okay. I laid a steer down, I I got like last hole or something like that. And then we went to Port Angeles, we're there all night, right? And you saw how we trade up with somebody. We ended up getting in the perf, and then I had to haze the steer for Zane, then haze the steer for Caden. We ended up getting out of there, and then we drive all night, pretty much, to my to my place, and then we crash here, shower, and then we go all the way to Hepner, and then Well, I guess I lost my train of thought there. I I laid a steer down in Port Angeles too, like pulled lass hole or something like that, and we were waiting around. Then we went to my place to Heppner, and then I had a shitty run, and then one spot out of the money, and then we go to Goldendale, and then I get run over by a steer. Or no, I get run over by my haze horse, Zane Taylor. Thanks for that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But but you saw how it can go from like good, oh you know, okay, you pulled a check to okay, one spot out of the money, and then just you know, you're you're done like that. Yeah, yeah, and then on to the next one.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and it's just like you guys, you guys don't give up, you know. It's like almost like our DNFs are did not finish, you know, the race, and we're on to the next one. But our next one is probably weeks, months away, you know. You guys, next day, you guys are in one town one minute, and then like you ride, pack up. I mean, you guys just don't pack yourselves, you have to get the horses, got the feed and everything else, you know. It it and you're in the town a couple hours later, you know, and Port Angeles is not just a hop skipping one.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, yeah, they changed the schedule this year to where I think you go to go to U Claude, then we'll go to Port Angeles. So luckily they're both on the west side, but yeah, yeah. That was our first and last time going from Port Angeles to Hepner.

SPEAKER_03

All right, yeah, man. But you know, just that alone, that one, that trip, just that one to the next, it was out of this world, man. I I was I was tired. I was tired and couldn't. I thought I could hang, man. I mean, yeah, I was having a couple beers here and there, enjoying, you know, the local brews and clear them and everything. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I think you kept me and Caden fed a lot more than we probably fed ourselves.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I tried. I tried. That's the least I can do. You hey, I can't believe I know there's an age gap, but I couldn't believe you guys wanted to hang out with this old guy or have this old guy hang out with you guys.

SPEAKER_01

I told you you were coming. Whether if I had to come pick you up or not, you were coming.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, whose idea was that? Yours, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'll take credit.

SPEAKER_03

Good times. I know that was a couple months ago, a few months ago, you know, well, half a year ago. Dang! You get you're getting old, man. You're getting old, getting old. But no, it was it was good times, man. A lot, a lot of a lot of memories and everything else, you know, and a lot of hopefully some new ones coming up. Probably meet you on three of those dates.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, yeah, you're coming with me.

SPEAKER_03

I want to go to John Day. I want to reach out to John Day and uh see if I can get media pass there and get get a couple guys, you know, hang out with you a lot, and if you let me and hang out with your horses and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_01

You get you get rid of a horse? I I did. I sold the I sold the buckskin that was always pawing up the dirt, and I was giving a hard time. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so the one that was the one that was talking shit. Yeah, yeah. Uh okay. We're all right. To another athlete.

SPEAKER_01

Uh, I think an older gentleman that ropes in Nevada.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, nice. All right.

unknown

Dang.

SPEAKER_03

That yeah, that one. That was that one that was staring at me all the time. Oh, yeah. Checking me out. Okay. Like, who are you? You stranger dangerous, stranger danger. So yeah, the reinier. Let's let's talk about the back road of the reinier, man. Because, dude, I thought I was, I was, I was hanging, I was hanging, and you were putting on some music, and I'm like, this is my vibe, and all of a sudden, beam. And dude, I just wake up and like, whoa, where am I? Like, where are we?

SPEAKER_01

I I knew I knew I wasn't supposed to go straight. I knew I was supposed to do it, right? But like I said, it was you know, 12, 12 o'clock in the morning. No, it was later than that. It was at least one or two o'clock in the morning when we were going through the national forest, and even Zayn behind me was like texted me, like, where the hell are we going? Like, is do you really live here?

unknown

Keep going.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you go, okay. So then we ended up what making into Packwood at 3:30, something like that. But yeah, I don't. If you're going through to Port Angeles or Longview, don't go through the national forest, just don't trust Siri. That's all I can say. But it was Siri? Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

It took me down that road.

SPEAKER_03

I know I'm it was the fastest route, correct?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, but if she doesn't know you have a horse trailer on, load it down. Yeah, dude.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, shout out to Zane too. For he, because you know, he was just like, what the heck? What the heck? What are we doing? And we all came out like, bro, we're gonna get graped. Yeah, graped, graped, guys, not the R word, but you know what rhymes with grape.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we survived.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, no, man, no, but uh the Port Angeles part and the Hepner, man, it was just night and day difference, you know, raining and crappy weather.

SPEAKER_01

It was beautiful in Central, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, beautiful. Yep, yep. And the East Coast a little bit more. Goldendale. That's that's that's huge. I didn't think it was that big.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, they they get a pretty good turnout there. I mean, a couple years ago when I picked up, I mean, I think they had like three sections of Saddle Bronck riding, they and they're starting to get more money out of it it's it's a good deal they got going on there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a good, the really good ammy rodeo.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so let me ask you this, man. With all this time that you guys spend on the road, it kind of boils down to money, correct?

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But not everyone wins money, dude. There are some times that you go broke.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But what keeps you going? Like what keeps you guys like going from broke to broke to broker, you know? Is it the thrill? Is it the thrill or is it that that one, you know, it's almost like gang basically it's gambling, dude.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, uh, it is. I mean, you just gotta on yourself. Yeah, it I would say for me, like, yeah, it's the thrill. It's it's the doing it, and like right there, example. I mean, driving from 10 10 o'clock at night till 5 30 in the morning just to go to the next one, but then like once you win that rodeo or do good, like it's that accomplishment. That that I I love that feeling. And yeah, uh that I I'd say that's what it is right there. I mean, you I mean you you were right there with us. You you know that long dread just trying to get to the next one, and then you get there, then it's game mode. Yeah, but then it's also you can get in a you can get in a slump, not know you know if you should if you're gonna throw the towel in pretty early or if you're gonna keep going.

SPEAKER_03

But you guys keep going, man. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You just gotta like strategize, play your cards right, know what rodeos have the better payouts. Yep. And then versus this one.

SPEAKER_03

You get fourth or fifth, you're still getting something. Yep, yep. Not much, but I mean, but still it it it helps pay the bill, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yep, exactly. And that's all I mean, last year, up until I mean four months ago, that that was my job, and and it kept me afloat, still going down the road. Between, I mean, jackpot roping, picking up, ammirodium, pro rodeum. That's it did pay the bills.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, okay. The the number one question I had, and we don't have to talk about it, is like, dude, when when are you gonna go full time? And you know what I mean.

odeo Travel Reality And Horse Care

SPEAKER_01

Well, I mean, I gotta keep I gotta have the finances for it. I gotta stay financially stable. But we're we're getting there. You know, I I had to unfortunately I had to buy my card this year, and it sucks because that it puts me in rookie effect, and I'm not going as hard as I'd like, but um I'm gonna try to get on the California run and see where it goes from there. But as of right now, maybe.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I uh well, you know, you're you're hopped up on Diet Pepsi and Twisted T, you know, and uh you know, mom mom keeps you afloat on that.

SPEAKER_01

She's also my number one supporter and she keeps telling me to go. That's crazy. But I mean, you saw my July schedule. Like I'm I'm gone. Yeah, I think I maybe come home like Monday through Tuesday, and then I'm back on the road again. Yeah. I mean, that whole that whole month I'm pretty sure.

SPEAKER_03

But are you home though? I like I don't I don't think you I don't think you uh Friday through Sunday, then I'm back up. But are you home?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm home.

SPEAKER_03

You put the books down, you say I'm spending time with mom. Yep. Have a couple twisted teas with her.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. Hold down, hold down the fort here until the next adventure.

SPEAKER_03

Right. No, it feels good, man. It feels good to know that you know you're a grown man still, you know, loving mom and everything else. Wish I had a mom like that. You know what I mean? For real, dude. I'm like, what? Yeah, she's calling you. Hey, you need some food? I'll send you what I'm like, dang, all right, all right. My pizza wasn't good enough. But no, good times, man. Good times. And I'm thankful for that run. And uh yeah, definitely want some more. I think uh if you go to Port Angel Angeles, I'll I'll end up going if you will take me. Oh yeah, you're coming with us.

SPEAKER_01

There's a couple more that weekend, too.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, all right. Well, that weekend I'll make sure it's clear. I got a few concerts, man. Got a oh yeah, can't miss those. Can't yeah, I can't, dude, because man, yeah, yeah, just went a little nuts because I'm just trying to be true, you know. And so uh, you know, I talk to you like from here to there, every every night, you know. I I talk to you more than I talk to anybody, like you've like seriously. I know you would say we don't talk that much. I mean, but we we talk through reels, but then we reels is Instagram reels, but we also you know text and you check in, and I appreciate that, man, because you know you can get stuck in a rut, you know. Oh yeah, you know, I feel like when you're gambling on yourself, you get stuck in a rut, and I was building you up, and hopefully you felt that, you know, and uh yeah, and I I know I'm I can be in a rut, and that's why I thank you, and I appreciate you checking in and not always talking podcasts, but here we are, you know, and uh but no, you talk about life, and you know, you you you're the only one that says, you know, if you need to talk, I'm here. So I had to make it a remote episode, man, just because of appreciation, you know. And nah, man, you know, with with with everything going on, you know, you doing your thing. I I I appreciate what you do, you know, and looking out for me and and my fam. And you know, I hope you feel the other you know, the same way when meet when I when I check in and interested in the the rodeo and you know, trying to uplift you to make that run and you know when you're down on yourself, I try to say, nah, dude, let's go, you know?

SPEAKER_01

Well, yeah, I mean, you've seen I mean, like I said, you've you've seen what it's like, but you also see how how I get I mean, I'll Yeah. I get quiet and down amongst myself. That's yeah that's the competitive nature of it. Yeah, yeah. And that's how competitive I am. I I hate I hate losing more than I love winning.

SPEAKER_03

I hear you. So I'm gonna say something. When I said about you getting down and I asked you what when is it time? When is it time for you to figure out what you want to do?

SPEAKER_00

Still thinking man.

SPEAKER_03

You know what I'm talking about. Yeah I know you're talking about I totally and and I'm just saying because I'm gonna tell you this and I'm not I'm not dogging you. I'm not dogging you dude because I love you to death and I see I see I see the difference.

SPEAKER_01

When you do both you're a different breed dude you're you're a different breed and well I get near you like I I I I'll mess with you know I'll they'll talk to you and everything else but dude you this it's professionalism you got it dude hands down when you do both it's that and it's just like he's in the zone don't even go near him hey hey you know I'm like horses don't don't F with him don't F with them you've been hanging out with my mom too much she probably told you that huh what no I haven't I haven't talked to your mom but you know I mean I'm almost you know mom mom's a little older than me I think you know but yeah it it doesn't she she wants me well I shouldn't say that she wants me to do what makes me happy and what I love and she supports me no but you're you're not the second person to say like I need to choose either you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that dude you yeah it it needs to come like you either do it or you don't and continue to do both and as a right yeah as right now like it it's more leaning towards me competing more than I am picking up but well I mean when they offer me the rodeos though I can't say no guaranteed money.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah yeah exactly it's guaranteed money and I get it and they I've I mean I've only had more opportunities and I've been fortunate and blessed for that like Ellensburg this year and at the extreme Bronx but and a couple other pros so I don't really want to turn those down because I mean like I told you it's if I give them up somebody else is going to take it exactly and that's why I'm I'm a little vague but I'm a little vague on it you know but you know people who know you people who know you know dude when you do both you're a different dog not in a bad way you're in the zone dude like I I don't know if you know bro you get in the zone I I've seen a lot of people my day running mountains doing all this stuff being in the zone you're in the zone dude and there's nothing get out of getting in the way for real it's it's great to see but I also feel like there's something like you're you're trying to catch something a little more you know you're trying to catch a little more and I and I feel like if you stick to one and the roping I think it'll be it'll be good. Those boys bro they're bad hey they are and they just got uh they just got their pro permits and they're they're taking off like I told you they would yeah you know it's it's it's amazing now you know like how you you're in high school right let's just put this in perspective you're in high school you get you know JUCO athlete compared to D2 D D1 oh yeah correct correct though those boys that's D1 material but bro D1 they compete too they they compete D1 and bro they're a straight up professional they're really talented yeah it's it's amazing man it's it's amazing to see like things that you don't see on the Cowboy channel you know you know or on TV you see it in real life and you're like dude these these guys like the athletes alone just you're all D1 you know what I mean but there's there's some that you know struggle just like all athletes too you know you know and not with the horse or not with an animal and for those that are wondering we're talking about the McFarland brothers they're stupidly athletic those boys are bad I I've I can't say also like their dad was a college national champion Saddlebronk rider and I think he won the circuit I don't know if it was the wilderness or the Columbia River like a a dozen times something something like that.

hat Port Angeles Run And No Sleep

SPEAKER_01

But anyways I don't think I've ever seen guys that can ride bulls ride saddlebron and rope as good as them and I mean like stupidly consistent and and good at all three that's that's really impressive. Yeah yeah and and and you're getting more into roping right yeah I've always I mean I I've always roped since I mean a little I I took roping serious like junior year of high school but it was more of like okay if steer wrestling didn't go good like team rope it it helped me become a better steer wrestler ride my horse and then it kind of took off from there but yeah like jackpot roping especially yeah and then like well this past year was the first year I did well I did both events but I like rodeoed turned around sure but uh this past year was the first year like I went steer wrestling and team roping but actually like Ammy did and pro rodeoed team rope so outside looking in me being a buddy me being not your number one fan because mom truly number one right you were you showed me more videos of you roping than anything.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah why is that we had a good year roping good year roping but why is that though like why well there's a lot more roping jackpots and opportunities to go rope than there is bulldogging just especially in the northwest is that but true you're also like happy happy when I'm roping yeah oh yeah yeah it's different I'm not stressing I'm roping all right so question when you were in high school football right yeah were you stressing did you stress no that that's that's different though because you got I mean your brothers out there and you're kind of okay but everybody's a brother there though man I see I see the love in everybody everybody is rooting on everyone you know rooting everybody on yeah you got your people you know you're like man I hope you just eat shit you know oh see that team rope and that that's that side of it bulldog and a little different yeah yeah but man it it's it's it's good to see you guys let's go let's go you know oh yeah you guys all have your own sounds and yeah it's it's it's pretty cool man something that they don't show on TV man that it's it's great so I yeah I know I'm putting a lot of you know TV and this but yeah it was it's eye-opening experience so like when I go to games baseball football I'm the guy that doesn't leave sight of the field like I'll I'll pee before the game and I pee after I don't go halftime I don't like the people right so like I do that in rodeo right when when I go to Ben Franklin I go to the other ones I I don't get up I just watch it but to be behind the chutes be where I was and experience it dude it was it's out of this world experience man it's just something that I cannot describe and something that I just enjoyed I just took it in yeah I was I was perceived as the outsider you know with my twisted neck shoes and you know whatever but you know what I mean it's just like it's it I I I saw I took it in and I man I loved every minute of it was like a high dude not on horse shit but it was a high dude it was just like this is the stuff I I I can I I I can get into this is the stuff that I would I would do every year until the day I die just to to bring experience to know to just like share the experience that dude there's a life you know oh yeah behind the shoots out in the chutes it's just yeah it's it's an experience I I never thought I'd experience in my life something you you have to experience yeah yeah yeah and the brotherhood the sisterhood I mean the dude the sisters man I'm just telling you they're badass dude yeah a lot of them girls can yeah rope some twine right and run I don't know how dude their core core is a lot better than mine but if I don't know how they do it I don't know on a barrel. I can't rope a calf worth of shit anyhow but the barrel man yeah but no it was it was a good experience man and I appreciate you taking time showing this old fogie you know and we're just getting started buddy yeah yeah yeah man so man you not to cut you off I just remembered his name thriller from Zilla Scott Allen Scott Allen all right so don't hey Scott Allen if you're listening I was like S S A Scott Scott Allen Scott Allen sorry Scott get on him but hey if you need a buddy in the the announcer booth to help you out every now and then yeah right yeah right shoot for the stars nah he's he's a good guy I've I've I've seen him announce a few times he's yeah he's good probably one of the best in the Pacific Northwest in my opinion I I really like yeah yeah him and Jip Bob I like them both from Klamath right yeah he is I believe so yeah small world I graduated college in Klamath so really yeah yeah yeah yeah crazy speaking of college last time you were here or you went to my house you were in college and you're like dude I hate college but I'm doing it so you graduated right yes sir I did and how many years college rodeo four years on my eligibility I I wish they'd have given me the COVID year but they didn't or else I I probably would have oh I would have took my covet year how how many certs did you get how I mean oh you got a lot I got at least four yeah four yep and and uh a degree in what business management horseshoeing and then a couple other ones for welding boys GPA I finished my senior year with a 3.2 and it's needed too believe it or not let's go for for for a boy from Zilla who didn't like school didn't like college even said it in the college what's that who had no plan of going to college until like May of my senior year hated every bit of it and then dude that's awesome man. Well congrats man since it's been thank you thank you almost three years.

SPEAKER_01

Time flies when you're having fun and it's it's it's crazy thinking about it now like you you don't think of it obviously I mean I can remember the first day I went into my uh my apartment and like wow okay you know tomorrow I start college and this whole crazy life now I mean snap of the fingers I remember running my last steer at the yeah at the dome in Casper Wyoming and I just remember like like running my steer and then going talking to my coach and he goes that's that's a way to end it right there and it's like wow it's it's over yeah man I I I need to I need to go down there.

oney Strategy And Betting On Yourself

SPEAKER_03

I went down there for a concert you know and in in you know Ontario well right Nampa you know we passed by and everything else because it's right there right Ontario so you know taking my daughters to go see Red Clay Strays and everything else in in Nampa and I'm like oh this is where Wiley went to school all bad badass you know and yeah you should have came to a I know you had other stuff going on you need to you should have came to one of the practices but you need you need to go to the I need to I need to but yeah I was just like I need I need to stop by there I need to stop by there get get a little get a little hat and you know represent boy but yeah I was like yeah this is where Wiley went oh man all right can I be honest with you what's up all right dude here it is man here are you okay with this on your on your episode yeah you're gonna be real okay all right not Epstein real no but we can go there later we're gonna go down that rabbit hole off there we can go down that rabbit hole we're gonna we're gonna go there dude all right so you know cancer everything right yep you you were there a couple people were there right and and I started realizing man this is why the the episodes have gone down you know just slow slow paced you know I started realizing who the true MF is dude like I don't want to cuss that you know the the the true and and I started noticing like the older you get man friends come and go 100 they come and go right yes and then then you start realizing they're not really your friend they they're just that that person you know that it's in your life and and I don't know maybe I took in or thought of people with being like a true friend but then no and cancer really woke me up dude not not because you know I was on deathbed I wasn't on my deathbed I when when I needed somebody when I was when I when I was down it felt like there was no one there and so like the the the podcast I sensed it was fake. I brought so many people on thinking that you know this and that you know not not trying to move up in the ranks not at all but just try to put somebody on blast and promote them and then I I felt like I was promoting somebody else so so many other people but dude they couldn't say as simple as hi. Yeah you know what I mean and that's shitty and and and I'm not saying you know I'm not on on my soapbox but it woke me up man it woke me up and and made me think I was like dude I need to start putting family first and I have been and dude ever since I got the clear and in remission man I've been on a regiment of just you know working out watching what I take in my body you know I was doing that when besides the pizzas that we had and the beers you know but I slowed down the drinking a lot a lot and good for you but I I noticed there's a lot of fake people man and I just had to get rid of it you know and it it you could you can't do it fast because they then they're like oh you know and it's not about he thinks he's better than us yeah yeah but when in fact that's the other way around man and so so I just I you know the people that are brought in it was just you know it is what it is right yeah and but you get burned and get burned and burned and so I what what what I'm trying to say is man it was it's it's been tough but finding your true friends is all worth it man and when I when I when I can when I'm here and I'm I'm telling you this I want you to know dude like you're you're a real guy because you were one of the dude I'm gonna tell you you weren't in the off in in the the room with me while I was getting my treatment there was only three people my wife my friend Kristen and Jose Garcia shout out to Jose you know and Kristen and my wife and then you always checking in on me you know and it meant a lot and so it's it's it's it's tough to say without because I know people don't listen anymore right now people people people do listen but not not not those people yeah you but you never know they might sneak in one you know and you're like oh you're talking shit because I got that before too but but no I like I I had to slow down man I was just putting out episode after episode putting that first not my family lost a lot of time with my girls been making up a lot of time you know um doing things but the podcast will always be there that's what I was trying to say on on the the Instagram post but I'm I'm not I'm making it to the point that I'm gonna have fun not just not just where it's all about yeah and and but I lost sight of it for a reason for some reason I lost sight of it and it got to the point that I was interviewing people and you can tell sometimes like not lately but like a year and a half ago that dude I was just hating it I was hating it I was just I was trying trying to get their story out when I was dealing with my own story and and my shit. Yeah I know exactly what you mean and I tried I did my best to not put my shit out there and and and just promote them and then you know they do their they do what they do and they're gone. And it it's no matter where you're at whether you're you know you're you're you know a runner a mountaineer or rodeo guy the that it's like they do your thing they do their thing and they're out you know that's what's that saying it's your your number one supporter is a complete stranger your number one enemy is somebody like the closest to you something else yeah yeah yeah yeah and and and so I learned that man so hold on drinking diapsi guys um but so so like with the the regiment I'm I'm finding more in in this regiment of mine and you know when when I lost in December when I put thing everything on hold yeah dude I don't want to go there it's not me but started going full time church I ain't gonna preach I don't preach I go there to try to find right yep and and I I don't know I know you're probably uh you know a believer and everything else and I've always fought you know always fought my beliefs because I don't believe politics should be in the church yeah and so and they shouldn't no no no and when the when the politics are said in the church I'm like God so I've been going I've been trying to trying to find just myself with this regiment I go I try to go to church every Saturday because I can't go sunday just can't do it can't do it so I've been doing that and I think out since December I've only had four days off of working out dude my body is done my body is done so hey you we don't recover like we used to you know when when you get older you're you'll you'll you'll know but man dude I'm I'm glad just to go out for a mile you know I'm content before I'm like dude I need to go 12 I'm gonna go 20 miles you know I need to get some elevation you know this and that but like I need to come up there and run with you I've been slapping on the gym I need I need to so so I've been doing a lot of high rocks and and uh crossfit since I got the clearer and so I just my mind's been on that my mind's been on family been trying to find myself you know just with the guidance but it's it's hard because I uh always fought and I'm still fighting so I tried to find you know somebody Chainsaw Brewer Robbie Narquis he I've he's been on the podcast he's Catholic I'm Catholic too and he he doesn't spit shit at me but he's like dude every day's a struggle it's not perfect I'm like all right that's good I liked it and then you listen to other podcasts right just JR E and yours and a couple other ones yeah John Ryan recently with the Epstein stuff the Epstein dude yo yo the the reels with you and the Epstein bro it's like ah we can I know I know I know we we don't need to go down that rabbit hole all right now all night but did you did you watch the uh Shiloh Buff one just recently no I didn't watch that man watch that dude he's every time I get on my phone dude if it's not rodeo or some sports here there it's all negative even my mom will text me like did you see where you know this drunk driver killed a business I can't do it or something like that it's like no I can't do it but I I can't either it's just it's always negative no matter what it is but when you say Shiloh buff people like oh that guy is off his rocker the the the way he he believes the way he was spitting stuff out you see clips in here and there with the the reels and you're like dude he was drinking you know but yeah dude so there's this one thing man and the this is getting back to the church this is one thing that he said You know, when you pray, you just shut up, you don't say anything, right? And the other day, I'll I'll finish what he was saying. Don't say anything, just shut up, just shut up and listen, right? And it gets to the point that you start listening and you hear stuff, right? That's what it's for. Well, I didn't know it at the time, right? But two, three weeks ago, man, I was like Fridays are my day just to chill. It's my day to relax, I do karaoke, have a couple beers, right? So I had a couple more beers than usual, and I, you know, I'm hanging out with a lady, we're going home. Uh probably had six beers, right? And and I'm like, babe, babe. And I remember because I I you know I don't drink to get shitty. And so I'm like, babe, like I'm really having a tough time, right? I'm really having a tough time. She's like, about what? Like, church. Like every time, like, I'm not gonna try to cry. I'm not gonna cry, right? Every time I go to church, and and this episode just came out, Shiloh Bus episode just came out like six, seven days ago, and I didn't want to watch it, but the I saw the clip. Every time I go to church after I take the bread, I I I think and try to like not think, right? And I don't think, but every time it's quiet, there's one thing I always think of, and man, I started tearing up to my wife. I was like, it's I always hear my dad, and I don't want to hear my dad. Yeah, I don't want to because, dude, I saw him on his deathbed. That's another reason why it's the podcast, you know, it's just dad died, in-law died months later, and then cancer. You know, I was dealing with cancer when my dad was, you know, undiagnosed when my dad was on his deathbed, and then you know, father-in-law and everything else, and man, I just broke out in tears every time I sit down there. Like, I can't kneel because my knees aren't bad. I just can't I can't kneel before. I can't, I can't. I I don't think I will, but I sit there close enough that I'm kneeling, right? And and and man, I just try to catch myself not to cry. But what Shiloh Buff said, dude, I was like, holy shit! Like and then man, it's it's out of this world thinking like you know, here I thought I had a problem, yeah, but it's real, and then somebody just put icing on the cake, and not it's not not so much a celebrity, but it was like some validation that I'm like, dude, what the hell? I've been always a tough non-believer. I was baptized.

SPEAKER_01

We have talked about you know our beliefs, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm not completely the same way. I'm I'm heavy in my faith and my own beliefs, yeah, yeah. You know, like we've talked about. I I keep it to myself, but I think you have to have your own relationship with God. Yeah, we've we've already we've always talked about that.

SPEAKER_03

Bettering myself, and then you know this regiment that I think is life-changing, not the church, it's part of, yeah, but you know, just getting my body to the point that dude, I'm almost you know, 20 some years old, but I'm I'm 44. But it just I my buddy Robbie was like, dude, this is a good episode. I'm like, dude, it's shy of buff, man. But then I started seeing the clips and started hearing the clips, and you know, the guy uh it was channel five with Andrew Callahan, right? He's like, What would you do if you if Jesus was here? And he was like, Nothing. I just want to kiss him. You know, what would you say? He's like, Nothing, I just want to kiss him. And dude, he was like in deep thought in there. But what stayed true to in that that episode is how true he was, just telling how it is, but that silence, man, just shut up. And and here I am, like two, three weeks ago, I was like, Man, I can't say anything. I it's quiet, but when it's too quiet, I start thinking my dad when he was doing his thing on his deathbed, man, like always want to fight and stuff, and you know, I hear his voice, and it's just like you know, like in the movies everything goes quiet, and then all of a sudden speaking, that's that's how it goes. This preaching guy, you know, just talking about it, but it was like, holy shit, that's true. I'm I'm not the only one, you know, and I and then talking to Robbie, you know, it's it's yeah, it's it's weird, it's a weird experience, it's a new ex it's a new experience.

SPEAKER_01

Well good, I'm glad you're glad you're getting a little more involved with it.

hoosing Between Competing And Picking Up

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. So yeah, man, if if if the homily, you know, if the preacher is not spitting out some stuff that I want to hear or not truth, dude, I don't want any part of it. But when he does, I'm like, yeah, it slaps, you know. Yeah. How you young and say, you know, it slaps. But yeah, man, it was it was good stuff. You need to listen to it, man. Oh, I I will. I I got my long it's on YouTube. Is it? Yeah, it's on YouTube. Shia LaBeouf. Yeah, Shiloh Buff, channel five. I'll I'll send you the link. But yeah, man, it was just when he said that, so shut up, listen, bam, dude. And then here I am like three weeks ago. I'm like, babe, I got a problem. What the hell? I think of dad, man. I'm fucked dude. Yeah. Good stuff though, man. But yeah, I learned a lot, man. I learned a lot, and I think you know, you checking in, man, helps too, dude, because you know, I've I'm I I had to because working my ass off.

SPEAKER_01

Like, I I know between I I I remember that week especially. Like, I think we had talked like a couple weeks before that. And I remember you said like you were gonna get your media card, and then you you told me your dad died, and then you told me about cancer. I was like, okay, yeah, I gotta reach out to him.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah, man. So yeah, it's wild, it's wild times, man.

SPEAKER_01

And and I I was going through it that year too. That was the worst year I had rodeoing. And I know, like, I was I was trying to keep you afloat. You were keeping me afloat because I tried. That was a shitty year for me as well.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. But here we are, dude. Here we are. Here we are in Zilla, remote, man. God, I was just telling my wife, I was like, Yeah, I gotta, I'm going to Zilla. She's like, Zilla, you're gonna bring the whole thing there? Yeah, yeah. Because in in December, man, I took down all my my dude stuff in that in the teacup studio. Did you took it all, threw away the the table, need a new table.

SPEAKER_01

Well, it had 49ers stuff on it, so go niners, man.

SPEAKER_03

No matter what, dude. I don't care, man. No matter what. They can be like I like they were back in the day, two and fourteen before you know when they played 16. When they were two and fourteen, dude, I got a tattoo. Yeah, man. I just I'm gonna be diehard. I'm diehard. I don't I respect, can't do it, can't do it. So yeah, man, I cleaned it all out and made it minimal, and so I do zoom, and this is the first one since I threw away everything. Yeah, good, yeah. So it's time for a new one. Special. Yeah, you better. No, I'm kidding. But no, dude, I had I had to make it out here. I I wanted to. I've been really, really, I know I've said I'm gonna tell tell stories. Been thinking about just being solo for a bit and just you know, talk and wanted to talk more about fake fakeness, you know, for real, man.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I told you I couldn't do like you can't do this on a phone, in my opinion, or a zoom call. I just all space out and I can't. Yeah, yeah. Anybody who's talked to me on the phone, I'm not that big of a talker on the phone, but no, no, no.

SPEAKER_03

But no, like seriously, I was wanted to do this for a long time and just man. Like I was telling you know, Jaxie, the girl from Oklahoma that I had to delete one of the episodes. It's like, man, some days there like some people have takes it's taken six months to to get them on. It's it's crazy, man. It takes time, and then then here we are, we're shooting the shit, reels, like, dude, where we're gonna meet. Don't know. Oh, let's meet. Oh, something came up, blah blah blah. And then you know, today, yeah, yeah, man. Barely. I just got home. Barely.

SPEAKER_01

And then I had to leave, and then I was like, okay, let's see if he's still something just came up, and then you said you were 17 minutes away. I was like, okay, I gotta hurry home.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yep, yep. So, but yeah, man, it it takes time, it sucks. But man, it was like for a minute there, I always went for their time, their time, their time, and got him in, got him in. Didn't never made any time for myself or anything. And dude, that took a toll. Got burned out to the point that you know, I don't care who listens, right? And what they think, but dude, it got to the point that I didn't want to do it. I'm in the interview and I'm like, shit, what did I just say? What the oh man, I forgot, you know?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

For real. So I even stopped listening to JRE. Really? That yeah, it started. I stopped listening. All podcasts. And so I'll put people on, and it was just like, Well, what am I doing? What am I doing? You know, like Tyler Day goodnight. Well, what do I do with these hands? What do I do with my hands? What do I do? What am I doing? Period. And so, you know, Jaxie came on and she woke me up a bit. You've woke me up a lot, you know, even before then. But she was like, Let's do a podcast, all right. And it took a couple months for her because we were gonna do one in November, and then January comes in and like, all right, let's do it. Oh man, but yeah, yeah. All right. Why are you so far into Epstein? I know it's the biggest thing, I know it is, but hey, I tell you what, man, for the people that had been in the Epstein files before they got released, all redacted and everything. The people that were called conspiracy theorists like myself, we're already in it. Yeah, but we're conspiracy theorists. Hey, it's not much a conspiracy anymore.

SPEAKER_01

But that's that's what I just find so funny. It's like, you know, is it it quacks like a duck, swims, and has feathers is probably a duck. Yes, you know, the DOJ and everybody, all the high-mighty people. Nope, it's a possum. I'm telling you guys, like, you're it's just all a hoax and whatever. But but the writing on the wall is pretty clear, but you know, they just keep shoveling. It's like, man, what a big coincidence that that's really the case.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's the government period. It's no no matter what side you're on. Well, no matter what side you're on, yes, yes. Uh the that's the the I think that's the nastiest thing you could ever do, you know, in in anybody's lifetime. Do that to kids, dude. It's sick. And the more you go down, it's not a rabbit hole, it's not a rabbit hole, it's the it's real, right? Yeah, rabbit holes are considered conspiracy theory. It's it's a word in conspiracy theory, right? It the more you look, the more you read, the more you see, the more you just try to entertain it, the the grosser it gets. And the thing is, is man, you you mention it, everybody's hands are tied, man. They they don't want to touch it because I I think uh there's so much power involved that the moment somebody says something, they're done.

SPEAKER_01

Well, that's what scares me, too. It's like, you know, whoever said it, you know, well, if we arrest all these people or expose their names, like the whole system comes down.

SPEAKER_03

It's like, well, and the fact that they're saying that, that's pretty freaking and that's what Trump was trying to say, but people weren't listening. Yeah, he he he was trying to say it's him, it's him. He's like, Yeah, I'll hurt a lot of friends. I think that's his way. It's like, dude, you putting it out there would destroy the whole system, man. Yeah, not just the the market. You know, it's not just yeah, it it's disgusting, man. And yeah, you you you you send me those reels while I send you others, we won't go there. But you know, it's just you know, everybody wants to blame this one, everybody wants to blame that one. Yeah, and in reality, man, it's just evil, dude. Yeah, the one thing that you need to do is blame the person that's doing it. Are there gonna be repercussions? Nah, no. I think you know what is it, the the Prince of Wales or whatever. What's his Prince Andrew? Yeah, I he's taking a fall. I think there's other people. There's another one that's in Britain, right? That took a took the fall again. Yeah. I think I think it's gonna take them to persecute them, though, and whatever happens, I think that that it's gonna start tumbling, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

SPEAKER_01

No, I'm not either. I've just been waiting for like you'd think the and I'm sure there is, I could be wrong. Somebody might send me something later, but I've been waiting for more of uh like all the victims to say, look, like these are the main guys right here. You all need to be able to do that. They can't.

SPEAKER_03

They can't.

SPEAKER_01

I I know they can. They can't. Yeah, I but that just scares me even more. Is like, do they think yeah they're gonna go home or or they already reached out saying, Hey, we know your whole family, we know where you go to work every day. Like, you better keep your mouth shut.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you see that book, that girl. What is that? Not everyone's girl, or something like that. She ended up suicided, yeah, as I say.

SPEAKER_01

But stuff like that is just it's scary.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, she wrote a book and it's pretty deep. I I'm I'm afraid to listen to it.

SPEAKER_01

What is it? I I don't want to. It's already I'm already way too deep. Well, it's all on my feeds now.

SPEAKER_03

I have it, but I can't, but yeah, man, she she tells everything, she tells everything, and yeah. And then she ended up committing suicide. I forgot what it was, man, but it's supposed to be deep, and I'm like, I don't wanna I don't want to do it. But you know, the survivors they can't they don't have much of a voice because what they're called crazy, it's all a lie. And I mean, who who wants to put up with that?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's I I feel for them.

SPEAKER_03

Right? Yeah. So you got you got the politicians who have supposedly the power, you know, saying, nope, it's fake, it's a lie, it's a conspiracy theory, and then you know, these girls telling them, Oh, it's you know, there's there's no clients, there's no list, no, none of this, you guys are all, yeah. And and I I I do I do feel like that that was there, there's blackmail involved. Oh, 100%. Yeah, 100%. No matter who who you are, if you're in it or not, and the moment you say something in truth, you magically get in the car. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's crazy, it's crazy, you know, and the whole frazzled dazzle or whatever, you get Clinton eating things and stuff like that. Her her demeanor in in that of that court hearing it says enough. I'm sorry, but you know, if and then the cops that watched it ended up suiciding themselves.

SPEAKER_01

Isn't it crazy how that works? Yeah, amazing how that works.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I think it's crazy how I I don't care who you are, if you're a significant partner or whatever, you can't tell me just I I don't believe it from oh well then you have to ask my husband. I I've never met Jeffrey Epstein, blah blah blah. It's like really you've there's pictures of them. If if your wife, if your wife said she's never met like whoever your closest best friend is and you've hung out with them a hundred different times, like okay, nobody does that. Nobody, yeah. Yeah. Anyways, that's a whole other we don't need to.

ollege Rodeo Growth And New Goals

SPEAKER_03

But yeah, no, but yeah, it's but the thing is, man, you know what is put to light though? It it put it's put it on the spotlight in a local level, man. It really has, dude. It it has, and and I think yeah, on a local level, they're doing their job and and doing the most. That's like you know, like when you vote, you know, when the main presidential primary, it doesn't really count. There's not a system in the site that I trust, right? Yeah, but like I if you if you vote local, that's when the shit gets made, right? Yeah, so that's how I feel. Like it hasn't done much, you know, in our eyes, because not you know, half the stuff's not on the news, majority of it's not on the news. But if you look in the local, locally, you there's a lot of stains, man. There's a lot of nasty mother effers that you know are are coming to light, getting busted, you know, because of trafficking and massage parlors just recently. You saw that in Kenwick, right?

SPEAKER_01

I I somebody saw it. Yeah, man, you know, crazy.

SPEAKER_03

It's gross, sickening. It's gross, you know, and none of my wildest dreams have I even thought or considered. I mean, I I I've worked with kids all my life, and just to fathom someone doing it to my kid, man, I'd I'd kill them.

SPEAKER_01

I'd kill him. Well, like I've told you, you know, when we were somebody asked me if I wanted to keep rodeoing or if I had a career outside of that, and I said, you know, like I'd I'd want to go into some service catch child traffickers, but I'd be fired day one.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The first predator I'd catch, I'd I'd kill him with my bare hands. Right? It's great. With my bare hands, dude.

SPEAKER_03

It's nasty. Yeah, it's the the lowest of the lows, the most disgusting thing you could ever do. But yeah, man. So like yeah, I just wanted to bring that to light because, dude, like it's when you bring it up, it's a it's a lose-lose, no matter what you look at. And the person who brings it up is wrong no matter what, and who's been down that rabbit hole. That's not a hole anymore. No, it's the truth. We're shut down, being called crazy, and yeah, stop stop watching the news. Period. I stopped watching the news years ago after after January 6th, dude. I stopped watching it, and I tell you what, with all the fakeness that I just said, with with all the bullshit that I've been through, news, not watching the news, helped.

SPEAKER_04

It's helped.

SPEAKER_03

It's helped, man. It's my it wakes you up. And it does. You you start reading more than listening to the the bullshit. And if you read more, that's where I think you get the most power, most information.

SPEAKER_01

Even I've caught myself more like even during you know 2020 when I mean everything was going crazy, right? Even some of them, like Republican pages I'd follow. Like, I had to unfollow all of them because it was just more negativity, like, oh, look what this guy said, or what this political person said. And then I would repost it, but then I'd sit there and think, like, why do I give a shit about this? Like, truthfully, why why why do I care what these guys think or it's the same thing, but it's also made me more open-minded of how other people think. But yeah, I mean, I I'm still a Republican by heart, but I've been more open-minded about a lot of other things.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, I'll post something here and there, like a repost it, but yeah, it just Republican, Democrat, uh it's we're all people, I think. Yeah, yeah. We're all people with different beliefs and opinions.

SPEAKER_03

And no matter what side, man. You believe you believe, you know. Who cares what you believe? All right, sweet. You're if you're a good person, then that's all I care about. Yeah, then then you're good to me. I'll be good to you. You're gonna hang out. Will I be friends? Nah, because like I said, I've friends come and go. For real, man. They do. Oh, oh man, but no, dude, you it's wild. It's wild to see these things. You're the the things you shot. That's those are the two, right?

SPEAKER_01

Well, the rest of these on the ground. Oh, okay. Yep, those are the only two I got.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, from Africa. Yep. Your Africa's trip. You're still going, right? Oh, yeah, I'm going back. What's grandpa going?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, he I guarantee if I text him, hey, you wanna you wanna take a couple weeks off? But like I said, I've been busy from April till next August, but we gotta find time to go back. Yeah, he's all on board.

SPEAKER_03

Damn, man, all those buckles, too.

SPEAKER_01

She's I need to give you one of them to wear.

SPEAKER_03

Nah, you're good. I think my daughter will take it like she's like she's taking my buckle, my podcast buckle.

SPEAKER_01

If you're with me somewhere, and well, you will be this summer, and I win a buckle there, you're taking it.

SPEAKER_03

Oh well, all right. Can't fight you there. All right, yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe get a few twisted teas and rocket pop only. Rocket pops, man. All right, let's go there. Let's go there, all right? Not once in my life did I ever think I'd drink a twisted tea. I thought I I'm not a tea fan. I'm not a tea fan. I hate tea. I, you know, I grew up in the south, the dirty south, and the the tea, you know, they they put out in the sun. And you know, I was young, didn't think of anything. So I was like, oh man, my dad drinks it like it's water and it tastes good. Loves tea. Tastes good. Well, it was hot, it was boiling in the in the sun. Took it, drank it. I was like, God leave, what? You know, and it's just like it's one of those moments, you know. I remember my first beer or my first sip. Bro, I'd rather have a I I remember my first Budweiser sip. I tell you what, I'll take that over that tea. So twisted tea. So the uh scuttle butt podcasts, they they there there's uh Theron, the guy, he lives near Packwood or on the other side past Packwood. And he he always drank it, always drank it. I'm like, man, that shit, man, yeah, how can you drink it? So I drank it for the first time with you, and I'm like, God damn, this is some good shit.

SPEAKER_01

But it was the rocket pop, yeah, the water down popsicle.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and then they come to find out, my daughter's like, oh, the rocket pop's the first one.

SPEAKER_03

I was like, Whoa, whoa, you just told on yourself, pump the brakes, kid. And she's like, Yeah, the rocket pop, yeah, all those other ones, the half and half, the peach. I'm like, girl, what are you talking about? Shut up. So the rocket pops, dude. Isn't it's it's it's a it's a different experience, man, in the drinking world. For real. And so you you you know, mom gets that. I you know, see some cans, I bought that, but you only get it, only comes in a certain pack, right? Unless a tall can.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so I mean, obviously, you see what I live off of, diapepsy, right? But I mean, between my mom, my sister, and my brother-in-law, like everywhere we'd go, like, oh, Wiley, do you want a beer? Oh, let me guess you want a diapepsy, yada yada yada. And mom would have a tea and I'd I'd have a sip of it. But I remember so when they first came out, they came out, well, they were in cans, but then they had the the like wine box one in the bag, and mom put it in the fridge, and I was like, Well, I want to try it, you know.

SPEAKER_03

Like it in a wine bag, dude. That's that'll get you lit.

SPEAKER_01

I had a cup of ice, you know, and it filled it up like ice cold. I remember it was like a hot, hot summer day. Yeah, and I was like, ooh, like this is good. I obviously you had one, so it tastes like a popsicle, just literally watered down popsicle.

SPEAKER_03

But I don't think it's watered down. I I think it's a perfect flavor, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It was, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Perfect flavor compared to all the the pissed beers I've drank. That's not what I'm saying is that's not pissed beer. What I'm saying, it's it tastes like rocket pop, dude. It tastes like a rocket pop, man.

SPEAKER_01

That was a good pizza and IPA place we went to in Port Port Angeles.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the beer wasn't good though. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's right. Yeah, the pizza was good. You said the p the beer side. Beer, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But I was the only one drinking, I was like, what? But yeah. Pretty good stuff. But yeah, rocket pops, man. Never streamed. Did I think I'd drink a rocket pop? And then before I come here, I'm like, I get gas. I'm like, I see those big tall cans. I turn one around, I saw peach, and I was like, fuck it, I'm not gonna, I'm not, I'm not getting in. I'm not getting it, I'm not getting it, not doing it. No. Man. So what are you doing this weekend, man?

SPEAKER_01

Gotta work tomorrow, and then I gotta get some I gotta get some horses shod before Sunday. And then Sunday, Pendleton got a jackpart open.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. You going with your buddy?

SPEAKER_01

Yep. Raleigh Faircloth. No.

SPEAKER_03

No, no.

SPEAKER_01

I rope with Zane in college, but Zayn, he's down well he might be there, so honestly, I'll probably end with him too. Yep. Riley Faircloth. And that's who you're gonna be going with this year so far. Yep.

SPEAKER_03

Well, what if okay, what if it's a team forever, man?

SPEAKER_01

It bro honestly could be just because mutual friends, where he's at, his position, and we rope really good together. Our horses work good, great together, and our schedules line up pretty good as well.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. All right. And when you guys when you guys travel, he brings his thing himself, or you guys hitch it here and then go somewhere.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, just because I mean he'll he'll I always obviously you've seen how many horses I bring. Because I got my head horse, my haze, and my bulldog and horse if I'm just competing. But he could come with me, but he usually takes two, but he'll bring his girlfriend too, and he's got a nice trailer, but we'll we'll just buddy up together and at least you know, two rigs going down the road. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Not in rain air.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, he he lucked out on that weekend because he had no work or something.

SPEAKER_03

Good times. Good times, man.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, I mean, you saw you saw the one weekend. I want you to come with me. We're going like Redmond, Ontario to Ontario. I want to say John Day, and then there's like five rodeos on that weekend, and that that'd be the most I've done.

ancer Remission And Cutting Fake Friends

SPEAKER_03

East East Oregon. Yeah. I probably have to yeah, I have to go to John Day. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's it's like it's like Redmond, Ontario, John Day, McMinnville, Courtballis. I think.

SPEAKER_03

That's like east to west, dude. That's crazy, man.

SPEAKER_01

I just don't long as you can keep me away. Hey, we we jammed out, didn't we not though? Jess Murphy.

SPEAKER_03

Jess Murphy.

SPEAKER_01

Jess Murphy.

SPEAKER_03

My daughter's like, what the hell are you listening to, Dad? I'm like, oh, you what? You never heard this? Yeah, we heard that like six months ago. I'm like, my bad.

SPEAKER_04

That's my girl.

SPEAKER_03

Right, dude. Yeah, just the way she sings, but or sang, but it's just like you know she's dirty. You know she's dirty. She's not like Ella Langley, bro.

SPEAKER_01

That's a great song, too.

SPEAKER_03

Right? Man, I tell you what, I'll never choose Texas, man. I'll never choose Texas. I'll choose Ella Langley any day. And if she's and why is she drinking whiskey alone?

unknown

I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

Bro, if a girl is drinking whiskey alone, you're the music expert. You are done. You are done. Done, bro. Don't even try. But no, she's she's yeah, bangs. Bangs never look so good on lady.

SPEAKER_01

What did you have us listening to when we were going?

SPEAKER_03

We were uh a lot of things, man. What was it? But you get you cut me off.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't know how you listen to that rock and roll shit. I like I like classic rock and roll, but you listen to a whole different death metal stuff up behind.

SPEAKER_03

No, you know what it is, man. It's not really death metal, dude. I I'll listen, I'll listen to that. But you know, majority of that stuff is uh Chriscore, dude. For real. A lot of the stuff that I listen to is Christcore, man.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, somebody's told me that.

SPEAKER_03

A lot of it's Christcore, dude. The the the the lyrics alone, man. You listen to it, it's but it's the message with the noise is where it's at. Yeah, but man, I tell you what, I'm glad I'm seeing a concert, man. I'm seeing Black Crows for the first time. I've that's like one of my bucket lists, but with them, Whiskey Meyer, man. You listen to Whiskey Meyer? No, dude, I got some songs for you. I got some songs.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, yeah, dude. The the you did have one, I'll find it in my phone later. That was pretty good. It was it was like a bluegrass band, and I was like, I don't know, but it was pretty good, and you put me on it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, no, Whiskey Meyer, man. I'm seeing them and with the Black Crows, but dude, there's some songs in there that hit that that hit and and it's the truth. The truth. I'll put I'll I'll I'll put some on. I I share like I don't put posts so much on Instagram, I share a lot of stories, and I've put some of those songs on my story. Then dude, that just uh that's you talk about man songs, like man songs, you know, like you drink a couple you like that classic red dirt, yeah. I do, man. And I don't like I don't like beer. I you like I don't like those beer songs, dude. I'm really anti-I it gets a little old. No, it's like my drinking beer and whiskey and my girl. No, no. If you you're spitting the truth and the life and and struggle and sing and overcome, that that's the kind of stuff I do. And whiskey mire, bro. That's some of the stuff, man. Like rowdy days. If you listen to that, rowdy days is probably one of the best songs, but then there's some other stuff that's lower, you know, last couple songs on albums. Yeah, man, it hits you in the feels, and you're like, dude, don't yes, it does. It does hit you in the feels, man. And that's what I've been doing, dude. I've just been getting in the feels lately, you know. It feels it feels good. It feels good.

SPEAKER_01

What song did me and Caden uh by Taylor Swift? Our song. Yeah, we went hard. Oh man, you and the T Swizzle?

SPEAKER_03

Yep, yeah, and Jess Murph, bro. Dude, she she's a tiny little thing. I've never seen her. No, she's tiny, she's tiny, dude. I I can't imagine. Can't imagine. Tiny, but you guys, when you put that on the first time and you sang the whole song.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, you can thank Raleigh Fairclaw for putting me on it.

SPEAKER_03

And you were getting down, getting the boogie while driving. I was like, dude, this guy's for real. We were what was it?

SPEAKER_01

We were we spent a lot of time in the vehicle, so yes, Umatella.

SPEAKER_03

We were on we were on the we were going to Hepner. That's when you yeah, we were going to Hepner right on that bridge. That's when you put it on. I was like, dude, this guy's for real. I'm like, oh shit. But I'm I'm listening to lyrics. I'm like, damn, she's that's that's a hot little twang. Oh yeah. And touch me like I'm you know I like whips and chance. Yeah, dude. Oh man.

SPEAKER_01

But what did you you didn't put on music, you put on something that we were trying to stay in. Oh, Adam Sandler. We are never listening to that again. My goodness. Yeah, you think my songs are bad?

SPEAKER_03

You guys didn't even know it, though.

SPEAKER_01

See, that's how how young Caden did. I didn't.

SPEAKER_03

That's how young you guys are, man. I was just like, you guys need to listen to this, and then bam. Yep. That's funny. Red redhead, red sweatshirt, the Phil goal kicker, my the my shit car, the goats. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's the first and last time I'll ever lose that.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah, some good stuff, man. Anything to stay awake, but then stay away. You you caught me though. You said you had a story about that. You caught me sleeping, you caught me lagging. So, what's the story behind that, dude?

SPEAKER_01

I was just going, and you were we were going like around a corner, and like I took it a little like what was raining first and foremost. It was three o'clock in the morning. We just made it out of the national forest. And I remember like I took a corner too fast for them. You woke up and you were like, you know, like kind of played it off. I was like, Oh, I'm gonna get him. Like, he's gonna go back out. And I kind of seen you just kind of doing the head bobbing, right? And then I saw you fully chin tucked. Caden was out like a rob.

SPEAKER_03

He was sleeping the whole time, bro. I don't know how he does it. Whole time.

SPEAKER_01

I don't either. But then I was like, okay, I gotta get these two guys in. Yeah, you two are out. That was funny.

SPEAKER_03

But then you you send a picture, I was like, Mother God.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, I gotta post it.

SPEAKER_03

Right? And I don't I don't sleep when I travel, but damn, you that I was worn out, man. I I was worn. That was worn and torn. And I didn't even dog, I didn't do anything. I was just making sure, you know, just experience and and do my best to help you out as much as I can. But dude, yeah, I don't you guys are a different breed, man. Like I said, dude, you guys you guys are a much different endurance athletes than than what I've done and do and interviewed. Those guys, me have nothing. We don't we don't even come close to you guys, dude. The the endurance you guys do.

SPEAKER_01

Oh dude, and even think like that's just that's just the Northwest. Like imagine now imagine doing this damn 300 days out of the year, yeah, here, here, I mean booking an airplane ticket, flying down there. Now imagine that during the the cowboy Christmas summer run. Yeah. Like Jesse and Dalton, like all the big boys.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and then then that's that's the that's the difference of D1 and JUCO, right?

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah. Jesse Brown, especially that that's a D1 athlete. Oh, like I sent you my picture of my shirt after I was like when I was playing, and afterwards me practicing with them. That guy's different.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, man. Speaking of shirt, you gotta get it uh approved for PRCA, don't you?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, yeah, it would take the right PRCA group of guys to like say that's a no-no, but don't worry about it. I'll take care of it.

SPEAKER_03

That's that's weird though, man.

SPEAKER_01

Why because I mean, even though there's of course I say that, someone will prove me wrong, but there's no there's no like podcast banners in the arena, but like let's say if you were a rope company, right? Well, cactus ropes sponsors the PRCA. They see another competition, they don't want that to be seen on TV because they represent you, you know what I mean.

SPEAKER_03

No, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But but like, you know, it just depends. Like I I even asked some of my other buddies, like I did ask some buddies that like Calgary Smith, I said, Hey, could I get fined for this? And he goes, Well, yeah, but you won't.

SPEAKER_03

The mine? The because of the color?

SPEAKER_01

No, because like I said, it's it could be they would think of it as competition, even though it's not PRCA.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, no, even MPRA.

SPEAKER_01

MPRA, no, they won't.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, no one else does well, PRC. There's a couple, but like there's no competition.

SPEAKER_01

No, but it it is the professional rodeo cowboys association, they gotta keep it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so if you do get fine, let me know. Yeah.

unknown

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And how how do you get it approved? Do you just go through the committee?

SPEAKER_01

Email them, submit like uh like you got you gotta send them like a little bit of money and like you know, hey, approve this, and then they'll tell you like you're good, but I'll take care of it.

SPEAKER_03

Better, nah, I'm getting but no, you get fine, let me let me know. Dude, but that that was the highlight, man. When you when you're like, hey, I need it, I need a I need it, I need it, I need it. Send me it, send me it. I was like, this is all I find, I can find. Yeah, yeah. And then then you actually do it. I'm like, bro, I was like, I'll show you later. I was like, holy shit, man. This guy stays true. But no, that that was that was uh that would that was out of this world right there. I was like, holy crap, man, this guy means business, and yeah, made my day, made my week.

SPEAKER_01

Represent anybody right, no matter what, right?

SPEAKER_03

Oh man, dude. I I need I need to I need to go the a couple of those runs, right? I need I need to get a couple guys on, man. I you know the one person I want, man. I want Shane Erickson on, dude. Yeah, that would be cool, and it's a small world, you know? Rowdy Berry's daughter, next door neighbors know him. I'm like, what? And he comes from Nevada. Yeah, it's crazy. I man, yeah, the travel, the travel.

SPEAKER_01

You need to have. Have you ever had Rowdy on?

SPEAKER_03

Rowdy. I we we talked about it I I talk to him, I talk to him, I see him every time I go to NFR, talk to the lady, shout out to them. Good people, great family. Rowdy's great family, and the coolest guys ever. Oh, yeah, man. He treats me like a family friend, you know, and yeah, it's it's nice. He's very respectful. They know my wife, you know, my wife and her, you know, his wife talk all the time. Small world, they uh where she works, they frequent. So yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So and rowdies, I mean, besides obviously making the NFR however many times fight bulls, like pilot western artists.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the western, the the art, man. If I can afford it, I'd I'd have a couple pieces.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, he'll get like just talk to him.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I would love some of his herb, the the his art because man, it pops the way he does it is good. Some something that's what I was trying to say. Like, you he has his form, you have yours, and it's just like dude.

aith Practice Grief And Hearing Dad

SPEAKER_01

See, he draws shadows and pastels, not yeah, yeah. I learned that too. Listening to your episode, pastels. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, he draws shadows in. And so I saw him a couple weeks ago, and we were talking about it, and I was talking about my stuff, and he uh I mean, we're all in like details, and I was like, like this the most like you've talked, yeah. He got really into it. No, he's in it. You know, he's like, like this right here, like this catches like the eye, and then this right here catches the eye, and how you shade that, how you make that pop. I was like, Wow, okay, I didn't think about it that way.

SPEAKER_03

And then yeah, yeah, man, it's it's it's pretty cool. That's that family's good, that family's nice, man. And Miles, dude, him him in Yakima rodeo, he's like, Hey you!

SPEAKER_02

I'm like, What?

SPEAKER_03

I mean, that alone. I'm like, What? Yeah, but you know what's cool though, man? Being on that run, people are like, Man, I know that voice from somewhere. Oh, you're the podcast guy. I'm like, shh, yeah, I was about to say that a little bit ago. Dude, it's great. That's awesome. And so, like, I'm in Walla Walla, and this guy didn't really tell him the name, but he's a regular$5 ranch brewing, one of the best brewery brewers there in the Walla Walla. I think, I think this that side of the Yakima, I think the best brewer ever, right? Shout out to Josh Hewlett. And he uh he came out, he has I think he has his own like stock stuff, right? And he's like, You're the podcast guy. I'm like, oh shit. I'm like, yeah, how how do you know about me? Oh, you know, the brewery, and you know, you get some good, some country guys on there, like, oh dang, all right. But just that. I mean, an older fella, you know, listening to the stuff, but yeah, you I forgot he has his own little ranch and everything else, but yeah, he for that alone, you know, it was pretty good.

SPEAKER_01

Like it's crazy how that works. Like, even when we did our first one, like I had my grandma, I had my dad, like people, even some people I didn't see in a long time. Like, hey, listen to that episode, like pretty good. It's like, oh, that's got I think I posted it once, but right, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

No, I mean it's cool about it.

SPEAKER_01

That's the cool side about all of that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, being in the shoots or being where I was, you know, yeah, you're the podcast guy. You I don't know your face, but I can tell by the voice. I'm like, really? Do I have a shitty voice or something? You know, but no, the podcast guy, that's that's pretty funny, man. I know the voice. I know the voice. My wife, she laughs because a lot of people do say that, like, I don't know who you are, but the voice. And Tracy's like, yeah. She's like, take it in. I'm like, really? All right, yeah, that's pretty funny. But no, man, the the the post that I posted last night, trying to get to 500 slowly, but you know, I knew I was coming out here, and I was just like, I know the the the episodes are slow, slow moving, but I I'm not. I'm always on the go, always on the go, and working my butt off and getting the recognition that I got yesterday at my work and what I do on a day job and through life, it's it's finally paying off. I feel good, you know. I just wanted to let everybody know that the podcast is there, it'll always be there, but it's gonna be on my time. Good. It's gonna be on my time, and I I guess I'll always be that guy with the voice, the guy with the voice, you know, the podcast guy. So that that those little tidbits when I'm just out and about and hearing, oh, you I know that voice. That right there, like it is it makes me feel good.

SPEAKER_01

That's awesome.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, with all the shit I talk about on the pod. I love that. Yeah, with all the shit I talk about on podcasts. I mean, you guys actually listen. All right, sweet. Yeah, but yeah, man, it's it's it's pretty cool. It's been a wild, a wild ride, man, and to have you around it's it's pretty, it's pretty good. That's it, it makes it butter, and you really have shown your true colors and yeah, so of you, buddy. Yeah, yeah. So but yeah, man, how do you how do you feel? I think this is longer than 55 minutes.

SPEAKER_01

Feel pretty good. Yeah, like I said, you you do need to go talk to Drew Pearson. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I know, man. I know, I know. There's there's so many people, dude. There's so many people I want, I want, I want on, and yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I know I've always told you, like, oh, you gotta have him, this, and this. Uh, it's on your own time, but you need to talk to Drew.

SPEAKER_03

I need to. I want, I would love to promote being on that run, made me really realize how much I enjoy the game, but also enjoy promoting the people who are up and coming, not not the people that made it, you know. Like, I yeah, you can put those guys on. But it's not fun.

SPEAKER_01

No, but I mean, isn't it awesome too just to sit around like a campfire afterwards, and then you get to meet all these guys, and everybody gets to meet you like that's and that's how that's what I loved for you as well, is you got to be a part of that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and then that's the start of the podcast, actually, man. Just have having a cold brew after doing Miles and Mountains, right? And and having a beer and have a great conversation, whether on the campfire or at the bar, you know, and it got lost in the mix, right? Got lost in the mix, and that's what I was gonna mention when I do one of the solos. And yeah, I think people are either gonna love it or they're really gonna hate it. But you know, I I won't say names and and I'll make it very vague, but people can put two and two together, and if I say F you, they'll know. So yeah, no defamation here, no lawsuits here, but just the truth, and uh definitely it's it's coming, it's coming because the more I'm searching, the more I'm feeling like, damn, you know, empowered.

SPEAKER_01

So are you still gonna do are you gonna get your uh NPRA media card or what are you?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I I knew you were gonna ask that. Yes. Just so I can have no one talk to me and be like, oh, you're not supposed to be back here. Where's your car? You know, where's your this? Where's this? You know, and I'll I'll do that.

SPEAKER_01

But our Well the reason I was asking is like I'm sure well, I know the NPR would love it just because it's like the NPRA's growing. Like they got a lot more rodeos now because ICA is kind of going away a little bit. But yeah, like I I would love for them to be more reach out to you and get something going.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Along those lines.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah, my my oldest daughter who's been messing up, that's another story. Man, dude, it's tough, dude. Tell you what, man, no matter what you do, how you do it, raise them, however, they're still gonna F up. And you you yeah, right? And I try to tell her, I try to tell her, like, man, you got no pot to piss in. You have never been anywhere, but you act like you know, you've been treated, mistreated, you've been on the streets, you've you know, you've been there, done that, and you're treating everybody like crabbing. It's just like you need to wake up before you end up on the streets, you know. And so I've been dealing with that. And she asked me, Did you do this? Did you do that? Did you sign me up? I'm like, whoa, pump the brakes. No, but you know where to go. I was like, Google. She's like, What? I was like, take your phone out and Google. She's like, uh, you never show me anything, and just ran off. I was like, my god. So maybe despite her, I'll do but no, I knew you were gonna ask that question. And so, like, as I was uh driving here, I was like, I don't know he's gonna ask me this.

SPEAKER_01

So oh you're I mean, just I know something you want to do there. Yeah, but yeah, still come with me no matter what, and even if they tell you you can't come back here, then I'll come say something.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and you know what? It's not so much if it it pays off, it's the experience, man.

SPEAKER_01

And and then if I can if I can I just know it'd be more like you would get more people reaching out to you, and it just I think it'd be a cool opportunity, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And I'll have it.

SPEAKER_01

But I still want it to be your deal on yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And I would love just to be outside a vehicle, you know, and just shoot the shit, shoot the breeze, talk, you know. Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

And not throw your shit in my pickup and you do it there, right? Hey, there we go. Around the fire or something like that.

SPEAKER_03

Around the fire, that'd be fine. In the trailer, yeah, in the trailer. In the in the trailer, the small trailer. When you told me, hey man, you can sleep on the floor. I was like, buddy, that's that I'm I'm a big boy, you know. I'm I'm a tall guy. There's no way I'm gonna fit on that floor, man. So I I'm glad I was able to pitch a tent because there is no way I would ever fit in that. But then your uh your buddy goes in there and sleeps. I'm like, bro, I don't know how you sleep anywhere you can. It's crazy.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know how you slept out in that tent. I mean, I don't know how you stayed warm first and foremost, but I sleep warm, period.

SPEAKER_03

So yeah, no, no biggie, no biggie. But you know, it's all those times and all those hours spent in the mountains, you get used to it, and everything else. But you I s I don't sleep well, period, and just getting these little lights out moments, uh it pays off. So, but not as much to when you caught me lacking, though.

SPEAKER_01

Plenty more to plenty more to go.

SPEAKER_03

Right. So when's your first rodeo around here, around here, in these parts, these neck of the woods.

SPEAKER_01

Well, we just got done with Yakima. Yeah, and I I pulled a check there, and we got Monroe next weekend. We got Monroe, then I got Elma and PRA the next, the following weekend or the next after that.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And then I got I got Pro. I don't know. Well, that that's when the California run, I think, is going somewhere a little after that. But then Redmond, Redmond, PRCA, and then a couple Anmies there, then May and June and July, and then they all start taking off. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. You gonna go visit Vegas again?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, for the World Series. I we'd we'd like to again. I mean, for as much as it pays off, yeah, it it's be stupid not to.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, what what what month?

SPEAKER_01

December. Yeah. Toward what NFR week.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. But it's low-key though. You don't hear about it. South low. Yeah, dude, I don't go to South Point.

SPEAKER_01

I don't go to South Point, dude. This year would have been the year to go because they had the horsey virus that was going around and there was not that many people there. But yeah, I I'm getting the same way you are. I less people the better.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. South Point, no. Yeah, I mean you go to Cowboy Christmas, and that that's all the people you need to go.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, even then, you're just you're always spending money. Uh it gets a little tiring here and there. But yeah, I think this next year, if we get rooms at South Point, rope or do whatever there, I might stay at my my aunt's down there.

SPEAKER_03

Gotcha.

SPEAKER_01

Go rope and yeah, maybe watch the NFR one night and head out.

pstein Files Media Distrust And Local Action

SPEAKER_03

Ran into Colby. We'll always try to run into each other there. Um, but he he bro, he's he's in it to win it, man, down there. The fashion, the the the party. I mean, dude, he's he's not partying, you know. He's he's letting yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But he man, dude, he's up all night just concert after concert, this and that. I mean, they both yeah, I don't know how they do it. And shout out to Shad, man. That boy, that that that guy, he he's a good guy, man. And the the but they definitely a good friend for cash, dude. Yeah, he's he's true and true.

SPEAKER_01

Cash, you need to come get back to rodeo, quit sitting your ass at home, not doing anything.

SPEAKER_03

Well, he said he's bull, he he's going bull, he's gonna go to the clinic, he's gonna be dogging.

SPEAKER_01

He said he's he needs to keep bareback riding too. He keeps saying, you know, the age deal, but I mean But he wants a bulldog. He wants the bulldog, which he can, but I mean it he needs to do that too. But the as good as he rode bareback horses for not being a part of it for so long, but it's for as good as he could ride a horse. I mean, and plus there's not there's not that many bareback riders out there, but that's why I wanted to keep going, just because I I fear for that going away one of these years. But no, he needs to get back in it no matter what.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and his buddy, right? He's in the music too. I don't know if you know that. No, yeah, watch, watch, watch. Just watch. That's what I'm saying. That's all I'm saying. Watch. But no, a good guy, man. Yeah, he wish I had a time to catch uh cash with some some brews.

SPEAKER_01

Went to the well, maybe if he starts if he hears this, he'll be out the next road. He might be in the pickup with us going down the road.

SPEAKER_03

Did have some brews together at the Betzler's wedding, though, too. So that was that was pretty good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's a pretty funny guy.

SPEAKER_01

I've known him my whole life. I've known that whole family my whole life.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but no, he he takes that fashion. He him and his wife, dude. Oh yeah. And then got my wife talking to his wife, and um they're talking boots, and I'm like, God, shut up. Stop. My wife, dude. I think my wife spent over a grand on just clothing. Shit. And then she wants to talk boots, like, babe, buy me boots. I'm like, nah, I'm I'm good, I'm good. But yeah, she was all about fur for this year. It was fur. Did you did you notice that?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I've noticed, oh yeah. NFR fashion posse. I always see it.

SPEAKER_03

Bro, fur was in, so she bought a fur vest and some other things, and there's some outlandish designs on some, and I'm like, people actually wear this. So I upgraded my some of my uh Pearl snaps. Did you? Yeah, I got some rhinestones, man, some rose and rhinestones. Yeah, got a lot of compliments because went to go see Mariah Carey.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, there you go. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So Tracy's like, we gotta match. This will look great. So I bought it, and man, every lady was all like, I like your outfit, you guys match. And I'm like, my wife told me to buy it, she told me to wear it. She's like, That's good, you're a good guy to wear it. I'm like, oh, okay, well, cool.

SPEAKER_02

But I'm like, I was like, I do not want to compliment like that.

SPEAKER_03

I I did not want to wear it, but no, my Pearl Snap game is it's not like a lot of you guys, but it's getting there to my my liking. Yeah, Ryan's. Yeah, and you know what the sad thing is? I didn't know they were there until I was leaving. There the the social media the social media is not that big and like they are in the emails. And I left. I was leaving, and then I found out Ag had their own little thing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I was like, what?

SPEAKER_01

They're so awesome too. Like, even I'll tell you after this, but there's another I guess I'm still an ambassador for them, but yeah, or do we have to re-up? Well, we're still ambassadors. I was mean like, so I'm an ambassador for this other company I'll tell you about later. Yeah, yeah. And like they wouldn't give me my discount there. And I was like, What? Like, why I can't use it here, but anyways, I still end up paying them a lot of money. Yeah, but then these other them, I was like, Hey, is my discount good here? They go, Yeah. I go, Well, actually, we'll we'll make this deal with you. I go, seriously. So, and even there were some other people there. I'm like, Can they use my discount? They go, Yeah, you guys are awesome.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I could have bought more things there.

SPEAKER_01

Awesome.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, do we have to re-up?

SPEAKER_01

It's been a year. Yeah, it's been a year. I have I still got my login and everything on our one.

SPEAKER_03

I need to I need to do that then. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I need to do that. Represent our company here.

SPEAKER_03

I do all the time. I work out. I I love their pro their pro gear, man. I like the work out in that sweatshirt. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I work out all the time in their stuff, man. Yeah, dude. So I'm always repping their stuff. I just have a few pearl snaps of theirs, which is good, but yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I love the wrinkles, the breathable, and that's kind of like a big thing now. A lot of guys are using those at roads. Yep. It's it's taken off.

SPEAKER_03

Man, oh man. Then I got well, I did buy some snakescan boots. Oh, yeah. I saw those. Ain't gonna wear those out there though. Yeah, I know, right? No, I'll I'll stick with my twisted axe.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, you'll like higher boots.

SPEAKER_03

Oh man, I tell you what, after watching that guy be held on by his boots and rip went straight through his boots. Uh man, I don't know if any ankle or leg or foot is safe in a steer, dude.

SPEAKER_01

Where was this at?

SPEAKER_00

Or was it w what what road are we talking about?

SPEAKER_03

It wasn't Goldendale.

SPEAKER_01

Oh no, it was uh oh, it was it was Kalam. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, oh yeah, I remember that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

He tries to get off and then he's hanging. He was hanging on his horse. And then his boot. I mean, I'm surprised it didn't go through. I I was surprised it didn't go through his skin. He was very lucky, man.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it happens. Freak deals like that happened. Well, that happened. So, like my first my first rodeo, college rodeo, uh, which was two falls ago. Um I was getting off first year, coming back senior year. You know, I had my shitty year last year, didn't win the regen again. I got off my horse. I was getting onto my steer, like perfect get off, right? And when I got off, I tossed my reins, but I also moved my left hand, so I tossed my reins, and my right arm hooked my reins and I was hooked onto the steer. Well, my horse took off. Yeah, I somehow like was locked up. I ended up doing like four cartwheels, still held onto my reins, and then kind of whiplash, woke up like, what the hell just happened? I haven't had that wreck happen since, but yeah, I mean, they'll life will throw a curveball at you that you don't expect sometimes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, scary shit, man. That's why I like I don't know how you guys do it, man. The the endurance, the the animal, the like I always say, I like I like to be in control. That's why I don't go near water when I'm out there. Like, seriously, man. I like I like to be in control. You guys, that animal's in control. That animal's a lot bigger than us, but you guys do it, and you guys, you guys are D1 for it, man. I'm telling you. Say D1 because to put things in perspective, dude. There's yeah, it's crazy.

SPEAKER_01

You know, we were talking about religion a little bit ago, and like I'd mentioned a couple times I had a shitty year, which was my junior year, so the point I was making was so start start a junior year. I know it's one I want to talk about this like a while ago, but meaning like a while ago, if we were gonna have this episode, but so I have this little devotional Bible, right? Yeah, and I open it every single, you know, every single day. But so freshman sophomore year, I win the college region, right? Steer wrestling. And I'm coming back junior year, and I didn't like plan on coming back, but you know, sticking around up here, I talked to my my parents and talked to my coach, and it was just kind of the best option. And my first year coming back, okay, so you know, there's not not a cockiness that I was feeling, nothing like that, but it's it was like, okay, you know, if I'd won this twice, like we're going further, right? So I get ready to run my first steer, and I mean blow right by him, miss him, and and Zayn plows me over with my own haze horse, right? And I kind of like get not knocked out, but I mean, when air takes out of me, and wasn't Zane's fault, steer set up, I jumped for him, amen. Shit happens, but I remember like I was gasping for air, like, man, that that sucked. But the next day, which was which helped me a lot with my faith and my my relationship with God. So I opened up my devotional and it talked about admiration. And it went into detail about how there was this kid that was a surfer, right? And he studied, studied how guys, you know, get on a turn back wave, how they improve their cardio and their swinging, like or swimming. Loved everything about surfing, loved every minute of it, was wanted to be like with these level of guys, and so he gets out on the waves one day, he's practicing this, practicing that, and he wipes out, wipes out, and he's wakes up, wait, he comes ashore and he's gasping for air. At the end of it, it says, you know, he knew his next way was gonna be better than his first one. Then at the end of it, it says, you know, who do you admire or what do you admire? And that talked and had that right there, and I opened it up the very next day. So I was like, wow, like that that kind of hit me right there, you know. Then I run my stir that next day, win second, and the next day, win third, like that. But but then I had like a completely horrible, horrible year, didn't win the region. Zane got it, which rightfully so. He had an amazing year. Didn't make the college finals, didn't win the region, didn't make the MPRA finals, didn't make the circuit finals, just barely rodeoed the most I ever did, won the most money I did, but still didn't come out ahead, nothing. Sold my sold my old horse, got Cisco going, and I had to have that year, but it taught me, it taught me a lot, and just to keep going and don't don't give up, stay to your faith, stick to your guns. But yeah, it was definitely that part of going through it, which woke you up, woke me up.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that experience, man. Yeah, dude. It's crazy. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

It just you can be on top of the world, and then but I had to have that to not not lose that edge, like nothing is guaranteed at all. Humble, humble, very humble, extremely senior year. Have an awesome senior year.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And there's still more years to come, too.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's just college.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, when when when's are you going to clinics anytime soon?

SPEAKER_01

I need to ask Jesse. I know him and Dalton did one a couple years ago, and it was about April, March, somewhere around there, but I hope they have it.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Any other clinics out there?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, there's Joel Knapps and Eric Johnson's, which the Les Patterson Blue Logging School, which is over in Toppinish. Um I called Joel. He never called me back, but I just gotta keep hounding him.

SPEAKER_03

What if Wagsy invites you?

SPEAKER_01

Well, he won't, but I could call, I could call Tom Kearney and then go down to his place and he would oh yeah. I could call him right now. With those Louisiana boys? Yep, with Louisiana boys.

SPEAKER_03

It's crazy, man.

SPEAKER_01

Man, if we ever if we ever grew a wild hair in the butt and you wanted to come down there, like you think you think some guys are all about it. Yeah, those boys will make you cry.

edia Pass Plans Rodeo Calendar And Wrap

SPEAKER_03

I know, man. I've been wanting to go down southeast, those Georgia, Alabama boys, they they hit different, but yeah, it's just I wanted to go out there and and experience that on the on the beach, but wasn't able to. But I'm sure if I call uh you know one of those guys that I've had on, you know, call them, they'll be happy to show me around and probably drink more than just twisted teeth. Yeah. Right? Serious, but no, it's good times, man. But you know, I definitely know, man, different territories, different regions have their thing, man. And I I I tell you what, the region here that it's uh not it's low, I I think low profile is that area in Colville, man. That area up there. They're different, they're different, man. They're they're really uh close knit, but dude, they uh I would say it doesn't matter where you come from, man. Whoever puts in the words their ass, like yeah, but but you never think you never think, but yeah, but no, they're those guys they're they're gritty and uh they're like honky tonk, if you know what I mean. Serious, serious, man. So what time is it, man? All right, we've probably been at it for two hours. Have we? Yeah, how are you feeling? You tired? Feeling good. Oh, you're good, dude. I'm tired, but I know you were. Oh yeah, I'm yeah, getting out there. Where's mom? Oh, I don't know. She's still out. You better check on it. She's probably getting you twisted T right now, like, oh Nick's there, oh in that summer season, rock and pop's not out yet, right? But dude, God, what no IPAs, no, no keystone, no you have the IPAs or whatever you want.

SPEAKER_01

No, I dude, I can't do beer. I mean, I've I know I've told you that. I just I can't, you know, obviously personal reasons outside of the taste, but I can't get past the taste.

SPEAKER_03

You got the sweet too.

SPEAKER_01

I do. I mean, you saw I I snack, yeah. Snack, I have a couple does, but but for some reason I like this. All right, man. It's bad for you.

SPEAKER_03

So Sunday I'll sign up for my my card. Sunday I'll show you, I'll show you the receipt. I don't know if I'm gonna put my daughter in it, though. Maybe I'll just put you know, and and somebody for it. I don't know how it goes, but I've looked at it and looked at it and looked at it, and you know, that that the whole break and cleaning up will like made me feel like nah, and that's not this year. But then when you come around, I'm like, damn, it is my year, and then I'm like, nah, it's not. You come around, I'm like, yes, it is. You know, I mean that's that's the kind of shit that goes into my mind, man. And you know, I'm like, you know, the the where I work, they're at state right now. If they went tonight, their championship, and I'm like, do I want to go? But no, I don't because I gotta go to church at four o'clock. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I know Zilla's, I know they just won their game. I don't know what they're playing next, but yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Zilla's in it, yeah. But yeah, dude, it's it's it's I'm I'm really focused and it's like and then I'm I'm coaching and it's just like, oh man, I have to wake up at 4 30 to get at the five o'clock class, you know, and work out. And I hate working out early in the morning on an empty stomach, dude. It's just really yeah, I hate it. I hate it. And really, yeah, it's it's it doesn't feel good. So, like at night, and like when everything's said and done, I just release the beast so I can crash. I don't like to try to crash at five to six o'clock in the morning and go to work and then deal with the day, you know, and then practice and yeah, take it off. So, but hopefully, this week, since this was the first week of spring sports, next week I'm gonna be able to hit some night classes. But yeah, uh the the reason why I don't like the morning is because I don't eat in the morning before I work out. I I like the evening because I I've snacked.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't eat before I work out and get done.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, definitely difference in performance, man. But with my age, it's all like if I'm out there, I'm out there. If I'm I'm getting it in, I'm getting it in, man. And man, it's it's it's crazy how the body changes as you age, dude. You know, for real. Just like uh, you know, if you drink, you don't recover like you used to, you know, right? Oh man, there's sometimes like maybe a couple like a month ago or more than a month ago, had a little more than I should. Didn't feel like shit. Was perfectly fine. Woke up in the morning, like, dude, what is up with me, man? I'm like, God, yeah, it's like, do I need to put my finger down my throat? I'm like, so I get up and I didn't feel dizzy or nothing, but you know, you got that feeling, you're like, ugh, something didn't sit right. And so I did it. And I was I was frowned upon because I ended up barfing.

SPEAKER_02

And if you end up barfing in my house, dad drank too much, mom, mom, dad was barfing, dad barfed.

SPEAKER_03

And I'm like, no, dad didn't barf. Something's wrong with dad. But yeah, dude, I was out. I was out of commission that whole day. I was like, dude, I need to something, I need to uh, you know, gather my thoughts of life and decision making, dude. But I didn't get I didn't get fucked up.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't get fucked up.

SPEAKER_03

But Lillian, the the little one, told on me, and you know, she told on me, and her truths are truth. When you say truths with an F, you know it's true.

SPEAKER_01

Isn't it crazy how like not I'm not comparing body type, obviously, you got me beep, but last year at the end of one of our college rodeos, we were like, hey, let's all have a football game. And like, man, first 20 minutes into it, like didn't feel a thing, right? When we got it done, holy shit, man. Like, I think every one of us was huffing and puffing, like seeing stars dehydrated. I was like, man, I was like, Oh, I wasn't out of high school that long ago. And yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah, man. Time what is it, father time, right? Get to you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Get to you.

SPEAKER_01

Or practicing with Jesse Brown and watching him run 30 steers in a row, he'll wear you out.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, man. Yeah, he's a different breed. Oh my goodness.

SPEAKER_01

Dude, I'm not even kidding. Like, I've watched him run 30 steers in a row and not break a sweat and make every single steer make their heels click. And he's like, All right, you're up, you know, like let's let's match right here. Like, dude, like you are the 98. You are the two percent of the 98, that's for sure.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. It's crazy.

SPEAKER_01

SPEAKER_01

So you can't do that over the phone.

SPEAKER_03

No, I can't. I can never do it over the phone. Well, I I tell you what, we'll we'll have another one when I'm I'll bring gear. Hopefully, one one day I'll get a Mac, a laptop, and and be able to not take this big thing and on remote and just shoot the shit around your propane campfire. Yeah, your fire pit. Yeah.

Aftermath.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's that that's really the fun part too, man. The after hours, before and after hours. It's it's yeah, it's just dude. Yeah. Different breed, man. Different, different life, different style of just getting it in. You guys have it. And yeah, there's no ultra marathoner, no, you know, multiple day runner, no mountaineer has anything on on what you guys do day in and day out. Like we we only take care of ourselves. You guys have another beast or five or you know, in charge of that you got to take care of. Can't take care of just yourself like us. You gotta take care of them too. And if they you don't, you don't survive. So yeah, dude. But no, it was quite the experience. I appreciate it. I appreciate everything you do for me, man. You reaching out, buddy. You know, I appreciate the reels, the Epstein reels, but just know it's all phony. It's all phony. Been there too. Yeah, yeah. So keep them coming, man. But nah, dude, I appreciate you more than you think. And no, and when I when I told my wife that have to do a podcast, she's like, who and where? And dude, she didn't even question. Yeah, she gave me some grief. Like, oh, I missed you already. I'm like, shut up, man. I've been married to you. I've been married to her for almost 20 like this year will be 20 years, dude. Congratulations. 20 years, and so when when when I tell her where and who August 27th, right? Uh married? Yeah 25th. 25th. 25th. 25th, yeah. And and I mean I remember it because that was when we did our first episode.

SPEAKER_01

You're like, oh, we got our anniversary now, like I gotta go to dinner.

SPEAKER_03

Right, yeah, that was good times. But no, man, it when when when she heard, knew, she didn't even question. Yeah, she gave me some grief, like, I'm missing. Like, but yeah, she knew and she left me be. So it was it, so it means something. So I appreciate you, man.

SPEAKER_01

Tell them all hello for me.

SPEAKER_03
