My name is Dylan Schmidt and Welcome to Digital Podcaster. Podcasting, believe it or not, can be one of your most valuable assets when it comes to lead generation. When done right, when done wrong, you're just wasting time. So let's talk about what can make your podcast successful for your business and what you need to avoid. To use podcasting for lead generation, you must keep your podcast focused, I work with a lot of businesses that have a podcast, and a majority of the time, when I'm consulting them, I mentioned how they need to cut down their episodes. Podcasting isn't radically different from other lead generation activities. The goal is still to attract listeners, and then turn them into leads customers or clients, whatever you call them. And like all lead generation tactics, the best way to succeed with podcasting is to have a system in place. Think of it this way, if your potential client heard you talk for five minutes about something. What would they be thinking? Would they be impressed with your ability to solve their problem? Or would they think that you're just rambling and you're not even sure what you're talking about? It's really easy to play small talk at the beginning of podcast episodes. And it's something podcasters I think feel that they have to do to warm up their audience. You don't need to do that save your time. your audience's smart, they don't need small talk. They don't need long introductions, they likely don't even need to be educated as much as you are doing. And it's part of the problem with a lot of podcast is not talking to their audience where they're at your audience is coming to you for a specific reason. They want their problem solved. So it's your job to solve it. And the quicker you can get to the solution, the more likely they are to listen to future episodes, and the more likely they are to become a client. When I'm talking about focus within your episodes, I'm also talking about limiting the number of topics that you include in each episode, I see a lot of people try to pack way too much stuff into one episode. And as a result, the quality of the whole show suffers, I would much rather you spread out topics across multiple episodes, and go really deep on each one. This allows you to focus a majority of your attention on that one topic, and it provides even more value to your listener because their comprehension goes up. It's also a great way to create a series of episodes that people can binge listen to, and let's be real, most podcasters are not that far ahead in their publishing schedule. Most podcasters are recording episodes a week or two or sooner before they press publish and the episode goes live. And when you do that when you're behind, that's making it easy to create overwhelm on your whole team. Because if one thing comes up, it's easy to miss your publishing date. By focusing on one topic per episode, you can be way more strategic in your publishing, you can plan out an entire series in advance, and then space out the episodes so you're not trying to do everything at once. Let's also real quick cover the types of podcasts that support Lead Generation Best. So if you are a business and you primarily do interviews, that's not going to be as effective as a solo show or cohosted show. The reason being is that when you're interviewing someone, the focus is on them. It's not on you. And if you're not the focus, then it becomes more difficult to make the case that someone should be working with you. So if you want to use podcasting, primarily for lead generation, I recommend to do a solo show or a co hosted show. In a solo show you are the focus, you are the one that is sharing your knowledge and your expertise. Let's do a quick recap because I know I covered a lot in a short amount of time. Keep your podcast focused so you can quickly get to the solution that your audience is looking for. Limit the number of topics you cover in each episode, so you can go really deep on each one. And if you want to use podcasting primarily for lead generation, do a solo show or a co hosted show.
