Dylan Schmidt:

descript is to hide cast like Canva is to graphic design. This is the show for creative entrepreneurs who have a message to share and want to live a life of freedom. Learn how to grow your network and net worth, hear from exciting guests, and more. My name is Dylan Schmidt and Welcome to Digital Podcaster. I want to share with you my favorite podcasting tool. Now, if you followed me on Instagram, or Tiktok, or YouTube, then you know, I've talked about this tool probably too much, but I only talk about it too much, because I like sharing things that are valuable with you. And it's one of those that like, I just use it all the time. So naturally I talk about it all the time. That tool is descript. This is not an ad for the script, I have zero affiliation with the script, all I do is just use the product. And I'm a big fan of it. So what the script is, is it is an editor, basically. And they've kind of reinvented the approach to editing. Previously, when you would look at editing, let's just say for example, you were using GarageBand on your Mac, you would import your audio into GarageBand. And then you would see a timeline there, right. And it would just look like waveforms with descript. You import your audio or video and it changes it to a transcript. And when you edit a word on the transcript, it edits the file itself. So you can just look at the text instead of looking at waveforms as someone who has worked with waveforms for years, I really believe that text based editing changes the game. Because reading is faster than listening. Once you know an audio is good enough not saying that listening doesn't give you enough information. Listening plus reading is like the ultimate one two punch. And I just love the approach to this I know Adobe is coming out with a similar tool to descript. And my way of framing descript is descript is to podcasts like Canva is to graphic design. Canva is a powerful tool to create graphics. People that work in graphic design, use way more robust tools, but something like Canva makes graphic design accessible and quick for things that you need to do. And most of the time a tool like descript just does the job when it comes to making a great sounding podcast. What I love about it too is it changes my approach to editing. So when I look at a file a waveform, now all I see is just like squiggly lines, right. But with the script, I'm able to see it as if I was reading a book. And something about the visual nature of that way of editing just really changes how I can structure the content. So when I'm looking at sentences, or when I'm looking at certain words or emphasis around a certain point in an episode, I understand it better than just listening to it alone. That's a powerful way to edit your episode. It does so much more than just editing, I feel like it almost brings the production to another level. And again, I know this sounds like an ad. I'm not strictly a descript fanboy. Like if another company came out, that's probably more solid. And that's one of the issues people have with the script is it's kind of a pain in the neck. Like I have a new Mac Mini that I'm using right now. I'm recording this on. But I also use on the script, I have a little meter at the top of my computer that shows different stats like memory, CPU, all this usage. And it's kind of outrageous on descript. It shouldn't be running this high. And there's no app that has more updates than to script every couple of days, you have to restart the app after you open it because there's a new update. So the script isn't perfect by any means. But if you can sit through and be patient with the imperfections, I think that outweighs just simply editing it using something like GarageBand logic, Audacity audition, there's so many tools out there to edit audio, it just changes the game in that way. Also, what's cool is it because you can edit video and audio at the same time, it just makes the whole process easier. Hey, I wanted to take a quick break. And thank you so much for listening to the show Digital Podcaster is continuing to grow because of the ratings and reviews it is getting. So if you haven't taken a quick minute to leave a review on Apple Spotify or wherever you listen, I would greatly appreciate it. Again, the success of the show is dictated by you the listener so your ratings and reviews mean the world to me. Thanks again for making Digital Podcaster success and I could only do this with you. Anyways, back to Digital Podcaster. When I'm filming these Digital Podcaster episodes, I just edit audio and video at the same time. And that's pretty much it really I don't need to do anything else. I don't need to run through another app, video and audio in one shot. That is why descript is my favorite podcasting tool. Honestly, I don't I don't want to live without it. If you've used a script before, I'd be curious to know and you've stopped for one I'd like to know why you stopped. Was it the updates, the glitches, anything like that? If you use the script also and you're a big fan of it, let me know. Also, if you haven't used it and you're gonna check it out, I'd be curious to know too. I hope you enjoyed this and I hope it helps you improve your overall production of your podcast. I will talk to you in the next episode.
