Here we go, Roland. Once again, welcome back to the Hunting Roots Podcast. I'm Brody Swisher. Beside me, Rimbo shaking his head. You hate that intro, don't you?
SPEAKER_00I hate that intro.
SPEAKER_01You hate it when we say Roland or hey guy. I should have just done an old Luke Stevens. Yeah. Hey guys. Who's Luke Stevens?
SPEAKER_00He is our good buddy.
SPEAKER_01Our buddy, and he it was the salutatorian at this past week's graduation for Henry County High School. Salutatorian and several other people started their speeches like, Good evening. One girl's like, Good evening, blah, blah, blah. Nice and sweet. And he goes up there and he's like, What's up, guys? And uh big boom and voice. But he did an awesome job. Best speech by far. There were some good ones. But I love the fact that he he just flat out told about the Lord, and that was good stuff. And uh, but that's how he started. What's up, guys? Uh so that was our intro this week. What's up, guys? Welcome back to the Hunting Roots Podcast. This podcast is brought to you by our good friends at OnexHunt. Onexmaps.com is the website where you can find it. Get it in your phone, check out the app store, make it easy, get on there, load it up. Your your son's, your daughters, whoever's got a phone needs this app, so go check it out. Onexmaps.com. Also, big thanks to the crew at Mossy Oak. Mossy Oak.com is the website there. I was just perusing earlier today looking for some more caps, headwear. You don't need another hat. Does anybody in our family need another hat?
SPEAKER_00Easton. No. Easton needs another hat. He doesn't have enough. I don't need any more hats unless they're really cool.
SPEAKER_01I don't think anybody You don't need any more hats.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I'm looking behind you at this little um I don't even know what you call it.
SPEAKER_01It's kind of a it's a little camouflage locker.
SPEAKER_00Camouflage locker, and on top of it, it's just like a piles of stupid, ridiculously stupid pile of hats up there.
SPEAKER_01And yeah, I just need to go through them. And it's kind of like what do you do? You got hunting roots hats and moss yoke hats, and I I don't know. You hate to throw any more. I guess we're just starting giving away, selling them again, whatever. Bunches and bunches. But I was digging through, back to my point. I was digging through uh Mossy Oak website because they've got this one that I really am digging, and I mean I've got one, but I'm gonna buy the the other style, or not the other style, but the other print of it. I've got the Mossy Oak. It's their newest one, it's kind of the old. I just can't even remember what it is. It's the old vintage style cap, big pointed top cap, and um, and it just fits my big noggin, big fat head I got, and so I need to get some more of those, but there's a difference between wanting more hats and needing more hats, and sometimes you just want them. Check them out at mossyoak.com. This is episode 244, I believe it is, Rimbo, and we're gonna have a good one this time. We're talking about a couple things. Uh it just kind of came about, I guess, so to speak. Um we'll talk fishing for a minute, but that segues right because we we were fishing last night. We're not gonna talk fishing. I mean, don't get me wrong. This is not a gonna be a fishing episode, but we did fish last night with our students. Um, working with students at Maplewood Baptist Church nowadays, and uh working with those guys, the youth group there, and man, it was this was our first Wednesday to kick off the summer break, and so we thought, what better way to kick off summer than with a fishing trip? And so our Wednesday night was just that. We had a Bible study at the pond and had a big time. Uh, did you catch any fish at all, Remy? I like caught two small ones. Two small what's funny is I I kind of was like, hey, Remy's gonna be our you know, coach, guide, professional. Hey, I will teach you how to do it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I was bass fishing for like half the time, and I wasn't catching any. I could have been using a really too small bait, or like I had this really big crankbait that was like supposed to they call it like a baby bullgill and it's a bluegill, like but they like the people who call it uh like they call it a baby bullgill, and it's really big, so it might have been too big for this pond. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01But I know somebody that caught a nice bass.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, um my friend Warren, he caught a like I think three-ish pounds. Dude, it's gotten bigger every time.
SPEAKER_01First time I heard it was two pounds, then it was two and a half. Now we're up to three. But I like it. That's great. That's how fishing stories go.
SPEAKER_00The dude was like uh it's either two or three pounds. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01The ball cement, the owner of the Yeah, yeah. And he he probably knows. So that was cool. Uh good time. But what was cool to me, you know, I think a lot of you guys that have fished uh, you know, a pretty good bit. Y'all just, you know, you caught a few. You were helping a lot of folks, and so I appreciate that. You were helping your buddies, and but what was cool is the number of people that had never fished before. Students that had never fished. I heard several of them. I know Ryan's like, man, that was my first time fishing. I loved it. Uh another boy was just like, I think he acted like he had been some, maybe maybe acted like it was his first time, wasn't his first time, or maybe he'd gone before in the past as a little kid or something. But it was evident that he'd never, you know, done much. And just to watch them come to life and watch them see the excitement of a bobber dropping and uh that's just cool to me. And so, yeah, that's a lot of fun. So it was cool to see the number of newbies, some rookies, first timers, get out there and just fall in love with fishing. And I just I just think I I've said it a million times, I mean, it ought to be a crime for any kid to get to his teenage years or her teenage years or just anybody, get some years on them and not having ever had the opportunity to fish. And I just think that's standard stuff. We've said it before BB guns and fishing, those are two things. Those are like, you know, you gotta do it. Gotta do it. You know what I'm saying? You gotta have that experience. We gotta be giving those kids the opportunity. And so last night was that. So really good time. I think big fish was two and a half, or now three pounds.
SPEAKER_00Ah, yeah. Um so we had this trophy, and it was for we had this really old trophy that was like 1998.
SPEAKER_01Whoa, whoa, whoa. So you're calling really old 1998?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Dude, it was probably our older than that. Or did it say that on the No, it said that on the thing. The old plaque said that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and so we got the trophy out, and so every time when we go fishing, and it's like really big.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like a three-footer.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and every time we go fishing, we're gonna have that trophy for the people who um gets the biggest uh fish and Warren got it.
SPEAKER_01Big trophy for the big fish, and then we had a little tiny cup, little plastic trophy cup for small fish.
SPEAKER_00I think Choncho got it, and he like was able to put his fish in the cup.
SPEAKER_01Inside the cup, yeah, that was fun. Uh so it was a good time. And so, yeah, we got this vintage vintage trophy. I I thought it was more vintage than 1998, and you think that's vintage, but it's the old school trophy, man, and it's a fishing trophy. We picked up all these trophies from some lady that was dumping them. She was trying to sell them on marketplace, and I told him, I said, I need those for for trophies for when we go fishing with the students, and she's like, You can have them, come get them. And so I don't know where the rest of them are. I feel like we got the shed. Yeah, but this is a big one, and so we're doing a anyway. War dog Warren, Warren Foster, he was the big fish champion of the night. I think Hayes, Haysberry, I think, caught the most fish.
SPEAKER_00Him or Choncho?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Choncho caught a bunch too, and then Choncho was a small fish champion of the night. So good times uh with that, and uh it's just good. It's uh it's it's cool to see people hit it for the first time. I love it. I love it. And then you got guys that come out there with all their stuff that, you know, you got your Aidens and your Luke and several of those guys that come out there and they're like, Man, I I know what I'm doing. You know what I'm saying? They bring out the tackle box and the all the stuff. They got the product that they've been watching the bass fishing dudes use, and they pull out the stuff, and I mean they're just loading up. And I I don't think they ever produce much.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, Aiden, I think he caught the first fish.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, a pound and a half crappies. He caught the nice big crappie.
SPEAKER_00Um, but I was looking through his tackle box and all of it was just like shiny new, and then he had like one bait that was like a m rat. Ooh. It was like a rat, and I pulled it out and he he was just laughing about it. And I've never seen a fish bait that was a rat.
SPEAKER_01I don't know, man. The the I'm I'm not, as you know, Rimbo, I'm not a I'm not a bass fisherman. I'm not really a avid, I love to fish. We go uh, you know, once a week at this time of year, you know, we're pond fishing guys. You know what I'm saying? We're not big bass boat, all the latest and greatest fishing gear. I don't know. You know, I don't even know what it is. I'm old school doing the same stuff. My dad taught me when I was a little kid he wasn't even a big fisherman, you know, just just get by, but I love to fish and my family, that's something we all, everybody in the family likes to fish, even mamas. So that's something we enjoy. But I don't know the latest trends, I don't know the latest. I these boys pulling out this stuff last night, like you're talking about rats and frogs and I mean frogs been around forever, but just the the nature of stuff they've got now. I was watching some commercial, I saw it on social media the other day, Facebook or Instagram or something, and it was it was this thing, it looked like a cuckaburr. It was like this little ball of spiky things going all over the place, like some kind of you know, planet or something. It was just like this, I don't know how to even describe it, um this little ball with spikes, little spikes going all over the place. And they were, I mean, fish big old bass come up and swallowed it, you know. I mean, it's just crazy the stuff they've got now. But but these boys had it.
SPEAKER_00They uh at Walmart I just saw like they had like a big spider bait.
SPEAKER_01Spider bait, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I kind of want one of those just to like prank mom with, but that'd be fun.
SPEAKER_01But here's one of the things, the point is, I mean, all this stuff's so expensive. Used to be, I feel like you go and buy you know three dollars, you could buy your crankbait or you know, maybe five dollars for a good one or something, but now it's like ten bucks, fifty, twenty bucks for some of these lures, and it's like holy smokes. Uh the game has changed for the lures that pull that fish from their hiding spots. Pretty crazy.
SPEAKER_00I went to like uh one place and looking for sinkers and stuff. Yeah. Just because I was out and I had just all bunch of small ones, so I needed some bigger ones, and it I got I looked at the one, it's like a circular type thing where you can like twist it into different like sizes. Yeah. And it was like thirty dollars for it.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's the nature of everything these days. Prices have gone up, so I mean I understand that I get it, but it's just rude awakening when you realize, hey, I need some new fishing gear, and then go out of there $200 later, you come out with some basics. But those boys had the stuff, it was pretty impressive. But the question is, did that help them? You know what I'm saying? The boys had all the best gear, but did it help them? Not so much, right? You know, and that's I I often wonder about those guys. You know, they not those particular guys, but just those guys that always have the best stuff. They're always which switching their stuff up. And you know, that goes for hunting gear, it goes for fishing gear, but like we saw, I mean, somebody shows up with the best pole, they spent hundreds of dollars on a rod and reel. They've got this tackle box full of you know thousands of dollars worth of you know stuff. Did it help them produce fish? No, I mean not really. We saw Aiden caught a he caught a nice crappie, but those boys with all their fancy tackle, what was it that was catching fish?
SPEAKER_00What?
SPEAKER_01What was it that was catching the fish last night? What lure was doing it? It was worms. Well, you're saying a lure, it's more of a worm, not even like a it's a lure because we're lure the fish to eat it and come get bite the hook, whatever you want to call it, bait, lure, anything. Forget about all that high dollar stuff. I mean, last night the worms. It was the worms. And not just worms, it was worms from like three weeks ago. How long have them jumbo wigglers been in the fridge?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they the problem with new people though, like fit people that have never really fished before is they still don't know how to like that you cut the worm in half instead of just taking the whole thing. Yeah. And so most of our worms were gone really fast.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they were trying to put a five-inch worm on a little dinker deal, and yeah, we kind of messed up there. But the bottom line, I'm the point I'm making is that you can have all that good high dollar gear, but the worms was where it was at. That was what was working. Catching the fish, old school tried and true. You know, I kept having some of the students come up to me, oh, look at this, man. I got this crankbait, or look at this little minnow bait and all this stuff. I'm like, dude, you want to catch a fish? Put the stinking worm on. Bring me a hook and put a worm on. And then bam, that bobber was dropping. It was fun. And I know some people want bass fish, and I get it. That's all good, but um it was fun. But it was a reminder of just that having the best gear. So many people want that. And I'm I'm guilty of that too. I want the best gear, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You want the best gear, you've got a bow that you've had, you've got the little mission, uh, the mission hammer bow, and it's a good bow. It's it's fine, nothing wrong with it. It's not in here, is it? Hanging up. No. No. There's looking at the every bow in here but that. But you've got the little mission hammer, but what bow do you want?
SPEAKER_00I want the arc.
SPEAKER_01You want a Matthews Ark, which mission is a brand of Matthews, but you want to you don't want that that sister brand. You want to jump right to the big dad. You want to go to Matthews, you want the Matthews Lift, the Lift X, and now it's the Ark. And you want you want the best of the best, and I'm the same way. I don't if I get into something, I want the best of the best. Uh I I want I want you know, yeah, you can buy the entry-level stuff, but man, why not go go bigger, go home? You know what I'm saying? Give me the big So I don't know, we'll see. You've been wanting the Matthews Arc, but I'm like, or you've been wanting Matthews, and I'm like every year I'm like, dude, you gotta get your first one with this equipment. If you stick with it, get you one with that, and then we'll move up, we'll see. I mean, 'cause I mean heck, that's a thousand dollar bow or or better, so we'll see. But I'm gonna go.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's a pretty good bow, but uh of course I just want a better one.
SPEAKER_01I know, I know. You've uh you need to get out there shooting, it's that time too. I I thought about that the other day. I did finally get that that Matthews Ark in, and I need to get it set up, get out there shooting it. We'll see. But you need to be shooting because I mean you think about it, man. We're just months away from Velvet Hunt, and it's gonna be right here again, and so you need to be you've grown a lot. I'm excited to see. Um what you do this year. I think this is gonna be the year. We've said it a couple years now, and it's been fun to watch your journey to kill your first deer with a bow, you know, a real bow, not a crossbow. But um I think this is your year. You've grown, you'll be able to pull more weight back this year, get that speed up on your arrow, so it's not you know, not having the same deal every year that that deer is gone when your arrow gets there or whatever. But um anyway, bottom line, like we talk about, I I think it's an interesting conversation. The fact we're always wanting better gear. We want the best gear. But what are you willing to do to get the best gear? And do you stick with that? Let's talk about brand loyalty for a second. Brand loyalty, I don't know if you know what that means, but loyalty to the brand.
SPEAKER_00Are you stick with your brand?
SPEAKER_01Stick with your brand. How many people you know they're like, hey, I'm shooting, I'm shooting this bow this year, and it's the best bow out there. And then the next year, what? Somebody gives them a different bow, they get more money, uh, or a sponsor gig, or somebody, you know, they've had this bow, they say they love it, but then all of a sudden here comes somebody, gives them a free bow of this, and then and then all of a sudden it's it's they jump to the next brand.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I know somebody like that, but I'm not gonna name any names.
SPEAKER_01No, I don't name any names, but I mean, uh there's those people, you know, at our local level friends we know that just hop to one thing to the next, and there's no brand loyalty. But you see it, you know, obviously mostly in the folks that are sponsored. You know, they they get a sponsor one year, and then the next year it's a different sponsor. We got a buddy that uh local buddy, and he shoots some videos with uh with the little production thing, and and every year it seems like they got a new sponsor. And so what's crazy about it is the new sponsor comes out, and then last year they're talking about one particular bow, like, hey, we're shooting the whatever, whatever bow. It's the best bow on the market. You can't beat this bow. And then the next year comes around and they've blown that sponsorship. The sponsorship ran out, and then the next year at the new bow, hey, this year we're shooting the new 2025, blah, blah, blah. And it's the baddest bow on the market. It's the best bow I've ever shot. And I look at that, and then, you know, we've seen it before. We always get, you know, giving crap to Pigman because I think like Pigman used to do that show, and he may still do. I don't ever watch it, but I remember for like three or four years straight, he had a different bow sponsor. And every year is like, man, it's the baddest bow idea. You know, I'm like, dude, you said that about Hoyt, you said that about Bear, you said that about PSE, and it's just boom, boom, boom. I don't know what was going on there, but different bow every year.
SPEAKER_00It's kind of like the same thing with broadheads, too.
SPEAKER_01Different broadheads, yeah. You know, bottom line, people will tell you anything for the sake of getting free stuff. And I mean, I'm just thinking, where does your loyalty lie? You know what I'm saying? Do you have loyalty to your brands? I'm just curious about you know what you guys think. Or will you just shoot whatever somebody gives you for free? You know what I'm saying? I'd rather buy. Yes, I've gotten plenty of, you know, working in the hunting industry over the years, I've gotten plenty of gear. Um, it's been nice not to have to purchase stuff and and it's all good. Uh when it comes to hunting gear, you can you know get the gear I need just to we're doing reviews and you know, just I get my hands on a lot of hunting gear, and um, but I I still find the stuff I like, you know what I'm saying? I've gotten to the place where, and I've been there before, man. There was times where I was like, hey, this is the good stuff, this is the product you need because somebody who hooked me up or you know, whatever it was, and you know, and there's differences in doing reviews and different, you know, sponsorships and all the different things, uh, what you're talking about and the products you're using and what you're telling, and all that stuff. I get it. You know what I'm saying? Money talk, somebody sponsoring you, you gotta say, you know, whatever. Um, but the products you you actually lose. Uh we've said it a million times on X. I mean, um, man, I've used their product from back in the day. You know, I use the product. I've I've used it, uh, used it before we became friends with them and before we became partners with them, was using it, and I'll I'll use it long after, you know what I'm saying? Um just because I believe in it, it's a good one. Um, and I I've used it from the get-go. Matthews, uh, another one. Uh I bought my first Matthews back in uh '99 or 2000. And uh love the bow. Bought several bows, you know, after that. I was like, man, I'm buying this next one. I'm buying this next one. I, you know, love the Matthews bow. I think there was a time in there where we were working, and um, I was doing a column or a uh something for a website, and they were sponsored by Botec, and uh, they got Botech, and I remember being heartbroken. I was like, what in the war? Botec, I've got to shoot a BoTech. Now, Botech's a great bow. They make a great bow, good stuff, they're very innovative, good engineering.
SPEAKER_00But I just remember like But it's just not Matthews.
SPEAKER_01I felt like I cheated on my girlfriend or cheated on my wife, you know, like I've got to shoot this other bow. And and I, you know, anyway, um that was a short period of time when we were living in Montana. But I mean, um I I just love a Matthews bow. I don't think they've um got anybody that's since they've been doing things right for a long time, decades now. I mean, they've been at the top of the pack, and there's other brands out there that are good, lots of good brands. I mean, everybody makes a good bow these days, but like you just said, I go back and and I got my come back to my man it's just not, you know, oh it shoots good, it's just but it's just not it's not as smooth as a Matthews. Um and so I that's a that's a bow I've stuck with for years. I love it and um continue to shoot it. Like I said, we'll shoot other bows, do different reviews, shoot other bows, try different things. Uh man, it's just been hard to beat that Matthews. Uh what are some other products we've stuck with that we've dug around and really liked for a long time? Um lacrosse boots, you know. We've tried different boots over the years, but you know what's on the porch out there is lacrosse boots. We we just wear them. They're they're hard to beat. Um you know, uh we've we've beaten them up for years and years, and will they fall apart? Yes. Will they leak? Yes. Well, you know, they're not guaranteed to be leak proof and not tear apart after years of use, but um man, they're just the boots that are comfortable. And the boots you can cross the ditch in, keep you dry, and I mean, um we've used those for a long time. Mossy oak, I mean Yeti. Yeti, yeah, yeti coolers. Um just stuff that we we've liked and have used for a long time. Like so I see Mossy Oak Camo hanging in here, and there's a pair I look right there at those coveralls. There's a pair of modern day coveralls on the left, and then on the right is a pair of coveralls from nineteen ninety young nineties. You know, that's the old and the new version right there, and um that's a article content coming, you know, in the mix, but I mean the old nostalgic pair that you know I've had forever versus the modern and new, man, it's still it's still the stuff we use. And uh I love that. The older I get, the more I'm uh you know a nostalgic dude and and love uh the old stuff but it's been cool man um talk about the Bose there's I mean there's the original Matthews I had the uh Q2 I think it was and uh back from 2000 and hanging on the wall so uh I just ask you guys listening our listeners are you do you have brand loyalty what is it I want you guys I want to hear from y'all let me know what you think the things you like the products you use the products you say man I'll use this brand a knife till the day I die I'll wear this hat till the day I die it's um you know whatever you whatever the gear is you you know a gun bow uh arrows broadheads what is the stuff that you use and or are you a sucker for jumping on the next bandwagon something pops up ooh I'll try that and I like to try new things but I've got the stuff that I like stuff that I use and um I like to stick with it I like to stick with it so I want to hear from you guys um what is it that you like that you use that you ain't switching regardless um that kind of gear. Alright switching gears here let's talk vehicles for a minute because I'm looking out the window here we've got uh kind of a a whole variety of cars we've got the old beater UConn XL kind of it's GMC's version of the suburban they've had that for a lot of years that's become a hunting truck then we've got this F-150 it's an old F-150 that's kind of my my vehicle or whoever's I mean but you know we we have everybody just drives everything in the in the out here in the parking lot at the house. It's an old I mean it's a 2004 2004 F-150 um so it's an older older rig but that's kind of my daily driver I guess so to speak I'm I mean I've drive that hunting truck a lot too just if I'm hunting or whatever but we've we've traded in mom's Tahoe much to several family members' chagrin we we traded in or not traded in we sold her Tahoe Gas Guzzler um and she just didn't you know she just I I think was ready to do something different and it seemed to be a thirsty vehicle. All these vehicles are the suburban F-150 I mean that's a very thirsty truck I mean it it's 10 or 12 miles a gallon thirsty I mean it's it's awful especially in times right now when gas prices are four bucks a pop um so traded in hers I keep saying trade in we sold her Tahoe and what did we get we got a Subaru Subaru Outback man and you watch all you flip through social media for a minute or just search Subaru and you'll see all kind of memes that are mean and ugly and what kind of people drive Subaru Outbacks what their preference is on love and romance I mean you you know again keeping it PG but people will say all kind of things about people that drive Subarus. Yeah but but I don't know hear me out I'm thinking that maybe Don't even say it maybe I know what I know what he's gonna say. What do you think I'm gonna say? Put a lift on it well yes put a lift on it I think you could put a lift on the Subaru hear me out put a little lift on the Subaru it's all wood drive could that be would that be the ultimate hunting big hunting rig, Remy? What do you think? Nope. Subaru outback with a lift on it just some all terrain tires it would that not be the ultimate hunting rig?
SPEAKER_00First of all I hate I would hate the lift on it um I don't think you can turn a Subaru type car into a hunting vehicle because that wouldn't look cool.
SPEAKER_01Totally disagree.
SPEAKER_00I think the ultimate hunting car in my opinion would be a big old Ford truck and get some mud tires on them.
SPEAKER_01You talk about what we got out there just put a lift on and some mud tires if F-150 but it's so thirsty man it's such a it's such a gas guzzler.
SPEAKER_00I don't know but if it's your hunting car it's not like it's your everyday car.
SPEAKER_01So you're not gonna be driving it every day that's true I guess I could see that point but I mean let's say you do want to drive we we've we're trying to line up some hunting trips we want to go to Texas we want to go to Oklahoma hog hunting we want to go So if you're going to Texas then you are probably going to get a uh rental car. I don't know I mean I mean I don't you know you go on a road trip and you say okay we're going to Texas for a week I don't want to rent a car for a week and uh and then being able to rent a car I mean what are you going to rent a pickup truck? I don't know. I'm just thinking that car that could be the truck that car truck that you go on a road trip and say hey we're gonna go down to Texas and hunt and we're gonna run up to Oklahoma and you're making the rounds you're not renting a car but you want your own I just think I like the fact that Subaru again I'm going back to practicality right now. Okay I get it a big old truck's great you got plenty of space you got the bed of the truck it's good but I'm just thinking about these little road trips where I'm gonna boogie down I'm going over to East Tennessee for this. I'm gonna run down to see the guys in Mississippi here and then I'm gonna swing over to you know Arkansas and then I'm gonna go to you know I'm just thinking about that car because man I've spent a fortune in gas this spring the gas prices are up so high and it's like you either don't go turkey hunting or you just keep shelling out the money at $4 a gallon and it's stupid gas prices. So that's where I started thinking hey what about downsizing what about buying a little vehicle that could be good. We were talking about the Toyota Camry Scott McFarlane said get a Toyota Camry put a lift on it and he sent me a picture of it oh dude is awesome. He sends this lifted uh I don't know if it was Camry or Honda or what it was but he had a lift on a little car a little sedan and dude it was awesome and he said a lift on a little car would just not look good. What if you wrap it in bottom land still I'm sorry. That's awesome. But uh where I mean Scott was saying you know he's got a I don't know if it's a Toyota I think it's a Toyota Camry maybe or maybe a Toyota Corolla. And uh they put a lift on it and he said even with those lifts and the bigger tires got some pretty big honking tires on it and it still didn't make much difference in the gas mileage. Still really good gas mileage even with the bigger tires. So then you got a you know you've got a little car that you're getting good gas mileage and you got some tires on if you need to get off road in the mud a little bit you're good. And that's my thing. How often are you getting because I mean I I got guys like man I want a big old four-wheel drive truck big old lift big old mud tires but I'm like how often are you getting off road? You know how often you need a truck to get all the way back into big mud holes you're going up these big mud trails and and you know stomping mud holes and all that stuff. I don't think you'd I mean I'm not doing that very often. Most of the time I pull up there just pull off the road at the gate I'm on gravel and then I I hoof it back in there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah there's some times where I drive across the field and stuff but again I think if you you know that's where that all-wheel drive Subaru comes in with a lift bottom land wrap and I think it'd be good so the lift I'm out um bottom land would be pretty cool if it was an actual like if the actual bottom land instead of a do-it-yourself type bottom land like I've seen that yeah I've seen that do-it-yourself bottom land from dad he spray painted a gun and it looks nothing like bottom land.
SPEAKER_01It's a little bit sketchy looking I get it um but would you say bottom land wrap on I say wrap bottom land paint job would you go for that on Subaru or are you talking about on a truck or something?
SPEAKER_00I think it'd look better on the truck.
SPEAKER_01But would you do it on Subaru? Uh probably not no I'm just wondering okay if so you got the Subaru right here and if I pull up in the Subaru or somebody sees me around town in the Subaru and they're like oh my gosh there's Brody driving a Subaru They're like instantly what is sis what has he done like he he's I don't know if he's playing for the other team now or what what you know what's the deal in this I'm wondering though okay to to offset that sis factor you are you know questionable your manhood is has been quite comes into question if you drive a Subaru. I get that I I've seen that enough that people say that but that's where my thinking of if I wrap or excuse me paint the Subaru in bottom land would they now say oh okay I got you now you're yeah you are a man.
SPEAKER_00No I bet you are a man if you're crazy.
SPEAKER_01You know what I'm saying? I think I just think you're weird. I think the bottom land offsets that you put a lift on it and bottom land camo I think all of a sudden now you're like oh dude I got you I got you you're you're taking advantage of that you know 30 miles a gallon gas you got the all-wheel drive you got a lift you can get off road and I mean you can put that seat down the back you got a heck of a cargo space you can put a deer in the back of that thing roof rack on the top are you with me? No I'm I dude I'm thinking it could be a heck of an ultimate little hunting rig.
SPEAKER_00My ultimate hunting rig would be a big ol' F-150.
SPEAKER_01Well dude you better get a job then pay for that gas because it's expensive I'm telling you it's expensive it hurts it hurts when you drive around town and and it's like oh I just filled this truck up I drove you know 30 minutes down the road and back and now it's like three quarters you know I it hurts and uh what else hurts is when you go to the fill it up and it's a $100 bill to fill it up. That hurts I like that little thing out there $30 fill it up drive it for two weeks son two weeks and then you fill it up again that's a lot of hunting so you guys hear me out. I want to hear from y'all seriously what you think is the ultimate hunting rig. Now I like a I like a Toyota truck. I've had the Toyota Tacoma before back in the old days it used to be good gas mileage. Now everybody's like oh get a Toyota Tacoma or get a Toyota 4 runner. They got good gas mileage and I don't really think they do anymore. I don't I hadn't had one in the last 15, 20 years, but I mean they got bigger engines now. They're not the little four cylinders they used to be everything's bigger engines now. It's all you know it's all the same. You know you get that 16 miles a gallon or 18 maybe they're not as fuel efficient as they once were I love the Toyotas but they're they're they're getting on up there when it comes to you know gas and all that stuff it's about like everybody else now. What about Toyota Rav 4? Not the Tacoma not the 4 run a little RAV4 kind of we've kind of called it a grandma SUV before what do you think about that? You think that's a little bit I mean questionable in your manhood?
SPEAKER_00I just think it should be a grandma car. Yeah but I think it would be perfect for mom.
SPEAKER_01Perfect for it's for grandma's and your mom. Uh I think little RAV4 put a lift on it. Oh my gosh what is with you and lifts ground clearance my man ground clearance you get up above there and you're not running you can run over some sticks and stumps and logs and mud holes whatever get you a little more ground clearance grow across the field seriously we want to hear from y'all what's your favorite rig shoot us some DM uh holler at us let us know what you think on the ultimate hunting rig for you are you gonna stick with the big pickup truck I mean we were out there just cleaning out the truck a minute ago it was so nice to have we had coolers in the back fishing poles chairs fire pit wood all in the back of that something you start thinking about that you ain't getting that in the back of the Subaru. Yeah that's why trucks better but you could get a lose it Subaru or Ford you can get all that stuff on the roof rack of the Subaru though see I don't know coming back around we'll see um but what do y'all drive what do you like um we've done a little bit of everything over the years when I grew up man station wagon was where it was at the old station wagon the station wagon it was bad news man lay down the back seat we'd wrestle in the back play football wrestle you don't see station wagons anymore even the full size van with a full size van for a while when we moved up from the station wagon to the big van full size van you don't see much of those anymore now the the minivans came on the scene and now they're even kind of on the way out everybody's doing the SUVs and the crossovers and all that so I don't know I I want to hear what y'all think on my decision or my consideration of the Subaru with a lift being the ultimate hunting rig for fuel efficiency. Hunt more spend less what you think I'm kind of digging it I'm kind of liking it. Hey let me share a verse with you as we wrap up this thing this is uh this is good stuff and this is what I shared with the students last night we talked about fishing a moment ago and we talked about these guys using these different baits and lures and different things and so many of them last night were casting different stuff. They're like well I got this high dollar deal boom cast it out there hey Mr. Brody nothing's working this don't work this ain't happening fish ain't working on this you know this doesn't work and they wanted something else and they had all these different crankbaits like you're talking about what'd you call it the bull bull uh bullegill something something in it looking like dude that looks just like a little baby you know bluegill right that looks just like this or that looks like a frog. Why is it not working? I don't know. But we gave them something different we gave them uh another option and bam when you come to me crickets and worms if you want to catch bluegill crickets and worms that's it that's the name of the game those fish were drawn away and lured in that's the name of the game but here it is at working for spiritual application as well. James one said Blessed is a man who remains steadfast under trial for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him verse thirteen let no one say when he is tempted, I'm being tempted by God for God cannot be tempted with evil and he himself tempts nobody no one Verse 14 but each person is tempted, listen this part. Each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Next verse says then desire when it is conceived gives birth to sin and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death verse verse sixteen says do not be deceived my beloved brothers and that's what I want to share with y'all today. Do not be deceived my beloved brothers or sisters don't be deceived. Don't let yourself get to this place where it says each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by what? His own desire. Rimbo you can't blame it on me. You can't blame it on the devil you can't blame it on God. God tempts nobody we know God's not tempting but we know Satan he he loves to tempt right he's the ultimate tempter he wants to put stuff in front of you he wants to use those decoys those lures those baits to pull you away and it says when he is lured and enticed by his own desire that's our desire then that desire has conceived it conceives it gives birth to sin. So your desire and acting on that desire gives birth to sin and then sin when it is fully grown when it matures brings forth death spiritual death spiritual death where we have said you know what I we've we've blown it we have we've way way wandered off way off path and we've chased after things that don't need to be chased after put our eyes on things that don't need to be put our you know our eyes fixed on and man it leads to spiritual death and just a downward spiral slippery slope and um it all starts with acting on that desire. We see something we like just like those fish they saw something ooh I like that I'm grabbing that I'm going I'm gonna devour that and uh we've got to say no to that. And the key is stopping it at that desire level. Don't let it continue to fester. Don't let it continue to grow and give birth to sin. Nip it in the bud and don't go down that path. Don't be lured away Rimbo that's good for you that's good for me that's good for our listeners today. Don't be lured away and enticed by those selfish sinful desires that creep up on us all the time every day all day remember that go look that back up James chapter one get on that word in your Bible. It's a good piece it's just a good reminder for each one of us we don't need to get down that path of chasing after those sinful desires of the flesh. And that's going to do it. We'll wrap it up and uh Rimbo appreciate you being with us today and being back in here and good word to keep in mind. Appreciate you guys I want to encourage you guys to share the podcast with somebody this week invite them back to check it out your friends your family your memories and your peopals tell them all about it.
