And I wanted to try out for cheerleading."},{"startTime":298.74,"endTime":306.3,"body":"Now, bear with me, okay, because I have been, I"},{"startTime":298.74,"endTime":306.3,"body":"it's funny, because I say I have been, I'm no"},{"startTime":306.3,"endTime":311.73,"body":"longer a cheerleader. Okay. It's not like I go and"},{"startTime":306.3,"endTime":311.73,"body":"pursue adult cheerleading classes or anything. And"},{"startTime":311.73,"endTime":318.42,"body":"I don't wear my high school uniform, although it"},{"startTime":311.73,"endTime":318.42,"body":"was one of the runner ups for my costume of my"},{"startTime":318.42,"endTime":326.55,"body":"Halloween costume last year. But I had been a"},{"startTime":318.42,"endTime":326.55,"body":"cheerleader. since I was four. I my big brother's"},{"startTime":326.55,"endTime":332.52,"body":"played football, and I loved being on the field"},{"startTime":326.55,"endTime":332.52,"body":"being on the sidelines. And it's probably one of"},{"startTime":332.52,"endTime":340.86,"body":"the reasons why I make a great cheerleader for my"},{"startTime":332.52,"endTime":340.86,"body":"friends and fellow podcasters. Because I've always"},{"startTime":340.89,"endTime":347.97,"body":"enjoyed being someone that is encouraging. So I"},{"startTime":340.89,"endTime":347.97,"body":"started when I was about four, we had like a YMCA"},{"startTime":347.97,"endTime":353.34000000000003,"body":"League, and oh, y'all the pictures, I'll find"},{"startTime":347.97,"endTime":353.34000000000003,"body":"pictures every once in a while. They let that"},{"startTime":403.77,"endTime":408.51,"body":"older girl out there, you know, cheering with"},{"startTime":403.77,"endTime":408.51,"body":"them. Like that's so precious. You know, I didn't"},{"startTime":408.51,"endTime":414.78000000000003,"body":"even know. It wasn't even a thing to me because I"},{"startTime":408.51,"endTime":414.78000000000003,"body":"was doing what I loved. I was screaming at the top"},{"startTime":414.78000000000003,"endTime":420.3,"body":"of my lungs. I was watching my brothers play and"},{"startTime":414.78000000000003,"endTime":420.3,"body":"my friends play football and it was just so much"},{"startTime":420.3,"endTime":427.2,"body":"fun for me. I did not care if people were saying"},{"startTime":420.3,"endTime":427.2,"body":"she's so much bigger and honestly no one ever said"},{"startTime":427.2,"endTime":434.91,"body":"anything to me and I didn't notice until I got a"},{"startTime":427.2,"endTime":434.91,"body":"lot older. So as I was growing up because I was"},{"startTime":434.91,"endTime":441.42,"body":"such a big girl. I was so tall. And let's just be"},{"startTime":434.91,"endTime":441.42,"body":"honest, Mama's got a little junk in the trunk. I'm"},{"startTime":441.42,"endTime":449.85,"body":"a very thick girl as well. But I've always been in"},{"startTime":441.42,"endTime":449.85,"body":"athletics. So I'm like, I've got I'm solid muscle,"},{"startTime":449.91,"endTime":457.14,"body":"okay, like this is, this is how my body is built."},{"startTime":449.91,"endTime":457.14,"body":"I am just straight up. I got my dad's like tree"},{"startTime":457.14,"endTime":465.33,"body":"trunk buys, and I'm okay with it. Okay, because I,"},{"startTime":457.14,"endTime":465.33,"body":"it made me a great bass as a cheerleader. Man, I"},{"startTime":465.33,"endTime":470.07,"body":"could throw people in the air higher than anybody"},{"startTime":465.33,"endTime":470.07,"body":"else. That was actually a challenge for myself"},{"startTime":470.07,"endTime":474.18,"body":"when I got into high school and all the things"},{"startTime":470.07,"endTime":474.18,"body":"like we're, I'm getting ahead of myself. Okay,"},{"startTime":474.18,"endTime":479.01,"body":"let's go back to the tryouts. Okay, because I have"},{"startTime":474.18,"endTime":479.01,"body":"some other stories for another time of like, what"},{"startTime":479.01,"endTime":483.33,"body":"it's like to throw someone in the air and then"},{"startTime":479.01,"endTime":483.33,"body":"they come down and like hit you right in the face"},{"startTime":483.33,"endTime":488.73,"body":"and all the things it's a dangerous sport. I will"},{"startTime":483.33,"endTime":488.73,"body":"say that it is definitely not something that's"},{"startTime":488.73,"endTime":495.48,"body":"just makeup and pretty bows and all the things if"},{"startTime":488.73,"endTime":495.48,"body":"you watch cheer on Netflix, yeah, that's what it's"},{"startTime":495.48,"endTime":500.91,"body":"like, and actually Corsicana where they filmed"},{"startTime":495.48,"endTime":500.91,"body":"that is 30 minutes from my hometown. So yes,"},{"startTime":500.91,"endTime":509.34000000000003,"body":"competitive cheer is a real thing. But going back"},{"startTime":500.91,"endTime":509.34000000000003,"body":"to that summer, before I was going to try out, so"},{"startTime":509.34000000000003,"endTime":516.12,"body":"let me give one more backstory. In seventh and"},{"startTime":509.34000000000003,"endTime":516.12,"body":"eighth grade in middle school, I did not cheer,"},{"startTime":516.3299999999999,"endTime":523.2,"body":"because in order to cheer in eighth grade, you had"},{"startTime":516.3299999999999,"endTime":523.2,"body":"to be on what was the cheer squad in seventh"},{"startTime":523.2,"endTime":529.2,"body":"grade. And I thought the cheer squad was dumb,"},{"startTime":523.2,"endTime":529.2,"body":"because all they ever did was sit in the"},{"startTime":529.2,"endTime":534.78,"body":"bleachers. Sometimes they would stand up,"},{"startTime":529.2,"endTime":534.78,"body":"sometimes they'd sit down, and there was like, 30"},{"startTime":534.78,"endTime":540.4200000000001,"body":"of them, there was 30 girls in the stands, all"},{"startTime":534.78,"endTime":540.4200000000001,"body":"screaming the same thing, most of the time, they"},{"startTime":540.4200000000001,"endTime":545.5799999999999,"body":"were off beat, and I was like, that just doesn't"},{"startTime":540.4200000000001,"endTime":545.5799999999999,"body":"look fun to me. I want to be out on the field. I"},{"startTime":545.5799999999999,"endTime":550.38,"body":"want to be the one down there, you know, screaming"},{"startTime":545.5799999999999,"endTime":550.38,"body":"cheering the guys on because that's what I knew"},{"startTime":550.38,"endTime":556.47,"body":"growing up in the YMCA cheer. That's what I did."},{"startTime":550.38,"endTime":556.47,"body":"We were on the sidelines, not in the stands. I"},{"startTime":556.47,"endTime":563.55,"body":"didn't sign up to be in the stands. So in seventh"},{"startTime":556.47,"endTime":563.55,"body":"grade, I did not do the cheer squad. But you have"},{"startTime":563.55,"endTime":569.46,"body":"to do the cheer squad in order to try out for"},{"startTime":563.55,"endTime":569.46,"body":"eighth grade cheerleading. So I said, You know"},{"startTime":569.46,"endTime":576.0,"body":"what, it's fine. I'll sacrifice my middle school"},{"startTime":569.46,"endTime":576.0,"body":"cheer days to actually you know, like, I'll be"},{"startTime":576.0,"endTime":582.78,"body":"ready for high school. So I get to my eighth grade"},{"startTime":576.0,"endTime":582.78,"body":"summer, we're about to, you know, have cheer"},{"startTime":582.78,"endTime":591.45,"body":"tryouts. And I was so nervous. I was so nervous,"},{"startTime":582.78,"endTime":591.45,"body":"because like I said, I was tall, I was big. And I"},{"startTime":591.45,"endTime":597.63,"body":"was scared, because I am not a tumbler. So for"},{"startTime":591.45,"endTime":597.63,"body":"those of you that aren't familiar with that,"},{"startTime":597.63,"endTime":603.3299999999999,"body":"that's like flipping all the flips, and the tricks"},{"startTime":597.63,"endTime":603.3299999999999,"body":"and all those things. I don't do  that. I don't do"},{"startTime":603.3299999999999,"endTime":608.25,"body":"that. And I think part of it was because I was"},{"startTime":603.3299999999999,"endTime":608.25,"body":"never in gymnastics. I didn't do that. I was never"},{"startTime":608.25,"endTime":613.74,"body":"interested in all the flips, because I just didn't"},{"startTime":608.25,"endTime":613.74,"body":"think I could do them. Because I was so tall. I"},{"startTime":613.74,"endTime":618.84,"body":"was like, Who's gonna help like, flip my legs over"},{"startTime":613.74,"endTime":618.84,"body":"my head and all the things. So I never did"},{"startTime":618.84,"endTime":627.21,"body":"gymnastics. And I thought, all the other girls"},{"startTime":618.84,"endTime":627.21,"body":"that did cheer in middle school had practice doing"},{"startTime":627.21,"endTime":637.1700000000001,"body":"all these flips, and they started doing gymnastics"},{"startTime":627.21,"endTime":637.1700000000001,"body":"to get prepared for high school. So when we get"},{"startTime":637.1700000000001,"endTime":642.06,"body":"there, like we're practicing, you know, it's like"},{"startTime":637.1700000000001,"endTime":642.06,"body":"me and my other girlfriends. And we're like, okay,"},{"startTime":642.06,"endTime":647.52,"body":"like, you know, good luck. I can't wait to see"},{"startTime":642.06,"endTime":647.52,"body":"what you do. And it's gonna be so fun. We had to"},{"startTime":647.52,"endTime":652.71,"body":"go out to try out, you know, you had to wear"},{"startTime":647.52,"endTime":652.71,"body":"everybody had to wear the same thing. It was like"},{"startTime":652.71,"endTime":659.85,"body":"just plain black shorts and a white t shirt. And"},{"startTime":652.71,"endTime":659.85,"body":"that was it. You couldn't like you're trying not"},{"startTime":659.85,"endTime":667.11,"body":"to stand out, right? They didn't want anything to"},{"startTime":659.85,"endTime":667.11,"body":"do tear them like the judges from voting yes or"},{"startTime":667.11,"endTime":674.04,"body":"no, based on how you looked. It should just be"},{"startTime":667.11,"endTime":674.04,"body":"based on performance. And I will never forget,"},{"startTime":674.4,"endTime":681.75,"body":"moments before I walked out. We did this in our"},{"startTime":674.4,"endTime":681.75,"body":"the gym at our high school. I was on the"},{"startTime":681.75,"endTime":689.55,"body":"basketball court. And I was so nervous that called"},{"startTime":681.75,"endTime":689.55,"body":"my number. I go out there. In moments before I get"},{"startTime":689.55,"endTime":698.13,"body":"started on the chair. I said, What can you do?"},{"startTime":689.55,"endTime":698.13,"body":"What can you do? And what I was asking myself is I"},{"startTime":698.13,"endTime":704.37,"body":"had been freaking myself out saying, You can't"},{"startTime":698.13,"endTime":704.37,"body":"tumble You can't do this. You don't have the"},{"startTime":704.37,"endTime":711.12,"body":"highest jumps like I had this voice in my head"},{"startTime":704.37,"endTime":711.12,"body":"telling me all these negative things that I"},{"startTime":711.12,"endTime":718.29,"body":"couldn't do. repeating them over and over and over"},{"startTime":711.12,"endTime":718.29,"body":"again. You can't do this. Did you see Jenny? Jenny"},{"startTime":718.29,"endTime":723.15,"body":"has a higher jump than you. Did you see Kindle?"},{"startTime":718.29,"endTime":723.15,"body":"Did you see how many backflips? She did in a row."},{"startTime":723.15,"endTime":728.85,"body":"She did a standing tuck. You can't do that. I had"},{"startTime":723.15,"endTime":728.85,"body":"it over and over again. But right before I got"},{"startTime":728.85,"endTime":737.34,"body":"started, there was this other voice that chimed in"},{"startTime":728.85,"endTime":737.34,"body":"and said what can you Do and I answered myself and"},{"startTime":737.34,"endTime":745.26,"body":"I said, I can be louder than any person in here."},{"startTime":737.34,"endTime":745.26,"body":"So that's what I did. I'd never done this. I was like, I know, I can be so"},{"startTime":768.09,"endTime":774.27,"body":"freakin loud. My goal is to make those judges"},{"startTime":768.09,"endTime":774.27,"body":"almost want to hold their ears because they're"},{"startTime":774.27,"endTime":779.13,"body":"like, Oh my God, this chick is so loud, we're"},{"startTime":774.27,"endTime":779.13,"body":"gonna be able to hear her from three, three school"},{"startTime":779.13,"endTime":785.79,"body":"districts over she's like, she's got this. So"},{"startTime":779.13,"endTime":785.79,"body":"that's exactly what I did. I tapped into what I"},{"startTime":785.79,"endTime":794.3100000000001,"body":"knew I was good at and I went for it. Oh, y'all. And this is like these"},{"startTime":832.68,"endTime":841.17,"body":"stories can apply whether you're a parent or not."},{"startTime":832.68,"endTime":841.17,"body":"Okay. I will never forget being a mom for the"},{"startTime":841.17,"endTime":846.87,"body":"first time. And then handing me my son. So just"},{"startTime":841.17,"endTime":846.87,"body":"for some context, I had my oldest son when I was"},{"startTime":846.87,"endTime":853.11,"body":"pretty young. I was 22. I was I was 21. When I got"},{"startTime":846.87,"endTime":853.11,"body":"pregnant, I was 22 when I had him, and I will"},{"startTime":853.11,"endTime":860.34,"body":"never forget them handing me this little baby and"},{"startTime":853.11,"endTime":860.34,"body":"saying, What am I supposed to do with this?"},{"startTime":861.12,"endTime":869.7,"body":"Because I had no clue. No clue what I was doing?"},{"startTime":861.12,"endTime":869.7,"body":"Absolutely none. I had read all the books. And you"},{"startTime":869.7,"endTime":874.35,"body":"know, at that time, there wasn't all these things"},{"startTime":869.7,"endTime":874.35,"body":"online like it was you just bought What to Expect"},{"startTime":874.35,"endTime":879.42,"body":"When You're Expecting. And apparently you're"},{"startTime":874.35,"endTime":879.42,"body":"supposed to know how to be an amazing parent, just"},{"startTime":879.42,"endTime":885.18,"body":"by reading that book would read the book cover to"},{"startTime":879.42,"endTime":885.18,"body":"cover, right? I knew I knew what I was supposed to"},{"startTime":885.18,"endTime":890.76,"body":"do. Until they handed me this little thing. And"},{"startTime":885.18,"endTime":890.76,"body":"I'm like, Oh, wait, I don't really know what I'm"},{"startTime":890.76,"endTime":895.44,"body":"doing. How do you? How do you change the diaper"},{"startTime":890.76,"endTime":895.44,"body":"again? And we're like, okay, we're just gonna make"},{"startTime":895.44,"endTime":900.48,"body":"sure he's breathing, right? Like, there were so"},{"startTime":895.44,"endTime":900.48,"body":"many things coming up. Again, that voice was"},{"startTime":900.48,"endTime":905.01,"body":"saying, Well, you can't do this. That's not how"},{"startTime":900.48,"endTime":905.01,"body":"your mom did it. That's not how your grandmother"},{"startTime":905.01,"endTime":911.16,"body":"probably did it. You're probably doing this wrong."},{"startTime":905.01,"endTime":911.16,"body":"And he's going to be in lots of therapy, because"},{"startTime":911.16,"endTime":916.92,"body":"you're a terrible mother. These were the thoughts"},{"startTime":911.16,"endTime":916.92,"body":"coming into my head. I know. It's crazy. It's"},{"startTime":916.92,"endTime":923.34,"body":"ludicrous. But this is exactly what happened to me"},{"startTime":916.92,"endTime":923.34,"body":"when imposter syndrome started, like seeping into"},{"startTime":923.34,"endTime":933.69,"body":"me as a brand new mom. But again, that other voice"},{"startTime":923.34,"endTime":933.69,"body":"came up, it got louder and said, What can you do?"},{"startTime":934.14,"endTime":941.52,"body":"What can you do? So what can I do? I could stand"},{"startTime":934.14,"endTime":941.52,"body":"up and walk around with his baby until it stopped"},{"startTime":941.52,"endTime":949.23,"body":"crying. And you know what it did? And then like,"},{"startTime":941.52,"endTime":949.23,"body":"we kind of took baby steps literally into figuring"},{"startTime":949.23,"endTime":955.53,"body":"out parenting. And now you know what, he's a sixth"},{"startTime":949.23,"endTime":955.53,"body":"grade young man. Like, here he is.
