So I have had the"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":113.549,"endTime":117.239,"body":"privilege of working in Saudi"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":117.239,"endTime":121.979,"body":"Arabia for eight years. And my"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":117.239,"endTime":121.979,"body":"role was primarily centred"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":121.979,"endTime":125.579,"body":"around the education of Saudi"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":121.979,"endTime":125.579,"body":"women. And I suppose what I got"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":125.579,"endTime":130.109,"body":"to experience firsthand is the"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":125.579,"endTime":130.109,"body":"value of education and the"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":130.109,"endTime":133.469,"body":"vehicle that it actually gives"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":130.109,"endTime":133.469,"body":"women not only from a"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":133.499,"endTime":136.319,"body":"perspective of entering the"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":133.499,"endTime":136.319,"body":"workplace, but much more so than"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":136.319,"endTime":140.099,"body":"that as well from a perspective"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":136.319,"endTime":140.099,"body":"of social inclusion. And many of"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":140.099,"endTime":143.219,"body":"you may be aware that Saudi"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":140.099,"endTime":143.219,"body":"Arabia is a country that is"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":143.219,"endTime":146.129,"body":"ranked very low in the gender"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":143.219,"endTime":146.129,"body":"equality rankings. So it is"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":146.129,"endTime":151.109,"body":"currently stands at 140 756"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":146.129,"endTime":151.109,"body":"countries, and it equally has"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":151.109,"endTime":154.349,"body":"very low labour force"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":151.109,"endTime":154.349,"body":"participation rates for women"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":154.349,"endTime":158.069,"body":"are currently stands at around"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":154.349,"endTime":158.069,"body":"33%. Now, when you compare that"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":158.069,"endTime":162.449,"body":"to other high income countries,"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":158.069,"endTime":162.449,"body":"those numbers are quite low. So"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":162.449,"endTime":166.169,"body":"again, to be in a role, where"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":162.449,"endTime":166.169,"body":"you're actually involved in"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":166.199,"endTime":168.779,"body":"education in Saudi women where"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":166.199,"endTime":168.779,"body":"you can really make a difference"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":168.779,"endTime":172.229,"body":"here, it really was such a"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":168.779,"endTime":172.229,"body":"privilege. But I deeply like to"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":172.559,"endTime":176.489,"body":"highlight the fact that since"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":172.559,"endTime":176.489,"body":"2016, the Saudi government have"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":176.489,"endTime":179.789,"body":"actually introduced a number of"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":176.489,"endTime":179.789,"body":"government backed initiatives,"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":179.939,"endTime":183.419,"body":"which are all centred around the"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":179.939,"endTime":183.419,"body":"environment and the inclusion of"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":183.419,"endTime":186.179,"body":"Saudi women. And again, when you"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":183.419,"endTime":186.179,"body":"have government backed"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":186.179,"endTime":188.369,"body":"initiatives like that, you"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":186.179,"endTime":188.369,"body":"really start to see the"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":188.369,"endTime":193.379,"body":"opportunities open up for to be"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":188.369,"endTime":193.379,"body":"there at a time. And both before"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":193.379,"endTime":196.679,"body":"these initiatives come in and"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":193.379,"endTime":196.679,"body":"after you really see the changes"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":196.679,"endTime":200.729,"body":"that can take place. So bringing"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":196.679,"endTime":200.729,"body":"it back to education again, and"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":200.729,"endTime":204.869,"body":"looking at our role there as a,"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":200.729,"endTime":204.869,"body":"as a university and educating"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":204.869,"endTime":208.769,"body":"people in the third level"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":204.869,"endTime":208.769,"body":"sector. Really, what we were"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":209.069,"endTime":212.669,"body":"trying to do was not only ensure"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":209.069,"endTime":212.669,"body":"that all our graduates were"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":212.669,"endTime":215.279,"body":"leaving our programmes having"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":212.669,"endTime":215.279,"body":"both the technical and the soft"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":215.279,"endTime":217.799,"body":"skills that they needed to be"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":215.279,"endTime":217.799,"body":"effective in the workplace, but"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":217.799,"endTime":220.529,"body":"it was equally to ensure that"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":217.799,"endTime":220.529,"body":"they develop the life skills"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":220.529,"endTime":222.659,"body":"that they need. Because again,"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":220.529,"endTime":222.659,"body":"if you look at the history of"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":222.659,"endTime":226.289,"body":"the country, education of women,"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":222.659,"endTime":226.289,"body":"this is all very, very new. And"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":226.289,"endTime":228.959,"body":"as I said, labour force"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":226.289,"endTime":228.959,"body":"participation is all very new."},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":228.959,"endTime":232.769,"body":"So there's a host of skills that"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":228.959,"endTime":232.769,"body":"really needed to be developed."},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":233.009,"endTime":235.829,"body":"And we ran many different"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":233.009,"endTime":235.829,"body":"initiatives alongside again, our"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":235.829,"endTime":238.679,"body":"main programmes, and one that"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":235.829,"endTime":238.679,"body":"got a lot of attention over the"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":238.679,"endTime":241.469,"body":"last number of years was one"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":238.679,"endTime":241.469,"body":"centred around the financial"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":241.469,"endTime":246.329,"body":"literacy and development. And"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":241.469,"endTime":246.329,"body":"again, it was really about"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":246.359,"endTime":249.119,"body":"trying to develop life skills"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":246.359,"endTime":249.119,"body":"that will be useful to our"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":249.119,"endTime":253.649,"body":"students. The feedback was"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":249.119,"endTime":253.649,"body":"absolutely phenomenal. And many"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":253.679,"endTime":256.709,"body":"of our students come back and"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":253.679,"endTime":256.709,"body":"said, you know, it wasn't only"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":256.709,"endTime":259.559,"body":"really beneficial to have"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":256.709,"endTime":259.559,"body":"developed these skills from a"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":260.069,"endTime":263.699,"body":"professional perspective, but"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":260.069,"endTime":263.699,"body":"equally for their personal"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":263.699,"endTime":267.089,"body":"lives. And historically, they"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":263.699,"endTime":267.089,"body":"said, if we've really been a"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":267.089,"endTime":269.309,"body":"conversation that they would"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":267.089,"endTime":269.309,"body":"have been having in their own"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":269.309,"endTime":272.639,"body":"homes about financial decision"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":269.309,"endTime":272.639,"body":"making, but they felt much more"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":272.639,"endTime":275.429,"body":"empowered to be able to do so"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":272.639,"endTime":275.429,"body":"because of the skills that they"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":275.429,"endTime":278.399,"body":"had developed as part of our"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":275.429,"endTime":278.399,"body":"programmes. So I think you know,"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":278.399,"endTime":281.819,"body":"when you look at the overall"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":278.399,"endTime":281.819,"body":"diversity and inclusion agenda,"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":282.179,"endTime":284.969,"body":"initiatives like that can"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":282.179,"endTime":284.969,"body":"really, really help drive"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":284.969,"endTime":288.659,"body":"forward change. If I bring that"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":284.969,"endTime":288.659,"body":"back then to an example much"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":288.659,"endTime":291.269,"body":"closer to home and over the last"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":288.659,"endTime":291.269,"body":"academic year, and you've just"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":291.269,"endTime":294.419,"body":"saw the video of an initiative"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":291.269,"endTime":294.419,"body":"that was run in collaboration"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":294.419,"endTime":297.689,"body":"with the Irish funders task"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":294.419,"endTime":297.689,"body":"force that was all centred"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":297.689,"endTime":300.929,"body":"around, ensuring that our"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":297.689,"endTime":300.929,"body":"masters of accounting students"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":300.929,"endTime":304.049,"body":"had exposure to these really"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":300.929,"endTime":304.049,"body":"important topics. And one of the"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":304.049,"endTime":307.079,"body":"workshops was completely centred"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":304.049,"endTime":307.079,"body":"around diversity and inclusion."},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":307.469,"endTime":310.649,"body":"And in this particular workshop,"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":307.469,"endTime":310.649,"body":"and we designed it in such a way"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":310.649,"endTime":313.439,"body":"whereby we had a guest speaker"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":310.649,"endTime":313.439,"body":"come in really, really"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":313.439,"endTime":316.799,"body":"inspirational person Torres"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":313.439,"endTime":316.799,"body":"called me is her name, who is"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":316.799,"endTime":319.649,"body":"the founder of the together"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":316.799,"endTime":319.649,"body":"Academy. And this particular"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":319.649,"endTime":323.489,"body":"organisation was set up to help"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":319.649,"endTime":323.489,"body":"adults with Down syndrome"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":323.489,"endTime":326.069,"body":"develop the skills that they"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":323.489,"endTime":326.069,"body":"need in order to enter the"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":326.069,"endTime":328.919,"body":"workplace. That particular"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":326.069,"endTime":328.919,"body":"session that was followed by an"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":328.919,"endTime":332.069,"body":"interactive workflow and"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":328.919,"endTime":332.069,"body":"interactive workshop by the"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":332.069,"endTime":335.429,"body":"offenders and Task Force. And"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":332.069,"endTime":335.429,"body":"really what the interactive"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":335.429,"endTime":338.309,"body":"workforce did then was it"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":335.429,"endTime":338.309,"body":"allowed the students to, I"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":338.309,"endTime":341.849,"body":"suppose, get exposure to how"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":338.309,"endTime":341.849,"body":"diversity and inclusion plays"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":341.849,"endTime":345.059,"body":"out in a work setting. Again,"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":341.849,"endTime":345.059,"body":"the feedback from this from the"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":345.059,"endTime":347.759,"body":"students was absolutely"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":345.059,"endTime":347.759,"body":"phenomenal them coming, saying"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":347.789,"endTime":350.339,"body":"that, you know, it really wasn't"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":347.789,"endTime":350.339,"body":"something that they had"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":350.339,"endTime":353.339,"body":"necessarily considered from a"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":350.339,"endTime":353.339,"body":"perspective of their career as"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":353.339,"endTime":356.729,"body":"an accountant, some of them"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":353.339,"endTime":356.729,"body":"saying that they, they got so"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":356.729,"endTime":359.969,"body":"much from the session that they"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":356.729,"endTime":359.969,"body":"actually are now doing their"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":359.969,"endTime":363.689,"body":"thesis research on the topic of"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":359.969,"endTime":363.689,"body":"diversity and inclusion. For me,"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":363.719,"endTime":368.699,"body":"the significance of this is, as"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":363.719,"endTime":368.699,"body":"an educator, we are involved in"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":368.699,"endTime":371.429,"body":"the education of the next"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":368.699,"endTime":371.429,"body":"generation of accountants and"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":371.429,"endTime":374.759,"body":"business leaders, and to be able"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":371.429,"endTime":374.759,"body":"to expose them to topics like"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":374.759,"endTime":378.089,"body":"diversity and inclusion, and to"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":374.759,"endTime":378.089,"body":"see how they engage with that. I"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":378.089,"endTime":381.149,"body":"think that that is just so"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":378.089,"endTime":381.149,"body":"positive for the profession, and"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":381.149,"endTime":384.509,"body":"for business going forward and"},{"speaker":"Unknown","startTime":381.149,"endTime":384.509,"body":"for for people individually.
