Welcome to Digital Podcaster. My name is Dylan Schmidt, your host and today, solo episode. Tomorrow we back with another podcast coaching conversation. But I wanted to share why I don't tell people to podcast. And that might sound maybe strange coming from someone who teaches podcasting for a living and has built a company around it. And if you look at my social media, all they talk about is podcasting. I don't tell people to podcast. And it kind of goes ties in with my content strategy, which is something I talked about last week. So I don't tell people to podcast because I don't think everybody has to have a podcast. If you don't want to podcast, obviously, I don't think it's a good idea to have a podcast, there's no point in convincing someone why they need to have a podcast. And I think when we as creators, make content online, to share with other people, it's really easy to trick it ourselves into saying that, you need to do this or you need to do that. And I heard this really great quote, last a couple days ago. And it I forget, I think it's Samuel somebody, I forget the exact person. But it says, We need to be reminded more than were taught. It's like a quote from a while ago, we need to be reminded more than were taught. And it's really stuck with me these last couple days, is I think about being an educator online, and sharing what I know and things like that, and also sharing it in a way that people catch on to or enjoy or are open to hearing. Because I know with a lot of educators out there, it feels like sometimes you might be cramming information down people's throat, I feel that way sometimes. And I'm trying to shift into more of a mode with my content where it's not so much do this or do that. And I think I've actually done a good job on this on the podcast, where it's like, I'm more sharing my experience. But especially with social media content, I'm trying to refine that more and more of this is what's worked for me, this is what's worked for my clients. This is my experience. And I'm sharing it from my perspective, because that's yeah, I mean, debatable on if something's right or wrong, of course, but there's no debating if this is what I've found. And these are my results. You know, that's just the way it is. And kind of going back to the title of this episode, why don't tell people to podcast is, I just don't think that everybody needs one. And I'm not going to sit there and waste my energy on convincing someone why they need to podcast, I would rather attract people who want to podcast. And if you are educating or sharing with people online, it can get if you don't have boundaries around your content, or your domain of expertise, or even what you want to share. It can get pretty draining fast. Because you're you know, before you know it you're overextending yourself to people that don't need to be overextended, too. And I don't know that I've found too much of myself doing this over the years, but I have seen or I guess over the past year with Digital Podcaster. But I have seen other creators kind of go into territories where they don't really need to go to because if you're trying to convince someone why they should do something, you're already starting off at a deficit versus showing or leading by example and letting people come naturally to you. And you setting the example or you inviting people that need to, you know, like, let me give you an example. Actually, this is perfect, I guess. But so I've been posting the social media videos to Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok, and Facebook sometimes and YouTube shorts, and on YouTube shorts. It goes out to like such a different audience than it does on Tik Tok. The algorithm I can tell is not quite as good. And the comments usually on YouTube are way different than they are on Tik Tok or Instagram. And I find that interesting because the algorithm just hasn't like zeroed in on maybe my content and who it's for. But the people are like, I don't want a podcast. I don't want any of that. And it's like, alright, that's not who it's for. I see a similar thing, actually, with Facebook ads. When I run Facebook ads for webinar or workshop I'm doing or Podcasting Academy, I see the same thing people will be like, you know, it's not, I rarely actually, I can't even think of a time where people go the thing that I'm saying is wrong. Because it's like I don't put out stuff that is wrong, I guess like because it's like tested and proven and so it's not like you know, this is just straight up straight up wrong. it's actually the opposite. Like I saw a comment this morning that was like, you don't like this is such a gem that people don't even realize. And those are kind of more of the comments I get is like, holy cow, I didn't even realize this. Which is just because of speaking truth. But I so but I have seen comments where they're just like, This is not for me. And I'm like, Alright, sorry, you know, the algorithm just thought it, you know, take the high road and just be nice. And just say like, Hey, you know, it's all good. Sorry about that didn't you know, I didn't, it wasn't intended for you, essentially. But I'm not going to sit there and convince someone that doesn't want to be convinced, because we only have so much energy. And I would rather much rather spend my energy for people that are already enjoying or curious or open to the idea of podcasting than ever spend my time going after people that are like, convinced me on why I should do a podcast. I don't really want to add, I don't have the energy. Because there's a finite thing. And I just there's too many people that want to podcast. I don't get the time for convincing someone why they should anymore. I kind of did in the beginning. But there's just too many people, at least at this point. So short episode for you today. But I really mean it. When I say convincing someone will lead to burnout overwhelm and fading away than just attracting someone who's already open and somewhat aware of the thing that you're educating around. Hope that makes sense. If it doesn't make sense, let me know send me a message on social media or send me an email to hello at Digital podcaster.com I hope you having a great Monday. I will see you tomorrow.
