But there"},{"startTime":44.985,"endTime":48.585,"body":"are certain things podcast host do that I think"},{"startTime":48.585,"endTime":52.345,"body":"stop people from listening. And a lot of podcast hosts"},{"startTime":52.345,"endTime":56.105,"body":"either are aware or unaware of them. So I might list"},{"startTime":56.105,"endTime":59.87,"body":"something here that you might find yourself doing or you might"},{"startTime":59.87,"endTime":62.67,"body":"do and you might not even know that you do it or you might not"},{"startTime":62.67,"endTime":66.27,"body":"do all of them. Starting with filler words. Examples of filler"},{"startTime":66.27,"endTime":70.11,"body":"words are like the word I just actually said a filler word when I"},{"startTime":70.11,"endTime":73.915,"body":"was saying that like. Like is one of my crutch filler words. There's"},{"startTime":73.915,"endTime":77.695,"body":"also, so, you know."},{"startTime":78.155,"endTime":81.915,"body":"These words, usually what they're doing is trying to buy our brain"},{"startTime":81.915,"endTime":85.755,"body":"more time to think of what we wanna say. And if you were to look"},{"startTime":85.755,"endTime":89.6,"body":"at late night TV show hosts, for example, you would see they do"},{"startTime":89.6,"endTime":93.439,"body":"not use many filler words. Now completely eliminating all filler"},{"startTime":93.439,"endTime":97.28,"body":"words from your vocabulary might sound robotic. So the goal is"},{"startTime":97.28,"endTime":100.96,"body":"to not have any filler words. It's just to be mindful of the"},{"startTime":100.96,"endTime":104.615,"body":"words that you're using. And if you're using certain words"},{"startTime":104.755,"endTime":108.515,"body":"to fill in time for your brain to catch up, know that you can"},{"startTime":108.515,"endTime":112.354,"body":"just take a pause. Go slower. Nobody's gonna cut in. The"},{"startTime":112.354,"endTime":115.95,"body":"big problem with filler words is that they become a distraction. And I"},{"startTime":115.95,"endTime":119.63,"body":"hear people that go on podcasts that aren't used to being on podcasts, maybe"},{"startTime":119.63,"endTime":123.39,"body":"they've only been on one podcast or it's their first podcast interview. They'll"},{"startTime":123.39,"endTime":127.01,"body":"use so many filler words that it becomes distracting."},{"startTime":127.07,"endTime":130.884,"body":"And as a listener, that's what I focus on most is they keep"},{"startTime":130.884,"endTime":134.185,"body":"saying you know or like and then I start"},{"startTime":134.245,"endTime":137.765,"body":"just zeroing in on those words and I'm missing the"},{"startTime":137.765,"endTime":141.145,"body":"message of what they're actually saying. Now this is kinda similar"},{"startTime":145.02,"endTime":148.7,"body":"to stuttering, but I don't have the exact definition of"},{"startTime":148.7,"endTime":152.38,"body":"stuttering. And I don't think it's exactly the same as stuttering, but it's"},{"startTime":152.38,"endTime":156.22,"body":"usually repeating words. So, like, so, like, what I was gonna say, notice"},{"startTime":156.22,"endTime":159.815,"body":"how I said that. That also included a filler word for a bonus. But podcast"},{"startTime":159.815,"endTime":163.575,"body":"hosts will repeat words, and I don't exactly know why part"},{"startTime":163.575,"endTime":167.254,"body":"of me thinks it's because a lack of confidence to committing what they're about to"},{"startTime":167.254,"endTime":170.77,"body":"say. That's my hunch. But I hear them a lot. And when I hear"},{"startTime":170.83,"endTime":174.37,"body":"them done, it comes off to me as just like a insecurity."},{"startTime":174.83,"endTime":178.11,"body":"I guess to give you another example if it's not clear already is what I"},{"startTime":178.11,"endTime":181.95,"body":"mean is, like, what I mean is and people will do this. You know, sometimes"},{"startTime":181.95,"endTime":185.695,"body":"they're excited, but it's not always when they're excited. Sometimes they just do it when"},{"startTime":185.695,"endTime":189.475,"body":"they're about to ask a question or they're following up after a guest"},{"startTime":189.615,"endTime":193.455,"body":"finishes what they're sharing. And again, a really easy way to remedy"},{"startTime":193.455,"endTime":197.215,"body":"it is just to slow down. Try to be intentional. Try to breathe."},{"startTime":197.215,"endTime":200.97,"body":"When we're recording, it can feel like one second of silence is"},{"startTime":200.97,"endTime":204.81,"body":"five seconds of silence, and it feels awkward. If I was interviewing myself and I was doing what I'm talking about,"},{"startTime":230.36,"endTime":233.819,"body":"I go, Dylan, so tell me about, like, what is it that guests"},{"startTime":234.12,"endTime":237.879,"body":"do to get in their own way? Last thing I wanna mention here on this episode"},{"startTime":299.25,"endTime":303.065,"body":"is something that is different than what you do in a normal conversation. Yeah. Oh, yeah. That makes sense. So a lot of"},{"startTime":324.96,"endTime":328.72,"body":"crosstalk can happen when you're affirming what the guest is saying.
