No one's gonna give you an award for doing everything by yourself, as a listener. We're just, inundated with content. There's too much out there. At the end of the day, it just matters about your listener. This is the show for creative entrepreneurs who have a message to share and want to live a life of freedom. Learn how to grow your network and net worth. Hear from exciting guests and more. My name is Dylan Schmidt, and welcome to Digital Podcaster. Welcome back to this little special three part chat, chippy t Little training we're doing. And if you didn't listen to last week's, worth checking out, I think I'm biased what we're doing here is we're first, going over ChatGPT for podcasts, like how to make your podcast better using artificial intelligence. and then, we're breaking this into three parts. So we're doing pre-production, the production, and then the post-production. In this episode, we'll be talking about the production, so like, how can you use ChatGPT to improve the production quality of your podcast? Which is crazy to say like, what the heck, what does that even mean? We're gonna break it all down today. Last week we talked about some things like how to use ChatGPT to create an outline for your podcast. We talked about how to, refine your show's format and structure. We talked about brainstorming episode ideas and topics, things like that. So, today we want to talk about recording. Well ChatGPT as of this recording . Uh, well, it didn't record this, right? It didn't record what I'm saying to you. These are all my own words. When I was actually making this naturally, I had to use ChatGPT to kind of inform and make sure things, certain things were possible, like kind of doing my research before I, uh, record this, right? I don't just take what ChatGPT gives me and then tell you I gotta fact check certain things. and basically like what I got out of ChatGPT for this particular episode was only like a little bit, I would say like 20% of what I'll actually be sharing. I feel like this is where the human element comes in. I think there's limitations to ChatGPT especially right now. So I'm not gonna dive back into artificial intelligence and like the meaning or, all that stuff. We got that outta the way in the first episode around that. So let's talk about recording. How can ChatGPT make your production quality better? I want to highlight some ways you could use it that I don't think a lot of people think about, and I think this will make you a better ChatGPT'er, I don't know if that's a word it is now, and a better Podcaster, which is the aim of all of these episodes. So first is lighting and video recommendations. Chat chip p t could suggest lighting and video setups based on your type of podcast, your desired ambi. and that would help you improve the visual aspect of your production. And what that would look like is simply like if you had a podcast about blank and you wanted to, to have a feeling of blank, what does chat b t like recommend, uh, you incorporate into your podcast? Right? Almost like using it as an interior decorator. How crazy is that? That. And then again, the better input, the better output, right? So if you gave it a specific prompt about your podcast and how you would want it to look and feel and all that stuff, it could give you an output. Now, the output it's gonna give you again, is not gonna be as good as you like. Then taking your filter on like, all right, that's a great starter. Let me improve upon that. Or depending on like the podcast for example. If you were to ask me or your to ask, you know, your audience, what they prefer, it's gonna be different, right? You should probably have much higher level trust at the moment in humans, than just artificial intelligence without fact checking anything. But it's still a good start and it's still gets the, ball rolling. So lighting and video recommendations, and then also camera stuff too. Currently ChatGPT is not doing like brand new tech stuff. and I wouldn't always trust it for all that stuff, but at, at its, you know, simplest, essence here, if you were to like, you know, recommend a good camera for this, it's a good starter so you kind of know what to look for. And again, this is like be beginner friendly stuff, or even a lighting setup. Like what kind of lights do I need to make it look like this popular podcast, for example, like if, if there was a podcast, that you like the look of on their video podcast, what would you need to get to do that? These are again, through the filter of the questions I get that I'm like, kind of mirroring back to you on what you could ask, ChatGPT to improve the look and feel of your podcast. So one thing I've used ChatGPT for, which is really cool and unexpected, is if you threw out the manual for something, you can look up, how to, use an electronic device. For example, if I, you know, my Shure SM7B microphone I'm talking into right now. There's these little switches on the back of the Shure SM7B. Now if I was like, you know what? I don't remember where I placed that manual. I could Google all this information and I gotta download a manual and go to the specific, part of the PDF that it gives me. And hopefully that saves you more time than having to Google search it and all that stuff. Cuz the idea here is speed and efficiency and using it like it's your research assistant. So you could use that for tech gear that you already have. I know we all have like, tech support questions, so using it almost like your tech support is, I think a great idea. and then again, just using the prompts, like you're talking to a friend, like you were talking to me, you know, just remove the, Hey, Dylan, , hey Dylan. I wanna make my camera look much better. I want it to have a blurry background. Like, what do I need to do to have my, my video have a blurry background for my podcast? You know, and then it'll explain to you like, oh, the depth of field and the type of lens you might want to get. Uh, and then you can start like being more creative with that, right? Because then once you get there like, oh, then I could improve this part, I can improve that part. So tech support is another way that you could utilize ChatGPT. So just tech as a whole, I feel like is moving so fast right now that it's not ChatGPT that can't exactly keep up. It's just companies, they gotta update all these pages every time they do a major overhaul of their app. Let's talk about Adobe. Came out with a cool podcast AI software, that, is free right now, but that will probably evolve. And then another thing this isn't exactly the recording production. This would be more, guest correspondence. So this would be basically pre-production, but it didn't, I didn't cover on the last one, but I think it would help with recording because people will show up. Uh, so what you could have it do is say like, how to effectively communicate to the guest that the episode is coming up. It could even write like email script reminders. So like, Hey, your, episode is with, Dylan, Schmidt is coming up shortly. And then it could, send those email reminders with links and make it friendlier or checklists, creating a podcast checklist for your guest so that they know what to expect before they arrive. You could easily input that information into ChatGPT and I have a podcast about this. This is how we record. If it's in person or if it's virtual, give me a fill in the blank template that I could send to my guest. and I'll just say real quick around the recording and like me sharing all this information, this is a good chunk of like everything I'm sharing is things that I help with people in Podcast Academy or things that I've like talked about on this podcast. If you've listened to Digital Podcaster more than once and you're enjoying the episodes, you've probably noticed that I don't have ads where I try and sell you something. The reason for that is because I'm just simply trying to share tools and strategies that will help you become a better Podcaster. If you're a repeat listener, all I ask is that you help the show by taking 30 seconds and leaving a quick rating and review. At rate this podcast.com/ Dylan, it really only takes 30. Helps the show out and it would mean the world to me. All you have to do is go to rate this podcast.com/ Dylan, D Y L A N. Thank you so much for listening. Taking a quick moment to do that. Let's dive back in. I hope the kind of like subtext of me sharing this stuff is like am I afraid that it's gonna come from my job or anything? Right. I think it's the people that utilize ChatGPT, that learn how to incorporate it into their lives, into their podcasts that are just gonna be at the advantage. It's kind of like, and I use this example quite a bit with clients, is like, No one's gonna give you an award for doing everything by yourself, as a listener. We're not, it's not, we're not selfish. We're just, we've got so much, we're inundated with content. There's too much out there. At the end of the day, it just matters about your listener. Like you, the person watching, you're listening to this, it all is about you at the, you're the end user here. So it's in your best interest as a podcast host to get help with the things that don't relate to you. talking on the microphone, right? and some things do relate to you talking on the microphone, like knowing who you're talking to, like being informed or setting the vision for where you want your podcast to go. you have to be the visionary. You have to look at where things are going to keep things exciting, right? The E-Myth Revisited breaks down this great. Um, so this idea comes from there, but there's basically like the entrepreneur, which is like the visionary, and below that is the manager, which is making sure that things are getting done. And then below that is the technician, and those are the ones that are like actually pressing buttons, and doing things like that. As a podcast host, I believe you need to be in that entrepreneur, visionary state, right? That is going to make the whole ship move. In the beginning, we don't have a manager or technician, we are typically doing things by ourselves. Even if you do., have a team help you. You probably still have to be in that manager state. typically no one just starts out in just a, uh, entrepreneur state and they have someone managing everything for them. I meet hardly anybody with that. it's usually the manager, entrepreneur when it comes to the technician part though, like the actual pressing of the buttons. Maybe it's doing research or writing emails, certain things like that. Get help. Get help because it will. Your quality of the recording, which is the part that like matters the most because that's being translated to the listener. It will make that part better. So those were three basic ideas that you could use for the recording process of how you could use ChatGPT, lighting, and video recommendations, how to make your actual set better. I know that kind of falls under the pre-production phase. when we're talking about just like recording and how it looks and all that stuff. That's why I'm kind of lumping it in there. Um, and then the technical support, like when you do go to record or you do have these issues going to there, you know, um, if it's in the moment or if it's something way more technical, of course reach out and like elevate that., I would, you know, ask you to task chat g b t with some of your more technical support questions when you're in the shower and you're like, you know what, how do I do this thing? Or you have this random thought at night. How do I do that thing? Ask it that, like, ask chat G b T. How do, how can I make my podcast sound like npr? You know, something like that. Um, which by the way, that would make a. Let's just end the, um, this episode with that, how can I make my podcast sound like npr? I'll ask it. That says, to make your podcast sound like npr. You can follow these steps, invest in quality equipment, pay attention to sound design, write script with purpose. I love that one. says, practice your delivery. Consider having guests. Edit carefully. It's another one. It just keeps going. It's pretty wordy, isn't it? Says use music and sound effects sparingly. That's cool. And that's it. How about that? So I'd be curious to know what interesting ideas you have about using, ChatGPT for your recording, part of the process of your podcast. In the next episode, we'll talk about the post-production. So after you've recorded, how can you use ChatGPT to market to promote your show, to grow your podcast, and we'll even cover some monetization tips. Hope you'll join me. I'll talk to you soon.
