Dyslexic Life with Jo Rees THE PODCAST!

S3 Ep14 -Back-to-School, Year 11 Pressure, & Thriving in the Chaos

Jo Rees Season 3 Episode 14

This week, I tried something new: recording the podcast on video and streaming at the same time. Why? Because the messy, real-time reality of dyslexia + ADHD is worth normalising.

Inside the episode:

  • Back-to-school the “last-minute” way — why doing it in the final week actually reduces stress for dyslexic/ADHD brains, and how my pop-up parent community The POD (Parents of Dyslexics) followed along with checklists and lives.
  • Year 11 & GCSE pressure — my daughter’s “clicker” experiment (41 GCSE mentions in one day!) and a practical exercise to set your own happy-heart grades + a three-column priorities list.
  • When routines slip — I mix up times, miss calls, and then… self-talk, compassion, and putting strategies back in place.
  • Coaching, ducks, and clarity — why my ducks aren’t in a row (but I know where they are), and how mentoring helps me decide what truly matters this week.
  • Running a business while parenting neurodivergent teens — the “hattrick” of interruptions and knowing when to pause and try again in a better window.
  • Conferences & CPD — Isle of Wight conference prep, speaking in London (mid/late September), and renewing my Dyslexia Practising Certificate without the overwhelm.

If you’re navigating school transitions, GCSE season, or simply trying to keep your ducks (chaotic as they are) swimming in the same pond — this one’s for you.
