Welcome to Season 3, in which I'll be travelling around Europe to interview a variety of guests in person throughout 2023!
Stefan is an orthopaedic surgeon by trade with an extensive background in clinical research. He is a past president of the Osteoarthritis Research Society International. In 2017 he received the OARSI Lifetime Achievement Award for exceptional contributions to the advancement of knowledge in the field of osteoarthritis.
Over the past 10+ years, Stefan has been part of the KANON group, led by Stephanie Filbay from Melbourne, which has produced some amazing research on the potential for non-operative management of ACL injuries. Their most recent paper highlighted the potential of the ACL to heal in roughly 1/3 of individuals, which is what we discussed in this chat!
We talk about the clinical implications of the research, what it means for surgeons, physios and GP's, if follow up scans are necessary and much more.
This episode was recorded live in Stefan's house in Lund, Sweden. He was so generous with his time and even showed me and my partner, Maddy, around the small town afterwards, and took us for lunch!
