My name is Dylan Schmidt, and welcome to Digital Podcaster. In today's episode, a Digital Podcaster, I'm talking about one of the most important aspects of running a successful podcast newsletter, and that's getting people on your email list. If you've thought about starting a newsletter or if you already have a newsletter, I'm sure you've asked yourself the question, how can I get more people signed up for this thing? Right? I meet a lot of podcasters who will start a newsletter and do nothing with it. Because they either don't see the value in it or they just see it as another uphill climb. Similar to growing their podcast. The good news is that when you're promoting your newsletter, you're actually making your podcast grow easier and building your community stronger at the same time. So let's cover some ways you can get people on your podcast newsletter. I'm not gonna spend a whole bunch of time on each of these ways, or else this would just turn into a super long episode. But I want to give you the chance to dive deeper on these. So you can visit PodcastNewsletter.com where you can grab a free 13 page guide I put together on everything you need to know about building your newsletter. All right, let's hop in. First, and this is really the lowest lift opportunity that you could do today that will increase your signups, is include a signup form on your Instagram stories. So what you'll do is make a simple post on your stories, sharing the value of being a member of your newsletter, and include a link for people to sign up. Thankfully, Instagram doesn't have a limit anymore on the number of followers you need to include, to be able to put a link on your stories. So this is available for everyone. You can treat your Instagram highlights, like the header or navigation section of your website, and your newsletter is a perfect place to put that. So make a post Instagram stories about your newsletter, and then save it as a highlight after you post it. Another way to increase signups is to offer an incentive in exchange for an email address. Just simply asking someone to sign up for your newsletter is not very enticing. You're not gonna see many conversions. These days we expect when we give our email out to somebody, we're gonna get bombarded with email marketing that doesn't really offer any value. Rarely do people want marketing emails. What they want is value. So what you can do here is offer something of value in exchange for the person's email address. An example of this could be if you had a business podcast, you could make an accompanying PDF download that goes along with your episode. That person would have to enter their name and email in exchange for the download, and when they sign up, you'd let them know that they'll also be receiving weekly newsletters from you. This is what I do. But really there's a lot of room for creativity here on how you exchange value for an email address. It's important that you make sure the value is something that your audience would actually find useful. Another way you could get more signups is by collaborating with other podcast newsletters. So collaborating with other podcasters is one of the most underrated ways for podcasters to grow. And with newsletters, it's no different. An example of this would be doing a cross promo where you both mention each other's newsletter in your own newsletters. This way you both get the benefit of increased subscribers and you're also able to tap into someone else's audience who's already interested in podcasts. The mission of Digital. Podcaster are as simple to equip as many podcasters as possible with the tools and strategies they need to succeed. But I can't do it all myself. This isn't actually a one-man show. If you found value from listening, one of the best things you can do to help the show and to help other podcasters like you is to share this podcast with your co-host. Friends, family, anyone that you think could benefit from the resources and insights that we provide. Word of mouth goes a long way in helping, and I'm not asking for donations or for you to buy anything. Just simply asking you to share Digital Podcaster with other podcasters so we can get one step closer to our goal of helping as many podcasters as we can. Thank you, and let's dive back into the show. Last thing I wanna share some really straightforward ideas to get your wheels spinning. So some things you could also do is run a contest or a giveaway. You could include a call to action in your show notes with a link to sign up for your newsletter. You could add a link on your email signature. You could run targeted paid ads. If you have a Facebook group for your podcast, you can include a signup option in there. So when someone joins the group they're asked if they'd like to also join your newsletter. As you can kind of tell by now, you can pretty much talk about your newsletter everywhere. And what I love about podcast newsletters is that they're a form of community building. The personalization newsletters offer is so much greater than just podcast episodes alone. Podcasts are intimate and newsletters are one-to-one. They're a perfect combo. What's great about newsletters is you can also have one-to-one conversations with people and you can build a closer relationship with your listeners. But to do all of that, you need people to actually sign up for your newsletter. All right. That's it for me on newsletters. If you want to grab my guide that walks you through all of the best practices of creating a newsletter, you can grab that at podcastnewsletter.com. I'll talk to you in the next episode.
