You need energy to create take breaks as you're doing all of these things because you need the energy to keep going. This is the show for creative entrepreneurs who have a message to share and want to live a life of freedom. Learn how to grow your network, and net worth. Hear from exciting guests, and more. My name is Dylan Schmidt, and welcome to Digital Podcaster. Creativity is the driving force behind a great podcast. And in this episode, I'm gonna share some ways that I become more creative. Because I'll tell you what, for years, I didn't feel creative, I felt insecure about my creativity. It's totally different these days. And I wanted to share what I've done for myself to be more creative to stay in this creative flow. Because it's something that I wish I would have heard sooner in life, let's go over 10. And I'm not going to spend a bunch on each thing here. But I just want to spark some creative ideas for you in the effort that you make your podcasts better. So number one is get outside. If you are the type of person that is inside all day, like myself, I could easily be inside all day, because I work from home, just simply getting outside, go barefoot outside, spend some time in nature, just simply taking a break and letting the sun hit your face could be huge. Number two is do new things. Often, there's that cliche get outside of your comfort zone. But really do new things often could also be your podcast, like don't be afraid to take risks. Number three is get distracted by art, you can find art in everyday places. But get distracted by that get lost in that you don't have to connect the dots literally to how that's going to impact your podcast. And that's the thing here is just let it seep into what you're doing. Another thing number four is focused on the fun aspects. It's so easy to take our podcast seriously, especially if it's related to our business. You know, this podcast is directly related to my career, my livelihood, right, but I focus on the fun aspects. And I keep things light, and that keeps me creative. It keeps me not afraid of taking risks. Number five is taking breaks throughout the day, you need energy to create. And for myself, what I do is I use a Pomodoro technique. So I work 45 minutes and then take a 15 minute break, take breaks as you're doing all of these things, because you need the energy to keep going number I think we're on five incorporate mistakes into the process. This is going to sound like pretty deep for a second. But the more safe you can make yourself in the creative process, the better your art will be. It's hard to create from a place of feeling like you're going to be judged to feel like you have to edit it as you go. You got to make the mistakes and then you edit it. I don't know who said this. But like a lot of the finalized vision of what you're creating will come through editing, whether that's editing the promotional materials for your podcast, whether it's through the episode or show art, or show notes, or just the episode itself, incorporate the mistakes first, and then you can edit and form something new. But you can't edit and create at the same time. The mission of Digital Podcaster is simple to equip as many podcasters as possible with the tools and strategies they need to succeed. But I can't do it all myself, this isn't actually a one man show. If you found value from listening, one of the best things you can do to help the show and to help other podcasters like you is to share this podcast with your co host friends, family, anyone that you think could benefit from the resources and insights that we provide word of mouth was a long way in helping and I'm not asking for donations or for you to buy anything, just simply asking you to share Digital Podcaster with other podcasters. So we can get one step closer to our goal of helping as many podcasters as we can thank you and let's dive back into the show. Spend time with other creative people. Another thing is, the easiest way to get inspired to be more creative is to simply spend time with people that you find creative in person virtually through YouTube videos. Again, don't literally connect the dots here for all this stuff, just through osmosis. Do it and know and trust that it will influence your podcast in a better way. Next is read books and articles about creativity thinking back when I was in high school, especially I had some creative people around me but they lived far. So what did I do? I read books about people who inspired me, and that makes me feel more creative. And again by osmosis, it seeps into my work. Number nine is keep a creative journal and write down ideas. I'm telling you from my own self, I am a list machine. I'm always listing out things. I'm always trying to capture ideas. Do I use all of those ideas 95% of the time I don't, but I again feel safer. And safety is the name of the game when it comes to being creative. I feel safer knowing that I had captured the idea. It just makes me feel better because I don't feel like that idea is just going to be vanished that 5% of the time when I want to use an idea from that list. I can then use it and I can pull from it. Also, when I write something down in a creative journal, or I write down ideas, or just keep a list of things, I find that it just frees up my mental hardware so I can let a new idea come in. And number 10, probably what I need at the end of this list is breathe and release the pressure to be creative. This is the real kicker, you don't need to become more creative. You just have to allow the creativity that already exists, and is already surrounding you, to surround you. And we can block it by being too serious all the time. By trying to make it perfect. All these things block creativity. So what we can do is breathe and release the pressure to be creative. At the end of the day, that's all we can do. We're only human and just you existing is creative. I really believe anything you make is creative. And the more you do it, the easier it gets. This is something that I thought this would also be helpful for me to reference back in the future Monday where maybe I'm not feeling creative. If that was helpful. Let me know I will chat with you in the next episode.
