Going pretty good, and uh another beautiful day in West Tennessee. Paris, Tennessee, to be exact, sunshine. Man, dude, we've had like four days now of no rain. Pretty crazy. It's been a good streak. It's been it is a streak, and that's that's just uh blows my mind because we've had for most of summer rain about every day. Everything's still green. Um crazy stuff. You know, we talked about being in Colorado recently, and it was desolate and dry and dead out there. Get back here. Everything's green. I know uh I assume the farmers love it. I don't know if there's such a thing as too much rain, uh, but the bean fields, you know, we've been cruising the back roads in the evenings looking at deer, and the bean fields are just uh man, there was one field the other night. Were you with us the other night? We went looking, and probably it was deer. You could even see you just see heads sticking up, you know, make it.

Just ears. The beans were over chest high. I mean, it was some tall bean fields. And so lush, green is the word, and uh, I guess, like I said, that's it's good. It's fine stuff for for guys like us that want to go hunt these bean fields in just a few weeks. That's crazy. That's crazy. And so we're gonna talk a little bit today about some of the gear we're gonna be using this bow season, gear for the year for bow hunting uh and deer hunting in general, and so we're gonna kind of just get the kick the dust off a little bit talking about some of the gear that we're gonna be using. And a lot of it's much of the same, but in case you haven't heard, we're gonna give you the word on what we use. But uh this podcast is brought to you by our good friends at Onex Hunt. And I've done that over the years, you know, whether I'm knocking on doors or just dropping a pin, and then when you go back and look at the big picture, kind of that 30,000-foot view, you look at the big picture and you can realize, oh man, that's not too far away from this place, or that's in with you know, traveling distance of a deer uh to this farm. And I'm I hunt this farm and you know, you start putting all the pieces together uh when you see and load those sightings, like boom, saw a big buck here, boom, saw a big buck here, and then you realize you start, like I said, putting the pieces together. Even if it's not on your own farm, if you've got farms in that area, you can start putting those pieces together and realize, yeah, there's a big buck hanging out in the neighborhood. Like I said, it may not be the place you're hunting, but if it's close to your place, a farm or two away, uh, that's all good information. You start knowing, hey, during the rut, that dude's not gonna be just on that place, he'll be other places too. So, all that to say, check out Onyx Hunt. Yeah, I I'm just I'm just fired up to get back in uh just to suit up, you know. I got a pile of stuff here, kind of going and taking inventory because we're talking about doing our sportsman's sale. Um, anybody that's listening to this, that's local friends of ours, we might be dropping uh our sportsman's sale, trying to do it this weekend. We'll see. Um but been going through the pile of stuff, keepers. Um I I used to have this policy of never sell any of my moss yoke stuff. I just don't, you know, just keep it. Just got to use the.

But you have like a lot.

Too much, yeah, too much. You know, we get different stuff. Some of the stuff, I'm not naming any names, but some some apparel items don't fit as good as others, you know. Some of it's just whatever, you know. Maybe it's not it's not the product as much as it is the person, like me. You know, I I need different stuff, you know. Um different fits work better for me than others.

And so Yeah, I probably do need to get rid of some of my hunting clothes. Because like I that I like have grown out a bunch of it, but like I just have a lot that I just don't really use. Yeah. Like there's one jacket I have, and it's like I I think it's really like not made for this area because like we don't get a lot of snow, and I think it's more made for like a place that gets lots of snow.

Quilted, heavy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's kind of the thing down here in the south. I mean, we can get by with some pretty, you know, much of the year with some light stuff. Now, when it gets into January and when it gets cold, cold, then you better suit up, you know, late season deer hunting stuff. You better have some pretty warm stuff then. But a lot of the season, we can get by some pretty mild stuff, maybe some little fleece line breeches and a jacket and a vest or a hoodie. Hoodie with the vest over is my favorite. Dirty drink is like you like can add stuff in it. So like at the uh 4th of July part of like thing we had at the church, they had like a dirty uh soda vendor there and the jeebers guy. Is the jeebers guy, and I go over there to get me a dirty soda, and so they're like, alright, so you build your soda. I'm like, okay. And so like you can choose your soda flavors, so I get a Dr. Pepper. It's like you can mix cotton candy or like other flavors in it, and so I get like cotton candy, I think. Yeah. And then they're like, you can add something else in it. I added like marshmallow cream or whatever.

So just it's infusing it's infused with like other flavors and stuff. So you take a Mountain Dew that looks like you're eating drinking antifreeze, honestly. Yeah. Green antifreeze, radiator, fluid, I don't know. Mountain Dew, and then you infuse it with cream soda. It's not a bad, it's not a bad taste. I don't know. Not bad. Um, that's the popular thing. I see everybody talk about dirty beverages, dirty drinks, dirty this, and not.

Yeah, yeah. I don't know. I I uh I'm kind of just faithful to my favorites, Dr. Pepper. It's hard to beat Dr. Pepper. I've seen they got like vanilla, vanilla, Dr. Pepper, vanilla, Dr. Pepper, maybe cherry, Dr. Pepper, Blackberry. Am I making that up?

They've got uh cream soda blackberry um yeah, they got a lot of ones. They got strawberry. You'd probably like that one.

I don't know. I just I like to keep it simple. I like to keep it simple. This uh monster here is a uh punk punch, ultra punk punch. And that is dad's sounds like something you'd have there, you little punk punch. Um so anyway, um yeah, that's the beverages on the on the table today. Um dude, let's talk about it. We we are so far behind on on shooting, so bad. It's bad. Um, I've got some tweaks and tunes. Um gotta get up and see Bill. I guess I'm gonna go see Bill. And um I've got to find, I don't know. I've got the whisker biscuit. Here, I'm just gonna get out, just full disclosure. I'm thinking about a whisker biscuit on my bow. In fact, that's what you look up there. So this year, uh shooting the Matthews arc. Um and, you know, like some people ask all the time, how do you like the new arc? Man, it's they're all, you know, if you if you've shot Matthews and you've shot the Matthews and you shoot, you know, the Matthews every year, you're not seeing like this radical difference. Like, oh, does it shoot a lot better? No, it doesn't shoot a lot better than last year. It's and you know, it's they're all kind of about the same. You don't notice much. But now if you you know, I say it all the time, if you're going from something else, you're going for another brand, or if you haven't had a Matthews in 10 or 20 years, yeah, you're gonna notice the difference. If you're going from one brand to a Matthews, you're gonna notice. I mean, there's a lot of good bows out there, a lot of bows I really like. But then you got a Matthews, Matthews way they shoot, that way they feel, the way they um just the lack of vibration at the shot, no hand shock. It's just crazy, you know. Like I said, I love a lot, I love them all. You know, I've got all kinds of bows. Um, I like them all. Um there's you can't hardly get a bad bow anymore. I don't know, I don't know anybody. You know, everybody's making good bows, good equipment. Uh but Matthew's just got something figured out. But that's what I've got. I'm gonna also uh I've got the uh a couple different bows we're gonna we're gonna be playing with this year. But uh this Matthews Ark is what I'm looking at right now, and uh that's what I'm getting set up. But I've got a whisker bit. You see that Rumbo? I see that, and I'm kind of surprised. He's a little whisker biscuit on there, and one because that's what I had on the table. Um I've got a uh Fall away rest, what I've been shooting for for years, fall away rest. Um man, I had a we talked about this, but uh I had a little fail last year. The fall away rest failed me on a late season hunt. I got up in the st in the saddle setup, uh, in the tree, ready to go, in a hot spot, been seeing deer moving through there, and uh bucks showing up on trail camera, and I was fired up. Late season hunt. Get up there and go to put arrow on the string and pop that rest up in place and it would not stay up. It kept falling, you know, it just wouldn't stay up, it'd flop back down, wouldn't lock in. And I messed with it, and it had done that a couple times. You were with me, I think, on one hunt.

Is that the one that you had like you bought for you and Aiden?

Like Aiden has one of those? I think Aiden's got one too, and and I'm not gonna name any names on the brand because it's it's one of the leading brands out there, but um, and it may not even be their fault. Maybe I just got it dirty, maybe some stuff inside was dirty, you know, needed to be cleaned out. I don't know. All I know is on that hunt, it would not stay up, and I couldn't do anything to get it to step. I banged on it, pulled on it, pushed on it, and it wouldn't step, and so it killed my hunt. And I thought about that. I was like, what if I'd been out in the middle of wherever? What if I'd been away on an elk hunt somewhere, moose hunt somewhere, any hunt, anywhere.

Um you can't get a new rest.

Well, yeah, or you're just out there in the middle of nowhere and you can't, yeah, you can't go back to the shop, you can't go back to the house to fix it. Um I don't I usually I mean I'll carry a backup bow depending on what it is. I guess maybe in that situation, hopefully you would have a backup bow. But anyway, it's a deal breaker. It was a hunt breaker. Um So I go back to the house and I'm just like, good gracious, I'm about to swear this thing off. And so anyway, it let me down and kill my hunt, and you know, I got to think a lot about that.

I thought, well, the whisker biscuit is always available.

I don't know. I mean, you know, the whisker biscuit, you know, everybody wants to say, oh, it's for babies, it's a baby biscuit, it's what you use when you get started. But man, there's a I bet you've more deer kill with a whisker biscuit on the bow than anything else out there, you know, and it's just kind of foolproof.

I mean, that's all I'm using, so.

Oh, yeah, I forgot that. Sorry about the baby biscuit reference there. But uh, no, it's it's just it's good. And I think I feel like maybe it's on yours. Was it yours? It made a little noise when you drew it back.

Did we get busted a couple times last year trying to draw back and they heard your Yeah, I think they heard it because like when I would draw it back, my arrow would go on it and go free.

SPEAKER_00 12:44

Yeah. It kind of squeaked as it was going across the bristles, and that may just be old dry rod at bristles or I think you fixed it because you like put like some spray in it or something. Some lube. I don't know. Um I could see that being an issue. Uh I know you got with the whisker biscuit, you got full contact uh with the arrow. I mean, it's you you you know got more room for air because you you've got to have that follow through, you've got to keep your hand up there, because that arrow's sliding the whole length of that shaft uh through the biscuit. And um so if you flinch, if you you know, and I do flinch a lot, so uh I don't know, we'll see. Um whereas a dropout, follow away rest, when you release that sucker drops and that arrow's zipping through there with no contacts. I mean it's uh it's a it's a better system. That fall away is just for arrow clearance, obviously a much better system. But this right here, you're not, you know, I don't know, you're just always ready. It's kind of foolproof, nothing can really go wrong. There's no you know, strings to hang up, there's no servings uh to deal with, there's no um just nothing. You know, timing issues on the down cable, whatever, limd, you know, whatever it is, it's pretty pretty foolproof system if you can handle that. And if you have good form that that doesn't, you know, you're not jerking. Like I said, for me, it's gonna be interesting to see. I might have to get out there and shoot because I do flinch a lot. I got a little target panic and I'll I'll flinch or you know, don't have good follow-through. But again, I'm not long bombing crazy stuff either. You know, I'm saying you give me a deer at 20 yards, I'm I'm good. That's kind of what I want to see. Deer at 20 yards, 25. Used to say 40, but now it's getting down to you know less and you know, less and less. It's been a while, it's been a while since I killed.

Well, I shot one, I'm thinking about I remember the night out at that one farm we hunt early season. Um start the season off on out there. I remember shooting two does one evening out there. One was 40. Um actually I'd missed a deer. I missed a deer like 25. Um and then another deer comes out, shoot it, kill it, and then another deer comes out and I shot it, and it was like 42 yards. And uh I was feeling confident. Like I said, I I'd missed and then shot and killed one, watched her fall dead, and then I'm feeling jacked, and I'm like all excited, and then that one stepped out at 42 and uh killed it dead. So but that's probably the last time I shot one at that length. I'm trying to think of anything that's been that far. Everything since then. Dude, under 20. Last year, my dear, were um I didn't shoot any bucks last year, I shot those. Um 15 yards, 20 yards, 12 yards. You know, they were all close and gosh, I love it. Just talk about it. I did shoot one at 25. Um, yeah, we need to post that video. The one I shot the day, remember the day that fall foliage relaunched, and I wore some old vintage fall foliage out that day, and it was a morning that was dropping, and I was like, this is gonna be awesome. Nostalgia at its best, and I went out there and shot a doe and hard shot that sucker just stroked her and she tipped over out there. That was a longer shot. That might have been pushing 30. I'll have to look back. But I mean, 30 seems pretty usual for you though. No, I'm telling you, dude, 30 yards seems like a long shot. Um it look, I mean, out here in the yard, it looks like no big deal. But when you got a doe standing out there at 30, she always looks so much smaller, and it seems like a long shot at 30.

But all I want to do this year is 20 and under, though.

So 20 and under. This is your year. We've gotten so close the last couple years. This is gonna be your year, though. I feel it. We've got to get some s some stands set up better suited for you specifically, but uh yeah, you're killing Wantabow this year. Compound is gonna be awesome. Um fired up about that. But backer setup, I've got the Matthews Arc. Right now, it's got the old biscuit, uh like a V-Lock, whatever they call it, biscuit. Uh it's that in IMS setup, um, integrated, dovetail, integrated deal. So it's it's pretty slick, but it is a biscuit. And so we'll see. I don't know if I'll stick with that or kind of bail and do go back to Fall Away, but that's what's on there now. I've got several bows to set up. Uh HHA slider sights at two-pin vertical, two-pin. Uh been shooting HHA for a long time on the sights. May try some other stuff this year, though, too. There's some cool, cool sights out there, but uh we'll see. Been digging that one for a long time. Uh really like it. Uh, and then the Matthews accessories on there. Uh the bridge lock system's pretty pretty cool deal. Uh stabilizer and uh the quiver. They've got that, I don't even remember what they call the quiver. I should have looked at it, it uh, but it's just a really tight um fitting quiver to the bow, you know, and it gets in there. It's got again, it's got all that integrated design. And again, you can shoot your bow with it on or off. It's not sticking out there where you're it's torquing and making your bow lean and everything. Fits really snug and close to the riser. So I like that. I'll use that again this year. Uh Matthew's quiver, and it holds five or six. I guess it's five or six of them. I like at least at least five.

Aiden needs he needs a dozen. He needs a quiver that holds a dozen, you know, one of them old school. They used to make those quivers just ridiculous. I had like ten or twelve of them on there.

All I have, all I can hold is five, even though I've like ruined so many of my arrows, so I'm down to like three.

Which is what I'd normally carry, only three, because I feel like I don't need more than three, but yeah, you know, it's to never know, man.

Three should be plenty. You sit there thinking, hey, three shots. If I can't get it killed in three shots, I just pack up and go home. But I've had air times where I've needed more than three. I've uh you miss one, or uh here comes. I mean, some of those nights, man, when it's happening, you can go through three arrows pretty quick, or uh more often you you shoot a deer and break its back, and it's down there flopping, and you're slinging arrows trying to finish it off, and you're so excited you're missing. And I've had hunts where I've had to climb down out of the tree, retrieve my arrows, and keep slinging. Uh those are the fun ones. So um anyway, uh that's kind of set up. I'm gonna you're gonna be back with the mission hammer again. We've talked about getting uh Matthew's bow for you or sho shooting at the sister brand, that mission. Um I kind of feel like I'm gonna let you keep shooting at until you kill one. When once you kill a deer with it, then you graduate. Once you get your first deer with the mission, the one you've been after, the bow you've been ta toting, um, I feel like then get you that.

I'm gonna like try to go like every night I can, even if it's just going behind the house.

Oh yeah. That's what I'm saying. We've got to get sp places set up where you can just go. You're big enough, you can go on your own. We got the lifelines in place. We'll talk more about that. But um and and part of it's this too, Remy, is uh I wanna I don't want to get you another youth bow. I want to get you a bow that your next bow will be a bow you can have forever. You know, or not forever, but you know, you can have for a while because you're you're 13 fixing to be going on 14 now and you could be toting one of these Matthews, you know, a man-sized bow, and then you could just swap out, you know, uh cams or limbs or whatever you want to do to get make it, you know, have your poundage or draw length or whatever you want. That's what's cool about these bows. So I I don't want to get another use bow necessarily. Um I did think about letting you shoot that that Matthews image right there. I don't know if you've ever messed with it, and that's something we could potentially even do this year, but I think we're probably gonna stick with the mission as we said. But that Matthews image was designed several years ago. I don't know if it's even on the website anymore, but uh did a review on it, and it's it was basically designed to give you all the stuff of a Matthews bow. It is a Matthews bow, all the technology, slick shooting, you know, performance of a Matthews, but in a uh lower poundage bow. So it was kind of the bow for the guy or the lady that was struggling with shoulder issues or back issues or just anything where they couldn't draw the weight that once did. It was give you peak performance at like 45 pounds, 50 pounds, and so the person that was having to hang it up, I can't shoot 60, 70, 80 pounds anymore. They can shoot this bow, and it's like I said, very efficient, uh, lots of performance, deadly bow, and a bow that draws only 45 or 50 pounds, and so that's pretty cool, and that might be other than the draw length, I think you could pull that back. You remember what your draw weight is? I feel like last time it was like 49. Yeah, I was gonna say you're probably you gotta be clear.

Well, like like a couple weeks ago, you were like asking me about that bow, like I was cleaning my room out or something, and you're like, Yeah, uh, we're like, here you should try pulling back this bow. And so I don't think you're in the house at the time, but I'm like, I might as well. So I pulled it back.

Yeah, and it was pretty hard, but I did it. Got it.

So Well and that maybe draw uh you know, maxed out on weight, you could probably drop it down some, but I don't know, it might be something you could try. We'll see, but Um there's several options. I'm gonna be also toting, I'm gonna go do some hunts this year um with the Expedition. Uh what is it called? X Lite? There's an X Lite. Oh gosh, I had the X Lite 32 last year. I have to look back and see Um Which one that is. Uh Laden, my buddy Laden uh and he's been shooting that bow and got me set up one and it's it's a cool bow. You know, the Expedition is one of the newer players in the game. Um they they're doing some good stuff, come up with some sweet shooting bows. They look good, they feel good, they got great performance, draw cycle's good. Really like those. Um got one of those in bottom land as well, and uh gonna toke that to the woods. It's a good looking bow. I'd like to try to kill some stuff with it too this fall. So just trying different things, trying uh variety of bows out there, like to see what's happening, different materials. Um, bows are being made from. The industry is really changing things up, coming out with different stuff, different riser materials and different things. Um and so it's always ever evolving. Uh, but that's kind of the deal. I know we gotta get arrows fixed up. You've been shooting some uh Maxima Reds Maxima Reds for a long time, just because that's what we've had. But Easton's kind of our um my arrow of choice, been for a long, long time. I I love Easton arrows, and I think we're gonna get you fixed up with some of those because we need to get you some more bullets in the quiver this time around. And so I'll get you fixed up with some Easton arrows. And um again, that's what I've been shooting with my compounds as well as my trad bows and stuff, Easton shafts, um East and Axis arrows, man. Just hard to beat. Been shooting those for gosh, I remember I feel like I whenever they came out. I don't remember when that was 25 years ago. I I've vividly remember shooting those when I was out at the Covenant Ranch when we were starting stuff off with camps out there. It's been 20, 25 years. Um been shooting those axis shafts and just just dang tough arrows. Um hard to beat. And so I'd be back in. Sever broadheads for me. It's what I've been shooting the last several years. Uh really, really like, man. I don't know. Um great great uh wound channels, great pass-throughs with the mechanical. I mean, a lot of mechanicals, you won't get a pass-through, but with these severs, I've never had one that I've got as many pass-throughs, you know, and that great penetration uh that I have with these sever heads. And that's all of them. I mean, you say which one in particular you talk about? It's all of them. The um 1.5s, the two inch, the hybrids, the four-blade, the two-blade. I mean, they've all done an incredible job.

And you can use the same one over and over again.

Yes, yes, good call. I mean, I that's the thing about it. I've I've I've never seen a mechanical head. Most of them out there are pretty much disposable. Um you shoot, you shoot once and it's done. You miss or hit the animal and it's done. You're you get one shot. But these we've talked about on the podcast before. I know several years ago I shot I think four deer and a coon.

A coyote, I thought. Coyote, yeah, yeah.

I think it was three or three or four deer, a coyote and a coon. That was a year before last, I guess.

And all the same broadhead. But the coon just took it away.

But Well the Coon, it was a passer on the coon. I shot as the coon was going up to this tree to the den in the morning. I was on a deer hunt, and these coons all come down, they're going up to this den tree next to me. And he's going, so I was shooting up and uh shooting up into the tree, and I hit him and crunched him, and the air went through him, zipped through him, and just kept sailing. I know some people think that's not safe. Well, it didn't go sailing, you know, for miles, it just sailed up in the air and then went over there wherever. Um killed the coon, lost the arrow. But that was like the fifth animal or so. And that I mean, it's just crazy. Now I know some people are like, well, that's not, you know, you shouldn't shoot multiple animals with uh a dull broadhead. No, you shouldn't. That's my whole point. The arrow, when I get it out, I mean, it would still be razor sharp, deadly sharp. I mean, it just it maintained its blade. Um I I wasn't shooting a beat-up dull broadhead. I was shooting a broadhead that was not damaged at all, ready to go back in the query, still sharp. Super impressed. That's what sold me on them. That that season right there. I mean, I I was impressed with them, penetration and uh durability of them, but that that right there kind of sealed the deal for me. And so we've been shooting them for a while. Uh I've been shooting them for a while. That's what I'll shoot again. Were you shooting those or rage or a little both?

Yeah, I gave you a hodgepodge of a little bit of everything. Gave you some of the leftovers. Now I say leftovers, rage is what we've shot for a long time as well. Um rage, you can just always count on them. You know, you try the broadheads, you try the things, and I'm gonna shoot this, I'm gonna shoot that. Oh man, I've got to tune this, it's not shooting quite right. Go back to the rage, you know what I'm saying? And um, rage was just a perfect confidence broadhead. Always knew what it was gonna do, shot shot great. And so rage and then several does the same thing. You just know where they're gonna be, know what they do, and so either one of those are likely what you'll find in our quiver. Um what else? Tree stand stuff. Like I said, we've got to hang you some sets, um, get you some different things. But we've got ladder stand. I like ladder stands for you, obviously, because it makes it nice and easy. We still use the lifeline, hunter safety system, lifeline. That's kind of a standard deal. Anything you're climbing into or me, we want to make sure we got lifelines in place on that, so that way you're always anchored in from the ground all the way up and back again. And that just lets me let me let you hunt with confidence. And that way I don't have to worry. Like if I were to send you out thinking, all right, he's got to climb up in that tree, boy, he he won't get anchored in until he gets to the top, and you're climbing up and down without any uh safety device, I would be a nervous wreck, man. I'd be sick. But with that lifeline, I know, hey, you clip in, you're good. You're up and up and down, you're good. Don't have to worry about it. And so it's just peace of mind for me, knowing that you're safe. Um a lot of different stats. For me personally, I've been I've been using the tethered stuff last few years when it comes to saddle stuff. Um uh ultralock, I believe, is the one. The latest one I've got is ultralock. I know they've got several new models, but the ultralock was kind of kind of where I've um landed as far as I've got I can't remember the one. Um what was the moss yoke? I got one in Moss Yooke that was I can't remember what it was. I want to say Phantom. Ah, they got a new Phantom XP now, but either way, it um I had one I ran for several years, and then they come out the ultralock, got the ultralock, and the ultralock just has so much room, so much space. The pocket design is hard to beat. Ample pocket space. You can honestly go to the woods with just your saddle on the pockets are so spacious you can carry a lot of your stuff in those. Uh so I like that. I've got that little carbon platform I've been using from them, and I don't even see it on the website. I don't know if they've done away with that or what. Um, but they've got the new V, Predator V, I think it's called, platform. So I don't get real tore up on the platforms. I mean, they're all pretty lightweight stuff. What I have been using more is a hybrid system, and I'll do some more of that this year using a saddle setup, hunting from a saddle, but then uh uh I use an elevate um, I think it's the elevate ultra, ultra X maybe, like a five-pound tree stand. You've seen it, it's just super lightweight, and I can carry that. We're talking 5.8 pounds, and some of these little platforms, saddle hunting platforms, some of them are three pounds, you know, so we're not talking about a lot more weight, but it gives me more space, more movement. Uh be able to spin around for the shot and just not have to do a lot of jumping through hoops and whatever to get the shot. I got the spaciousness of a hang-on stand, and I got a seat on there. You know, a lot of people say, Oh, you you don't need a seat, blah, blah, blah. I just use the saddle like a seat, but I I still enjoy a hang-on setup. So it's kind of my hybrid system. Saddle with a hang-on, I like it. 5.8 pounds. I'm not afraid to carry a couple extra pounds or a pound or two more to give me that additional comfort and just ability to spin around making a shot. And I know you, yes, you can do it uh with the saddle, you can spin around your weak side, you can do all those things, run your arm under the rope and different things, but I've gotten busted more times than you know than I care to admit uh trying to do that, whereas on that hang-on stead, I can just ease it on around. So um we'll see. Camo, we talked a little bit about it. What was your what have you been wearing the last couple years, Rimbo, as far as your day in, day out? You you got the you got a hoodie or something, that lightweight hoodie, or what do you got?

Like our hunting roots hoodies. Yeah. That's what I'll mostly wear for later season if it's just like earlier season, of course. I'm just gonna wear a bottom line little dry fit type sleeve shirt. Yep. Um I'll be what's that new camo pattern they came out with? Like the country roots, maybe? Oh not new, but like newer ish. It came out about a year or two ago.

Yeah, they got the country roots, they had the DNA, I feel like. Country roots might have been the most recent thing they came out with. I feel like you got one of those.

Yeah. Yeah. Um I really like when you get you some of that element stuff, um, you'll like it. I know Aiden's got some of it. That's what I've been wearing. You know, those that little hoodie, that lightweight hoodie. It's got the zipper, quarter three-quarter zip or quarter zip hoodie, I guess it is. And um I like it. Super light, almost like a mesh looking stuff. You can hold it up and you, you know, it's got that um dry fit. I don't want to say dry fit, but it's just got a quick drying material. Um, but it's got a hood on it. You say, why would you want a hood in the heat? But man, I've used that so much where I pull it over, um, it just helps for concealment, but it also keeps the bugs off my neck, and um, and then it provides, you need to pull it down a little bit, you know, over your hat and stuff. It keeps, like I said, it creates that shadow so your face isn't sticking out there where a deer can pick you out as a person. Um keeps the bugs off of you, keeps the sun off of you, and um it's just nice. Super nice stuff from Element. I really like that piece. Uh Shingear's got a new one this year I want to try. I haven't been able to find it available. They sold out of it real quick, and I can't remember what they call it, the Veil. I think maybe it's called the Veil 105 shirt. Same kind of deal, but they took what was always remember, I used to say uh that Sitka shirt I had, it was a Sitka hoodie, and they I think it was I had a black and I can't remember if I had a I think I had a black one. It may have been the only color I had, but it was black and the same kind of stuff, super lightweight stuff for early season, um, but it had a built-in face mask. You remember that? Had a built-in, you could pull the hood over it and it had a built-in face mask.

Yeah. And I said, because it was good quality stuff being sitka stuff, it was nice quality. But I said for years, I said, if somebody would come out with sitka quality stuff in Mossy Oak. In the Mossy Oak bottom land, it'd be like it'd be money. It'd be it. And that's what Shin Gear's been doing. They've been coming out with stuff that's kind of like, okay, this is better quality stuff. Um, it's the good stuff, fits good, wears good, good quality. And they did that. They got this Vale 105, it's got the ultra-light stuff for early season. I think they've got it in Bottom Land and they've got it in the green leaf. Uh, but it's got that built-in face mask. And you say, well, that's kind of cheesy. Why why why is that such a big deal? It's a big deal because how many times I forget a face mask, you know, sitting up there, especially for turkey hunting, you know, you look you get out there and you're you're turkey hunting, and he's like, dang, I forgot my mask. And turkeys won't they won't give you any forgiveness on that. We don't have a mask for turkey. Deer, I got a beard, you know, kind of blends my face in. Some breaks up that white face of mine. Although my beard's getting more and more white all the time, so that might be more of a reason to wear a mask for deer season.

Cinnamon. Cinnamon and uh, yeah, maybe cinnamon, I don't know, a little salt and pepper. But regardless, that mask is nice to have built in. Pull the hood up, got a mask with it, and boom, it's all one piece, you don't have to worry about it. It's just a nice, nice piece. Like I said, now it's not been available. Uh they were sold out of it a while back. And all the camo. I think you get solid color still, but uh I would like to try that piece. That's the one I want to add if I can ever find it available before season. I'd like to add that to the mix, but otherwise, uh, this element, here's this element stuff right here. That's what I'm talking about. Look at this stuff. See that shirt, man? It's like you hold it up and it's like some kind of you know, it's like a summertime. I keep saying mesh. I don't think mesh is the right word, but you know, you can see through it, you know, if you stretch it out and hold it up. But I like the zipper on the chest, because I you can uh pull that zipper down, let your chest hair hang out a little bit. Keep mama happy. She likes to see that chest hanging out there, and then uh no, you say no. Uh you could wear it and show them girls your chest hair when it you finally start getting chest hair. I don't know. Um you can seriously unzip that down and cool off. You know, it's kind of nice to let that airflow. Get some airflow. Nice piece there from Element. So um be wearing that stuff again. And the pants too. The shirt and pants from Element. Good stuff, hard to beat. Um what else? Boots. Probably keep kicking the same old boots. We've been doing less and less of the knee boots lately. You still wear neat rubber knee boots from lacrosse.

I mean, I wore the uh lacrosse knee uh boots, the bottom line ones I have for turkey season. Yeah. But that's more Yeah.

Depending on where we are. Yeah. Yeah, we've kind of gone with the hikers just because so much more comfortable. Um man, you sweat so much in those knee boots. Again, it all depends on where you're at, you know, what the terrain is. And um we've just really been doing the hiking boots more focusing on comfort and not worrying about, you know, if you're not in the swamps, not worrying about needing a big, heavy, tall boot and just spraying the fire out of that permethrin, keeping them bugs off. I used to wear the knee boots more than anything just to keep not uh not worry about the mud, but just to keep the bugs, keep my pants tucked into the boots, you know, for uh prevention of ticks and chiggers and stuff, but we started wearing that permethrin real hard last several years and and um it's just not been an issue. You don't have to tuck in, you just you just spray down good, treat your clothes with that stuff, and it's been been lights out. A really good job of keeping those suckers at bay, and that's so important right now. So many people popping up with uh alpha gal and and limes and disease, and just it's so important to be treating your stuff. So when you talk about gear, we talk about permethrin being in the mix. We make our own, but you can buy it in the can at Walmart or mix up your own, whatever. Um good stuff. Rimbo, I think that's a good start to our uh look at gear, what's coming up. We'll get a little more um involved in what we've got in the bag, kind of focus on the pack here before too long. Um but that kind of gives a good look at what's coming up. We're excited, just a few weeks out. We're gonna be talking about the tactics and different things, uh, how to hone in on some of these bubbles. Some of the things we do, you know, as far as prepping, uh, where we look, what we're looking for, and all that good stuff. We'll talk about that in the weeks ahead. But as we wrap things up, verse of the day, uh listen to this. Luke chapter 16, verse 10. It says, Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much. And whoever is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much. Uh the question is, what how are you are you faithful with what you got? You know what I'm saying? Are you handling the stuff you've been given? Whoever is faithful with the little stuff is also faithful in much. If you can handle the little things, you're going to be handling the bigger things, and if you're faithful to do that, God, I think, wants to see how you're handling the blessings he gives you. If you're faithful in those little things, um, you'll be faithful in bigger things. You can't expect God to a lot of times we say, Hey, Lord, give me this, give me that, Lord bless me with this. And it's like, dude, he needs to see or wants to see that you're you're just faithful in the little stuff. You're faithful in the little things he's blessed you with, and the little things he's got in front of you. If you can't handle that, why in the world would he want to give you more in the big things? Uh said, whoever's unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much, man. What are we doing with the things he gives us? What are we doing with the resources, our time, our lives? Are we being faithful? Are we being fruitful? Uh, big and small, are we being faithful in the things he gives us so we can be blessed with more, be blessed with abundance, and be handling more. God helped me to have this, do this, be this. Hey, it starts with small things. Are you being faithful in the little things? I hope that it can be said for you. I hope that can be said for us.
