Start here to understand how to listen to future episodes, and for a brief introduction of your host, Io Bones.
Hello everyone, welcome to season one of doings. This is not an ordinary podcast, in fact it might not properly be a podcast at all. Instead of giving you stories or information to mull over, what I offer here are sets of instructions to follow in real time. They will guide you into explorations of yourself and the world around you, and hopefully encourage you to experience it all in a slightly new way. These are things to do, not listen to, which is why I've called it doings.
Each episode will begin with a short explanation of where you need to be or what you need to have to do each doing. If you don't have access to those things, you can either wait until you do, or listen to the episode and adapt it to your situation. Some of the doings might make you feel a little strange or self conscious if someone is watching you, so, if other people are around, I recommend asking for some privacy or, better yet, doing them together. You can either use a speaker, or press play together on your headphones so that you're roughly in sync.
Now a disclaimer. I hope this goes without saying, but just because someone on the radio tells you to do something doesn't mean you should or that you have to. If you don't want to do something, don't. I'll never know. These episodes are for you to enjoy in whatever way feels right to you.
And lastly, before we jump in, here's a little bit about me, your host, Io Bones. By trade, I'm a somatic psychotherapist, which means I help people introspect on their life with the understanding that our bodily experience is an integral part of everything that we do. I've done a lot of other things too, including working at an inquiry based science museum, studying a wide range of dance and movement practices, including contact improvisation, and learning how to integrate mindfulness and nature into my therapy work.. All of this experience will inevitably inform this podcast, but expect it to diverge from any particular agenda. Think of it less as meditation or education, and more as art. The only goal here is to have an experience that gets you feeling, thinking, or perceiving in an interesting way.
And with that, I proudly present, doings, the podcast. I hope you enjoy.
