Tokunbo 'Toks' Ifaturoti Episode 40

Hello Sustainable Friends!

Welcome to another episode of our Podcast titled, "Let's Act: Sustainably Developing Africa and Beyond."

Our guest is Lisa Talia Moretti and our topic is, "Technology Ethics: How Can We Shape Artificial Intelligence?"

Lisa Talia Moretti is a Digital Sociologist based in the UK. She holds an MSc in Digital Sociology with 17 years of experience working at the intersection of design research, social theory, and technology.

Lisa is the Chair of the AI Council at the British Interactive Media Association -BIMA and a Conversation Design Institute Foundation board member.

Our conversation was informative and insightful from start to finish!

Some key highlights from our discussion:

  • We must be problem-centric to find the right solutions for stakeholders and our data still needs to be protected
  • Consider if we have any problems at work that would benefit from AI tech
  • Minimize environmental impact globally as a lot of energy and fossil fuel is used to power data centres
  • The impact of technology shouldn't be detrimental to human life and nature
  • Humans still have a huge role to play as evidence indicates various AI tools can generate misinformation
  • There is a scale use of robotics in factories and warehouses to maximize efficiency, production, and economies of scale but fresh AI or knowledge-generating threats are evident in the creative industries
  • Job losses are evident in the creative spaces, especially for small 'gigs'
  • Lisa is originally from South Africa and finds to relax and immerse herself in creative writing, exercising, and much more. I also mentioned the places I have visited in SA - great memories for both of us!

Enjoy!!!
