Welcome to Digital Podcaster. My name is Dylan Schmidt, your host. And today I just wanted to share with you real quick, I always say at these solo episodes that I'm going to be real quick and then 30 million hours later. Real quick, I'm going to try and make this more succinct today, because I don't think that there's too much to expand on here. But I want to talk about the importance of getting help. And I'm going to share this through a personal story first. And, and just to give you some, I think a lot of people struggle with this, especially if you are a small business owner, you would label yourself a aspiring entrepreneur or entrepreneur or content creator, making stuff like that, especially online, doing, you know, marketing, this would apply to, to a lot of people. And if you don't even, you know, subscribe to any of those names, I would still think that there might be some places you might find this useful. So I talked with a lot of people that say they wish that they had more time to make more content, or they wish they had time for this. They wish that time for that time, time, time, time time, right? Everyone's got not enough time or not enough energy to do something within that time, right? Even if you had more time, would you have enough energy to do something inside those hours? And I bet most of the time, the answer is no, not as much as you'd like to do, right. We don't have infinite brain power, we don't have infinite capabilities. For example, I love making content, right. I love making podcasts. I love making the short videos lately, and I do actually kind of enjoy editing the videos. But one thing I wish I had more time was of was editing the videos, because I actually kind of enjoy the art of editing, I'm realizing that there's actually some, there's, there's, there's more to it than just Wagas editing. And it is a little sad because editing. If you've never edited video, it is one of the slowest part there's no like super fast way to make editing look great. I have researched it at to no end. And yeah, there's like shortcuts you can make. But to make a really high quality video takes time. And it takes a lot of time. And if you are scraping, if you're coming up with this, all these ideas, and then you're scripting it, and then you're filming it. And each of these in like just saying a sentence, but it really is like downplaying what it is like scripting, it takes time. Coming up with ideas takes time. Recording, it takes so much time, especially if you don't have like a proper setup or anything. And then editing it takes a lot of time. If you record like for example, if I record a video that takes that in the video itself, maybe I'm really good at it. I recorded a bunch recently. So I have a good idea of this. But say it's of me talking and it's a 32nd video, the whole video itself is like 60 seconds, but there's only really like 30 seconds of me talking that one video might take 30 minutes to 90 minutes to edit. And that's you know, 90 minutes is on like the other is going to look good. And we're talking a 32nd or less video, if I want to make it look really good. And then say it's edited, say I spent 90 minutes editing it. And then I publish it. And then whatever the algorithm is noticing that day, whatever it is, it just doesn't go out to everybody. And it's just a fleeting because you spent all that time you did all the things you did the ideas, you did the recording, you did the editing, and then you published it and then just like, just didn't get pushed out of the people. Or maybe that idea just wasn't conveyed. Can you reuse that again? Yes. does that actually mean that the content wasn't good? No, not at all. But it still took all that time. That is a fact it took essentially, maybe like, I guess if it took 90 minutes, you could say maybe it took two hours or more to come up with that one thing based on like, you culminated yeah, there's like some layover with idea creation and all the steps it took to get there all that stuff. Could be more than two hours really, but let's just say about even rounding it out. And let's just caught two hours for this 32nd video. It doesn't take me that long because I've been doing it a while but especially in the beginning can take you that long if not much longer. And I say all that because even me who makes videos every day and has got a flow down and I can do podcasts really fast and stuff that takes me very little time still takes time and it takes energy. And I see other people just struggle with different things in that area. And so I've been working with this video editor. And I have been looking for video editors for a while now because there's like some if there was a graph, video editors either, like cost a lot and do great work, but then you're like, I can't pay this much for a social media video. That's not that's not feasible, like for me, I'd be I would be that would not be a smart financial move whatsoever. Yes, I have a business. Yes, I have podcasting academy that costs money for people to join, like, I have a I have a business, but there's no like, there's very few businesses that can pay a bunch of money for a social media video, only to have it not bringing any clients or not bringing any business, right. So that's out of the question, paying a bunch of money to have a highly produced video. Also, to make a highly produced video, like you can only do so much for just talking straight to the camera, right? I mean, yeah, there's a lot you could do. But like, you don't need a huge production. And the more produced you make it sometimes it looks like an ad, and doesn't even perform as good. If you see some of the top most viral videos on Tiktok. For example, there's a shot with their phone. It's not usually using some fancy camera. And with that being said, it's like why spend all the time and money. And I am already realizing Yeah, I thought there's gonna be a super short episode, it is going to be the short stuff. So with that being said, so I've been looking for this video editor, and I've gone through many different editors, well give them a test, essentially, rather than buy like 10 or something, I'll just give them a test of like, Hey, I just wanna start with this one video. If this goes well, then we'll do more videos. And the test for the most part, you know, and I look for people on Instagram, I'll go through different pages, or if they say their video editor, I'll look on Fiverr I'll look on Upwork I've looked a lot of places. And it's been relatively slim pickins from like, what I've actually liked. And then I came across someone on Fiverr, who I didn't think anything different of I wasn't like, Oh, I just thought they were rather cheap on Fiverr. And I was like, Okay, well, let's just give it a shot. You know, they their videos look like every other videos. And the video I got back. I was like, Yes, this is awesome. This is great. Like, you and what was great about it was not only usually when I deliver videos, even as a test for people, they're like, I have to edit it before I send it. So they're just editing it, they're not really helping the story of the video come to life. So I would record the video, and I'm still spending time editing it. And that is okay, but I'm like now I'm and this is for other video editor students like even a little bit more expensive ones. I'm like, How much am I paying you to this day, because I feel like I'm still doing a bit of work here. You're not filming it, you're not like cutting out this, you're, you're not shaping what I say in the video, like, like, I would still have to. If I messed up during the video, it's like I would edit that part out. I'm like this, yes, a video editor should be able to do that. But what I was finding is like, they would not keep the story flowing in the video. So I would have to do some editing to it. And that was like that, like, I feel like I'm just throwing money away because I'm paying somebody to edit something that I've already edited. I'm editing it, and they're editing it like we're editing it to get like. So that's been the struggle. And then I finally came across this one editor on Fiverr. And he actually asked for the raw video, he was like, I want the raw video that makes it easier for me to edit. Like whoa, I almost felt like kind of conflicted for someone give you the raw video. I don't know if I can do that. Like, I'm not used to giving up this control. Like, all the time I give these videos and they don't tell the story and I don't even use the videos and I bought the video I paid for the video because I'm not going to be like this is a free test or something. Because the success rate has been rather low. But I give him the raw video and what does he turn back this video that I'm like, Oh, this is really cool. This is this is not like what I would have done with the video like as far as how quick he chopped up my voice and the ins and the outs and things like that. But it was like oh, that's pretty cool. So I posted it, and it did really well on Tik Tok in relation to what my other videos get it got, I believe maybe I don't even know numbers in my head. I'm just gonna say a number. I don't know if it's somewhere like north of like 12 to 20,000 views or something like that. And that is better than what my videos normally were getting on Tik Tok, especially at that time, maybe a month or two ago. And I'm just like, let's do a lot of videos. The price is low, the quality of work is high. Let's do this. So I just start giving him more videos to make and he He's like, Hey, I live in a country that doesn't have electricity goes in and out. And I'm like, I don't care. Like you're doing great work. I just want to give you like creative freedom, you just do, I don't let me try and do the opposite of what I've been doing. And that's just get out of the way. Not that I was really getting in the way before, but I didn't have much trust in the editor. So I feel like I had to give more direction. For the even after the test, I'd be like, oh, let's try this again. And then it just never would work. And like, this is costing me too much time and money. So with this editor, I would give him the videos raw, and then he would make it great. And then people would, I started getting more comments on my video, the editing of the video than the video itself, like the content I'm talking about. And I'm like, that's fine. I guess it as long as people are engaging, that's cool. But I mean, to be honest, like, yeah, if if I've got in one video, if I've got like, 20 comments, and 19 of them are about the video. Yeah, it's a little weird. Because people maybe on social media think I'm making everything and so they're like, how did you edit this video? I'm like, I have a video editor. It's not me. And a Yeah, got a little like, even made a little caption. And one of the videos I said, I said like something the video had nothing to do with captions, I don't think but I was like something like, if you're asking me how I make these captions, it's my video editor. Like, kind of, like, get ahead of it. But it's cool. It's cool. But I think he does such a great job. And he like I already mentioned, he is in another country, right? So he he is not always able to access the internet. He's got like these, you know, he's got family, he's got other jobs. He's one person, as he's told me. And he's super nice. And we get along great. We're fairly like minimal conversation. I don't know how old he is, I don't know much about his like social background, I just know that. I pay him for the videos, and he does quality work. And I try to make any interaction I have with him positive. And I'm just like, supportive, I guess. And because he's supportive, and we have this kind of cool little relationship. With that being said, because he's in another country. And he's only one person and all these things like he got sick, or his parents or school, I don't know, all sorts of things, something, he's not able to deliver the videos, I haven't found another video editor yet. That doesn't is as priced like he does and his quality of work. So again, yeah, I could go back on the search, which I need to do, because I'm not trying to throw all of this on one person. But like I mentioned, recently, I recorded a bunch of videos, so I have a lot of videos to edit. And there was a gap between when he was delivering the videos, because I believe he was sick. And then me needing to get videos out. So I was editing these videos. And while I get I do enjoy editing the videos, it is not as good as someone who edits just the videos, because there's so much to do when it comes like I said at the beginning, even for myself, even if I can record a video in two minutes or less, and I know what I'm gonna say, and I can bust out all these videos, the editing process to make it on the level that he does it. There's just no way like I just don't have the energy or the idea. It's not where my brain should be at. And if you've read the book, E Myth revisited, or E Myth, the E Myth or something like that, the E Myth revisited. I'm totally blanking on the name, the E Myth revisited. Yeah, it's a great book. I recently read it. And I would recommend it if you are interested in any type of entrepreneurial activities, or you're an entrepreneur yourself, and you haven't read it. Because it wasn't until that book, I realize the distinction between like the entrepreneur, the manager, and the technician. And each of those stages are equally important to a business and I look at Digital Podcaster. It is a business. But I also look at the content as part of the business. And when I'm making content shouldn't really be from the manager, right? Like I shouldn't be, it's not really overseeing because the manager is overseeing the technician. The technician is the one that is doing the editing, right. That's the actual hands on the editing, of making those things happen. And again, this applies to like more in depth editing. This is not really applying to more of what would you call it like quick videos, social media videos, I'm not like this isn't a plot. This will play in different areas. When I make the content, it's not. Yes, part of it is a little part of it is going to be with the technician, right? I'm making the videos myself. So I just hit record. I'm a technician in that sense. But from the actual vision of what I want to cast in the videos of like this forward thinking this innovative mindset that comes from the entrepreneur. What is an archetype? I guess you could call it? So I'm making the videos on on this podcast even for example me right now is from the entrepreneur archetype. But you could say, but when it comes to the editing itself, I should be in the manager, I shouldn't be in the technician because the manager is overseeing many things, not just one thing. And for me to effectively be able to manage the business isn't through being a technician in every area, because there's areas where yeah, I'm the technician and still, and like, whether it's recording things like that, yeah, there's, there's always areas I'm going to be not always, for now, there's a lot of areas I'm gonna be the technician in, because it's just a small business. But outsourcing their video editing. When there was this gap, it made me realize how crucial like, yeah, if it needs to happen, I can hop in and edit the video. But I could also do my best to set up the systems in place to have that done ahead of time through having a video editor, and now I can just focus on managing him, which is really easy, because I found someone that has a passion for video editing. And I trust I trust him. And I don't believe like, I don't feel like when I get a video back, I'm like, I gotta give him all these notes. Because I have had to do that with other video editors. And I'm like, this is costing me more time I'm spending more time managing. And so I wanted to share all that because that applies, of course, in different areas, but especially with content, because my accounts grow faster, when he when he edits my videos, and I publish them because they look better, and they're more well done. And I think you know, as content creators, as people who are passionate about the thing we're sharing, we're like, we are the ones who need to share it, we are the ones who can do it best. But that's not true. Like there's people out there that can help you tell your story that can add like a secret sauce to it, that will help you tell your story better than you can tell it yourself. And there's different, I would say price points for that. And the goal isn't to, you know, if you're if you have no money to invest in something like this, the goal isn't to be like, well, I'll have to do it alone forever. No, the goal is to figure out a way to get some money to help you invest back into the things that you're making to make them better. Because the truth of the matter is, I don't care who you are, there are people out there that will help you tell your story, that reach in and communicate more effectively to people then you can do yourself. Like, for example, if someone was you know, how if you if you were speaking by yourself to your phone, yeah, you could reach a lot of people. But if you're at a live event in person somewhere and someone else had put this event on, and you're speaking on stage in front of like 5000 people, you didn't make the stage you didn't do all these things. Like there's so much that we feel like we have control and, and domain over. And the reality is like, we we do it best when we do it with other people and other people because we're making stuff that's meant to be shared, when we're talking about content, it's a really a good idea to do it in the, in the process of creation with other people. People have a misconception about books, when it comes to writing a book is that they think people most a lot of people will think that you write a book and then you just publish it. But the truth is, you write a book, and then it gets taken apart by editors. And not just one editor, multiple editors, multiple editors will rewrite your book almost essentially. And even a good book that doesn't get picked over by editors still gets edited. And they go back and they go, what about this? What about that? I propose this change this will help you tell this story better? All of those things. So even I just want you to know even like books, they don't it's not like you read the firt? No, no first draft. I would say it's extremely rare that a first draft of a book gets published, especially through a publisher. That is a publishing company. It's self published books. Yeah, might be a little different. Because maybe there's not as much time or money for an editor but like, no, that's not happening for some random house or Penguin Books. No, they're having multiple editors, there's revisions, there's improvements, there is cutting things out, there's adding things in. And I'm not saying that's going to happen with social media videos that you have to do that. But I just want you to know that you can probably not only see you can probably I just want to make definites here because it's true. You will grow faster when you work with someone else on your vision than you could ever possibly go on your own. And looking at through the E Myth lens here. When you're an entrepreneur manager, there's the entrepreneur, manager and technician. Do your best to try and live as much as possible in the entrepreneur manager area, because that will move things forward the most rather than you sink because my time is freed up now about video editing. For the time being yeah, there's other things I can focus on. Now I can start making more YouTube videos I can start in approving certain messages, I will spend more time on the captions or future video ideas, because I have the extra time and energy away from video editing. So I think it's worthy investment to get help. And that's all I'll say about that. And yeah, I hope you're having a great day. Thank you for listening.
