Speaker 1:

The weekend's here. It's time to unwind. Grab your snacks, leave the week behind. Blockbusters classics, they're all on the way. Let's kick it off with Cinema Saturdays.

Speaker 2:

Hello everyone and welcome to another Cinema Saturday episode of the Couch Critic. I'm your host, nathan, and on today's episode I'm talking about another screen unseen film. Screen unseen is a great thing that AMC Theaters does, where they don't tell you what the movie is. You buy the ticket, you don't know what it's going to be, you watch all the trailers before the film and then they show you a random movie. I've talked about this before. I can't praise it enough. I think it is a great concept. It has introduced me to movies that I never thought I would watch, but I end up thoroughly enjoying. And today's episode is another one that I just did not expect to watch and was very impressed with it.

Speaker 2:

The movie is Last Breath, but before I can talk about my likes and dislikes, I have to go over the synopsis. Last Breath is a true story that follows seasoned deep sea divers as they battle the raging elements to rescue their crewmate trapped hundreds of feet below the ocean's surface. One word to describe this movie is wow the fact that this is based on a true story. If you've listened to the show before, you know that I'm a sucker for a true story, and this is a unbelievable true story. I don't know how much I can talk about this movie without spoiling it, and I don't want to spoil this movie. That's how good this movie was, I think it's. It's not going to do well in the box office, unfortunately, because I think it's surrounded by a lot of other well-known franchises and other movies that are probably gonna bring this movie down a little bit, which is unfortunate Because the performances in this movie were fantastic. Is this something that hasn't been seen before? No, I don't think the premise is anything new, but again, I don't care. New, but again I don't care. I think true stories about things that happen in this movie need to be told, especially when a movie like this, if done a certain way, could come off as a faith-based film. That's all I'm going to say, because, again, I do not want to say really anything about this movie, except that it's a really, really good film that I think needs to be seen. I do believe it needs to be seen in theaters.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to use the word immerses you in what is going on in this movie. It's such an intense film. It's very subtle, it's not very loud, it's not crazy action packed, and that is okay. I think when it gets silent is when it's the most intense. It's just, it's like an edge of your seat kind of movie. It keeps you guessing it, it makes you hope it. It's just such a great film and the only thing that makes it not a faith-based film is the fact that there is foul language in it.

Speaker 2:

It didn't bother me, because the story is just so compelling it. You, you instantly care about the characters, and that's very rare in a movie. Usually you have to take your time with characters, spend some time with them, but just because the performances are just so well done, you instantly care about these characters from the very beginning of this movie. And it makes me want to go and search out the documentary that this movie is based off of. It's based off a true story that was made into a documentary and then they took the documentary and made into a feature length film.

Speaker 2:

Um, I really can't say anything else. This is probably going to be a really short Cinema Saturday episode, and that's okay, because this movie is very fun, very intense, and it leaves you with just a sense of hope and God's goodness I'm just going to say it it really does leave you with a sense of that. God is still in the miracle business, and it's just such a good film I couldn't recommend it anymore. So I'm just going to leave it at that. I'm going to give last breath a five out of five stars. I thought it was just very well done, very well acted, very well shot. Just the camera angles, the choice in camera usage, is just really really good. It's just a really good film.

Speaker 2:

So that is my review of my screen unseen viewing of Last breath, and next week I'm going to be doing a double feature episode. Originally, one of these movies was supposed to come out, like I think, in may at least that's what it showed on the list of movies I'm going to be watching but it actually came out sooner than I thought. So I'm going to be letting you listen to two clips. I'm just going to end the episode. So thank you for listening to the couch critic. The support has been great. Share the show with your friends and now take a listen to two clips from the double feature episode I'm going to be doing next Cinema Saturday.

Speaker 1:

Hi Mickey, how you doing? Are you experiencing any vertigo, nausea or dizziness?

Speaker 3:

I guess I am feeling a little dizzy. It's only going to get worse from here. Mickey, with a nice fever too. Truth is, you're exposed to unthinkable levels of radiation right now, which is why we sent you out in the first place. Okay, if you could give us a full description of your symptoms. So a couple things I want to go through on our cosmic radiation checklist. First, how long until your skin starts to burn, then how long until you go blind, and, of course, how long until your skin starts to burn, then how long until you go blind and, of course, how long until you die. That's the real nut we're after. Oh wow, did you see that?

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the first Roblox worldwide competition, afghanistan. The computers come today for the boys, girls outside.

Speaker 3:

The first time I touched a computer, it was like a light in the darkness and my tiny world got bigger and bigger. We have no computer classes. I'll learn how to use these and then I'll teach girls. In Afghanistan, ten classrooms are a drop in the ocean. It's not changing anything. We are looking for four girls who would like to learn about robotics and compete with teams from other countries. It'll show Afghan girls in a new light. Are you interested in joining our team? You're the robot lady. How fast do these robots go? You get to drive them in America.

Speaker 2:

It's dangerous to talk about girls doing this.

Speaker 1:

It's dangerous not to my answer today and tomorrow will always be no. How did you convince your uncle? I said, if we won, I would attract a rich husband.

Speaker 3:

Of course, Every move that the robot does, it comes from your code. He can't embarrass our country. We have to show we can win. We have to show we can win. Go, go, go, go. That bombing was sent to Tara's father from the Taliban. She has to quit the team. It's not too late. It doesn't matter what we do or accomplish, we come back here. Everything is exactly the same.

Speaker 1:

Go, I really thought that I could change things. If the Taliban is mad at you, that means you have. You're just not finished.

Speaker 3:

There's only one fight left tonight. If we miss it, we're dead. This event is the most important robotic competition in the world. This is our chance. We have to fight.

Speaker 1:

And this is how we do it. We have made a mind detection robot.

Speaker 3:

Nothing ever happened, unless someone dreamed it first.

Speaker 1:

What do you want To win?

Speaker 2:

This has been the Couch Critic, where every movie gets its closeup time to stay.

Speaker 1:

Let's escape with Cinema Saturdays. So grab a seat, let the credits play. We'll see you next for Cinema Saturdays.
