[00:00:00]
Here's to you dear listeners and welcome to another episode of Metal Gear Mondays, the
[00:00:14]
most thorough death stranding podcast on the internet.
[00:00:18]
What I'm your host Sam Wright.
[00:00:21]
We're back.
[00:00:22]
We're numbered baby.
[00:00:23]
It's happening.
[00:00:24]
I'm joined by Alessio.
[00:00:30]
I'm joined by Mr. Sam Mann himself.
[00:00:34]
Film man and Sam man back at it again.
[00:00:37]
Mr. Sam Mann.
[00:00:38]
Yeah.
[00:00:39]
Unfortunately, we are not joined by Mr. Isaac Lim man, but we are here.
[00:00:41]
Yeah.
[00:00:42]
You say you say that little clip, Mr. Sam Mann.
[00:00:44]
Have you seen that video of that tick talk of that cat?
[00:00:46]
No, I don't think so.
[00:00:48]
Oh, okay.
[00:00:49]
We're not.
[00:00:50]
We're an alert.
[00:00:51]
Yeah.
[00:00:52]
There's this video of this cat like they've synced it up to this to Mr. Sam and it's maybe
[00:00:56]
the best.
[00:00:58]
But yeah.
[00:00:59]
No, it's just very funny and I have to I'm texting it to you right now.
[00:01:01]
We're not listening to it because it's just Mr. Sam Mann if you listen to it.
[00:01:06]
But it'll be in the show notes for the thing.
[00:01:09]
Yeah.
[00:01:10]
The website.
[00:01:11]
It'll be in the show notes or you can if you're you can be you look up tick tock Mr.
[00:01:14]
Sam and cat.
[00:01:15]
It's maybe it's a stroke of genius.
[00:01:18]
Tick tock is starting to just trying.
[00:01:19]
Nice.
[00:01:21]
produce fruits with which the Internet can say to feast desire for short form comedy.
[00:01:29]
Sam, if you were rated M for mature, would it be for blood intense violence, partial
[00:01:35]
nudity and strong language?
[00:01:37]
Yeah, baby.
[00:01:39]
I already am rated M for mature fuckers.
[00:01:42]
Can I get that full nudity though?
[00:01:43]
Like why can't we see Sam's dick?
[00:01:46]
We're going to bring that up at least once on every episode, I think.
[00:01:50]
Oh, oh, Sam Porter bridge.
[00:01:52]
I was just like, I mean, you can if you really want it.
[00:01:57]
No, I need Sam to build a bridge from me to him.
[00:02:03]
I need that penis.
[00:02:05]
I'm sorry.
[00:02:05]
I need that pain.
[00:02:06]
If anybody who's listening to the show wants to see my dick, my no, you're becoming
[00:02:11]
approach it.
[00:02:12]
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, you fucking ruin the joke.
[00:02:17]
I was going to say, I was going to say anybody who listens to the show wants to see my dick,
[00:02:23]
me, Sam, dick, then that's too fucking bad.
[00:02:26]
He's staying.
[00:02:27]
That's staying with me.
[00:02:30]
Staying prepared and letting loose is what that's doing.
[00:02:33]
Yeah, prepared.
[00:02:35]
So yeah, we're.
[00:02:37]
Wow.
[00:02:38]
Why does it say it's a character spotlight trailer?
[00:02:41]
For this.
[00:02:42]
Because it's technically it's a quote character spotlight for Luden's fan played by Jeff
[00:02:47]
Keely, but it's really a gameplay trailer.
[00:02:50]
Did you say gameplay?
[00:02:51]
It's like a very game play.
[00:02:52]
What is wrong with you today?
[00:02:54]
Play.
[00:02:56]
Are you OK?
[00:02:57]
So is he the Ludens fan or is there a fan
[00:03:01]
that generates Lude?
[00:03:03]
I don't I'm not sure.
[00:03:05]
No, so if you look at the if you look at the trailer,
[00:03:08]
oh, because he's got the posters in there.
[00:03:10]
He's a fan.
[00:03:10]
Yeah.
[00:03:11]
So it's the this is as preppers.
[00:03:15]
Ludens fan played by Jeff Keely, voiced by Matthew Mercer.
[00:03:19]
I see a lot of names there.
[00:03:21]
Yeah, no, but yeah, Ludens fan is his.
[00:03:23]
He's the name of him.
[00:03:24]
He's probably he's like a side character.
[00:03:26]
Gotcha. OK.
[00:03:27]
And it looks like it's a subcategory of characters.
[00:03:30]
Like there's a there's a group of characters called preppers.
[00:03:33]
And that's just his name.
[00:03:34]
And they seem like side side quests.
[00:03:36]
And we got pumpers and pumpers better than a humper's
[00:03:39]
for you to mimic fans out there.
[00:03:45]
Yeah, this is going to be this is a weird this is a weird trailer.
[00:03:48]
This is a weird episode.
[00:03:49]
We're going to have some weird fucking weeks between now and November 8th
[00:03:51]
and then even we're two weeks.
[00:03:53]
So well, after November, yeah, this is fly by night.
[00:03:57]
This is official Metal Gear Mondays death stranding trailer season.
[00:04:03]
Game coverage.
[00:04:04]
There might be some little some little twists and turns before November the 8th,
[00:04:08]
but we're in it.
[00:04:09]
Can we change the name of our podcast to the Death Gear podcast?
[00:04:13]
Yeah, how do we do that?
[00:04:14]
Is that going to be weird? I don't know.
[00:04:16]
I think I think what I could do is call it like Metal Gear Mondays colon.
[00:04:20]
And instead of right now, I think says Metal Gear Mondays, a Metal Gear solid
[00:04:23]
podcast could easily make it Metal Gear Mondays, a Metal Gear solid slash
[00:04:27]
Death Stranding podcast.
[00:04:30]
But I don't want to get rid of I know I don't want to get rid of Metal Gear
[00:04:33]
solid because I think that's what's giving us all over SEO.
[00:04:36]
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:04:37]
We'll figure out.
[00:04:38]
I like if you're listening to this and you have ideas, please let us know.
[00:04:41]
Death Gear.
[00:04:43]
Tell me how death gear is just the best idea you've ever heard.
[00:04:47]
Death raise.
[00:04:49]
You'd be right. Death race to race more dead.
[00:04:54]
Get him.
[00:04:55]
Got got get him.
[00:05:00]
Death race for get him.
[00:05:04]
Colen death.
[00:05:05]
Race death race.
[00:05:06]
Death race five.
[00:05:08]
You got him.
[00:05:12]
They got got got.
[00:05:15]
But I was six.
[00:05:16]
You got got.
[00:05:17]
Oh, no.
[00:05:18]
Get get death.
[00:05:20]
Race six.
[00:05:20]
Get gone before you get got.
[00:05:22]
I love it.
[00:05:23]
Got it.
[00:05:24]
Got it.
[00:05:24]
Fantastic.
[00:05:25]
We got it.
[00:05:25]
We're there.
[00:05:26]
We made it.
[00:05:27]
Yeah.
[00:05:30]
But yeah.
[00:05:32]
So we're we are coming off of our.
[00:05:37]
We're coming off of our previous episode, right?
[00:05:39]
Where we did the character videos and now we're going to be doing quote unquote a
[00:05:43]
gameplay video.
[00:05:46]
Yeah.
[00:05:47]
Sam, Sam, what is what does if you had to describe a death strand in gameplay
[00:05:50]
video to somebody on the street?
[00:05:51]
What would you call?
[00:05:52]
What would you say?
[00:05:54]
And.
[00:05:58]
You sleep, you pee, and then you climb a ladder.
[00:06:01]
Oh, shit, dude.
[00:06:01]
So it's like painting houses for a living, essentially.
[00:06:04]
Yep.
[00:06:05]
Yep.
[00:06:06]
I expressed this a little bit.
[00:06:08]
Last week.
[00:06:10]
I'm just afraid that this game is going to be boring.
[00:06:16]
Like.
[00:06:18]
I don't know, which is weird because so we've had a lot of discussions on our
[00:06:21]
discord.
[00:06:22]
If you're a patron, you absolutely have access, so you should be on here.
[00:06:27]
We had a discussion on our discord about.
[00:06:30]
We were talking about how games like control and remedies, other games and even
[00:06:35]
Kojima's best games.
[00:06:36]
They're all games that are super fucking weird and keep you interested because
[00:06:39]
of how weird they are.
[00:06:43]
I kind of feel like this game isn't weird enough to keep me interested.
[00:06:47]
That's what I'm that's what I'm nervous about.
[00:06:49]
Like, I feel like it could be weirder.
[00:06:51]
It just seems like this trailer, the pace of this trailer.
[00:06:56]
Like it's six and a half minutes of some shit that I could say to you in 20
[00:07:00]
seconds.
[00:07:03]
Yeah.
[00:07:03]
And so like, I don't know, man, the pace of the trailer doesn't match the
[00:07:07]
weirdness of what we've been made to believe is coming.
[00:07:10]
Yeah.
[00:07:11]
Do you think they're going to pull a twist?
[00:07:13]
Do you think there's like an 11th hour twist in the mix?
[00:07:14]
Or do you think this is just straight up?
[00:07:18]
This is what it is.
[00:07:20]
I mean, at this stage, I mean, there's got to be right.
[00:07:23]
Like it's it's.
[00:07:25]
I don't know.
[00:07:25]
It just feels so like it like the story around it, I think is going to be very
[00:07:29]
interesting, but I think like the game itself is just seems very mundane.
[00:07:33]
And I don't know if I like that.
[00:07:35]
I think we talked about we talked a little bit off of off camera off camera,
[00:07:38]
off mic about about.
[00:07:43]
Like, like how the pacing of it that I wasn't a fan of Red Dead two's pacing
[00:07:49]
because it just felt I just felt bored.
[00:07:52]
And that's kind of how I'm seeing this.
[00:07:54]
It feels like the pacing is.
[00:07:58]
Slow and might be similar.
[00:08:00]
Yeah.
[00:08:01]
The weird thing about Red Dead that happened with me was I enjoyed it more
[00:08:05]
when I was thinking back on it and imagining playing it.
[00:08:09]
Then I did playing it.
[00:08:12]
Does that make sense?
[00:08:14]
Yes.
[00:08:14]
And I'm a little nervous that this is going to be kind of the same way.
[00:08:17]
Don't get me wrong.
[00:08:17]
I definitely like this idea of like.
[00:08:21]
Being at home dimming the lights, setting aside four or five hours
[00:08:25]
and just kind of wandering and just seeing what happens.
[00:08:29]
Like I did enjoy that aspect of Red Dead, but when it came time to like,
[00:08:33]
all right, now I want to go through this story that's been prepared for me.
[00:08:36]
It was just like.
[00:08:39]
Some super generic story stuff.
[00:08:41]
And I was like, fuck, man.
[00:08:43]
So I think in Red Dead's case, it's like I liked the pace,
[00:08:46]
but when I wanted to dig into the story, the pace kind of hindered it.
[00:08:51]
But with, but with, but with this, I do kind of feel like these cutscenes
[00:08:55]
that we're seeing seem like there's shit going on.
[00:08:58]
But what I'm nervous about is like what I'm nervous about
[00:08:59]
with most open world games, which is like, am I going to have to walk
[00:09:02]
for 45 minutes at one direction just to get to a fucking cutscene?
[00:09:09]
So I don't know.
[00:09:10]
It's going to be interesting to find out.
[00:09:11]
I'm afraid of that too.
[00:09:13]
It's just like it's it doesn't feel I'm afraid.
[00:09:16]
I'm afraid it's not going to feel rewarding.
[00:09:19]
Yeah, I think it is my issue.
[00:09:21]
If I had to put money on something.
[00:09:24]
The quote unquote twist.
[00:09:26]
I don't think there's going to be like a plot twist.
[00:09:29]
I think we're just going to learn about the plot and that's going to be a twist
[00:09:31]
enough, but I think the twist is going to be that multiplayer is going
[00:09:37]
to have a huge fucking hand in this game and we have not been shown any of it.
[00:09:42]
Yeah.
[00:09:42]
Like, I think that's the twist.
[00:09:43]
Like, I think there are going to be a lot more.
[00:09:47]
Ways that this interacts and intersects with passive multiplayer.
[00:09:53]
Then we've been shown.
[00:09:55]
Yeah, which I've also expressed my concerns about, but like I'm
[00:09:58]
all with all judgment on that.
[00:09:59]
Yeah, I haven't I haven't seen anybody experiment with something like super
[00:10:04]
huge and multiplayer focused like this.
[00:10:08]
So I am excited just to see like what the fuck it is.
[00:10:12]
But I do worry that like if all of the focus is on some sort of multiplayer
[00:10:16]
component that like.
[00:10:19]
I don't know.
[00:10:19]
I mean, clearly there are cutscenes.
[00:10:21]
I almost wonder if somebody if they if if if Kojima's team has GTA
[00:10:25]
online this game.
[00:10:28]
Oh, where there's like story where there's like story cutscenes and stuff,
[00:10:32]
but like it still ties to like big multiplayer group activities and stuff.
[00:10:37]
Does that make sense?
[00:10:38]
Yeah.
[00:10:40]
It's not very exciting.
[00:10:41]
No, I don't like that at all.
[00:10:43]
Yeah.
[00:10:45]
So I don't.
[00:10:46]
Yeah, I I think the twist is going to be multiplayer related.
[00:10:50]
If I had to guess.
[00:10:51]
Interesting.
[00:10:53]
I don't know.
[00:10:54]
I like like like multiplayer.
[00:10:56]
Include like I has there's been some good like it can be implemented good.
[00:11:02]
I just don't think that Kojima is going to do that.
[00:11:06]
Yeah, because for the record, Metal Gear has never an eye.
[00:11:09]
This is going to sound like blasphemy for people who like MGO one, two or three.
[00:11:14]
All of the online components of Metal Gear have always felt really janky.
[00:11:19]
Mm hmm.
[00:11:19]
Like and in MGO's case, it was good.
[00:11:22]
Especially MGO three.
[00:11:23]
Yeah.
[00:11:24]
And I think in MGO's case, it was kind of endearing, but I think it's never felt
[00:11:28]
like well put together.
[00:11:31]
Yeah.
[00:11:32]
So like I'm nervous if like a whole fucking game is being built on multiplayer
[00:11:36]
skeleton parts.
[00:11:39]
Like what the hell is that going to play like?
[00:11:42]
And hopefully they got somebody who knows what they're doing to get behind
[00:11:46]
the steering wheel a little bit.
[00:11:50]
Yeah.
[00:11:50]
Yeah, I don't know.
[00:11:52]
Anyway, I have no clue.
[00:11:54]
I'm scared of this game.
[00:11:56]
Let's see.
[00:11:57]
Yeah, Sam, I feel like we've only been shown.
[00:11:59]
So it's interesting.
[00:12:00]
We've been shown little snippets of Sam walking through deserts.
[00:12:03]
For some reason, any time we're shown meaningful gameplay, it's always
[00:12:06]
this sort of like Alpine hilltop.
[00:12:10]
Yeah, like it's very like green and.
[00:12:13]
There's some places that are a little bit snowy to.
[00:12:16]
Yeah, but like what's going on?
[00:12:17]
Why can't we see the the weird rainy city where he encounters the Homo Ludens?
[00:12:22]
Like why can't we see?
[00:12:25]
You know what I mean?
[00:12:26]
Like why are we being relegated to just the gameplay in the grass area?
[00:12:31]
Yeah, because the nail conjume is fucking weird.
[00:12:33]
Yeah.
[00:12:35]
I'm I don't know.
[00:12:38]
I'm both excited and very afraid that it is going to be a disappointment.
[00:12:43]
Yeah, same.
[00:12:46]
I just like I just yeah, I don't know.
[00:12:47]
I I don't think here's the thing.
[00:12:50]
I don't think it's going to be bad.
[00:12:51]
Yeah, I don't think it's going to be bad either.
[00:12:52]
I think it's going to be a bad game.
[00:12:55]
Can I look at Jim on his worst day doesn't make a bad game?
[00:12:57]
That's that's just true.
[00:13:01]
I'm just concerned that it's not going to be great.
[00:13:05]
You know what I mean?
[00:13:05]
Like it's going to be serviceable, but it's not going to be this groundbreaking thing.
[00:13:10]
And I think a lot of people are expecting it to be that.
[00:13:12]
And it's going to hurt them in the long run.
[00:13:14]
Yeah, especially if you go back to last episode,
[00:13:17]
the people that I'm talking about that are like, this is the second coming of Christ.
[00:13:21]
Like I think that's a bad thing to do going into this.
[00:13:27]
Yeah.
[00:13:28]
So have it up for yourself and then drop back to earth.
[00:13:33]
Yeah.
[00:13:33]
Also, does this mean that Death Stranding is officially non eligible for the.
[00:13:40]
Game Awards Game of the Year?
[00:13:42]
Nomination because it has Jeff Kealy in it.
[00:13:46]
Oh, like some fucking conflict of interest shit.
[00:13:49]
Yeah.
[00:13:51]
No, maybe.
[00:13:52]
Yeah, I don't know.
[00:13:53]
Anyway, let's talk about Norman Reedus's invisible penis.
[00:14:00]
Yeah, you want to you want to set the stage?
[00:14:03]
Yeah, so effectively when we come in, we are we are hit with preppers.
[00:14:08]
Ludens fan Jeff Kealy voice actor Matthew Mercer title card,
[00:14:13]
as we had already kind of mentioned.
[00:14:14]
So just so you guys know, because Kojima is capturing the souls of his friends
[00:14:18]
and putting them in a video game, Jeff Kealy is in this game.
[00:14:22]
And boy, boy, am I glad that Matthew Mercer is his voice,
[00:14:25]
because if I had to hear Ludens fan say Mario at any point,
[00:14:31]
I would lose my fucking mind.
[00:14:34]
What makes you think that he would say Mario at all?
[00:14:36]
Because Jeff Kealy has said Mario.
[00:14:38]
A lot.
[00:14:39]
Well, no, no, in the game.
[00:14:40]
I mean, oh, I'm sure I'm within the context of the game.
[00:14:44]
I don't know.
[00:14:44]
It would have been very funny if Sam's partner in crime that we do not know
[00:14:48]
about is revealed day one to be named Mario.
[00:14:52]
Yeah, my name is Mario.
[00:14:54]
Greetings, Ludens fan.
[00:14:56]
I feel like Ludens fan sounds like the beginning of a shitty AIM handle.
[00:14:59]
Ludens fan 666 triple X like XX underscore Ludens fan XX.
[00:15:07]
Dick Kojima's husband.
[00:15:12]
But yeah, so we are immediately greeted to Norman Reedus
[00:15:16]
wearing some sleepy boy, some hiking gear, sleeping with what looks like five
[00:15:22]
packages on his back and a bridge's ball cap.
[00:15:27]
There's a prompt on screen to press circle to wake up.
[00:15:32]
Because he's a sleepy sheepie.
[00:15:34]
Yeah. And then he just says like, and I don't know if it's like V.O.
[00:15:37]
or him under his breath or what, but then he says just a little longer.
[00:15:41]
And thankfully, the person playing the game decides to honor that and let him sleep.
[00:15:48]
Just a little longer.
[00:15:49]
Just a little.
[00:15:49]
He presses. He presses circle.
[00:15:51]
He wakes up, press square to grab a brush.
[00:15:55]
First triangle to put a little makeup and then you're on your way.
[00:16:01]
Yeah. So here's the deal.
[00:16:04]
I don't like it when games say
[00:16:08]
you got to take care of this thing.
[00:16:11]
Like we're going to interrupt your is weird coming from somebody who likes
[00:16:13]
JRPGs where it's like, hey, we're going to interrupt your walking to just press
[00:16:16]
a bunch of times till these things die.
[00:16:19]
But the fact that this game is going to be like, yo, dude, you got to pee.
[00:16:22]
Yo, dude, you got to sleep.
[00:16:24]
Yo, dude, you got to take care of your baby.
[00:16:26]
Like, oh, my God.
[00:16:30]
I hate the Sims because I have to look at meters all day.
[00:16:34]
I don't want to look at meters in this game.
[00:16:37]
Why are you doing this?
[00:16:39]
Yeah, I'm an animal crossing kid.
[00:16:41]
I want to design a T shirt.
[00:16:42]
I don't want to have to regulate my pee pee.
[00:16:46]
If I want to do that, I'll do that in real life.
[00:16:47]
I got a dog that I have to take outside so that he can pee and that's frustrating.
[00:16:52]
So why would I want to let Norman read us out to urinate?
[00:16:58]
You got to prepare and let it go, dude.
[00:16:59]
Let loose.
[00:17:00]
Yeah, Sam, do you think I really wish that they would do it to where no matter
[00:17:04]
even if you weren't playing, that you'd get like a text notification that's
[00:17:08]
just like your Norman Reedus is ready to use the bathroom.
[00:17:11]
And then you got to log into your PS4.
[00:17:14]
Wait until I get back on my PS4.
[00:17:17]
Normie is going to have to wait till I get back home.
[00:17:19]
And when I get back home, there better not be a piece of mail on the carpet.
[00:17:22]
Norman Reedus.
[00:17:25]
Norman.
[00:17:26]
But yeah, you do.
[00:17:27]
Normans rocking some shades, too.
[00:17:29]
I we even I don't think we've ever talked about this.
[00:17:32]
So Kojima keeps saying everybody can customize their own Norman Reedus.
[00:17:37]
You customize it.
[00:17:38]
Can you customize the dick?
[00:17:40]
I just don't give a shit to customize Norman Reedus.
[00:17:44]
But can you customize the dick?
[00:17:47]
I don't know.
[00:17:48]
Alessio.
[00:17:51]
Can you customize of a dick?
[00:17:57]
One can only hope.
[00:17:58]
I hope it's DLC and that's dick loadable content.
[00:18:03]
Get your dick customization options.
[00:18:05]
Oh, no, dick armor.
[00:18:07]
Sam. Dick armor, $100.
[00:18:09]
He's got another pair of shoes that's like hanging from his belt.
[00:18:14]
Oh, good.
[00:18:14]
Do you think that our shoes will degrade and I'll have to put on some new
[00:18:17]
shoes in the middle of hiking?
[00:18:19]
I swear to fuck, I probably.
[00:18:21]
Dude, if this game is just like CJ from San Andreas, eating and gym.
[00:18:26]
The game like I just shit.
[00:18:28]
Here we go again.
[00:18:32]
Yeah.
[00:18:33]
So yeah, so we're talking about pee pee because like so fucking concerned now.
[00:18:37]
Yeah, less than I was.
[00:18:38]
Oh, you were concerned before.
[00:18:40]
Now I'm now I'm really concerned.
[00:18:42]
Is it because I've told you that you're going to have to take care
[00:18:44]
of your Barbie doll Norman Reedus?
[00:18:46]
Yeah.
[00:18:48]
Yeah, fuck.
[00:18:50]
I don't need a pet, you guys.
[00:18:51]
I want to play a game.
[00:18:53]
I was bad at Tamagotchi's back in the day.
[00:18:56]
What about Rita Gatchez?
[00:18:58]
I'm going to be bad at Rita Gatchez, too.
[00:19:01]
I just hope I can give mine a really sick tattoo and like a grill.
[00:19:06]
Yes.
[00:19:08]
Take them on down to Grove Street.
[00:19:10]
Oh, yeah.
[00:19:10]
So here we go again.
[00:19:13]
So within 56 seconds of pressing the play button, we are presented with a UI
[00:19:20]
marker that says 246.
[00:19:22]
What's that number?
[00:19:23]
It's milliliters.
[00:19:24]
Milliliters of what?
[00:19:25]
Milliliters of your.
[00:19:27]
That's a murine right there.
[00:19:29]
Yes.
[00:19:29]
And the message says, be considerate and relieve yourself away from other
[00:19:32]
people and their property.
[00:19:34]
Use L2 to prepare an R2 to let loose.
[00:19:41]
But you know what Norman Reedus does?
[00:19:42]
He breaks that rule.
[00:19:43]
He says, this is Mother Nature's property, but I'm going to pee on it.
[00:19:46]
Yeah.
[00:19:47]
You're not my real daddy.
[00:19:48]
Can't tell me what to do.
[00:19:49]
I don't know if you notice this or not.
[00:19:50]
Before he starts to let loose, the milliliter contents of urine
[00:19:55]
actually goes up by one milliliter.
[00:19:57]
It goes from 246 to 247.
[00:20:00]
Oh, so he's filling up.
[00:20:03]
Oddly enough, means Sam, we're talking about this.
[00:20:05]
The guy who's playing the gameplay demo keeps trying to rotate the
[00:20:08]
camera to see Norman's dick and Nord.
[00:20:10]
Well, he wants to see that customized dick.
[00:20:15]
Yeah, Norman is not having it.
[00:20:17]
He does like a very like.
[00:20:21]
What would you call it?
[00:20:22]
He like he like whips that stream and then out the direction.
[00:20:25]
Oh, yeah. He's like, no, no, no, not for looking.
[00:20:30]
I wish he said I wish he said those exact words.
[00:20:35]
No, no, not for looking.
[00:20:37]
Um, Norman Reedus.
[00:20:38]
So two, two things have been right after a holographic mushroom appears.
[00:20:45]
Yes, that's very strange.
[00:20:47]
That's where my friend, Mario, was going to come into the picture, by the way.
[00:20:49]
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:20:50]
But then the other thing too is I noticed in the distance, a big white light
[00:20:54]
shining down from the sky down into something.
[00:20:59]
Now, I don't know if that's like a red dead thing with the smoking camps.
[00:21:02]
If it's just like, oh, that's another Ludens fanhole.
[00:21:06]
Fanhole.
[00:21:08]
But yeah, Norman Reedus doesn't give a shit about this mushroom.
[00:21:10]
He just starts walking.
[00:21:11]
We get these weird, unique animations of him dodging rocks.
[00:21:14]
I wonder how many walking animations that they have recorded.
[00:21:18]
Then inexplicably.
[00:21:22]
A voice that sounds like nothing on screen could be producing it.
[00:21:27]
Starts to yell over here.
[00:21:30]
And like, I'm Sam.
[00:21:33]
Can you hear me?
[00:21:34]
Yeah.
[00:21:35]
And allegedly this is Norman Reedus' voice.
[00:21:38]
It sounds nothing.
[00:21:39]
Yeah, not at all.
[00:21:41]
Like, what's going on?
[00:21:42]
Also, who the fuck is he yelling at?
[00:21:44]
I think he's yelling at Ludens fan.
[00:21:46]
But Ludens fan, if you look at that, if you look at when he's yelling,
[00:21:49]
he is so fucking far away.
[00:21:51]
So far away.
[00:21:53]
Also, if you look to the left while he's yelling,
[00:21:55]
there's like this weird looking, like, lighthouse fixture in the distance
[00:22:01]
with a big white orb on top of it.
[00:22:04]
Yeah.
[00:22:05]
And then he lays down this like weird little overlay,
[00:22:07]
kind of like scan the environment kind of thing.
[00:22:10]
And then I guess you can zoom in and like place a marker and stuff.
[00:22:13]
And it says what it is.
[00:22:15]
And like the little shoulder mounted doodad kind of scans the environment for you.
[00:22:20]
But again, Ludens fan is, let me look at this video real quick.
[00:22:24]
It'll tell me the exact distance.
[00:22:25]
I think it's like 200 plus meters away, 194 meters away.
[00:22:29]
Who the fuck are you yelling at, Norman Reedus?
[00:22:35]
Yeah, why then he's yelling.
[00:22:36]
He's yelling at anyone.
[00:22:39]
And ask anybody here.
[00:22:40]
Calling randomly calling for help.
[00:22:42]
Is that like, like, yeah, I don't.
[00:22:45]
I never picked up on that.
[00:22:46]
That's very weird.
[00:22:46]
Yeah, which is like, it feels like the opposite thing you'd want to do
[00:22:49]
when he's trying to avoid these like roving bandits based on the previous
[00:22:53]
trailer that we saw.
[00:22:55]
So also towards this section, we get like a little save complete auto save.
[00:22:59]
That's like a little star in the bottom right hand corner, which I noticed.
[00:23:03]
Here's where I think the multiplayer shit comes in though, Sam.
[00:23:06]
When it's auto saving to the right of Sam is this weird little, like
[00:23:11]
what looks like a connectivity flag with a red X.
[00:23:16]
So I wonder if the game was trying to scan for an online connection
[00:23:20]
when it auto saved and maybe they didn't have it online.
[00:23:24]
Probably on purpose, I'd imagine.
[00:23:26]
Yeah.
[00:23:26]
So I think we're, I don't think we're getting the full picture here.
[00:23:30]
Are we ever?
[00:23:31]
I don't know.
[00:23:32]
Also, I'm noticing this is weird when he's walking up the mountain for like a split
[00:23:36]
second, you see like a shimmering of like some invisible creatures to the right
[00:23:41]
of the screen.
[00:23:44]
I think it's like at, hold on.
[00:23:47]
It's like at two minutes and 12, two minutes and 10, like right on the right hand side
[00:23:51]
of the screen, right above the rocks.
[00:23:54]
And I don't know if it's just like the wind kicking up dirt.
[00:23:57]
Two 10, two 10 to the right with the rocks.
[00:24:01]
It definitely looks like BTs.
[00:24:03]
Two 10 to the right to the rocks.
[00:24:07]
It's a new club.
[00:24:07]
Well, that, that, yeah, that, well, that begs the question then to the right with the
[00:24:11]
rocks.
[00:24:15]
You see him?
[00:24:17]
No, I'm getting there.
[00:24:19]
Two 10 to the right with the rocks.
[00:24:23]
Oh yeah.
[00:24:24]
Oh yeah.
[00:24:24]
Who is this?
[00:24:25]
Who is this?
[00:24:26]
I don't know.
[00:24:27]
Well, that does beg the question then, right?
[00:24:28]
Then the BTs have been like, if that, if that is what, if we're not just seeing things
[00:24:34]
and that is what we think it is, then like, what is it?
[00:24:36]
Like, are there tranquil BTs that you don't like have to worry about spooking?
[00:24:42]
Like, like, what's the, like, what's the story there?
[00:24:47]
What's going on there?
[00:24:48]
Yeah, I don't know.
[00:24:50]
Um, and then Sam approaches this weird little hut and we get a little thing up at the top
[00:24:55]
right, almost like a Dark Souls style title card or whatever that says Ludens fan S02 dash
[00:25:01]
01 West of capital, not city.
[00:25:05]
So is not city a capital or are there multiple not cities and one of them is a capital, not
[00:25:11]
city?
[00:25:13]
I'm not sure.
[00:25:14]
All I know is I don't like saying not city quickly.
[00:25:18]
Um, also not not, not so bitch.
[00:25:21]
Also the site of this weird little hanger, it's straight up just got a Kojima
[00:25:24]
productions logo.
[00:25:26]
There's a thing that says AMS six and it says from Sabians to Ludens or excuse me,
[00:25:30]
AMS S and then just straight up in here, diagetically in the world, we have a bunch
[00:25:34]
of movie posters of the Kojima productions logo guy.
[00:25:38]
I think I still believe that that whale in the moon shit.
[00:25:41]
I think that's in death stranding, dude.
[00:25:44]
Like, I don't think that the little intro for Kojima productions is like removed
[00:25:49]
from what is happening in this game.
[00:25:52]
Hmm.
[00:25:53]
Um, just because like the whale and all that water effects stuff, it just looks so
[00:25:57]
in game to me.
[00:25:59]
Yeah, maybe perhaps.
[00:26:02]
But anyway, we get to this little delivery terminal and it's got a couple
[00:26:05]
options as take on orders, make delivery, claim materials, recycle in trust, cargo
[00:26:11]
for delivery, share locker, private locker, fabricate equipment, deliver requested
[00:26:16]
cargo, deliver requested supplies or deliver lost cargo.
[00:26:22]
So yeah, a lot of things share locker is interesting.
[00:26:26]
Again, sort of that multiplayer component.
[00:26:28]
I wonder if you could share supplies.
[00:26:31]
Um, probably also it looks like the currency in the game is called likes.
[00:26:40]
Like thumbs ups, like Facebook likes.
[00:26:44]
Like when you're dropping off the cargo, it says return lost cargo character
[00:26:47]
figurines.
[00:26:48]
So I guess you're dropping off Ludens figurines.
[00:26:52]
Um, and then under units for what you're getting, it says predicted likes 30.
[00:26:58]
Huh.
[00:27:00]
Yeah.
[00:27:00]
And then if you look in the bottom right where there's like currency typically in
[00:27:03]
most games, it just shows a little thumbs up icon and it says like 9,020 or something.
[00:27:10]
Interesting.
[00:27:10]
That's weird.
[00:27:13]
Yeah.
[00:27:13]
That's so weird.
[00:27:14]
There's gotta be some sort of multiplayer component that we're not getting, I think.
[00:27:18]
Yeah.
[00:27:18]
That's, that's, I don't know if I like that.
[00:27:22]
Also, Jeff Keely then phases into existence at about this time.
[00:27:25]
And then we do some weird shit with our dog tags and adding the city to the network,
[00:27:30]
which I'm assuming is like a fast travel or something.
[00:27:33]
Yeah.
[00:27:33]
Like built like connections.
[00:27:35]
Like this whole thing is like doing, making connections and building bridges and links
[00:27:38]
and things like that.
[00:27:39]
And this seems like it's part of it.
[00:27:40]
And then Sam cries while he's floating.
[00:27:43]
He does, which is also very strange.
[00:27:46]
There's a lot of crying in this game.
[00:27:47]
I'm not sure if it's most of it's entirely voluntary.
[00:27:51]
Yeah.
[00:27:51]
And based on what we're seeing here, and I don't believe that this architecture
[00:27:53]
looks fucking anything like where it's claiming.
[00:27:57]
It looks like we're in like West Virginia or something.
[00:27:59]
Cause it pulls up like a US map once you scan and it adds it like a little strand.
[00:28:05]
And you can see what appear to be like four huge stars.
[00:28:08]
It almost looks like you're making a constellation across the United States.
[00:28:12]
And then this little hanger that we have saved to our first game.
[00:28:16]
And then this little hanger that we have saved to our fast travel then turns
[00:28:19]
into like a tiny little star between two of them.
[00:28:23]
So based on my yeah, based on my US geography, just eyeballing this shit,
[00:28:28]
it looks like we're either in West Virginia or I would say Sam, this is interesting.
[00:28:31]
I think we might be like in Ohio.
[00:28:35]
Flip to 414.
[00:28:37]
I think we might be a bit West of Ohio.
[00:28:38]
What's West of Ohio or East of Ohio?
[00:28:41]
Excuse me.
[00:28:42]
East of Ohio is like.
[00:28:44]
Fuck, what is East of Ohio?
[00:28:45]
Yeah, what's what's Southeast of Ohio?
[00:28:47]
I'm just gonna pull up a US map.
[00:28:48]
Southeast is like Kentucky.
[00:28:50]
Well, might be in like Northern Kentucky.
[00:28:52]
Thank I don't know.
[00:28:54]
Anyway, if you flip to four, I have never 414.
[00:28:57]
Let me look at this.
[00:28:59]
Yeah, because I never seen mountains like this.
[00:29:01]
That's what I'm talking about.
[00:29:02]
I mean, granted, it's like fucking post apocalypse, but yeah, which then asks the question.
[00:29:09]
I think all of the United States is in this game.
[00:29:12]
No, God.
[00:29:15]
It shows like a bunch of craters and stuff everywhere, too.
[00:29:18]
Yeah, I guess it just depends on where on the map you're you're sitting.
[00:29:22]
I think it's the tiny.
[00:29:23]
It's the tiny star.
[00:29:25]
The tiny star, like in the at the bottom, like in between the two.
[00:29:30]
Yeah, the two and the three.
[00:29:31]
Horizontal ones.
[00:29:33]
Yeah, because interesting, because yeah, because that top one is like dead center Ohio.
[00:29:39]
Yeah.
[00:29:40]
Yeah, that's weird.
[00:29:42]
One, you see all the big ass circles in the map.
[00:29:44]
I swear to God, those I think those are craters from players dying.
[00:29:49]
Like, you know, when you die, it like blows up the fucking ground.
[00:29:53]
Like they were telling you about how like Sam dying creates a crater.
[00:29:56]
I guarantee you that's what these craters are.
[00:29:58]
It's like players.
[00:29:59]
Well, I guess Kentucky's like like Kentucky's pretty hilly.
[00:30:05]
Yeah, but not like that.
[00:30:06]
Like this looks like some fucking Northern European.
[00:30:10]
Beginning of Prometheus Mountains.
[00:30:15]
I mean, maybe not.
[00:30:18]
I don't know.
[00:30:19]
We'll take a look at it.
[00:30:20]
I do know for a fact that he went to like Greenland and Iceland and stuff to get.
[00:30:25]
Geography for this game.
[00:30:26]
So it's weird that it's taking place in America when like we don't have any
[00:30:29]
proof that Kojima has done like photo sessions across America.
[00:30:34]
Yeah.
[00:30:35]
But anyway, so we drop off this box.
[00:30:37]
It does. I mean, I guess like the Appalachian Mountains are in.
[00:30:40]
That's true. Kentucky.
[00:30:41]
Like parts parts of it are in Kentucky.
[00:30:43]
So that could be the Appalachian Mountains.
[00:30:44]
That's true.
[00:30:45]
Can we talk about this corny bit where Jeff Keely does like a U.C.A. logo?
[00:30:50]
Yeah, like after you deliver the package, he just like his hologram
[00:30:53]
pops up on the outside of the outside of the thing is they're walking away.
[00:31:00]
And.
[00:31:02]
Yeah.
[00:31:03]
And he's just doing this like YMCA looking fucking pose.
[00:31:10]
And then right after that, same what happens because it's real goofy.
[00:31:13]
OK, so.
[00:31:17]
Whoever's playing this game.
[00:31:22]
Like waves it.
[00:31:25]
Luton's fan waves at him and Norma Reyes says is like weird yell.
[00:31:28]
And says, thank you kindly.
[00:31:29]
And as he's walking towards the camera and this motherfucker
[00:31:32]
walks off the edge of the mountain, falls, trips, lands on his stomach
[00:31:37]
and then the baby starts crying.
[00:31:38]
It was the fucking funniest shit.
[00:31:41]
Yeah, and then ever see.
[00:31:43]
And then this begin begins the weird like I'm a city of she story.
[00:31:46]
The weird like Super Mario three.
[00:31:50]
Is the issue story or Super Mario two Super Mario World two.
[00:31:56]
Yoshi's Island.
[00:31:58]
There we go. Jesus Christ.
[00:32:00]
Situation where now I'm getting flashbacks to any time you get hit,
[00:32:04]
just like the.
[00:32:08]
And then yeah, no, there's like a mechanic where you have to like where you pop
[00:32:10]
the baby off of your chest and have to like move the controller to shake
[00:32:14]
like rock the baby.
[00:32:16]
Yeah, yeah, don't shake the baby.
[00:32:18]
Don't shake the baby.
[00:32:19]
I wonder if you can kill your rich baby by shaking it.
[00:32:22]
Oh, God.
[00:32:24]
Or does it throw up in there and then like eat it?
[00:32:28]
I don't like the idea.
[00:32:29]
So I think I've discovered what it is.
[00:32:30]
So last week I had a little bit of a pit in my stomach about how weird
[00:32:35]
this baby thing is.
[00:32:36]
I think I finally realized why I'm freaked out by it.
[00:32:40]
Why was Sam we're given Mountain Dew, do nation gamer fuel, triple XP weekend
[00:32:48]
gamers access to a baby.
[00:32:54]
Just think about that for it.
[00:32:55]
They're going to do fucked up stuff to this baby.
[00:32:58]
Yeah.
[00:32:59]
Like these boys are going to be like shaking babies.
[00:33:01]
They're going to be shooting each other's babies, whatever you can do with
[00:33:04]
each other, they're going to be doing fucked up stuff.
[00:33:05]
And I'm not.
[00:33:06]
I'm not excited for the weird YouTube highlight reels of like weird gruesome
[00:33:11]
baby stuff.
[00:33:15]
Huh.
[00:33:15]
Yeah.
[00:33:16]
Well, yeah, I don't like that.
[00:33:18]
I guess it just depends on how did this get past the ESRB?
[00:33:21]
Like surely you won't be able to hurt these babies.
[00:33:24]
Well, I can't imagine you would.
[00:33:26]
I think the ESRB wouldn't allow that.
[00:33:29]
To go through.
[00:33:30]
Yeah.
[00:33:31]
Somebody also made a comment on here that just blew my fucking mind.
[00:33:33]
Watch oblivion with Tom Cruise.
[00:33:35]
If you want to know what this game is about.
[00:33:36]
Oh my God.
[00:33:38]
Didn't even think about that correlation.
[00:33:40]
This is very oblivion.
[00:33:43]
Huh.
[00:33:44]
Interesting.
[00:33:45]
I guess I.
[00:33:47]
It's definitely like a similar aesthetic.
[00:33:51]
Yeah, I can see that.
[00:33:53]
Oh, but yeah, then seems like feels.
[00:33:56]
Yeah.
[00:33:57]
But yeah, after you soothe the baby, like you have you run down this like slope
[00:34:02]
and you have to like hold L2 and R2 to like grip for balance.
[00:34:08]
And then it kind of just cuts like that's literally just it.
[00:34:12]
Yeah.
[00:34:12]
What do you really replace the kind of gameplay trailer?
[00:34:15]
It's like halfway out the hill.
[00:34:16]
Like with and then we see the God awful box art again, which I fucking cannot
[00:34:20]
stand.
[00:34:21]
So within a play session, Sam.
[00:34:25]
Just and feel free to just kind of free form jazz this.
[00:34:29]
Once you've delivered the stuff you've fallen off the cliff, you're gripping
[00:34:32]
for balance going down the hill.
[00:34:33]
What the fuck do you do?
[00:34:34]
Like what are you doing next?
[00:34:36]
What do you what do you think is you the player?
[00:34:39]
What are you going to be like, oh man, I got to go.
[00:34:42]
Well, I mean, I am based on what just based on what I've seen.
[00:34:46]
And I imagine like you have to go somewhere to pick up another package, right?
[00:34:51]
Yeah, he's yeah, he's just like, well, I'm not sure.
[00:34:54]
Yeah, he's yeah, he does have some other packages.
[00:34:56]
What concerns me?
[00:34:58]
Yeah, he does have some other deliver more packages or go get
[00:35:02]
go somewhere to get more packages.
[00:35:03]
And that's where you get the bulk of the stories when you go to pick up
[00:35:06]
packages or something like that.
[00:35:07]
I don't know.
[00:35:08]
Well, and I think he's trying to connect these cities again.
[00:35:10]
So I think yeah, I think the main goal is just visiting all the cities
[00:35:14]
and then using your dog tags to put them back on the network.
[00:35:18]
Mm hmm.
[00:35:21]
So we're just so we're just mind sweeping across
[00:35:23]
America, which then begs the question, what what do you need the packages for?
[00:35:30]
Well, I guess it's probably like, well, if I'm already going to be walking,
[00:35:33]
I may as well make a may as well make some likes while I'm walking.
[00:35:37]
I guess I don't know.
[00:35:39]
It feels really weird, though.
[00:35:41]
Yeah, geez.
[00:35:42]
If you're listening to this, let us know what you think about any of this
[00:35:45]
at contact at metalgearmondays.com or let us know what you think about us.
[00:35:49]
Because I as I'm listening to this, I'm realizing that like our death stranding
[00:35:53]
coverage is the sound of two men becoming disillusioned with somebody's
[00:35:57]
creative work that they like.
[00:36:02]
Man, I I don't know.
[00:36:04]
I don't know.
[00:36:04]
I've been very wary about death stranding for a while now.
[00:36:10]
I'm just concerned with what it is.
[00:36:11]
Like I still don't know.
[00:36:12]
We still don't know what it is.
[00:36:14]
Like we don't know how much of it's going to be this delivery fucking simulator.
[00:36:18]
We don't know how much of it's going to be this action because they've shown
[00:36:21]
some other gameplay, this shooting and some other parts like fighting and things
[00:36:25]
like hiding or whatever.
[00:36:27]
But how much of the game is that?
[00:36:28]
You know what I mean?
[00:36:30]
Right.
[00:36:31]
I think the disillusionment comes from comes from he's just refusing to show
[00:36:35]
anything like worth a damn.
[00:36:37]
Yeah, it's almost like the opposite of hype.
[00:36:40]
Yeah.
[00:36:41]
And I understand all these people are getting really hyped about it.
[00:36:43]
I think for me, it's like, well, that looks pretty.
[00:36:46]
But then all I keep thinking to myself is like, why didn't you just make an animated
[00:36:48]
movie? Yeah.
[00:36:51]
Like it kind of looks like what you wanted to do.
[00:36:54]
Yeah. It's such a weird thing because like after
[00:36:59]
Konami, like they do that whole that whole split after Hideo and Kojima
[00:37:04]
had their fall after Hideo Kojima fell out.
[00:37:07]
Like the like the thing is he had a clean break.
[00:37:09]
He could have fucking done anything.
[00:37:11]
He could have made a movie.
[00:37:11]
He could have done anything and he decides to make another video game, which OK,
[00:37:16]
fair, it's what you know.
[00:37:18]
But we all know what you want to do.
[00:37:21]
Why don't you just do it?
[00:37:22]
You have an opportunity.
[00:37:24]
Why don't you just do it?
[00:37:25]
He didn't. He decided to make this.
[00:37:27]
He did stay in an interview and I cannot recall exactly where that.
[00:37:31]
For him, open world and his fascination with open world
[00:37:37]
is particularly difficult because of how hard it is to tell a story in an open
[00:37:41]
world format.
[00:37:43]
And in that moment when I heard that, yeah, in that moment,
[00:37:46]
whenever I heard that, I was like, dude, you know what was wrong with Metal Gear
[00:37:49]
Solid 5? Like you just you just said what was wrong with it.
[00:37:54]
Hopefully it's literally this is this is probably bad.
[00:37:57]
Don't do it.
[00:37:58]
You have the insight.
[00:37:59]
Just don't fucking do it.
[00:38:00]
Yeah. In my mind, I'm hoping that him admitting that
[00:38:04]
maybe also means that this won't do that.
[00:38:09]
I don't know.
[00:38:10]
It just like.
[00:38:13]
I am kind of, I guess, I don't know.
[00:38:15]
I feel like my brain is wired differently than other people because I think when
[00:38:19]
when the map comes up and it shows the full United States and it shows how
[00:38:22]
little has been explored, I think there are legitimately people that are just
[00:38:25]
like, holy fuck, this game world is the entire United States.
[00:38:29]
I'm going to walk across all of it.
[00:38:30]
This is going to be amazing. Best open world game ever.
[00:38:32]
Game of the year 2020, blah, blah, blah.
[00:38:34]
For me, I look at that and I'm like, holy fuck, I did not buy this game to have a
[00:38:38]
second job.
[00:38:41]
Yeah. Like I have hobbies.
[00:38:43]
This one game is not like when I also get frustrated with that, like these fucking
[00:38:47]
one game as hobby things, like I don't want to play Death Stranding
[00:38:52]
for five fucking years, dude.
[00:38:55]
Yeah, I just I just I really don't.
[00:38:57]
I want to play Death Stranding.
[00:38:58]
I want to see an awesome story from start to finish.
[00:39:01]
I want to have a good experience and I want to move on to the next thing.
[00:39:04]
I do want to be artistically engaged.
[00:39:06]
I want to be like intellectually challenged.
[00:39:08]
I want to see some crazy shit and I want to see it in a frame where like the
[00:39:13]
interactivity adds layers of depth as opposed to me just like feeling like I'm
[00:39:17]
playing with puppets.
[00:39:19]
But but like I don't need to fucking walk up and down the coasts of the
[00:39:24]
United States.
[00:39:25]
Like what is this?
[00:39:30]
So I don't know.
[00:39:30]
I'm sorry.
[00:39:31]
I feel like we're being extremely negative, but no, no, no, that's fine.
[00:39:34]
I think I think it's it's.
[00:39:37]
Yeah, I think it's I think it's I think it's fair to say I'm not like it's it's
[00:39:44]
it's we're not going to be dishonest.
[00:39:46]
We're not going to be dishonest on the show and we're not going to be like it's
[00:39:48]
a Metal Gear show.
[00:39:49]
We got to suck everybody's dicks that that is really into this.
[00:39:52]
Like we're going to tell you honestly how we feel about this.
[00:39:57]
Yeah, so I don't know.
[00:39:58]
Like, yeah, I definitely see that it's yeah.
[00:40:00]
I guess so and I and I will say I agree with you on that point, but like just
[00:40:05]
just just to play Devils advocate, you're you this is another game that you
[00:40:08]
mentioned where you're talking about game like game game equals hobby as opposed
[00:40:12]
to game equals thing.
[00:40:14]
A game like Animal Crossing, right?
[00:40:16]
Right.
[00:40:16]
What what would you say is different about game as hobby with Animal Crossing
[00:40:22]
that you wouldn't say about Death Stranding?
[00:40:26]
I mean, so one to be fair, like I honestly didn't play a shit ton of Animal Crossing.
[00:40:31]
I played a little bit of it.
[00:40:32]
But I mean, along those same lines, I think Animal Crossing presents as that.
[00:40:39]
Like Animal Crossing on the fucking wrapper is like, you know, what you're
[00:40:43]
getting at?
[00:40:43]
Yeah, this is a sandbox for you to come back, check in on all the on the holidays,
[00:40:49]
trade little goodies with your friends, come back and periodically check on
[00:40:53]
stuff to sell like your turnips to the dude who's coming through town or whatever
[00:40:57]
the fuck.
[00:40:58]
It's you know what you're getting into.
[00:41:01]
And with this, I feel like all the marketing has been like, look at this
[00:41:04]
beautiful film, look at this weird visual language, look at all these themes.
[00:41:13]
But in reality, that's not what we're buying.
[00:41:15]
What we're buying is like a really, really pretty walking simulator with the
[00:41:20]
biggest map ever is what it looks like.
[00:41:25]
When you rock into this game, like we're buying like that we're also trying
[00:41:28]
to buy a story, you know, that's like, that's what I want.
[00:41:32]
Yeah, that's what I want.
[00:41:32]
Yeah, like above all, like even even like whatever was there of fives, like above
[00:41:39]
all, Kojima is a storyteller.
[00:41:40]
He wants to he wants to be a movie, a filmmaker.
[00:41:43]
That's like his whole deal.
[00:41:44]
That's what his deal has been for as long as time immemorial, you know what I
[00:41:48]
mean?
[00:41:49]
So, so I'm going into this game and I want to buy a story, which I think is
[00:41:56]
also what sets apart a game like this versus a game like Animal Crossing, where
[00:42:01]
you know, you know what you're getting into.
[00:42:04]
We should know what we're getting into with Kojima.
[00:42:06]
And the problem, the problem that I'm having is that like, I don't like, I
[00:42:10]
have no idea like if the story is going to be as engaging as some of these
[00:42:13]
trailers have presented, or if like we've seen all the most engaging stuff and
[00:42:17]
it's just going to keep declining as you play or buy it or whatever.
[00:42:21]
And it's just, yeah, it's just all it's all very concerning.
[00:42:25]
And I think it's fair to be concerned about it.
[00:42:27]
Yeah.
[00:42:27]
If it was a Metal Gear Solid 5 situation where it's like we get into it and
[00:42:30]
like we've seen all the cut scenes already in the trailers, I would be
[00:42:34]
livid.
[00:42:35]
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
[00:42:37]
It just, it, yeah, it just feels, I don't know, it feels, we're standing on a
[00:42:43]
precipice, you know what I mean?
[00:42:44]
And we're going to fall one way or the other and it's not going to be pretty
[00:42:50]
if it's a very specific way.
[00:42:51]
So it's just kind of like this whole thing.
[00:42:53]
I just think, I think the big problem is, and I think, I think it's actually
[00:42:56]
safer to carry this attitude about it, because I think what's going to happen
[00:42:59]
is they're going to be people who are just like, no, man, you got it.
[00:43:03]
Like, this is going to be awesome.
[00:43:04]
It's going to be the best.
[00:43:04]
Like it's going to be super rad, blah, blah, blah.
[00:43:07]
And then they're going to play it and it's going to be not up to their
[00:43:10]
expectation and then it's going to ruin, you know, other people's opinions about
[00:43:14]
it.
[00:43:14]
And I think, I think it's always safer to have a more cautious kind of like guarded
[00:43:19]
opinion about something ahead of time than it is to just be super hype
[00:43:23]
entirely and completely.
[00:43:26]
Yeah, I think I'm going to do something differently with this game than I've
[00:43:29]
ever done it at any point since I was like nine years old.
[00:43:34]
I'm not going to read a single review until I finish the game.
[00:43:38]
Oh, same.
[00:43:39]
Yeah, I'm not touching that shit.
[00:43:41]
I did the same thing with like, I did the same thing with you like Kingdom Hearts
[00:43:43]
three, like I didn't touch a review until after I beat it.
[00:43:47]
And I find that like, I know that's, that's the other thing is that I find
[00:43:50]
that like, because the thing of it is like, we're going to get it anyway,
[00:43:53]
because we're doing it for the show.
[00:43:56]
And even if we didn't have this show, we probably get it anyway, because we
[00:43:59]
are Metal Gear fans, we're Kojima fans, so we probably just get it anyway.
[00:44:02]
So reading our view isn't going to do shit for shit, you know, so just so it
[00:44:07]
makes sense to be able to buy this.
[00:44:09]
It's the same thing like Kingdom Hearts three, the way that I explained
[00:44:11]
Kingdom Hearts three was that like Kingdom Hearts is one of my favorite
[00:44:13]
game series as well.
[00:44:15]
It's up there.
[00:44:15]
And the way that I explained it was just like that game, it could be like a
[00:44:19]
two out of 10 and I would still buy it out of obligation, you know what I mean?
[00:44:22]
Right.
[00:44:23]
So I think for me, all that really would do.
[00:44:26]
Yeah, if the review was like six out of 10 and then I played it like the whole
[00:44:30]
fucking time, I'd be like, all right, I'm waiting to get punched in the stomach.
[00:44:33]
When's it going to happen for the entire game?
[00:44:35]
You know?
[00:44:36]
So instead of bracing yourself, you're just like, yeah.
[00:44:40]
So you just go into it and it's just like you're not waiting for anything.
[00:44:43]
You're just kind of experiencing it.
[00:44:44]
And then if you get blindsided, you get blindsided, but, you know,
[00:44:47]
that's a smart thing to take.
[00:44:48]
If you know, like, if you're listening to this podcast, there's a really solid
[00:44:52]
chance that you're just going to get Death Stranding.
[00:44:55]
Do yourself a favor and don't read reviews about it until you've gotten it
[00:44:59]
and beaten it because it's not going to help you in any way.
[00:45:01]
It's going to set an expectation and it's going to set a bar that may either
[00:45:05]
make clear or may not even even get below.
[00:45:09]
So just do yourself a favor.
[00:45:12]
Yeah.
[00:45:12]
When I do want to make mention, because like if the next few episodes of this
[00:45:16]
show are going to be us kind of looking at trailers and marketing materials,
[00:45:20]
I do understand that there's a sub-sect of people who don't even want to
[00:45:22]
fucking look at that.
[00:45:23]
They just want to go in totally blind.
[00:45:26]
I personally feel like marketing materials are completely fair game.
[00:45:30]
Like I view it as this is the YouTube equivalent of I went
[00:45:35]
to go see another movie and a trailer for this movie came on.
[00:45:40]
And like to me, it's like, yeah, I mean, everybody's allowed to do whatever they
[00:45:44]
want. So if you're on a total media blackout for Death Stranding, I get it.
[00:45:48]
I'm sorry.
[00:45:49]
You're probably not listening to this.
[00:45:50]
You're probably not going to listen to this show for a while.
[00:45:52]
I apologize that like the next two months are just going to be off limits to you
[00:45:56]
unless it's like an interview episode or something.
[00:45:59]
But I personally feel like we're not spoiling anything by reviewing
[00:46:06]
trailers that the company is putting out officially, publicly.
[00:46:11]
You know what I mean?
[00:46:12]
Yeah.
[00:46:13]
Plus, like other than some fucking complete off the wall like speculation,
[00:46:19]
I don't even think any of us know what the fuck's going on anyway.
[00:46:22]
No, I don't think anybody is like anywhere close to 100 percent right about any of it.
[00:46:25]
Like it's just so it's like it's just I'll bring up the David Jaffe thing again.
[00:46:30]
This week, it's just so esoteric and weird and Kojima that it's just hard to
[00:46:35]
start to pin down.
[00:46:37]
It's weird because when it's somebody like David Lynch or even like Ari Aster
[00:46:41]
with me having gone to midsomer relatively recently or fucking, I don't know,
[00:46:47]
like other movies that I recently have seen.
[00:46:52]
It's weird because I feel like I give these filmmakers sort of like a carte
[00:46:54]
blanche where it's like I go in and if like if I leave and I have no questions
[00:46:58]
answered, I'm just like, man, I was a fucking trip.
[00:47:00]
I know some art.
[00:47:01]
Like I feel like I just kind of observed a thing, got hit with it.
[00:47:05]
Now I got to sit with it and kind of mull it over my head.
[00:47:09]
I think with this, though,
[00:47:14]
I have never been more afraid of not having a single fucking question
[00:47:18]
answered in my entire life than this game.
[00:47:20]
Yeah, that's the that's the big problem.
[00:47:23]
And normally I don't care.
[00:47:24]
Like normally I'm like, cool, I get what I get.
[00:47:26]
That's what the creator wanted.
[00:47:28]
With this, I'm nervous that we're going to be just as in the dark
[00:47:31]
when the game's over as we are right now.
[00:47:35]
Yeah, I can see that.
[00:47:36]
I can agree with that, too.
[00:47:37]
And it's it's yeah, it's it's it's scary.
[00:47:40]
It's just like I've like I've never had so many question marks going into a game
[00:47:44]
before, like I think ever.
[00:47:47]
And yeah, I'm afraid that we're just going to have those coming out of it, too,
[00:47:50]
which is like it's unsatisfying.
[00:47:52]
I like that's been that's been my my.
[00:47:58]
My whole log line is I'm scared that I'm going to be disappointed.
[00:48:02]
And yeah, I don't know.
[00:48:06]
I mean, if we are, we are, I think, I guess.
[00:48:10]
Yeah, yeah.
[00:48:11]
If anything, I apologize.
[00:48:12]
Yeah, I apologize to everybody.
[00:48:14]
We'll try and stay.
[00:48:16]
Healthy and positive to the extent that we can.
[00:48:21]
Yeah, I think it's important to to to discuss this stuff, though,
[00:48:24]
because these are illegitimate concerns.
[00:48:26]
And I doubt I doubt that we're the only people who feel this way,
[00:48:29]
even among our listener base, you know what I mean?
[00:48:31]
Like, I think it's I think it's it's fair and fair and good to have this
[00:48:36]
conversation, you know what I mean?
[00:48:38]
Oh, for sure.
[00:48:39]
I just know that, like, once the game comes out, I don't want there to be like
[00:48:41]
eight weeks of your Mondays dunking on death.
[00:48:45]
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:48:47]
I mean, we did have we did have four weeks of MGM dunking on Middle Gear Solid
[00:48:51]
Five, so it wouldn't be true.
[00:48:53]
We called we called out good things when it happened.
[00:48:56]
We did. We did.
[00:48:58]
But I don't know. I'm I'm concerned.
[00:49:00]
I'm I'm concerned, but I am also coming from a place of acceptance.
[00:49:06]
So I'm ready to receive the gift that Kojima has prepared for us,
[00:49:11]
whether or not I get to see Norman Reedus's turgid penis.
[00:49:15]
Yeah. So even if I didn't get a single question answered,
[00:49:17]
if the final cut scene was just we saw Norman Reedus's dick, I'd probably be like,
[00:49:22]
OK, that's fine. I was worried.
[00:49:23]
Turgid penis, please, please.
[00:49:25]
Please. Yes. You could use the nomenclature.
[00:49:29]
OK, I need you to say it, Alessio.
[00:49:31]
Turgid penis.
[00:49:38]
I feel like that needs to be the sign off.
[00:49:42]
Oh, it's just a turgid penis.
[00:49:44]
That's no, it's not even it's just it's just one of us awkwardly saying turgid penis.
[00:49:51]
Turgid penis.
[00:49:53]
It sounds like the fucking Plinkett reviews.
[00:49:55]
Oh, he's got a turgid penis.
[00:49:58]
Jesus Christ.
[00:50:00]
Norman Reedus and his turgid penis.
[00:50:05]
I'm sorry, Norman Reedus.
[00:50:07]
Do you think we'll get back to Norman?
[00:50:10]
Maybe I may not know me now, no.
[00:50:13]
But in the past before this, maybe.
[00:50:17]
Oh, gross.
[00:50:18]
I don't think I really knew what turgid meant, but I just looked it up.
[00:50:24]
You want to know what turgid means?
[00:50:26]
Because you've heard the word turgid to describe a penis before.
[00:50:29]
Right, right. Of course.
[00:50:30]
So turgid is an adjective to mean swollen and distended or congested.
[00:50:39]
Somebody helped Norman Reedus sneeze that penis.
[00:50:42]
Yeah, kind of got to kind of prepare and let loose.
[00:50:45]
Sneeze that dick.
[00:50:47]
Yes, I swole in a distend, distended.
[00:50:51]
What's that? What's that she congested with?
[00:50:54]
Shoot those ropes, bro. Oh, no.
[00:50:56]
Get those ropes out of there.
[00:51:00]
Oh, no. You know what I want and what I'm looking forward to more
[00:51:03]
than anything actually revolving around this game.
[00:51:06]
I need a Conan O'Brien Clueless Gamer on this ASAP.
[00:51:09]
Oh, yeah.
[00:51:11]
Well, the problem, the problem with this running is that like every
[00:51:14]
everyone is everybody is a Clueless Gamer on this one.
[00:51:17]
Oh, yeah, that's true.
[00:51:19]
We all play this Clueless Cranium.
[00:51:21]
Well, God.
[00:51:24]
But yeah, all right, you guys, well, that was this week's episode.
[00:51:26]
Tune in next week for
[00:51:28]
Alysian Sam's Descent into Death Stranding.
[00:51:33]
Madness.
[00:51:33]
We're at a fever pitch here at Metal Gear Mondays.
[00:51:36]
I don't know if you can hear the excitement in our voices.
[00:51:39]
Can you hear the people sing
[00:51:42]
singing the songs of angry men?
[00:51:44]
It's the music of the people who will not be slaves again.
[00:51:49]
When the beating of the drums matches the beating of your heart,
[00:51:54]
there's a life about to start when tomorrow comes.
[00:51:59]
Yeah, I'll get with that.
[00:52:01]
Basically, basically, yeah.
[00:52:03]
Yeah, I'm shaking with excitement for Death Stranding.
[00:52:08]
I am turgid with excitement.
[00:52:09]
Yeah, I don't know if you guys can hear this, but my voice is trembling with excitement.
[00:52:13]
Trembling.
[00:52:14]
Yeah, no.
[00:52:15]
I think turgid would work for excitement.
[00:52:18]
I am turgid with excitement.
[00:52:20]
I am swollen and distended or congested with excitement.
[00:52:23]
I wish that we could go find like just an on the street
[00:52:27]
massive Death Stranding hater and just get them on this podcast
[00:52:31]
to like listen to what they have to say.
[00:52:33]
I would love that because I definitely feel like I've seen online.
[00:52:37]
Plenty of people think that all this shit's overrated.
[00:52:41]
So I just want to hear.
[00:52:42]
Yeah, I just want to hear.
[00:52:44]
I just want to open the floodgates.
[00:52:47]
Let's go and get it out there.
[00:52:48]
Fast forward to Sam and Alessio eight weeks from now.
[00:52:50]
We're both just like, it's the greatest fucking thing we've ever played.
[00:52:54]
Potentially, I'm not putting that into the universe
[00:52:57]
because I don't know if it's true and I don't want to be that guy.
[00:53:01]
I don't want to set an expectation for myself that I possibly can't meet.
[00:53:06]
You can't possibly meet.
[00:53:07]
So that being said,
[00:53:10]
fuck it, it's going to suck.
[00:53:18]
It's not. It'll be fine.
[00:53:19]
It'll be it'll be at least serviceable.
[00:53:21]
And yeah, it's just a baby.
[00:53:26]
Well, we can't do it.
[00:53:27]
Yeah, we have to do the things.
[00:53:32]
Alessio to promote the stuff.
[00:53:35]
Hey, everybody, if you like listening to us whiny boys,
[00:53:39]
you should go to metalgearmondays.com for all of your needs.
[00:53:45]
By the time you listen to this,
[00:53:46]
we'll probably have our Renton City Retro full video.
[00:53:48]
But if it's not available, there's definitely a trailer and it's very funny.
[00:53:52]
And it's very funny. I love that.
[00:53:54]
I've watched that trailer many times.
[00:53:57]
It's so funny.
[00:53:58]
The cuts are elicited.
[00:53:59]
A wonderful job making that is the cuts are great.
[00:54:02]
There's like so much.
[00:54:03]
There's just so much to love about it.
[00:54:05]
And I notice something different each time.
[00:54:07]
Oh, it's very good.
[00:54:09]
But yeah, youtube.com slash metalgearmondays.
[00:54:11]
We'll get you that.
[00:54:12]
I'm also probably going to write a post at some point soon to put it on the website.
[00:54:17]
But yeah, you can also check us out Twitter at metalgearmonday.
[00:54:20]
Please like us.
[00:54:22]
I was going to say follow us. Please like.
[00:54:24]
No, follow us. Yeah, that's right. Sorry.
[00:54:26]
Please follow us on Twitter.
[00:54:28]
We are going through some weird Twitter scuffle per last week.
[00:54:32]
So hopefully we can by the time you hear this hopeful hopefully by the time you hear this is fucking two weeks later.
[00:54:37]
By the time you hear this, I'm hoping that our shit's taken care of.
[00:54:40]
But who knows if it's not, I'm going to need you to flip a car in the street.
[00:54:44]
Any street pick a street.
[00:54:46]
Can you hear the people?
[00:54:50]
Yeah, dude.
[00:54:53]
I just thought about this.
[00:54:56]
Death Stranding, I feel like would be immensely better.
[00:54:59]
Keanu Reeves would have been Norman Reedus's character.
[00:55:04]
Well, anything would be better if Keanu Reeves is anybody's character.
[00:55:06]
So that's true.
[00:55:09]
But yeah, you can find me personally on Twitter at AC Summerfield.
[00:55:13]
And I can respond to you, regardless of how many weeks it's been.
[00:55:18]
Yes, man.
[00:55:25]
I hope so. I hope so.
[00:55:26]
Many understood what that was.
[00:55:27]
You can find me on Twitter at Sanjol.
[00:55:29]
That's S-A-N-J-U-U-L.
[00:55:31]
You can also find me on my burgeoning YouTube channel.
[00:55:37]
You can find that at bit.ly for it.
[00:55:39]
Sam does a thing until I get enough subscribers to do a custom URL.
[00:55:44]
So check that out.
[00:55:46]
Subscribe and watch however many videos I have up.
[00:55:50]
I don't know how many I have right now.
[00:55:51]
It's it's been it's a weird future where Sam actually has like a million subscribers
[00:55:56]
and is putting out like a video a day.
[00:55:59]
Yeah, what do you think?
[00:56:00]
Y'all tell me what you want me to do on my YouTube channel.
[00:56:03]
Honestly, I'm open to suggestions.
[00:56:06]
I've got a series that I started just on a whim called called Snack in the Box
[00:56:11]
because I tried all the Japanese snacks that Alice Chang sent me from Japan
[00:56:16]
when she visited and that's a series.
[00:56:18]
So I'll eat stuff, I'll eat weird stuff.
[00:56:20]
But like, what other things?
[00:56:21]
Talk to me, tell me, tweet at me at Sanjol and subscribe to my channel.
[00:56:25]
And I'll do stuff on my channel.
[00:56:28]
I'm I'm about the people.
[00:56:29]
I'm for the children like Wu Tang and I'm about the people.
[00:56:34]
So check check that out.
[00:56:37]
Let me know. Let me know.
[00:56:38]
Get at me. Perf.
[00:56:46]
I am going to fall down a rabbit hole.
[00:56:48]
I just randomly for the for the for the shits and gigs.
[00:56:51]
Just Google searched death stranding leaks.
[00:56:54]
Do you say shits and gigs?
[00:56:56]
Yes. OK.
[00:56:58]
I stepped in death stranding leaks and found like a screenshot of a very long
[00:57:03]
4chan thread that claims that it's filled with leaks.
[00:57:07]
So what's up?
[00:57:08]
Well, you should you should be careful about that because it might be
[00:57:11]
noriuses leak all 200 some on milliliters of it.
[00:57:15]
Oh, no.
[00:57:17]
Do you think that's actual piss or do you think it's like fluid from the from the baby?
[00:57:22]
Hmm.
[00:57:24]
Hmm.
[00:57:26]
Hmm.
[00:57:28]
Both.
[00:57:30]
I think it's just a baby.
