Mornings With Jesus

The Quack Toy: Understanding Sin's Grip on Humanity

Joshua Scott Zeitz Season 2 Episode 36

Send us a text

From the depths of human disobedience to the heights of divine grace, Romans 5:19 unveils a profound spiritual reality: "For as by one man's disobedience, many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous." This powerful scripture launches us into an exploration of sin's origins and God's extraordinary response.

Sin entered our world through a single act of disobedience in the Garden of Eden, lodging itself deep within humanity's heart. Like a foreign object unknowingly trapped in one's throat, sin caused damage without our understanding its source. Here's where God's mercy shines brilliantly—rather than abandoning us to our condition, He provided the law as a spiritual x-ray, revealing what was causing our suffering. This diagnosis wasn't punishment but grace, showing us what needed healing.

Yet God's love didn't stop at diagnosis. In the ultimate act of redemption, Jesus Christ became sin for us, breaking death's hold through His sacrifice. What began with one man's disobedience found its remedy in one man's perfect obedience. This singular act of love offers us freedom from sin's chains and the opportunity to spend eternity with our Creator. Whether you're hearing this message for the first time or have walked with Jesus for years, the invitation remains: embrace this salvation for yourself and share it with others. The good news is too powerful to keep to ourselves—Jesus is alive, and He has rescued us from sin!

Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to Mornings with Jesus, your daily dose of encouragement. I am your host, joshua Scott Zaitz. Today's encouragement comes from Romans, chapter 5 and verse 19. It reads For as by one man's disobedience, many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. By the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Today marks the beginning of a very special week here on Mornings with Jesus, which I am calling Sin Week learning to overcome sin with the Son S-O-N.

Speaker 1:

As we launch off into Sin Week, it's important for us to know what sin is and how it got here in the first place. To answer that first part, according to the Bible, sin is transgression against the law. However, the Bible also says sin is not charged against anyone where there is no law. Now, the law did not come about until the time of Moses, but we know that the effects of sin were felt way before Moses. Right after Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they were kicked out of the Garden of Eden and so much evil persisted from that time on. There was so much evil that God destroyed all mankind, save Noah and his family, in the flood. With all that said, there seems to be a contradiction at play. If sin doesn't exist without the law, why would God bring the law to mankind? The simple answer is this the law was given as a gracious act of God to show mankind their depravity, to show them their need for a savior. The law was given to show mankind the reason for the death and destruction that was reigning on the inside of them, of us. Now. I actually posed this question to the Lord and he gave me an illustration to better drive home the fact of how gracious of an act it was that God would bring the law to us.

Speaker 1:

Let's suppose you have something lodged deep in your throat, a quack toy of some kind. You have no idea how it got there. It happened to fall in your mouth one day while you were napping and lodged itself there. Ever since that time, when the moment is just right, you make a squeaking sound. Now this has been getting steadily worse, and yet you have no idea where it's coming from or what is causing it. One day someone comes along, a doctor, and says I think I know what may be causing this. Come to my office and let me perform an x-ray. Reluctantly, you agree. While there, however, the x-ray snaps a photo of what is going on inside your throat, it becomes quite clear that there is something lodged in there. Quite clear that there is something lodged in there. Upon closer examination, you find that, of all things, it is a small quack toy belonging to one of your children. Apparently, while you were napping away in your chair, your child was playing on your lap and stuck this toy down your throat. Now, within this story, the child represents Adam and Eve. They were playing around with the toy that God told them not to mess with, and it lodged itself deep within the heart of mankind.

Speaker 1:

The Bible says by one man's disobedience, sin entered the world. But it doesn't stop there. The good news is this Although it very well could have stopped there, god could have just left us in our mess. After all, we were the ones to forsake Him and His command. Not the other way around, but instead, in His loving kindness, he came along with His x-ray machine the law and presented it to Moses. Of all people, a murderer wandering in the desert. What an awesome God we serve who, instead of utterly forsaking us, not only showed us an x-ray of what was going on inside of us the sin problem but also became sin for us to loose the pangs of death, hell and the grave Amen.

Speaker 1:

First episode of Sin Week singular. It is vitally important that we realize just how good God is. It was a singular act of disobedience that thwarted mankind into the depths of despair, called sin. But praise be to God Almighty, because it was His singular act of love, sacrificing Himself for all mankind, that provided a way for us to be free from the chains of sin.

Speaker 1:

Listen, no matter what you are going through right now, I just gave you a reason to jump and shout for all eternity Because of Jesus Christ. You have the opportunity to have your name written in the Lamb's book of life. You have the opportunity to escape hell and spend eternity with the most loving, gracious, long-suffering person in all of human history and well beyond, the Lord Almighty. Do you know him today? Are you born again? Have you invited Jesus to be the Lord of your life? If not, I urge you to run to Him right now. If you have, then perhaps it's about time you shared Him with the world around you. Listen, jesus is alive and he rescued us from sin. Until next time, remember what you make happen for others, god will make happen for you.
