123 - Exodus E7

Season 3

“A Sanctuary for God” (Exodus 25-27)

  1. What is the significance of the tabernacle for the divine presence (25:8)?
  2. When the ark was constructed, the tablets of the covenant law would be placed inside and on top of the ark there would be an atonement cover. What might be the significance of the atonement cover (also called the mercy seat) being situated over the tablets of the law?
  3. Discuss how each of these prefigures Jesus and the gospel:
    1. The table, on which was placed 12 loaves of bread (shewbread)
    2. The lampstand, which was the only light provided in the tabernacle
    3. The tabernacle (John 1:14, the word translated “dwelled” is literally “pitched a tent” or “tabernacled”; see also Heb. 6:20; 9:11-12; 10:12)
    4. The altar of burnt offering
  4. The fundamental significance of the tabernacle was that it represented the presence of God among his people and made God more accessible to his people. How do we experience the divine presence in our lives today? How does his presence impact our discipleship?
