Welcome back to the Hunting Roots Podcast. I'm Brody Swisher. This is episode 243, and we can't thank you enough for jumping on, hanging out with us today. A beautiful, rainy day here in West Tennessee, and I say beautiful and rainy in the same statement because that's just it. We have needed this rain for some time. Now finally getting a little bit, just that nice little drizzly rain. It's uh perfect for the garden. And uh that's what we're getting right now. I don't know where you're jumping on from, where you're listening from, what part of the world, but we thank you for hanging out with us today. And uh just gonna do a little bit of uh taking care of some business today, a little bit of a recap of turkey season. Uh I know uh as evidenced by the social media flow and just kind of what's in your heart and in your gut, you kind of start switching gears and thinking about other things about this time and uh the turkey content. Man, uh it's been weird because this year there was less interest and I I watched, I just watched less YouTube, uh, you know, Turkey Hunting YouTube this year than ever have. I don't know what the deal was. Um I don't know if it was out there as heavy, if it was promoted as heavy, but just watched far less. In fact, I don't know. One season got started, I don't know that I watched any YouTube videos. And again, maybe that's the trend. I don't know if that's the same way you guys are. If you're watching as much as used to, I don't know if that's that ebb and flow. Um, but I mean, just the the videos, uh consuming less turkey content on uh podcasts. I've just been watching less, listening less this year, and um and I I don't know what the deal is. Uh again, I I don't know if that's uh if it's just been out there as much or not as much, or if it's just been me personally. Uh that's kind of how it goes every year. Once the season gets going, I'm I'm I'm doing my own thing. I listen to and watch a lot of stuff before season, but when it kicks off, I'm in in go mode, kill mode, and just staying after it and going to bed early. Maybe that's what it is. I I don't know. Um but it does get to that point. Once May starts rolling around and the first or second week of May come, man, it drops off real heavy, and I start thinking things have fall, and that happens every year, and that's kind of what we're gonna do today. So talking about rapping turkey, looking ahead to fall, and everything in between. This podcast is brought to you by our good friends at Onex Hunt. Onnexmaps.com is the website. Go check it out there. Pull the app up on your app store, find it, use it. Um, it's just an incredible tool. I want to make sure that everybody listening to this knows about it, has it in their phone, and again, it's it's killer for hunting season, um, all through turkey season, using it every day. Now that we're talking fishing spots, looking to cat fishing that's coming up here, we're gonna get hot and heavy on some catfishing. Same stinking deal. Dropping pins, looking at spots, uh, just looking to see how far this spot is from here. How long is it gonna take me to run? How many miles is it in uh by boat, or if I walk into the spot, whatever. I can do all that stuff through Onyx. And so cool stuff. Onexmaps.com, check it out. Also, big thanks to the crew at Mossy Oak. Mossyoke.com is their website, and you can go check out all their stuff, whether you're looking for some upgrades in your camo, some fresh gear, or looking at all the great content going up there. This week, like I said, bringing you episode 243, flying solo, and it's um a little bit different because we're actually talking a few minutes here about a turkey. Rimbo couldn't make it in, but he put the wraps on his turkey season in recent days, a late season long beard for him. Last week we talked about Aiden's bird. He killed a bird at the beginning of last week, and then that lit a fire for Remy, and uh he was like, hey, you know, I'm I'm I ain't sleeping in anymore. Aiden tagged out, I'm gonna tag out myself. I've got a tag in my pocket. I don't know what day it was, end of last week. Yeah, end of last week, I guess maybe Thursday, Friday, whenever. Go up to wake him up, like I'm going turd cutting, you won't go, because I've got a tag still. He had a tag. And surprisingly enough, even in the late season, when he's tired and weary, he said, I'll go. And he jumps up and gets out of bed, and he's he's fired up. Like I said, his brother just tagged out a few days before, so he's kind of got a mat on, lit a fire in all of us again, kind of rekindled the fire, even in the late season. And so we go to a spot that I've been, I don't know, the last three times at the new place this year. Uh, but the last three times or so we've been on this place that we thought was going to be dynamite, uh, I think the last three, maybe four times go out there, nothing. Crickets, man. Just not hearing turkeys, very discouraged. Not hearing them on me and not hearing them on anybody around me. You know what I'm saying? The neighboring farms, nothing. And that's, you know, I know a lot of that's just late season. But usually there's a bird somewhere that wants to pop off, and there's a bird somewhere that's singing the song and ready to play the game, looking for love, and just wasn't happening. Sure enough, we get out there the other day and stopped on the first front side of the farm to listen. And I thought, you know, we hadn't been on this side of the farm at all. There could be one over here hanging out, and we just don't even know about it. We sat there a little bit, not hearing much, and days kind of break, and we're thinking we should be hearing turkeys right now. And as often is the case, you know, you think, man, I bet that other side they're screaming over there. And so we jumped back in the truck and go to the other side, knowing good and well that we probably should have sat there because they just weren't gobbling. Even when we got to the other side of the farm, they weren't gobbling at first. And we sat there 10 minutes before they finally cranked up. Here's some birds long way off. Not on, man, maybe on us. I I don't know. They were a good ways off. Hearing them, and they start getting cranked up. And okay, you know, you hear the first one and he sounds like he's just waking up. Same kind of deals we talked about last week. And then they get a little louder, waking up, whatever, doing their thing, and now they're screaming, gobbling good. And I pull out the the tall timber Gabriel box call that can reach out there and touch them and and hit a lick on that, bam, slam back. Everything I did in the way of a call, they called back and they were, you know, sounding good. Even sounded at one point like they were coming. I told Remy, I said, dude, they're coming. And um sure enough, man, they get wound up, got birds talking to us. And I realized at one point they're not coming to us, but they're kind of swinging to the right. Going down a field, and I think they're not they're not doing it with us. I don't know if they're leaving us, but they're not coming to us. Um and so we we begin to scheme, we pull up on X, and we start looking at the map, we look at some opportunities and looking at some property lines and how we might can make a little move here, how much room we got to work with, all that stuff. Uh you can find rather on that app on your phone on X and make a move. Sure enough, our move pays off. We slide down to the other side of the farm. Those birds are kind of angling that way too. It gets us closer to the birds. And we set up on one side of the plot, and I thought, man, we had a hen talking, and she's up there cranking up, and just I'm like, man, I don't know how we missed her. She kind of shows up out in the uh out in the field, kind of where we had walked in, and I don't know if she just flew down up there and pitched out. I don't know. She had to come a long way to get there. But pretty sure it wasn't somebody else. Shouldn't have been anybody else on the place we're on. We're only people out there. And I told Remy, I said, we better get down across this little food plot and and get to between that hen and where I think these birds are coming. We make one more move, and I didn't like the setup. We get in this little clump. I'm I'm not digging the setup. Uh it's one of those spots you're in there pretty good, but you could also, if they slip around the side of you, backside, you can get backdoored and get busted. And I'm sitting there, got that in my mind. I'm like, we're gonna get busted before the shot comes about. And about that time, pow, this sucker just gobbles. And I mean under 75 yards maybe. Slams, and I know we're stuck, we're we're not moving. I said, dude, we can't move. You better make it happen right here. And so he was sitting down where he couldn't see very good on his butt, so I was like, man, get up on your knees. He kind of slides up on his knees, got the tree against his shoulder, sitting right next to me. And I'd snap some brush and then try to knock down some grass to make a hole, but not open us up too much. Sure enough, man, bird comes popping out to our right. And I'm gonna see if I can pull this, uh pull this up here. Let me see if I can find the video clip here, because there's a little bit of action to it. But uh bird pops out to our right, same kind of deal. And uh, exactly what we were anticipating, gonna pop out to our right. We gotta make sure we don't get busted and let him slide on out in front, and that's what happened. And Remy was, again, he was on his knees, and so he had his gun, you know, just kind of freehanding the gun out there, and he went at one point to make an adjustment. And and I see, you know, like I said, we'd heard the birds, and then I could just hear them, just some just some Jake uh excuse me, got just some gobbler whines and yelping over there. There was no hens that I I knew of, but those birds, you could just hear doing that little just the little whines and stuff, and uh just a little soft, subtle talk of you know the whines of a of a bird to our right, and I'm like, man, they're right out in front of us now. And then sure enough, they ease up, and I'm I'm hoping a prey won't busted, and then I see a redhead popping through the brush out there in the little field on the far side of it. And I hear Remy say something about it, is it a Jake? Or was it a Jake? Or it's a Jake, and I'm like, no, man, that merch is slamming good. Uh he was asking me, is it a Jake? And then I look up and I see the lead bird. It's got a long beard. And uh about that time I hear him putt, too. They busted us. They walked out there and they busted. Remy, like I said, it was on his knees, and at one point he goes to make an adjustment. I think he's kind of moving his hand up the stock of the gun, and um he makes an adjustment and the gun dips or raises up or something. And I'm thinking they caught that because it wasn't long after they putt and were busted. But the lead bird, I don't know if he's like I'm freaking out, and so he walks faster instead of turning a leave and go back the way they came, he kind of starts fast walking on ahead. Like he's gonna slip on by us. And I tell Remy, I said, You better get on him, kill him, you better kill him. And uh let me just see if I've got the if I can play this audio here. He makes a shot. I mean it's it's it's he gets on him, makes a shot, dumps his bird, and I I'll be honest with you, I I that's a shot I I miss uh many, many times. And uh have missed a bird walking sideways, that old head just swinging. Um and he pulled it off. Let me see if I can find it right here. I think we got the audio.
unknownI don't know.
SPEAKER_00Busted.
unknownYou see the redhead. Long beard a front shooting. Long beard a front shoot.
SPEAKER_00And he makes a shot right there, bam, bird down, 25 yards. But you heard it. He raises, and we'll post this video later on, but he dips that gun, adjusts that gun, that barrel just significant, you know, and and he's pretty slick, but I think he still forgets just how slick their eyes are, you know, uh Turkey's vision, and and they caught that. That's when that first putt, and I was like, Oh, you're busted. We're busted, it's it's the game over. But that bird, lead bird, like I said, there were two gobblers, two long beards. The lead bird comes on out. And I I don't know if it was the the back one that was putting, and and his buddy up front was just didn't give a rip and just took off. Uh I kind of feel like that was the deal. I feel like it was that that back one was the one that busted us maybe and putted initially, but either way, the front bird, uh, when they got spooky, he he marches on up front like I'm getting out of here. I'm going on through, going through the gauntlet. It was probably 30, 35, 40 yards maybe across this little strip. And uh he pushes on through, and I tell Remy, get on him. And uh he does, and again, that's that shot that I miss that a lot. I miss that shot a lot of time because it's a sidewalking bird that's moving. He's kind of busted and he's spooked, and that old head's just you know going. He's getting out of there. And uh man, Remy executed and made a shot, 25, 30 yards right there, and just a beautiful thing. And so proud of him, tagged out in Tennessee, second long beard of the season. And so he was fired up, dude. I mean, it was just a cool we both were. I mean, anytime uh, you know, opening day was awesome, you know, that was beautiful. It was birds everywhere, gobbling good, and and just you know, we got to double, those boys got to double. That's hard to beat. But then there's something cool about the late season, too, when you get in there and you're tired and you're worn out and you pretty much burn out, and you go, and then you have one of those hunts that just you go from bad mouthing the situation. I mean, we were up there at the truck, just standing there thinking, man, this place stinks. We we we ain't had a bird all year on this place. This is just, you know, you think it's gonna be a great opportunity, a great farm, great turkey spot, and then just different conditions and circumstances and whatever. It's just not panned out what you think. And again, man, that's how fast things can change in the turkey woods. You go from the lowest to lows, and then all of a sudden, boom, he's he's gobbling. Okay, we got a player, and then you realize the player is gonna play, and man, it's just now you're on you know, top of the world. Here he comes, bird coming. And I mean, you go from just like I'm done with turkey season, I'm I'm I've had enough, I'm burnt out, I don't like I don't enjoy this anymore, I'm not having fun anymore. This is just who cares? Let's go to the house, let's go do something else, let's get some breakfast. And then he gobbles, and then he's coming, and then you realize, dude, he's he's tight now, and I hear him, and he's up in our grill, he's in shooting range, and then all that adrenaline comes back, and all that excitement comes back, and now you're back in the game, loving life, loving turkey season again. And man, I've heard people say it's like a drug, and and I I guess it's gotta be, because I I don't know. I I don't I've never messed with drugs and never done all that stuff. I don't know the feeling, but I know the feeling of a turkey and how it can take you from just ready to tap out to adrenaline rocking through your body and just a rush, man. It it is it is good, good stuff. So that was it. Turkey tag punch for Rimbo. And uh I mean, this week, as you're here, listen to this. We're we're in the final week. We've got a few days left of turkey season, and uh we got rain, which the rain really doesn't matter a whole lot. I was telling a buddy of mine the other day, he was asking about, hey, what do you what do you do when it's dreadfully light rain? I said, Man, you do that same stuff. Get out there in the open, let that bird walk by you. He's got a hen and uh that's doing the same routine every day, watches this hen, and he's got a gobbler that kind of follows that hen around. I said, Man, get where that hen's going. Know where she's going. Don't bust her, don't get right in her face, but get off to the side, let her walk by you. Late season routine, that that gobbler's gonna follow right behind her, and so just don't bust her. If you bust her, the deal is usually done. But uh, if you can let her walk on by and you got a gobbler that's looking for love following her, game on. And uh so the routine doesn't change much. These drizzly rainy days are actually pretty good. And that's what we got next next several days, I think, rain in the forecast. But I've still got a tag. I'm gonna get out and hit it one more time or two. We'll see. Uh busy weekend here for our local students. Uh graduation weekend coming up, so a lot of stuff going on Saturday. Weddings and graduation, man, all the crazy stuff of late May. It's on this weekend, but I'm gonna find some time to slip in there somewhere and uh see if I can't make one last hoorah on these gobblers here in West Tennessee. And uh we'll see what we can get into. But I am, I'm definitely the switch is flipping to uh you know, flipping ahead to fall. The end of turkey season comes, and also now I'm I'm thinking about things I I see in the woods, and I'm more distracted by things that take me to fall. You know what I'm saying? I'm I'm I'm having deer pictures pop up and these velvet, uh excuse me, these young bucks are starting to, you know, grow these horns back, and you're seeing the velvet butt, you know, the the velvet uh nubs turning into some more tines, and and just it's it's getting that time where it's like, hey, you know, feeling the itch a little more, thinking and excited less about turkeys, more about deer, and then um, like I said, sign C, uh scouting effort out there when I'm turkey hunting out, starting turning at deer scouting, and so all the stuff, flipping the switch towards fall. And then, you know, to make matters worse, things to get you focused on fall and things that'll make you buzz blow right past turkey finales and fishing and bow fishing and and all the stuff of summer make you start thinking about fall. Uh, I got this this Matthews Ark bow comes in. UPS Man dropped off this uh Matthews Arc bow, compound bow. And uh and I really haven't thought much about new bows, and uh honestly this year, you know, one of my thoughts is I'm gonna get back into that longbow. I've got several recurves, but my centaur longbow, I've been swore last year I was gonna have one and never could get it done in time. But my thought really this year has been to get another longbow, centaur longbow from my buddy Jim Neves out in Montana, used to hunt with out there, and uh get him to build me another longbow. The one I had got smoked. You've probably heard the story several times, but uh left it in the car, smoked, limbs shattered, you know, broke and just buckled, and and just you can't do that, and uh got left in the heat of a car and killed it. Killed it. So I've I've been itching several years now to get get a new one, and I'm praying that this year I can make that work out, get a new longbow and hit the woods this fall, something fresh, something new. Uh do the longbow deal. But then Matthews Ark shows up and it's like, oh man, I gotta play with this new bow. And and so that too takes you right to fall. You start getting a new toy, getting a new bow in, getting some new gear, and then all of a sudden it's game on, and it's hard not to be thinking about fall and getting ready and prep season. And here we are at the end of May. That means June, July, and you know what happens in August, late August is the velvet hunt again. So I mean, just just uh we're sitting on you know three months away from deer season again, you know, velvet season, and so it's exciting. So I'm looking forward to this. Pulled this uh Matthews Arc out. I'm liking what I'm seeing. Some cool improvements. You know, I get people ask all the time, like, well, is it is it you really like your, you know, you like the new Matthews? Every year you have people ask, what do you think about the new Matthews? And I'm like, dude, it's been, you know, these last several years for Matthews, I mean, they've they've got it figured out. They have had it figured out for a long time. So a lot of the stuff you're seeing in in bows are not getting much faster. They're not getting much, you know, there's not a whole lot from the from the speed standpoint and the smoothness, they've they've got that figured out. But what you're seeing is all the hunter-friendly features built into these bows. And they've added some new things. Uh, the hoist method, um, what do they call it? That the connection system that used to be an add-on uh for hauling your bow up and you know uh straps and and uh hoist lines and all those different things. Used to be an add-on you could screw on to the back uh those limb pockets, and now that's built in. That's an awesome deal. You take your haul line, snap it on, you're ready to go. But uh redesign uh a new cam system that's allowed this bow to be faster, um, but without sacrificing the smoothness of that draw cycle and uh the performance and efficiency and everything. Sometimes, you know, you you so many of these companies like, man, we want to get a little bit fast, we want to get a little bit faster. Well, that comes with a harsh cam system. That means now you got this ridiculous draw cycle, and um Matthews is figuring out, hey, we can make this thing, I don't know, five to seven feet faster, but yet have a maintain a smooth draw cycle, and they're just doing it with this new um cam system that's got a uh weighted system again, like kind of like what we used to see before, but um just a new slick design, and I'm ready to play with it a little bit and get out there, and I've got the 30, uh, so the shorter version of it. I think it's a 30 and a 30, I don't know if it's 33 or 34, what they did on it this year. But Matthews Arc, y'all go check it out at Matthews Inc.com. Um, always good stuff. And I've got it in bottom land, cool camo pattern, super slick stuff they've been doing the last few years in that bottom land, and it just looks so sharp. And uh so looking forward to playing with that. And again, that's what usually gets me. Turkey season starts wrapping up, and I start shooting a bow again. I I do take I mean I'll shoot, try to shoot year round, obviously. I like to shoot year round. I enjoy shooting, so it's not a matter of man, I gotta get out there and shoot and get ready for hunting season. I try to shoot year round, but I have taken a break this spring, turkey season, hadn't messed with it at all. So I'm looking forward to getting out, getting this bow set up, and then like I said, I w really want to get the trad bow thing. Back in the group. I've got some, like I said, recurve bows that are cool. I've got some uh bear recurve, and I've got a Bob Lee that I've I've towed for for years. But man, something about that longbow, the simplicity of it, and just I don't know. It's hard to beat. I love the performance and efficiency of a longbow. Jim's particularly, you're not sacrificing with his. A lot of folks go from recurve to longbow, like, man, I'm really dropping off here, but not with his, man. They are incredibly slick trad bows. And so I'm really digging the idea of getting that back in my hands this fall and doing some hunting up close, up personal. And for me, I've got to have them tight. I mean, have them tight. I'm not talking slinging 25, 30 yard shots with that long, but I'm talking, give me some eight-yard shots. You know what I'm saying? 10 right there in the business. And man, I love that stuff. That to me is where it's at. And so looking forward to that. Let's talk posted stuff this week. Uh, we've got one that I saw pop up and can't pass on it. So let's let's jump into that. Your posted segment of the week. All right. This one here is uh this one here is a little closer to home, a little personal, because this is somebody I do know. It's not just some crazy, uh crazy stuff. I mean, we've been seeing different bear attacks. I've seen some of those. Um the grizzlies seem to be hungry out west. I mean, there's been several uh grizzly bear attacks, and and those, I mean, uh nothing against those, you know. I mean, we've brought a bunch of them and had some in the hopper to bring, uh, but they happen so often, you know. And again, not trying to minimize anybody's lives. Not that that's a big deal. We may share with some of those later on, but I know there's some grizzly bear attacks, and that's kind of a lot of the stuff that catches your attention this time of year. But with that said, um the one that got my attention this week is actually from an old boy down further south, Parker McDonald. You guys probably uh, if you followed any of the stuff out there, here he is. Yeah, let me find it here. Sorry about the noise. Uh this is his post, and he's got little tunes to it. I'm gonna kill that though. Parker McDonald, you you you probably know him from I think he used to do uh what was it, Southern Ground, Southern Ground Hunting, maybe. Southern Ground Hunting, I don't know. It switched several times since you know then. They did Southern Ground, then they did the Southern Collective. I think it was called the Southern Collective, uh, a collaborative effort with several other guys. And he's been around a while doing the the YouTube thing, and I think he's since said goodbye to podcasting and even uh the collective effort with the YouTube and and now just back to his own stuff. I think it's just under his own name, Parker McDonald. But he, you know, first kind of came on the scene, I think was doing the kayaking deal, and uh, and that that related to me because I could, you know, I've done the same. Uh, you know, I do the kayak hunting and got some spots I use and rely on kayaks and uh boat into a lot of spots, and so that was kind of his jam. That's kind of something I thought, that's cool. He's doing a lot of stuff I do, uh relatable stuff. I like it. Uh good Christian dude, used to lead worship at a church and uh kind of struck out on his own, doing his own stuff for the outdoor industry and some web design and graphic design and and all that good stuff. But he's a different guy because he's I know he's kind of uh I don't want to say different because of his tattoos, because I mean a lot of us have got tattoos. I mean, um I don't I'm not I say a lot of us got tattoos, I don't know about I got a tattoo. Uh but he's got the tattoos and he had the earrings and and just kind of your not your typical um not your typical southern redneck of traditions, you know, of the past, right? You know, your good old boy, a country boy that we, you know, the world likes to uh I guess the non-hunting or anti-hunting world, you know, likes to throw it back in the redneck, just a country boy, whatever. And and Parker's kind of a different, you know, brings a different little flavor to the table as far as that goes. And he's got, like I said, he's got the tattoos and earrings, and that in and of itself not a big deal. But it but he popped up here in I don't know, last several years, and he's got this. He's got a nose ring. All right, he's got a nose ring. No big deal. You know what I'm saying? Now listen, I uh nose ringing ain't my thing. I'm just gonna say it right now, nose ring ain't my thing, but that's why I I don't have one and it's not my thing. But I'm not the guy that's like, dude, nose ring ain't my thing. That shouldn't be your thing either. You know what I'm saying? And and this recent post he made, he's just got a bunch of uh bunch of comments that he's kind of just made a month, uh a little collage of a lot of the the comments because he had, you know, I don't know if he had a video or he posted a picture or whatever it was of him just chilling around the truck, uh, turkey camp, got a turkey hanging up on the truck or whatever. And man, the haters came out strong, as you can imagine. Now listen, like I said, nose ring ain't my thing for me. You know what I'm saying? I think maybe it's cute on a girl. I've seen some girls that, you know, that's a cute little nose ring you got there, whatever. And maybe, maybe his wife digs his, you know, I don't know why he he chose to do that, but that's that's his deal. Maybe he likes the way it looks on him, maybe his boo, his sweet thing, maybe she digs that. Maybe she thinks, hey, boy, when you wear that nose ring, son, come on over here. You know what I'm saying? Maybe that's what that what works for her, maybe that's the cute thing for her, whatever it is, that's their business. That's their thing. Like I said, maybe he just thinks it looks good. You know what I'm saying? Why do you wear them tennis shoes? Well, I like these. I think they look cool. You know, why do you wear that shirt? Why do you wear that hat? Well, I like it. I feel like it may, you know, I kind of like the way it looks on me. Why you got that nose ring? Well, I kind of like it. I like the way it looks on me. It's something different. It's it's outside the box. I'm kind of starting my own thing. My wife likes the way this looks on me. You know what I'm saying? It's it's his deal. And it's it's it's his deal, and and and who cares really? You know what I'm saying? Who really cares? Well, when you say who cares, evidently some people care because they they throw these comments out there. So I'm gonna I'm gonna just go through. Again, there's a picture he's got posted. You can go check it out. Parker McDonald on Facebook is where this is. But let me see if I can play it. Again, I'm gonna try to keep the music off here because it's it's loud and and all that. But first off, let me go, let me just kind of read through some of these comments because the comments, and then we'll go back to uh or excuse me, I'm gonna read the comments that he's got posted on this little collage with his picture, and then we'll go back to some comments that people are making about this post he made. Okay. Uh first it says it's truly fascinating how many hunters like to give unsolicited fashion advice. Uh, and I know he's he's dealt with this before. And again, you know, devil's advocate here, when you when you do something outside the norm and you go to an industry where most people, most guys, the redneck world that, you know, doesn't have a nose ring, uh, and you and you you guise that out front and center, I get it. You're opening yourself up to, you know, you're subjecting yourself to some some critics and hate, and that's what people do on social media on these days, and that's why it's such a you know, that's what I hate the most about it. And so you can expect some of that coming back, and he's he's had some of those conversations before, you know, just fascinated by the fact that that grown men would comment. Um, it's kind of like what women would do, right? You know, like, oh, I hate your dress. I hate the ooh, I think your hair looks stupid, you know, whatever. You don't expect that out of men, but apparently the nose ring brings it out of guys. But anyway, he's got uh some of these comments that people have posted in regards to his nose ring through various social media exchanges. Um let's see, this one says nose ring. You should be you you let's see, no, I can't even see what that one is. Um nose ring, you should get a ticket. Like be ticketed for having a nose ring. Uh another guy says, How does it feel to be a dad? And at one time you had earrings in your ears, and what looks like uh uh your nose too. Hope your boy has better discussion making. Okay. Now this is what gets me, and I think it's kind of entertaining here, is these guys are hating, and it's kind of like, man, if you're gonna hate on somebody and make some little wise crack about somebody, you might want to reread your post or reread your comment. He says, Hope your boy has better discussion making. I think he was aiming for better decision making, but he posted and and and went live with I hope your son, I hope your boy has better discussion making. Discussion making. Okay. I hope your boy has better discussion making, Parker. Uh not decision making, but discussion making. So again, man, if you're gonna bust these, you know, bust these cracks out, you better make sure you got your stuff together. How does it feel to be a dad and at one time, oh this is the same guy posted twice, okay. This dude has a boyfriend and he has a nose ring too. Okay, so everybody wants to get on the gay thing, right? Like you're gay, you got a nose ring, you're gay. Uh, I guess that's kind of the angle they're taking it. Uh get your husband to take the boy next weekend. Mm, they get nasty now. Uh good spot to rest that gay nose ring. Just sit there around your turkey. Uh I've seen a lot of stupid stuff. Let's just say stuff. They don't have stuff, but I've seen a lot of stupid stuff before, but this takes the cake. The noise ring says it all. How about try hunting? And here we go. Here's another one. Uh trying to say nose ring, calls it the noise ring, says it all. And um he says, How about try hunting? And it's like, dude, you're you're hating on this guy. How about try hunting? And he's literally got a dead turkey here on the you know, the picture they're hating on, I assume, is this one here. And he's got a dead turkey, dead long beard, hanging from the truck. He's chilling in camp. I'd say he's tried hunting. You know what I'm saying? He tried successfully, and he's got a dead turkey. And so you're going, why are you gonna post, how about try hunting? He did. He killed a bird. Let's move on. You know what I'm saying? These comments are so dumb, and and people, I think, just don't think. They they're they're mad about something. They don't like a nose ring in a dude, and so it just it elicits this response and they they go stupid. To the point they can't even type correctly. The noise ring, not a nose ring, the noise ring says it all. How about try hunting? Yeah, he got you. Get that noise ring out, Parker. What the heck? And then the last one here says, Well done, ma'am. And uh that one's kind of funny, actually. Well done, ma'am. He gives him the little again. I I I think uh everybody wants to hate, call him gay, call him, you know, you're some kind of woman wearing this nose ring. And yes, most times you see a nose ring, it's on a woman. Maybe maybe Parker's trying to start at something new here. Who cares? Regardless. You know what I'm saying? Why are we gonna police that? Why are we gonna say, dude, you as a man can't wear that, whatever? Do your own thing, man. Do your, you know, why are we worried about what he does? You know what I'm saying? Take care of your own face, your own nose, your own ears, your own kids, your own family. And and it's kind of like, man, mind your own business. You know what I'm saying? Mind your own business. Hank Hank Williams said it, right? Mind your own business and you won't be mind and mine. Right? You heard that song before? Mind your own business and you won't be mind and mind. That's so good. That's some deep thoughts by old Hank. And and And it's so true. It was true then, it's true now, and and if we can just take care of our own selves and we we won't have to worry about everybody else. Again, nose ring ain't for me. You ain't gonna see Brody Swisher wearing a nose ring, and and you know, I I don't really care to see my boys wearing a nose ring. But I also I don't I don't have tattoos all over my arms, and uh, you know, if that's your thing, go for it. You know, it's just not what I do, it's not what I've done as of yet. You know, maybe I'll add another tattoo one of these days, you know. But that again, that's that's kind of my business, my deal. You do your thing. And if you're doing it for the right reason, you're doing it because it's what you want to do, go for it. You know what I'm saying? If it's not something against what God's called you to do, and and of course I know people get on to tattoos and marking their body and they'll get into biblical stuff about that. Don't do those because those are of the devil, and I'm not getting into all that. I don't, I don't, you know. There's a lot of cultural things back in the day, you know, whatever that we've left, and you know, I don't know. You know, I'm not getting into all that stuff, but as long as it's not direct opposition to God's word for today and and living for God today, man, get off, get off people's back, you know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? Get off. Man, just quit wearing it. Mind your own business and you won't be minding Parker's business or my business or anything else. And dude wants to wear a nose ring, go for it. You know? He thinks he looks sexy, maybe his wife thinks he looks sexy, I I don't know. It ain't sexy to me, but that's my not that's not my deal. You know what I'm saying? It ain't mine, I ain't got it, ain't gotta worry about it. So, crazy stuff. But I do like the comments. The uh the comments on people jumping back for Parker. That's what's kind of fun. Let me see if I can find some of those, because those are pretty good. Some of his buddies that uh saw these and and commented back. Let me just see if I can find some of those. Umbe you should make a little keychain clip to hang a mouth call from your nose ring. Okay. Still getting the comments here, they're getting he's getting some more love, but he's also getting some hate here, too. Uh I think you need me to get in your social media and have at them. At least we can introduce Jesus in a very southern Christian way. I gotcha. Uh Ain't never met here. Joey Bell says, Ain't never met a hater doing better than me. And that's so true, right? Most of these people that you see hating, they're hurting. They're hurting and they're hating. And they're hating because they're hurting. And they can't get it done. They are unsuccessful, and so they want to rip into somebody that is doing well. You know what I'm saying? I I don't know how many turkeys Parker's killed, but he's killed several birds this year. He's doing a, you know, having a good season. One bird, five birds, whatever it is. He's had a good year and he's doing his thing. But I guarantee you some of these guys that are making all these cracks and and making all these hateful comments, I guarantee a lot of them ain't killed Jack. They've had a lousy turkey season, he ain't killed nothing, and so that's why they see some like, man, you know what? I'm jealous that he's killed turkeys, and I'm I'm gonna take it out, and I'm gonna, okay, here's a good angle. I'm gonna make fun of his appearance. I'm gonna make fun of the way he dresses, I'm gonna make fun of his family, I'm gonna make fun of that nose ring he's got hanging there. And it's just an open door for them to jump on and hate. Um, and that's usually what it is. Um This one here says, I marvel at the sheer originality of this dude has a boyfriend and has a no let's see. I marvel at the sheer originality of this dude of comp quote, this dude has a boyfriend and he has a nose ring too. You know, old boy left that comment and thought that'll show him. And uh that was Brad Steele, and he's just talking about you know, these stupid comments, like we said a minute ago. These guys like, oh, he's got a boyfriend and a nose ring too. Like, man, what what what are we what are we doing? What are we saying? Uh Chris Owen says they're jealous, bro. Keep going. Um And that's it. Again to the point, you know. Um Andrew says, You are the guy that people love to hate LOL. Um, and you know, again, people do that. You know, people have people that they just love to hate on. And again, it's usually those successful ones. And um, you know, here's Teresa say, Real men know how to spell. Hating on these guys that are posting these comments and can't spell the most basic words, real men know how to spell. Um anyway, man, it's a crazy world we live in today, and social media stinks, and uh, it's a great marketing tool, it's a great way to keep in touch with folks, but man, it's just I hate it. I hate the fact that it's got people doing stupid things, crazy stuff, saying things that don't need to be said, and it's made a lot of guys feel like they're big boys when when they're not. They're little boys that know that they wouldn't have the cojones to go say it to somebody else's face, but they'll sit there and type it out on the computer. And it's the way the world works here in 2026. But uh anyway, just a quick uh post-it segment there, not so quick post-it segment, but I just saw that earlier and I thought, you know, it's kind of sad when we have that kind of mess going on. People want to hate on something as silly as this. Parker getting some hate, but uh go check out his stuff though, Parker McDonald on Instagram and Facebook and YouTube. Got some good hunts, always got some good content there. Hey, here's a quick word for the day. Listen to it as we wrap up. Galatians 5.16 says, So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. Let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. If we can do that, if we'll commit to doing that, hey, let's let the Holy Spirit guide you. Let the Holy Spirit guide me today. And I pray that this this that prayer this morning is, Lord, Holy Spirit, just let the Holy Spirit guide me. And a lot of us think it, you know, they we we confuse the Holy Spirit with that little devil or the little angel on our shoulders, and the devil saying one thing, and the angel saying the other thing. That's that Holy Spirit, though. No, that's that Holy Spirit saying, Hey, don't you do that. Don't you go there, don't you flip through there, don't you scroll onto that, or don't you linger on that. When you do see, you know, the stuff we see, uh, be it on our phones, on our TVs, when we're out in public, the things we allow our minds to think about and linger on, uh, the things we want to say that we don't need to say. I preached that a couple weeks ago at church, just talking about the things that, man, you know you don't need to say it, but you let yourself say it. Let the Holy Spirit guide you and take you away from those things you know you ought not to do. Let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. Our sinful nature craves bad stuff, right? It's it's always looking, desiring, seeking, chasing after, craving bad stuff. And if we live ourselves up and let our own selves, you know, go with your heart, go with your gut. Um all the crap that we tell ourselves it sounds good, you know, the counselor might tell you that, or the world might tell you that, or one of them little memes somebody posts out there might say, hey, follow your heart. Go with your gut. No, those things will get you in trouble. Those things will get you derailed, those things will get you down a slippery slope. And so don't follow your heart. Don't go with your gut. You let the Holy Spirit guide your life today, and that's the good stuff. And so just want to encourage you that with that this week. And uh just encourage you, man, take this podcast, share it with some folks this week, tell your friends, your family about it, bring them back here. And as we always say, chase him with all your heart, soul, and strength, and we'll see you right back here next time. Shoot straight. God bless.
