Yuri (00:01):
Hey, have you guys noticed Hiroto lately? He's been different.
Noriko (00:04):
Different? What do you mean?
Yuri (00:06):
So, a few days ago, Hanaya and I were going over some notes at our desk. Hiroto walks in holding this little paper bag. Hanaya didn't even notice him at first. She was so deep into her book. But I saw him. His eyes kind of scanned the room for a second. He took this deep breath, like he was hyping himself up or something. And then he just walks right over to her desk. He comes up from behind her and leans down like super close.
Noriko (00:31):
Wait, really?
Yuri (00:32):
Yeah, I swear. His face was just inches away from hers. He sets the paper bag down gently on her desk like it was some kind of precious cargo. His expression, totally calm and focused. He didn't look rushed or anything, like he had been planning it or something.
Noriko (00:48):
No way! Are you serious? How did Hanaya react?
Yuri (00:51):
Her eyes went wide and she flinched a bit. She was clearly caught off guard. Her fingers froze over her notebook. And when she slowly turned her head, their eyes met. Just for a split second. She shot upright so fast. Her cheeks went pink. And she glanced to the right, like she didn't know what to do. I swear it was like something straight out of a K-drama.
Noriko (01:12):
Wow! It really is. And then?
Yuri (01:14):
He leaned in right next to her ear and said,
Hiroto (01:16):
You came in early today. You didn't have breakfast, right? I thought you might be hungry. It's your favorite.
Hanaya (01:22):
Oh, th-thank you. But you didn't have to.
Hiroto (01:25):
I wanted to. I remember you liked this one.
Akio (01:27):
Wow! That's definitely not normal. But like smooth as heck.
Noriko (01:31):
I bet her heart did like three back flips.
Akio (01:33):
Wait, wait. So what was in the bag?
Yuri (01:35):
A pastry. Her favorite kind. But how did he even know? Anyway, but the way he said it, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. I think my heart did a little flip just watching it all play out. Hanaya just sat there staring at the bag like it might explode. It was kind of adorable, honestly.
Noriko (01:53):
Ooh, I think someone's catching feelings.
Yuri (01:55):
Not just catching them. He's practically announcing it at this point.
Akio (02:00):
Yeah, he's definitely getting bolder these days. Last week after basketball practice, we were just about to head home when it started pouring like crazy. At the entrance, we saw Hanaya standing there staring out at the pouring rain. He approaches her calmly and says,
Hiroto (02:15):
Looks like someone forgot their umbrella.
Hanaya (02:17):
Oh, I didn't. Yuri forgot hers. So I lent her mine. She had to leave early today. I thought the rain would stop by the time I finished my duties. But now it just won't quit.
Hiroto (02:27):
Yeah. The forecast says it's gonna be like this for a while.
Hanaya (02:30):
I guess I will just have to wait it out a bit longer.
Hiroto (02:33):
Or you could just share with me. I'm heading that way anyway.
Hanaya (02:36):
Uh, it's okay. I..I don't wanna bother you. I can just wait.
Hiroto (02:40):
It's not a bother. Come on. It's getting late. It'll rain all evening. You know, I kind of like the rain, especially when I get to share it.
Noriko (02:47):
Wow! Somebody stop this guy! So did she go?
Akio (02:50):
She hesitated a bit, fiddled nervously with the strap of her bag. But when Hiroto stepped out into the rain, not even flinching, and held the umbrella out to her, she took a step forward. It wasn't even dramatic, just natural, like it was supposed to happen. I swear they totally forgot I was even there. I just watched them for a while. There was no way I was going to miss this <laugh>. They walked side by side under that tiny umbrella. Their shoulders almost touching. Hiroto kept tilting it more towards her, making sure she wasn't getting wet. The rain was coming down hard, but their footsteps were totally in sync. Under that small space with the rain all around them, I don't know, it was kind of nice. The kind of nice that makes you think of slow songs and city lights.
Yuri (03:33):
That is like total K-drama vibes right there.
Noriko (03:36):
I bet her heart was pounding louder than the rain.
Akio (03:38):
I bet his was too.
Yuri (03:39):
Come on guys, spill it all out. What else did you see?
Noriko (03:42):
Well, yesterday after the running drills, Hanaya and I were totally wiped out. She was catching her breath, hands on her knees when Hiroto walks up out of nowhere with a cold bottle of water. He cracks it open and hands it to her before she can even ask. Hanaya just blinks, staring at the bottle, then at him, like she couldn't believe it. He says,
Hiroto (04:03):
You look like you could use this.
Hanaya (04:04):
Wait, you brought this for me?
Hiroto (04:06):
Yeah. I saw you running earlier. Figured you would be thirsty.
Hanaya (04:09):
Oh, thank you. You didn't have to do that.
Hiroto (04:11):
I know, but I wanted to.
Hanaya (04:12):
But how did you even know I would be here?
Hiroto (04:15):
I always know where to find you.
Yuri (04:16):
Wow Hiroto! He's really paying attention to her, isn't he? I wonder just how much longer Hanaya can keep pretending her heart isn't doing back flips every time he does stuff like this.
Noriko (04:27):
Yeah, right. I swear her heart did a full-on cartwheel when he said that. She nearly choked on her next sip of water. Hiroto just laughed and said,
Hiroto (04:34):
Hey, slow down. Don't drink too fast. You're gonna pass out or something.
Noriko (04:38):
I just thought he was being playful. But now I'm just saying if this was a K-drama, that's the part where the main character realizes she's been blind this whole time.
Yuri (04:47):
He's not even hiding it anymore. I'm loving this. What else he's gonna do?
Hiroto (04:53):
Hanaya, you don't look so well. Are you okay?
Hanaya (04:55):
Uh, I'm fine. Just a little headache. I'm planning to head home soon.
Hiroto (04:59):
A little headache? Your face is pale and you look like you're about to collapse. There's no way I'm letting you go home alone like this. l will take you.
Hanaya (05:07):
I'm okay. Really.I can manage. My home is very near. Yuri can help me.
Hiroto (05:13):
Yuri has already left. Come on. Hand me your bag. I'm not letting you walk alone. I'm already here. Let me help.
Hanaya (05:17):
Wait, wait. You don't have to. I can carry it.
Hiroto (05:20):
Not a chance. You're barely standing. Let's get you home.
Hanaya's mom (05:26):
Well, hello! Uh, you must be...
Hiroto (05:30):
Uh, hello, Mrs. Oki. I'm Hiroto, Hanaya's classmate. She wasn't feeling well, so I wanted to make sure she got back safely.
Hanaya's mom (05:36):
Oh my! That's very thoughtful of you. Thank you so much for bringing her home. Won't you come inside?
Hiroto (05:42):
I would love to, but I should get going. My parents are expecting me. And here, some medicine I picked up on the way.
Hanaya (05:48):
Uh, he just stopped in front of the pharmacy out of nowhere. I told him not to, but he wouldn't listen.
Hanaya's mom (05:54):
That's so sweet of you. How much did it cost? Let me give you back the money.
Hiroto (05:59):
No, really. It's fine. Please don't worry about it. Hanaya, make sure you take the medicine and get some rest, okay? I'll see you later. Take care. Bye-bye.
Hanaya (06:05):
Thank you, Hiroto. Bye-bye.
Hanaya's mom (06:08):
He's quite the gentleman, isn't he? So thoughtful too. Not many would go out of their way like that.
Hanaya (06:13):
Yeah, he is. But he didn't have to. I told him I was fine.
Hanaya's mom (06:18):
Sometimes it's not about whether you say you're fine. It's about someone caring enough to notice that you're not. Come on, let's get you settled. Let's take these medicines, okay? And you can sleep early today,
Yuri (06:31):
Guys, I'm telling you, today is the day. He hasn't seen Hanaya for like three whole days. Something's definitely gonna happen.
Akio (06:38):
Alright, so when's the big moment?
Yuri (06:40):
Right about now. Watch. Here he comes.
Noriko (06:43):
His eyes are scanning the room. And his eyes just locked onto her. She's brushing her hair back behind her ear as she looks out the window. Guys, see his eyes light up! He's heading straight for her. Guys, it's happening!
Hiroto (06:55):
Hey, good morning. I missed you.
Hanaya (06:57):
Hey, good morning.
Hiroto (06:59):
You look really pretty today, Hanaya.
Hanaya (07:01):
W-What?
Hiroto (07:02):
I said you look really pretty today. I mean, you always do. But today, there's just, something different.
Hanaya (07:08):
Uh, th-thank you. I didn't expect that.
Hiroto (07:11):
I just thought you should know. Some days you just shine a little brighter. Should I say it more often? Because you do, you look pretty every day, you know.
Hanaya (07:22):
Uh, th- thank you, but you don't have to say that.
Hiroto (07:25):
But I want to.
Yuri (07:26):
Did you hear that? He just, he just said it like it was nothing.
Akio (07:30):
No hesitation at all! This guy's a pro! I'm taking notes. This is a masterclass!
Noriko (07:35):
Look at her! She's totally losing it. She's avoiding his eyes, gripping her notebook like it's her last lifeline. And that blush, oh my gosh! I can't, I literally can't handle this. If this isn't a live-action K-drama, I swear she's about to float away.
