My name is Dylan Schmidt and welcome to Digital Podcaster something about doing less work and working smarter, not harder, really lights me up. And that's why I'm excited to share this with you today. Because ultimately, the only way to scale your podcast and content creation and online business is to simplify and double down on what's working. And if your podcast is working, good news, you can repurpose that. And even if it's not working, you can still repurpose your podcast episodes into other pieces of content and that can help you grow your podcast, but also just grow your online business. So we're gonna talk about those five ways right now. Number one, you can repurpose your podcast episodes into other podcast episodes. So a smart strategy I see from a YouTuber, but he also has a podcast, Ali Abdaal, he'll take little snippets, little clips of previous episodes, say like a episode that he recorded a year ago, he'll take a clip of that and re release it like a year later. Say he had a episode this week, maybe he has his normal episode, but I'll also have a separate episode that's just a clip from an older podcast episode. And what's cool about that is one like, people don't want to have to re listen to the whole episode. So it's a great way to reuse something that you did. And if they want to listen to the whole episode, they can dive back in really easy. I think that's a brilliant strategy. And I think when done right, it just adds value. It's not burning your audience out on stuff that they've already listened to. So reusing your podcast episodes to create mini episodes, or to do like a compilation of sorts is another strategy of repurposing older episodes. I'll use myself as an example. I haven't done this one yet, but I could do it. Say I had a few episodes around monetization. I can make kind of like a monetization best of episode where it's featuring my best monetization tips in one podcast episode. Then you don't have to go around and hunt. But if you did want to dive deeper into one certain episode, you could go ahead and do that. I think that's a cool strategy. Number two, you can also repurpose your podcast episodes into YouTube videos. Say for example, like this episode, I could just clip out the part where I'm talking about YouTube videos. And if it's too long for shorts, it's over 60 seconds. I could make like a three to five minute clip about your podcast on YouTube videos and make this just its own YouTube video that goes up on there. So you're repurposing your podcast episodes for YouTube videos. It's also maybe a podcast on YouTube. And you could even still pull shorts from that. Also, you can repurpose your podcast episodes into digital products. If you've known me for a minute, you know, I love digital products and services, and that's how I monetize digital podcaster. So you could take your podcast episodes depending on your type of content, of course, but you can repurpose those, whether it is in something that you sell like an e-book or it's something like an online course. It doesn't always have to be educational, but it could be. And people are like, well, if it's available on the podcast, like do you take it down on the podcast, you only make it available for sale as a digital product. No, you don't have to do that. And let me explain because that sounds like weird and possibly kind of scammy, which is not what I'm saying. But for example, with digital podcaster, I put out a lot of help and information on podcasting. I also have podcast Academy, which goes into a level of depth, which I just can't do on this podcast. Also, there's like PDF downloads and resources and links to guides. It's like all this stuff. I can't put that I can't package that the same on this podcast. Now I don't repurpose this podcast for podcast Academy because I'm a crazy person who's pretty productive and I'm able to you know, do both and it's taken me a while to make podcast Academy what it is. But if you wanted to, you could use your podcast episodes if they fit inside of some type of digital product. As a It's a great starter. You're probably going to add the packaging a little different, maybe some extra links, or maybe you might have to add some things, but it might be all the starter you need. When I say digital products from your podcast episodes, the reality is it could stretch on a lot more than that. I say e-books, and I don't want to downplay the value of e-books, because we're talking even really physical books as well. You could write a whole book from doing your podcast. There's a company out there called, I'm going to probably butcher the name, I think it's called Scribe Media, and they essentially help you write your book. There's a lot of services out there like this, but they're kind of like ghost writers or I don't know what the actual term they like to be called is, but they will help you write your book. And they could take your podcast content, and I don't know exactly if they can do this because I haven't done this with them, but I know that there's companies out there that do this. They could take your podcast content and then help it become a book because you're already pulling so much into your podcast. That's what someone who turns content into books really needs. And they again might want to work with you on like how to exactly find the best parts of what you want to say your book to be about. It's not like you just hand over some podcast episodes and like, great, we'll come back with a book. They might do that, but like you're probably going to want to be more hands on. All that to say, you really could turn your podcast into all sorts of digital products, a physical book, an ebook, even something that's like to get people on your newsletter, which is the fifth one I'll talk about here in a second. It's 2023 and there are a million different podcast strategies you could be implementing. What if instead of trying everything you just focused on one thing, one thing that would really help you grow your audience and increase the revenue of your podcast. The fourth way you could repurpose your podcast episodes into other stuff is social media clips, which you know I love. I have the company content clips, which repurposes podcasts into social media clips. I'm going to be doubling down on this inside podcast academy. I had an aha last week of like, oh yeah, this is a huge part that have a lot of experience in over the years have made thousands of videos repurpose so many podcasts and other videos, not just podcasts into social media clips. It's already featured in podcast academy, but moving forward, it'll be an even bigger focus inside there, because it's something I'm asked about a lot, but repurpose your podcast episodes into clips. A lot of the top, let's say, Instagram reels, TikTok people you see in the business space, or even really the podcast space, like they don't have time to go in front of the camera and record additional content just for those social media platforms. They're repurposing podcast appearances. Now they might not look like the repurposing podcast appearances, it might look like they're doing it just for that platform. But that's because the packaging is made to look that way. It's like the Alex Hormozy, you'll see a lot of his content is podcast appearances, his editors will make it look more contextual to the platform that it's going on. And I just think it's such a great way to repurpose podcast episodes, because it works. There's people out there that say repurposing podcasts into social media clips doesn't work. I see that and I just want to engage with it. And then I'm like, this is just energy. I don't need to waste in it because it's just not true. I'd rather talk to the people that get it, but yeah, I'll just say it works a hundred percent. It works. And then the fifth way that you could repurpose your podcast episode into something else is into newsletters. So similar to social media clips and part of my content clips philosophy at like a high level is you make clips from your podcast and then those clips actually could become newsletter segments because your social media clips should have one main idea around them. Same with your newsletter. Your newsletter should have one main idea and you can get a transcription these days for free of your podcast but of your social media clips and then you could just transform that into a newsletter. Again, you want to make the packaging of the thing that you're repurposing it into contextual to what it's going on. If it's a YouTube video, you want it to look like a YouTube video. If it's a book, you want it to be a book, not just a book of transcriptions of your podcast. If it's social media clips, you want it to look like a social media clip. If it's a newsletter, you want it to be a newsletter. So that probably means rearranging what you say, how you say it. But instead of coming up with ideas from scratch, remix the idea that you've already created and all five of these ways of repurposing your podcast episodes is just a way for you to work smarter, not harder because the stuff can be exhausting. I know it's exhausting because I talk to people about it every single day, but people get burnt out. They hit their limit of what's possible. They have trouble scaling it. Their virtual assistants have trouble keeping up with the level of output. So you don't have to do all five of these ways to repurpose your podcast episodes, but even if you just did one and you weren't doing it before or if you did one a little bit better, you improved one way. That is a win in my book and I hope you see it as a win too. So be curious what you thought of this if you're doing one if you're going to be improving one like what's out to you here. Send me a message on Instagram at Digital Podcaster. I'd love to hear from you and chat. I will talk to you in the next episode.
